She isn’t going to be a huge part of this au but I adore her and I’m insanely proud of this redesign.

I’m gonna make a proper lore post soon cause I had like a HUGE influx of ideas and did kind of an overhaul of the backstory to make it fit a little better with the kind of story I wanna write, until then I’m gonna keep posting little design snippets and concepts, I really appreciate that people have been interested in this au even thought it’s kinda taking me a while to make proper content for it. It’ll still probably be a while before the proper comic is something I can consistently work on but I’ve got some other things planned in the meantime :)

I do kind of hope a series gives us a Megatron and Optimus with a “strangers to respected enemies/rivals to potentially more (at least in the fanfics)” sort of dynamic

Because I feel like that doesn’t really happen, at least not to my knowledge. I feel like if Megatron has a respect for Optimus, it’s usually due to their long, shared history, not something that develops over the course of the series

And I know some people say that’s what happens in TFA, but no, it really doesn’t. The two never reach the “respect” part, with Optimus hating Megatron for being an evil villain, and Megatron seeing him as a nuisance at best and never bothering to learn his name, only calling him it once like 2 minutes after being told it earlier in the fight, which I think in context doesn’t really count for much

I just feel like it’d be neat to properly explore, especially since I’m realizing we seem to have it fairly consistently be that they were “old friends” for a while now, let’s shake it up a little

My personal recommendation is Fake by Sanami Matoh. Absolutely my favorite BL manga of all time, and arguably both leads are bi, but the love interest definitely is, and the mc, a strong case could be made (but I could also make the case he's demi, or maybe demisexual/biromantic, it's less clear in his case and it's never explicit in canon, so it's open to interpretation).

I've been thinking on and off about Dreamtale for months, the way it left off with the twins perpetually clashing and how it adds to their mythological vibe... and I guess my mind couldn't let it go until it came up with a way to offer their story closure.

And that's how I got stuck on the idea of Dream and Nightmare always being two halves of a whole, Dark Crystal style, until I came up with a fusion– the guardian of emotion.

Maybe Nightmare ripped the golden fruit from Dream, maybe Dream got desperate and tried to separate Nightmare's SOUL from the black fruit, but either way, after they were absorbed or absorbed by the apples, maybe their SOULs would also involuntarily absorb each other if given the chance. Like they were always meant to succeed their sacred tree.

I really like interpreting Nightmare's tentacles as roots, leaving Swap!Dream's feathered wings to be the leafy branches.

Their motif would be an eclipse to combine Dream and Nightmare's motifs, and as for a name... Wake? Dawn? Psyche? Psyche... Psyche.

Hello! Is there a like… “old movies for dummies” guide you’d recommend? Film history for people who know next to nothing about anything? Extra points for emphasis on how film, American history, feminist history, and/or gay history co-evolved.

i haven’t read these ones so i can’t like technically recommend it, but the story of film by mark cousins seems to be a big one. film history: an introduction is written by david bordwell (RIP) and kristin thompson and their other book film art: an introduction (which i can recommend) is often the first book film students are assigned in class…. the thing about film history is that it’s so long and complex and you’re probably not going to find a catch-all one stop shop. i can say that you should pick up hollywood: the oral history by jeanine basinger and sam wasson, honestly ANY BOOK by jeanine basinger, the parade’s gone by by kevin brownlow, easy riders raging bulls by peter biskind, hollywood black by donald bogle. david thomson has a huge biographical dictionary on film that’s a fun read.

to answer your extra question…. again, i’m not thinking of anything that combines this all into a one stop shop, but you should absolutely read from reverence to rape by molly haskell, pretty much anything by judith mayne, and laura mulvey’s visual pleasure and narrative cinema essay for some feminist history (JSTOR has a great reading list here) and the celluloid closet by vito russo for gay history in film.

Oh yeah also he has never trained to fight anyone. He'd probably cut himself if he used a sharp knife at the dinner table.

But it is difficult and sometimes it is too difficult and then I have to make tumblr posts like this one, to vent my inner bitchiness into the atmosphere so it doesn't build up to deadly levels then I click the tab closed and move on and never say a word about it to anyone, like a good girl.
