Steddie kinda famous AU(?) | Genderfluid Stevie <3 | Eddie is a rat man and I laugh at him (I would probably be like that if I was Steve Harrington husband but that's not about me) | Live laugh love Stevie | Pushing the history teacher Steve agenda because he's a variant of Hob Gadling >:D
[I'm sorry if it has errors it's been a while since I had written something in English (it's not my first language) so whatever mistake I have feel free to tell me and I'll edit <3]
. ° — ° — 🌟 — ° — ° .
Corroded Coffin seemed to be popular, things were getting better for them, they still had to do part time job because of that 'what if?' but things were going well. Definitely.
In an interview they asked about a song, the meaning. And the shit man Eddie Munson is, he answered with a grin on his face "That's about Stevie, as most of them".
And the fans went crazy, trying to find someone with that name in the Corroded Coffin set or working at some usual bar they played at.
"They is a history teacher" Eddie Munson told the world in another interview "and we are married" he showed the camera a ring he had next to his guitar pick on his neck, he had the biggest smirk on his face.
Then Corroded Coffin were guests of a fundraising gala, they were asked to play at it to attract more people. It was a fancy gala tho, everyone was in their bests dresses and all.
"This one's for my beautiful angel there, who looks as gorgeous as always" And Eddie winked at a special balcony of the vip guests.
Most of the public saw Eddie laughing softly, but they didn't know why. In that balcony a lovely brunette in a marion blue dress gave the guitarist and second voice of Corroded Coffin the middle finger as he had a stupid lovely gaze on their face while she blushed a little.
"Yeah love ya too sweetie" Eddie chuckled before starting with the show.
Later at the gala people saw Eddie Munson next to the tall brunette in that marion dress.
"So are you Eddie's girlfriend?" An interviewer asked, he looked at Stevie with those eyes Eddie didn't like.
But Eddie laughed as he waited for Steve's answer, that was going to be good as hell, they had the bitchy face on.
"Not a girl" Steve smirked "And definitely not his girlfriend, nor boyfriend, nor partner" She looked down at the man, who seemed so little compared to them "He's my husband"
"I am" Eddie smiled so stupidly in love as he looked up at Stevie, who usually wasn't that tall but with the black heels they was wearing today the difference was more than usual.
"Uh— Yeah" The interviewer looked at different places to get outta there
"You got any problem with that sir?"
"N-no it's perfectly fine ma'am— I mean sir— I mean—"
Steve snorted "Come on darling, let's go somewhere else without this kind of people"
And where Stevie went Eddie followed
The amount of edits with the song 'walk him like a dog' after that gala were more than years the Earth has.
"Teddy, look, another one" Steve chuckled as she showed Eddie his phone.
"Stop with that, you menace" Eddie laid down on the couch, next to his significant other, trying to take their phone away playfully.
"Erica is going to bully you so bad" Stevie giggled.
"And Red too" Eddie sighed "Jesus Christ, Stevie I am like that always?"
"It's cute"
"I hate you" Eddie muttered as Steve put on the baseball match of today.
"Love you too sunshine" She smiled softly as they started playing with Eddie's hair.

---
Steve has taken over Eddie's large porcelain bathtub after it was moved to the main room of the captain's cabin. Steve is lounging in it now, a week into being on Eddie's ship, with his tail draped over the edge so he can submerge his head and breathe through his gills. It's infinitely more comfortable, even with the seaweed still wrapped along the length of his tail and reminding him of its presence with every twitch.
He sighs, bubbles rising from his gills in the "I'm beyond bored" pattern that Robin would light up at seeing. But she's not here, so Steve is left to once again turn Eddie's bat ring over in his hands, fingers brushing along the wings.
Eddie had shown him a drawing of an actual bat, and Steve still thinks they're freaks of nature. But he finds the ring itself a little endearing if only because it was Eddie's ring willingly given.
He smiles softly, the gesture only dampened by the sharp jab of worry over his guppies and Robin. They're probably losing their scales with worry themselves, scouring the sea and putting themselves at risk of being seen in their hunt for him. Steve can't even fault them, either; he would do the exact same thing if Robin or any of his guppies had been captured like that. He has done the exact same thing.
Steve sighs again, this time the bubble pattern expressing exhaustion and "What the fuck am I supposed to do now?" He kind of misses having someone who actually understands what his bubble patterns mean, but he knows it wouldn't be fair to get frustrated with anyone for their inability to gain meaning from bubbles floating toward the surface.
He thinks, maybe, the worst part is being confined to the tub. Sure, it's infinitely better than the fucking bucket from the other ship, but Steve is still getting restless. He's like a guppy that's watching its siblings swim but still doesn't have the tail strength to swim itself. He feels trapped and has way too much energy with nowhere to spend it.
Steve hasn't mentioned this to Eddie, though. He'd been planning to, of course. In fact, he intended to tell Eddie that morning, but then they'd docked at some port city and Eddie had run off with the promise of being back soon. Steve had tried not to feel a little abandoned, left by himself with fucking nothing to do while Eddie prances around on land.
Before he can get too far into this line of thought (he's about three minutes from convincing himself that, really, Eddie shouldn't have left and could probably be taught the basics of bubble patterns as punishment), Eddie practically barrels into the room, vibrating with something Steve only recognizes as excitement when he sees Eddie's grin.
Steve surfaces, pushing his hair out of his eyes and leaning on the edge of the tub, twitching his tail slightly and exercising incredible control to keep from preening when Eddie's gaze lingers on it. "What happened?" he asks, slipping the bat ring onto his thumb, the only finger it fits.
Eddie drops to his knees, scooting closer to the tub until their noses are almost brushing. "I've got a surprise for you, sweetheart," he says, voice light and eager.
"Where is it?" Steve asks, returning Eddie's smile.
"It's on the deck! Do you trust me?"
For a brief moment, Steve thinks Eddie is about to throw him back into the ocean. Which, like, wouldn't be a bad thing, but Steve would be incredibly offended by the suddenness and wonder if he'd been imagining the draw between them.
But he's sure Eddie wouldn't do something like that without asking first, so he tucks it away as something only slightly possible. Steve nods and pulls back, bracing his hands on the edge of the tub before pushing himself up. He perches on the edge, his balance a little unsteady as he looks at Eddie.
Thankfully, Eddie catches on quickly. He scrambles to his feet and scoops Steve off the edge of the tub, one arm under his tail and the other wrapped around Steve's back. Steve holds onto Eddie's neck, still a little paranoid about being dropped despite Eddie's prior insistence that he wouldn't let anything happen to Steve.
"I think you're gonna love it," Eddie says, his voice soft and his breath warm against Steve's cheek.
Steve gets the urge to ask again, but he holds back as Eddie carries him up to the deck. The sky is covered in clouds, keeping the sun from blinding him when they emerge from the stairs. The deck is concerningly large for such a small crew, and Gareth is currently lounging against the mast, a hat pulled low over his eyes as he sleeps.
He's not very attention-grabbing, though. Not when there's a large...contraption in the middle of the deck. It has four wheels and is shaped like a boat, big enough for Steve to sit comfortably without his tail draping over the edge. There are cranks of some kind on the inside of the boat, and Steve realizes it's filled with water as Eddie carries him closer.
"What is this?" Steve asks, trying not to grimace at the discomfort of his scales beginning to dry out. They're starting to feel tight and itchy, a sensation he really hates, like they're going to split apart at any second.
Eddie grins wider and carefully sets Steve into the water, making sure he doesn't bump the tail or the seaweed wraps. He points at the crank to Steve's left and says, "That will make the back wheels turn. If you crank forward, you'll go forward, and back will make you go backward." He then points to the other crank by Steve's right. "This one controls the front wheels. Forward will make them turn left, and backward will make them turn right. You should be able to move around the deck with this."
Steve stares at the cranks for a moment before glancing up at Eddie. When he receives an encouraging nod in response, he slowly turns the left crank forward, lighting up when the boat does, in fact, move forward a few inches.
He's so overwhelmed with joy that he can't help the notes bubbling in his throat, rising and rising until he can't hold them back anymore. Steve doesn't even think before singing, a wordless tune that conveys just how truly happy he is, one that would leave Robin flabbergasted because she's never heard this tune before.
Because this tune is for courting gifts. Like, really fucking fantastic courting gifts. The kind of gifts that blow everything else clear out of the water and leave a merperson dazed and bubbly and floating without any direction from sheer happiness, bubbles bursting through their gills in joyous patterns.
Steve has never sung this tune before, but he's not at all surprised that Eddie is the person who managed to coax it out of him.
-----
Eddie knew the boat would be a good idea, but now he's thinking it was the best idea he's ever had and ever will. Even after hours have passed, after Steve has watched the sun drop below the water and asked Eddie to carry him back to the cabin, complaining about his arms being sore from turning cranks, Eddie is still reeling.
He's never heard a more beautiful sound. Eddie keeps replaying the tune Steve sang in his head, frustrated with his inability to recreate it just right and too flustered to ask Steve to sing it again. Because he gets the feeling it was special, something that Steve can't just do at the drop of a hat, but something he did because of Eddie.
Eddie twists his fingers in the sheet covering him, turning his head to glance at the tub where Steve is leaning against the edge. His eyes are closed, but Eddie knows he isn't sleeping yet. Steve submerges his head when he sleeps.
"Hey, Stevie," Eddie whispers, almost like he doesn't want Steve to hear so the comfortable silence continues.
Steve hears him anyway, of course, the flare of fin along the edge of his ear twitching slightly. He tilts his head a bit more, squishing his cheek against his arm, and somewhat lazily says, "Yeah, Eddie?"
Eddie turns onto his side, meeting Steve's gaze. "How'd you become a caretaker?" he asks. It's not the question he actually wants to ask; he wants to ask Steve to sing again, to let him drift to sleep to beautiful notes and lingering melodies.
He watches as Steve tenses slightly before forcing himself to relax. He takes a deep breath, his gills fluttering slightly before slowly exhaling. "A while ago, my pod had an...altercation with a pod from the southern seas. They kidnapped one of the guppies, Will, and the other guppies decided to rescue him. They snuck off one night and I followed them when I discovered what happened and..."
Steve trails off, frowning as he tilts his head to look at the small window, staring at the moon through the glass. "Well, long story short, there were lots of fights, our pod lost its previous caretaker, and we gained a new guppy the southern pod had captured. After everything, I couldn't let the guppies out of my sight, and they kept coming to me and Robin whenever they had problems. So, eventually, I just convinced Robin to be my partner and raise the guppies."
There's a lot going unsaid in that explanation, but Eddie knows better than to pry right now. Steve will tell him when he wants, and if he never wants to, that's fine, too. Eddie won't fault him for that. "Did you have a job before that?" he asks.
Steve hums softly, still beautiful and soft, but not at all the melody Eddie really wants to hear. "I used to scout for the pod," he says, "I would swim ahead and make sure an area was safe or find spots to rest when the pod traveled. When we stopped for long periods, I'd help gather food for the pod."
"You like caring for the guppies more," Eddie says, and it's not at all a question.
"Yeah," Steve replies, a soft smile tugging at his lips. "The guppies are great."
"Tell me about them."
"Well, first is Dustin. He's a little sea urchin, always talking back and getting into trouble, but he's sweet. Will is usually pretty quiet, but he's got a great imagination. Mike always hangs around Will, and he's kind of a squid, but he's going through an awkward growth phase. Lucas is the most active of them, and he likes to shadow the scouters when he can. Erica is his little sister, and she doesn't let the others get away with anything. Max is daring and brash, she tends to dive head-first into stuff, but she's also really protective. El is quiet like Will, but she's really smart and really caring. They're such a handful. Robin and I never have a dull day."
His voice is trailing off toward the end, and Eddie knows he's just moments from falling asleep. "I'd like to meet them someday," Eddie says, his voice softer than before, the words spoken more to himself than Steve.
Of course, that doesn't stop Steve from hearing him anyway. He hums again, this one quieter, and groggily mumbles, "Of course you will, Eddie. That's part of the courting."
And then, like he hasn't essentially rocked Eddie's entire world, Steve slips down in the tub. He submerges his head in the water, and Eddie can hear the quiet murmur of bubbles rising to the surface and popping as Steve breathes.
Eddie stays frozen for a few minutes, staring at the tub, and suddenly wondering if, maybe, somebody somewhere happened to write a merperson courtship manual.

I love everyone who's into Steddy Hands but ALSO so many people are saying Stede/Izzys dynamic should be tolerating each other for Eds sake and doing threesomes but having no real love for each other and NO. NO my fics can't end like that. You don't understand.
They have one of the most interesting dynamics in the show. I'd put it right up there with Ed/Izzys, Ed/Stedes dynamic (hence this ship appealing to me so much) because like. Okay so first you've got their canon interactions:
"This isn't over Mr Bonnet." "Good. Because I kind of enjoyed it"
"He has terrible taste in lackies"
"His names Blackbeard DOG"
"Trouble in paradise"
"I stood up for you you little shit"
*homoerotically touches curtains* "plum the depths"
"DONT YOU EVER SHUT UP"
Okay and yes obvs it's funny imagining them having to put up with each other for Ed BUT this dynamic??? It's ripe for some enemies to lovers. I mean. They're like. Weirdly obsessed with one another and HATE one another IMMEDIATELY - Blackbeards not in the picture yet and Izzy is CUTTING UP STEDES TOP TO MAKE HIS BOOBIES LOOK ALL SLUTTY. Hes lying to Ed about him for...what reason? Ed doesn't care about stede at this point. It's literally just bizzare random immediate grudge.
And it's so much funner and compelling to me to watch them go from THIS to bickering but dealing with one another for Eds sake to OH MY fucking god I think I'm in love with that TWAT. Like. I just want them to get to that point. That's what I want.
I want someone to insult Stede and Izzy to punch them out and he's like...fuck. FUCK. shit. I actually cared that he was being shat on. Fuck.
I want Stede to be making tea and he realises he knows exactly how Izzy takes it and he has a lil breakdown because oh my god I know what that bastard likes to drink holy shit that's basically a love language.
I want Stede to be like 'this is Edward 🥰 the love of my life and... *sigh* this is Izzy...also the love of my life 😤💖'
I want Izzy to be like 'yes Captain' to Stede and then realise shit does he RESPECT this guy now what the fuck?
I want Stede to kiss eds cheek one evening in front of the crew and then kiss Izzys and Izzy decides not to stab him because...fine. maybe that was...Nice.
I want Izzy to be like...fuck this guy STILL can't hold a sword properly. Get the FUCK over here Bonnet I'm teaching you how to sword fight.
I want Edward to walk in one day from being on deck to find Stede and Izzy cuddling and they just look up and GLARE and dare him to say anything and ACTUALLY I'm only laid here because it's COMFORTABLE and I'm hoping Izzys arm goes to sleep and he SUFFERS-- wait shit darling did your arm actually go to sleep here let me move over for you--
I want someone to be like 'hey Izzy - you still looking for someone to kill Bonnet?' And izzy has to go 'unfortunately...no. I am in love with him. 😕 if u hurt him I will have to kill you I'm afraid. He's a fucking idiot tho'
I want Izzy to realise that Stede actually IS good at fuckery and oh shit he loves TWO dramatic theatre kids he has a TYPE
I just. I don't want the end game of steddy hands to be 'stede and Izzy put up with one another for Eds sake' I want it to be 'they love one another actually and it fucking sucks but also its the best thing that ever happened to either of them'

hitlikehammers' Hobbit-Birthday Fic-Giving Fest
So you know how Hobbits celebrate their birthdays by giving gifts, rather than receiving them?
WELCOME TO MY HOBBIT-STYLE BIRTHDAY FIC-GIVING PROMPT FEST!!!
Tumblr media
wherein YOU prompt ME to write stuff, and to clarify from the outset: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE FOLLOWING ME TO PARTICIPATE. Did you find this at random? Via reblog? Just kinda want a fic but don’t want my babble regularly on your feed? I. DO. NOT. CARE. This is my birthday month (well, soon) and I want to be giving and gregarious and generous and generally positive about writing little gifts so: prompt anyway.
THE RULES
✨ You have THREE (3) choices for prompting
CONCEPT PROMPTS: basically Ao3 tags, or close enough—pick one, give me a little direction if you don’t want me to just write ~anything~, and then you’re all set SONG PROMPTS: pick a song, ideally also pick a lyric from the song, and if you want to give me some short direction for it go ahead; these are the largely-random choice of Spotify on shuffle; it got kinda moody and angsty on me and picked songs I was never huge into and some from legitimately years ago but: the algorithm prevails DIALOGUE PROMPTS: either inspiration or to be included in the fic, I cannot guarantee either way but if you have a STRONG PREFERENCE, you should point that out; and again, if you want to provide a couple words of direction: do so
✨ if I am already writing you a gift fic for something else: THIS IS DIFFERENT (also shorter so even MORE DIFFERENT)—ask again if you want to, you’re more than welcome, honestly it’s more a gift for me because…hobbity-birthday
✨ you have to MESSAGE/ASK ME or COMMENT ON THIS POST with your prompt because I am going to miss it if you reblog or tag or whatever-other-means-of-telling-me that is not a message/ask/comment, and that would be v sad ✨ I will only be writing ONE FIC PER PROMPT, so if you like one? Grab it. If I haven't had time to edit the list (which is likely because timezones and my work schedule) and they get duplicated, I'll reach out to the second claimer for a new prompt.
✨ if you’re not okay with NSWF content, you need to state that in the prompting message; I’m not saying you’re going get NSFW stuff, but if you’re absolutely against it, gotta flag that in advance
✨ because someone asked: if you want to attach one of these to one of my existing fics/‘verses, include that because that’s usually super fun and there are only maybe two fics I wouldn’t try to follow up with a tiny thing on request
✨ the default ship right now is my most currently active one: Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson. If you want to prompt a ship that is not Steddie, note that and check if I’m familiar with it here, or take your chances; I’ll message you if it’s not something I write
SO: pick one of the prompt lists above and send it my way so I can start writing you words.
PROMPTS ARE OPEN THROUGH 31 JANUARY 💜
so...y'know. Prompt me. It's my BIRTHDAY 🎉

QUOTE PROMPTS: pick one, and if you have a context, I’ll take up to 3 words as direction
“That’s… not what that means.”
”They say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that's true.”
“…Why?”
“Now, I’m not going to deny that I was aware of your beauty. But the point is, this has nothing to do with your beauty. As I got to know you, I began to realise that beauty was the least of your qualities. I became fascinated by your goodness. I was drawn in by it.”
“I’ve never felt this way before.”
”So it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard, and we're gonna have to work at this every day."
“What are you doing?”
“I cannot let you burn me up, nor can I resist you. No mere human can stand in a fire and not be consumed.”
“I assume I deserve this, but can you tell me why you want to kill me this time?”
”We aren't here to make things perfect."
“You meant the world to me. I should have protected you.”
"You're the first boy I ever kissed... and I want you to be the last."
“What? Like it’s hard?”
“Every atom of your flesh is as dear to me as my own: in pain and sickness it would still be dear.”
“Who did this to you?”
“I want to tell you with my remaining strength that I love you. I always have. I'll drift next to you every day as a ghost just to be with you. Even if I was banished to the darkest place, my love will keep me from being a lonely spirit."
“You here to finish me off, sweetheart?”
”When I first saw you, I felt like I knew you, and I couldn't stop seeing my life with you, and building a family together. One that isn't stuck in the pain of the past. It's very pretty."
“You’re worth so much more than me.”
“I’ve never had a moment’s doubt. I love you. I believe in you completely. You are my dearest one.”
“This isn’t going to end well.”
"Truth is, sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it."
“Please! You have to let me make this right.”
“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”
“You’re a monster.”
“You and I, it’s as though we have been taught to kiss in heaven and sent down to earth together, to see if we know what we were taught.”
“You don’t want this.”
“You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love--I love--I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.”
“Why did you lie?”
”I don't want to sound foolish, but remember love is what brought you here. And if you've trusted love this far, don't panic now. Trust it all the way."

{happy early birthday i’m SO excited about this! can’t wait to see what you come up with. i’m down with any rating you’re feeling and any topic except cheating or non-con, so other than those two go wild}
wyn! i hate that this took me so long to get you but thank you soooo much for sending it in and making me chuckle. thank you for choosing steddie drive thru, here you go, but sorry. we were out of the spicy combos so i hope plain is okay <333
Tumblr media
ship: steddie | trope: one bed | vibe: bittersweet | length: 1000-1500
the clock on steve's bedside table shows that it's 6:24am when the group calls it quits, its bright red numbers breaking through the haze of a cloudy morning. steve can hear robin in the guest room next door with nancy, max and el as their voices bleed through the walls. if he really tried to listen, he could probably hear them whispering secrets about how scared they really are, how el is putting on a brave face and how max isn't really ready for a fight and how they're all acting fine when they're not.
it's their reality now. fighting in a war that none of them want to fight in.
the boys are rowdy downstairs still until steve hears lucas yell at them all to shut up. he smiles into the back of his hand as he yawns and pulls out a pair of sleep shorts, yanking them on and untangling his shirt from where it got caught around his neck. face planting on his bed is easy with how bone tired he is. his head hurts from drafting plans and his stomach hurts from not having enough rations to go around and his body has been broken enough times that the pressure from the thunderstorm rolling in has his joints inflamed.
steve expects it when his door creaks open, when the light from the hallway bleeds in and mixes with steely grey light coming from his window. "steve?"
eddie's voice is low when he speaks like he's afraid to wake up steve even though the whole point was that they'd be splitting up rooms. his chest feels too bare against the sheets but he's too tired to pick up a new one let alone put it on. he turns his head on his pillow so eddie can hear him without being muffled.
"bunking with me, ed?" he doesn't hear eddie answer but sees his silhouette shift against the door frame, moving his weight from one foot to the other. his fingers are twisting a ring and he looks like a little kid. steve's too tired to think about how they're all still kid of kids fighting a battle like they're grown ups. "if you're coming in, shut the door. it's too bright out there."
without waiting for an answer, steve scoots over gracelessly in his bed and nuzzles his head into the other pillow, winding his arms between the pillow and mattress. eddie walks silently, the swish of his jeans and the clinking of his chains the only thing that tells steve he's in the room. when he doesn't feel movement, he turns his head on the pillow and looks up at eddie with one eye peeled open.
"just get in the bed," he says firmly when he spots eddie standing by the bed like he's waiting for permission.
eddie hesitates and doesn't look at steve. "i can just sleep on the floor..."
steve groans. not this again. "eddie, c'mon. it's late, we both need a good night's sleep and you're not going to get that on my hard ass floors. i don't have cooties, i promise."
eddie lets out this sound that's not quite a sigh but steve can't place what it really is. he expects eddie to put up a fight like he normally does when he's being weird about sharing the bed but then the mattress dips not a second later and any subsequent movement stops. he doesn't feel eddie situate himself, doesn't hear him take off any clothes, only the thud of his sneakers falling to the floor.
"you can get comfortable, you know," steve says, huffing out a breath, thinking about getting up and getting eddie a pair of sweatpants so he won't be sleeping in jeans.
"i've slept in worse," is all eddie says before laying flat on his back.
steve rolls his eyes, too tired to argue, and curls back up on his side. from here, he can look out the window and see the wind rustling the treetops against the grey sky. even outside looks angry, unsettled, like it knows what the group is feeling and showing it back to them.
eddie lets out a sigh and twitches minutely against the mattress enough times that it starts to bug steve. he can feel the energy in the room shift because he knows that eddie wants to move, wants to take off his jeans at least, but won't for some unknown reason. eddie sighs again, more of a huff than anything and steve sits up out of frustration.
"okay, what's going on man," he asks and rubs a hand over his too tired face. eddie's eyebrows are pulled together, lips quirked down like he's forcing himself not to say something.
"just go to sleep, steve."
"fuck that," steve halfway shouts, his voice too loud in the stilling house. "i can't sleep when you're over there doing your best impression of a wood board."
eddie lifts himself up onto an elbow and scowls at steve. "really? that's that best metaphor you can come up with?"
"shut up, it's late- or well, early- so excuse me for not waxing poetic about how you're laying there like the mattress is going to bite you."
they're in a stalemate. steve is staring at eddie who's staring right back like he's waiting for something, waiting for the shoe to drop or for the world to open up and swallow him whole. they've gotten to a point where they can read each other fully especially after everything that happened in march. they were by each other's sides more often than not and when you're that attached to someone, when you've put them back together piece by broken piece, you learn their tells quick.
but then it happens. something shifts in the early morning hours and steve can feel it happen because suddenly he feels small and eddie looks young and it's like they both understand each other without saying a word.
steve settles back down, laying on his side, facing eddie. he curls up and keeps his hand between them, reaching for something he doesn't even realize he's reaching for. eddie does the same when he lays back down, jeans crinkling as he adjusts and pulls his legs up close to his chest.
"what's wrong?" steve's voice is soft in that 6am way when he asks. his eyes are soft in that eddie way, too.
"i'm scared, i guess," eddie mutters out, his eyes focusing on his hand as his fingers dance along the fitted sheet. "today was a lot and it... got me thinking."
he hears a thud in the guest room and a hushed 'sorry' from robin followed by giggles from the girls like they're at a sleepover and not at the end of the world. he wishes it was a sleepover and not boot camp for an end of the world army.
"uh oh, you thinking?" steve says in that soft way again, a smile pulling at the corner of his mouth. "that's dangerous."
eddie huffs out a laugh and keeps his eyes down. "ha ha, nice one. haven't heard that before."
they get silent again and the rain that was threatening to pour starts coming down in a pitter patter against the windows. it picks up quickly along with the wind and the thunder and it doesn't escape him how eddie flinches at the sound every so often. steve wants to distract him, shield him from whatever is scaring him because that's who he is. the shield, the protector, the guy who's there to keep them all from falling apart with brute strength and biting sarcasm.
"so you were thinking..." he prods, trying to fill the space with something other than the noises outside that serve as a constant reminder of how close eddie was to dying. "care to share?"
eddie looks up as thunder booms somewhere in the distance but he doesn't look scared this time. he's determined, steady. steve doesn't have time to think about how much he loves that look on his face before suddenly there's a hand over top of his own, warm where it presses into every open space his hand offers.
"i think i'll keep this one a secret for now, if that's okay with you, king steve."
the warmth on the top of steve's hand spreads like molten gold through his hands like he is but an object under king midas's touch. it spreads to through his veins, up his arms to his heart and it thuds harshly against his chest at the feeling. when lightening lights up the early morning sky, steve can see it reflected in eddie's dark eyes.
"m'not a king anymore," is all he can get out, afraid that if he keeps talking for too long, 6am secrets will spill out across the mattress and he'll have no way of taking them back. eddie's hand twitches, squeezes steve's gently before leaving it there and closing his eyes.
"sure you are. always have been."

Headcanon Series #12
Here goes some Stranger Things stuff because I finally watched it yes it broke me so here I give you some Eddie centered Headcanons because that guy is 100% me as a fictional character and I died with him in the Upside Down which makes him a huge inspiration :)
Yes I ship Steddie so fuck off if you don't like it
1. Eddie always humming some metal or rock songs, most times without even realising it (that's how Steve learns all the great bands)
2. When Eddie finally graduates, Hellfire throws him a party and honours him with a framed picture of him and "Hail to thee our infantry, still brave eyond the grave"
3. No but seriously, they definetly honoured him post mortem
4. There is this black stray cat in the neighbourhood who keeps scratching at his door so Eddie feeds it and adopts it eventually
5. He names it Ozzy because it once brought him a dead bat as a present and Eddie still a little uncomfortable around bats almost pees his pants because no way his cat just helped him deal a little better with that trauma
6. Ozzy becomes his mental support animal from then
7. That cat is a little sceptical about the kids at first but as soon as Dustin enters, it won't let go of him because let's be honest Dustin is so Eddie's son
8. Eddie is convinced that Ozzy can read his mind
9. Or that Ozzy is from the Upside Down which freaks him out a little but untill now Ozzy hasn't tried to slaughter him in his sleep so he gets comfortable eventually
10. Eddie and Steve move together in a cute little house
11. Corroded Coffin goes on tour one day and of course Eddie takes Steve with him but the kids (who are no longer kids but it doesn't matter) won't let both of their parents "leave them alone to rot in the town" so they all join and Steve has a little breakdown because ge will end up being a babysitter again and he's not okay with that
12. Of course he is, he loves his children
13. Ozzy can't be left behind and in the end the tour bus is stuffed with people
14. The kids are Corroded Coffin's biggest fans and love to brag about how they know all members personally
15. Eddie doesn't throw his guitar pick during concerts, he hands out dices - just for the flavor
16. He will happily sign anything for you with "The Munson Killer" if you ask him about the homicides during autograph session
17. Yes, his name was cleared by the government pretty fast after the earthquake but people are still a little uncomfortable around him - he takes it with humour
18. Since its the 90s where you can only be subtly gay, Steve and Eddie get pseudo married in Mike and El's yard in autumn after the tour ends - Argyle comes down to Hawkins to be their wedding officiant (they don't regret a single moment during the ceremony, it was hilarious) Robin ist Steve's Maid of Honour and Eddie asks Nancy because honestly, Nancy may have had eyes for Steve for a while when Jonathan was back but she saw the looks Eddie and him exchanged when they thought the other one wasn't watching and that tension so she eventually sat Eddie down and told him to ask Steve out and they kind of bonded over the years after that because in the end there is an understanding among those who love Steve Harrington
19. Steve gifts Eddie Metallica cards as their 'honeymoon' - Eddie cries for half an hour
20. He pays Steve back by slamming adoption papers on the kitchen table on their anniversary in 2006 with the words "You got me everything I could dream of back then. My turn. Bam."
22. Eddie and Steve got properly married in 2014 when same-sex marriage became legal again, surrounded by their three kids and their kids with their own children - "Why do I feel so old, Eddie?" "Because you are old. Now smile for the pictures, Grandpa!"
24. And yes, of course they had very exhausting negotiations about the number of kids they'd have

20 Questions for Fic Writers
tagged by @steddieas-shegoes like, forever ago and I keep forgetting.
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 42! most are steddie with some criminal minds fics from over ten years ago buried deep.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 252,271
3. What fandoms do you write for? right now, just stranger things! I've been toying around with writing destiel again but if I did, it'd be anonymous. (after my entire portfolio was wiped from livejournal, I'm still in pain about it.)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? 1. and if I get burned, at least we were electrified.  2. i made this mess with love.  3. what you feel is what you are (and what you are is beautiful)  4. the answers are all inside of this.  5. Livin' On A Prayer
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? yes! eventually! sometimes, it'll take me awhile because I just get backed up but I read them and smile and kick my feet, and even though it takes me a bit to reply, those comments are what keep me writing. <3
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? happy endings are guaranteed in this house, always. I'll never write an angsty ending-- canon hurts me enough. the most bittersweet ending though would have to be scar-crossed lovers.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? oooo, that's tough because they're all happy endings! but I think over the hills and far away because, by virtue of it being a long fic, the happy ending feels deserved. those two went through it to get to that ending which made it so satisfying to write!
8. Do you get hate on fics? I haven't, no, and I'm very grateful for that. but I'm also like, super liberal with the block function. we cultivate our spaces here, friends!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do, but only in the context of like, what else is happening in the fic. I just can't write pwp lmao, major kudos to everyone else who does it so well! I'm in awe of your talent perpetually.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I wrote a supernatural/charmed crossover au many, many years ago. but recently? kicks cracky supernatural/stranger things crossover au scrivener wip under the couch. nope.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? not in this fandom!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? not that I know of, but that'd be super cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? not yet... but I have some plans. keep an eye out next year. 👀
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? steddie broke something in my brain, but destiel laid the path for it be broken to start with.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? liturgies & devotionals, unfortunately. or at least in its current existence in scrivener? it's a big undertaking but if I can make it less complicated, maybe it stands a chance.
16. What are your writing strengths? not once have I been able to answer this and feel comfortable with it, but I do really enjoy the omniscent third person point of view and have gotten compliments on it. and narrative writing, I like setting the scene and developing introspection.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? there are several but god, fucking dialogue! it's my kryptonite. that, and actually ending a story. context disease is so real.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? the only other language I've ever used is a snippet of Klingon, but I'd also feel comfortable using bits of French because I know a good bit of French. anything else would just feel super inauthentic because idk what the fuck I'm saying.
19. First fandom you wrote for? uh, it was around 2001 and it was for a fandom that I no longer associate with.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? to the surprise of no one: over the hills and far away <333 so much of me is in that fic and it was hugely healing.

20 questions for fic writers!
Tagged by the talented @jesuisici33 @hoodie-buck @wikiangela @spotsandsocks
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
9
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
38,361
3. What fandoms do you write for?
9-1-1/Buddie
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
I want you to be selfish with me (4.6k M)
Tapping Morse Code into your heart (2.8k E)
You bring me comfort (4.2k T)
You with the dark curls, you with the watercolour eyes (1.6k M)
I Can See You (3k T)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yeah, I love getting comments, it literally makes my day so I always take the time to respond. Though I sometimes struggle with what to say so I might respond slowly but that's because I overthink everything 😂
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh, it's either I ain't proud of all the punches that I've thrown (826 T) in which Eddie's in Jail and he almost calls Buck (Coda for episode s03e05 Rage) OR Under the Guise of Violence (3k E) Eddie can't touch Buck unless it's to hurt him, after a sparring match Buck confronts him and it leads them back to Eddie's bedroom- I had a lot of people comment about the angsty ending 😂
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I'm kinda a sucker for happy endings, this might be cheating as it's not finished yet but when it is Alright, Cowboy, Go Get 'Em (17k E) is probably going to have the happiest ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've had someone comment some criticism which I didn't think much of at the time because what they pointed out was something I was unhappy with myself and it did actually help me fix it but I realise now after talking to my friend who got me in to fic writing that that wasn't cool since I hadn't actually asked for any feedback.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Oh yeah, mostly just smut with a few kinks thrown in, playing around with light sub/dom stuff. I definitely want to write some more hardcore stuff in the future.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I haven't, I'm not opposed, since I only write Buddie atm it probably would be a Lonestar cross over, maybe Tarlos? But I have so many WIPs that it will be very far in the future.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope, that would be pretty dope!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, I would love to try one day.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Buddie's pretty much up there, but I do love Steddie and Anidala
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
God, none of them I hope but the one that's the furthest from being done is probably either my MMA Rivals AU or Mafia Husbands AU.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Ahhhh maybe dialogue and plot.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Uh, finishing? It's probably the biggest one atm, I just keep losing the mojo and struggling to stay focused until the end.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I love to but I have to make sure I'm using it right and appropriately.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Technically Sharkboy and Lava Girl when I was 8. 1D was the first I ever posted tho.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Probably one I haven't finished or posted yet called You make bad days infinitely better I'm really trying to make the writing pretty, you know? And I love it and I will finish it at some point.

I Found Myself a Cheerleader 16
Chapter 16 out of 28
Bumped to the lowest step on the social ladder after his fight with Billy, Steve gets roped in with the cheer team. What starts as a favor to help them out when one member breaks her leg in turn for protection from the brunt of the bullying, sets the universe on a different path.
In this chapter, Chrissy finally reaches out again, telling those who know about what truly happens in Hawkins that something else is afoot. At the same time, the death of a star basketball player rocks the town and forces Eddie and Steve to face each other again for the first time since their fight.
On AO3.
Ships: steddie & buckingham
Warnings: death mention, general season 4 shenanigans
~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 16: The Boathouse
Lucas had been amazing at his game and Steve genuinely thinks that spring break might be a fresh start for all of them.
He and Robin clock to work that morning, still giggling about Tammy Thompson of all people that had shown up last night. Still as muppety as ever. Steve can’t bring himself to feel bad about how he ignored his date to joke with Robin, especially because Chrissy caught their eye while they were doing it and gave a real smile for the first time in weeks.
They’re stocking shelves when the door rings and Chrissy is there. Actually there. Seeking them out. Them!
Both of them freeze for a moment, before Steve breaks out in a smile of relief and goes to hug her, as he exclaims: “Chris! Oh my god, how are you?”
Chrissy is quiet for a second, then Steve feels how she starts to tremble in his arms. The relief at her appearance making place for worry as he holds her close and makes panicked eyes at Robin, who returns them twofold. He starts to whisper placating comments, leading Chrissy to the counter as he lets out silent tears.
Steve gets her up on the counter, signaling Robin to go sit next to her. She gives him big eyes in return and he glares at her to go. No time to panic about having a crush on the girl you’re comforting, because Chrissy is still crying.
Fortunately, Robin goes, awkwardly wrapping an arm around Chrissy as she says: “It’s okay, we’re here. I don’t know how comforting that is, we’re both idiots, but, I mean, it is something. Because we lo- care for you, you know. And we want you to not be crying. Not that you should stop. Well, you should, because I want you to not be sad, but crying is good sometimes too. Like, healthily expressing emotions is good and I- I am going to shut up now.”
As she always does when Robin rambles, Chrissy giggles. Though right now it sounds more like a wet chuckle. She wipes her eyes and softly says: “I’m sorry about that.”
“No need to apologize,” Steve tells her. “Wanna talk about it?”
“It’s just-” Chrissy takes a breath and makes a helpless gesture as she figures out what she wants to say, before asking: “Do you ever feel like you’re losing your mind?”
“Uhm,” both Steve and Robin look at each other. Their eyes reflect Russian bunkers, a monster made of flesh, Dustin singing over the radio and crashing a car together on purpose.
“Just on a daily basis,” Robin offers. “I mean, I am friends with King Steve and Cheer Queen Chrissy Cunningham. I play trumpet. That should be illegal.”
That makes Chrissy laugh again, this time less wetly. “I feel like you know me better than just cheer queen,” she says, turning a little more serious as she goes on. “What should be illegal is how I ignored you two. I’m sorry.”
“I’m sure you had your reasons,” Robin immediately offers, obviously wanting to make Chrissy feel good about herself again.
Steve, however, isn’t wearing rose tinted glasses and can say: “Yeah. I’m sure you did. You can tell us, you know, if anything we did upset you. We won’t judge.”
“Oh, no, it’s not you guys, not at all,” Chrissy quickly says, her arms waving about, much to the relief of both Steve and Robin. Steve had been pretty sure it wasn’t them, but days of Robin’s worrying might have put him on edge a little.
“Then what happened?” Steve asks.
“Anything we can do?” Robin adds.
Chrissy looks between them as she bites her lip, obviously deciding whether or not to tell them what’s been going on. Without meaning to Steve holds his breath, letting out a relieved sigh when Chrissy says: “Okay, yeah, uhm, alright. Just- Just promise you won’t think I’m crazy.”
“We won’t,” Robin promises. “Seriously. Never. You have to get like really out there to get us to not believe you.”
“Yeah, exactly,” Steve agrees, before Robin can say too much about things they are not allowed to talk about, because the government will quite literally come for them. God, he loves Robin but her lack of filter around people she likes is bad for his health.
“Okay,” Chrissy nods again after studying both of them for a moment, believing their promises to be true, thank fuck. “Okay, yeah, so I- I, uhm, have been seeing things. Like, I’ll be a school and hear my mom or I’ll hear a clock. It’s just really weird and I’m- I’m so scared.”
Robin pulls her closer in a comforting manner, looking at Steve to find words, because she might make it worse with her medical rambles. However, something is bugging Steve and he only frowns and asks: “Your mom?”
“Yeah,” Chrissy says. “I was at school in the bathroom and suddenly it went all grayish and it was like she was banging on the door, yelling at me about,” her voice gets smaller, “you know, food stuff. But she sounded all wrong. It was-” she looks unsure, then finishes “It felt like I was in another dimension.”
The world freezes alongside the blood in Steve’s veins.
There are a million things he wants to say, a thousand questions he wants to ask, a hundred denials playing on his lips. But none of them come out as he stands there, glued to the ground.
Robin sends him a look. He has told her about the Upside Down, but she has never experienced it beyond the Mind Flayer. She hasn’t seen a monster crawl out of the walls, lights flickering around her, she hasn’t been attacked by demodogs on a bus, accepting that they day might be her last and she hasn’t felt the cloying air of the tunnels.
She just doesn’t know the full extend that statement has. What it might mean. How the fear has gripped at Steve’s heart at those words. So it is quiet, the words hanging into the air.
Chrissy shifts under Steve’s stare as behind him the TV plays, though he isn’t hearing it past the rushing in his ear. It is clear she wants to say something – Robin too, but she has enough sense that she can’t in front of Chrissy – however, before she can the bell of the door rings again.
All of them snap their eyes towards it. Unable to glare at whoever broke this important and pivotal moment, all of them feeling like they’ve been caught.
In the threshold are Dustin and Max. And with everything, it is a relief to see the two, even if they look out of breath and add to the foreboding sense of dread that has taken a hold of Steve.
Max’s eyes glance up at the TV and Steve follows, now registering what the news anchor has been saying. A murder has been committed. Someone died last night. Then he registers the trailer on the screen is Eddie’s and he feels sick. What is happening? What has brought Dustin and Max here to Family Video today?
“How many phones do you have?” Dustin asks, sounding like he had done in ‘84 outside the Wheeler house.
“Two. Why?” Steve answers.
“Technically three, if you count Keith’s,” Robin adds, more with the program and he is so grateful to her right now.
Dustin and Max share a look, before agreeing that three works. Then they invade the counter and take over the computer without explaining, ruining all the work he and Robin have done today and making Chrissy close off again.
“What are you doing?” Steve demands. He has to get his racing thoughts in order and figure out what is going on. Right now. He wants answers.
“Setting up a base of operations here,” Dustin answers, giving him exactly zero information.
“Base of operations?” Steve questions, not liking how it sounds. Also not liking how Dustin starts typing on the computer while ignoring Steve. This is so not happening right now. He tries to get him to stop. “Get off.”
“I need it,” Dustin counters, glaring at Steve.
“For what?” Steve exclaims, getting exasperated with how Dustin isn’t explaining anything. He has just heard Chrissy say different dimensions, someone died at Eddie’s trailer and Dustin and Max are here with the looks of people who know something is wrong and Steve needs answers. Right. Now.
“Eddie’s friends’ phone numbers,” Dustin explains, though it isn’t really an explanation and Steve is getting fed up with these non-answers.
Robin luckily catches onto it and continues the interrogation before Steve can explode. “Calling Eddie’s friends is an emergency?”
“Correct!” Dustin says.
“Please just explain yourselves,” Robin yells, the volume stopping Dustin’s typing and making both him and Max turn to look at where she’s still sitting on the counter next to Chrissy.
“The person that died is Patrick, I saw him enter the trailer with Eddie last night when I fed the neighbor’s dog some scraps,” Max tells them. “We want to find Eddie before the cops do. No, we need to find him.”
Next to her Dustin nods vigorously, but Steve is send reeling again. The police thinks Eddie has killed someone. Killed Patrick. Holy shit that’s Lucas’ friend Patrick. Was Lucas there? Is he okay? Fuck, did Eddie do it? No, right? He won’t. Eddie wouldn’t hurt a fly. Too nice. Always too nice to everyone.
His silence, however, is interpreted way differently by Dustin, who has never known that Steve ever knew Eddie, beyond their fake rivalry that turned real. He says: “You think Eddie’s guilty, don’t you?”
“Whoa, whoa,” Steve says, but before he can say more, Dustin demands: “Max, tell them what you saw.”
Max glares at him, then looks at Steve like she is bringing terrible news as she admits: “A little after they went inside, the lights flickered. We have shitty electricity, I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but it was about the time of the murder.”
“Fuck,” Steve breathes. Pieces float in his mind in a way that will click together if he has the peace to think clearly for a moment.
“What’s happening?” Chrissy asks, sounding scared. She isn’t used to the insanity of the party, not to mention the Upside Down.
Steve would love to comfort her right now, but he isn’t in the mindset to do so and Robin is right there anyway, so he just says: “Chrissy, I need you to repeat what you told me and Rob. About what you felt in that bathroom.”
Chrissy looks at him like he’s insane and he probably does look a little out of his mind, but Robin has his back, encouraging Chrissy and telling her it’s okay.
Dustin and Max both frown as they study Chrissy curiously, who flushes in embarrassment, before saying: “It felt like I was in a different dimension.”
“Holy shit,” Dustin repeats, urgency creeping back in his voice: “We need to find Eddie, right now.”
“I know,” Steve says, pushing Dustin back to the computer and saying: “Type and think. Did Eddie ever mention a hiding place?”
Immediately Dustin goes back to typing, Max already picking up the phone to call whatever number Dustin will rattle off as Steve wracks his brain, thinking off all those late nights they shared. If Eddie ever mentioned a safe place. A hiding place.
He can feel Robin’s eyes tracking him, Chrissy’s too. They know how he is still a bit of a mess over Eddie and now he is in trouble. Though Robin is the one that understands, Chrissy still looks a bit overwhelmed and unsure about what the hell is going on.
She has already been forgotten about by Max and Dustin, but Steve hears her ask: “What the hell is going on? Are we really going to look for him? He might be a killer.”
“If we’re right about what’s going on, he isn’t,” Steve tells her. “But I can’t tell you more until we’re sure, because it could be dangerous.”
“What?” Chrissy swallows, sounding scared and like she thinks they’re all insane.
“Don’t worry about it,” Robin assures her. “Trust me. It sounds crazy, but we’ve done something like this before. Well, not this, of course, we don’t even know what this is, but it’s going to be just fine, promise.”
Chrissy looks skeptic at Robin’s words, but decides to keep to the background, watching them all with cautious eyes. Steve feels bad about keeping her out of the loop, while also dragging her along with them, but if she has seen something already, she’s in danger and safer with them.
A few customers come in, giving the hubbub at the register a weird look. Robin is still stuck next to Chrissy, so Steve tries to distract them, so they won’t hear what they’re doing. Who they are looking for.
When a girl comes in and starts flirting with him, he reaches his limit. He is worried about Chrissy, he is worried about Eddie, he is scared out of his mind about the Upside Down being back and he is terrified to all hell. He doesn’t want to pretend to be into this girl right now. He can’t.
So, he snaps: “I don’t know what kind of movie you wanna watch. We organize them by genre, I’m sure you’re capable of picking on your own.”
The girl looks shocked and a little offended, before stomping away as Steve deflates slightly. He didn’t mean to make her upset, he just needs some room to think. To breathe.
Robin appears next to him, Chrissy clinging onto her, having apparently decided Robin is her anchor in all this. Robin takes his hand and softly asks: “Are you okay?”
“Not really,” Steve admits, taking a deep breath. “I’m- I- I can’t think right now.”
“Hey, Eddie is going to be fine,” Robin says and while Steve knows he’s worried about Eddie, it’s not until she says that that it hits him.
Eddie is in trouble.
Big trouble. Upside Down trouble. He could be in danger, he could be taken by whatever had hurt Patrick, he could be dead. This isn’t jocks coming after him for being a freak or getting busted with his drugs.
“Fuck, I wish I could still get high and forget all this shit,” he groans, hating how the thought of being high makes him nervous ever since Starcourt.
He remembers Eddie offering him a joint a few times, Steve always rejected with a smile, hoping Eddie won’t take offense. After a few times, Eddie had asked if he doesn’t smoke and Steve had been nervous to say no, wanting to be cool, but unable to lie to Eddie when he seemed so sincere about it. So he told Eddie he didn’t really want to no and Eddie had smiled and said that it was all okay, joking: “Rick won’t mind if I sell instead of share my stash, sweetheart.”
“Rick, Reefer Rick,” he says, not having heard if Robin or Chrissy replied to his comment, having been lost in thought.
“Who’s that?” Robin frowns.
“It’s the guy Eddie gets his drugs from,” Steve explains, as he rushes to the register, pushing Dustin aside, who squawks. “He might have an account here.”
“Who?” Dustin asks, both him and Robin leaning over Steve’s shoulder to look along.
“Reefer Rick, Eddie’s drug guy,” Steve says.
“Of course you know the drug guy,” Dustin rolls his eyes, which Steve ignores. He doesn’t blame Dustin for being on edge, so is he and it’s not like Dustin has a reason to think Steve would know that because of any other reason.
So, he just ignores it as they go through the list to find the Rick that is like Reefer Rick. Steve feels relief when they find the guy. Eddie is not out in the wind anymore.
Even though both he and Robin need this job, neither of them think twice about closing up the store and getting into Steve’s car. He doesn’t know if Eddie will be happy to see them, if he is in a dangerous mindset, if he will be mad or scared. It makes him anxious, but he is also anxious to see Eddie, to make sure no monster has crawled out of he wall and gotten to him.
The house is old and creaky and no matter how much Dustin bangs on the door, no one opens. Steve also wants Eddie to open the door, but knows better than that, so he just peers in and hopes he’ll see signs of life, but it is dead inside. Empty.
Fuck, what if Eddie isn’t in here? What if he is dead, something Steve has realized could be, but hasn’t fully entertained as an actual possibility. But the news hadn’t said a name. It could be Eddie’s body that they found.
God, he might be spiraling now. His breath isn’t fully happening correctly and he feels like he can jump out of his skin.
Before his breakdown can take an embarrassing turn, Robin points out the shack that is off to the side and the little bit of hope is enough to get Steve’s feet moving again.
The shack is easily broken into, but looks abandoned at first glance. An uneasy feeling hanging in the air. Steve regrets not going to pick up his nail bat, they don’t know what Eddie might be hiding from. Needing to have some sort of weapon, he picks up an oar and starts poking with it. From his fights with Billy, he remembers how crucial it is to have his hands free when attacked.
“What are you doing?” Dustin asks as Steve pokes the tarp. He pokes it again and Dustin repeats: “What are you doing?”
“He might be in here,” Steve counters, not thinking that Eddie killed anyone, but certain that he is on edge, dangerous. Not alone, perhaps.
“So take the tarp off,” Dustin tells him.
Steve doesn’t have the energy to explain why that would be a bad idea, so he just scowls: “If you’re so brave, you take the tarp off,” to put the twerp in his place.
“Hey, look over here,” Max suddenly speaks up and Steve turns as Robin and Chrissy follow Max to look at her findings. “Someone was here.”
“Maybe he heard us. Got spooked and ran,” Robin suggests, as Chrissy huddles closer to her while glancing around with scared eyes.
“Don’t worry. Steve will get him with his oar,” Dustin snipes.
“I know you think you’re being funny,” Steve replies, not one to be insulted by a kid, whom he knows has no sense of self preservation, “but considering almost everyone in this room has nearly died a hundred times, personally, I don't find it funny in the slight-”
Without warning Steve gets cut off, a cacophony of sound all around him as he is put off balance and marched backwards.
“Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,” Steve yells, scrambling against the hands holding him, recognizing Eddie and hoping he’ll realize it’s Steve and stop his attack. However, he doesn’t get his hopes up after their last conversation.
Eddie pins him to the wall, broken bottle under his chin as he threatens him. Steve now remembers how Eddie stood up to Billy, the strength hidden under that leather jacket. So, Steve is literally trapped and at his mercy.
The look in Eddie’s eyes is a little wild, looking like a cornered animal, scared and ready to fight to get away from it all.
Steve is quite terrified, but he can admit that the display of strength is hot and even in this disheveled state, Eddie looks beautiful. God, Steve has missed those brown eyes close to his, missed Eddie’s warmth, missed Eddie.
However, he is still aware of the danger of the situation and after the disorientating charge, sound is slowly filtering in again. He hears Dustin’s frantic voice plead: “Eddie! Stop! Eddie. Eddie. It's me, it’s Dustin. This is Steve. He’s not going to hurt you, right, Steve?”
“Right, yeah,” Steve agrees, realizing that he is likely the most dangerous in Eddie’s eyes and he hates how that is what he did to Eddie. That he made him scared of Steve.
“Steve, why don’t you drop the oar,” Dustin suggest in a way that is more a demand.
Slowly Steve moves to drop the oar, well aware that a wrong move could end up with his throat sliced open. However, it’s not slow enough. Eddie pushes against him again and a small, horny part of Steve has to work to not make a more embarrassing noise than a groan.
“He’s cool, he’s cool,” Dustin assures Eddie when he presses against Steve and it’s so like him to still have Steve’s back, despite all his digs and ribbing. You die, I die.
“I’m cool, Eds, I’m cool,” Steve assures Eddie, looking into his eyes intently. “I promise. I’m here to help. I’m so sorry.”
There is something in Eddie’s eyes as he hears Steve’s voice. Steve can feel Eddie’s hands trembling where he is pinning Steve to the wall. No dimples in sight and frown lines that are usually not there, break Steve’s heart. Those beautiful eyes look too haunted for this kind soul.
“What are you doing here?” Eddie asks, it sounds like it was meant to be a demand, but his voice is too fucked up for it to come across like that.
“We’re looking for you,” Dustin jumps in, trying to calm the situation. Out of everyone here, he is the closest to Eddie and Eddie is most likely to listen to him.
“We’re here to help,” Robin adds, sounding like she’s terrified for Steve, a sentiment he appreciates, especially when he hears Chrissy soft squeak.
“Eddie, these are my friends,” Dustin goes on. “You know Robin. From band.”
And Steve hears Robin do her stupid trumpet impression that still isn’t funny, but right now he just loves her for it.
“This is my friend, Max,” Dustin moves on and Steve can’t hear her, but she must do something. “The one who never wants to play DnD. And that’s Chrissy. From cheer. You know Chrissy right, Eddie?”
Eddie nods, it’s small, but it’s there and Steve’s heartbeat slows down. Whatever is happening right now, Eddie at least isn’t going to murder Steve because he’s scared and Steve has been an asshole to him.
Dustin is desperate as he says: “Eddie. We’re on your side. I swear on my mother.”
Steve hears the other’s echo it and he catches Eddie’s gaze and gives a soft smile: “Yeah, on Dustin’s mother.”
That gets a small snort out of Eddie – it’s not the deep, rumbling laugh that Steve adores, but it is a something, a bit that fills up a crack – as Eddie lets him go.
Without Eddie holding him up, Steve collapses. His legs are jelly and his heart rate is still a bit too high to be comfortable. Chrissy and Robin are by his side immediately, checking him over and making sure he is okay.
A little bit away, Eddie is curled into himself on the ground and Steve wants to go over to comfort him, but he’s not sure if it will be welcome. So, he keeps to the back as Dustin says: “We just want to talk.” He reaches for the bottle, retreating when Eddie is unwilling to let go. “Okay.”
“We want to know what happened,” Robin says and Steve glad she is asking questions, because he is desperate to know and unsure where he stands.
“You won’t believe me,” Eddie says and Steve knows the feeling. Remembering coming back to school after the Byers house and someone in the basketball team asking if he was okay. How he didn’t have the words. He still doesn’t know what to say.
“Try us,” Max says and Steve is glad she knows what to say, that she can make Eddie look up a bit of hope among the fear on his face.
Eddie looks around at that, eyes landing on Steve, who gives him an encouraging look. He wishes he could reach out and touch, but Eddie quickly snaps his eyes away and hunches in on himself as he takes a deep breath.
“Patrick, he-” Eddie starts, swallowing. “He wanted to buy drugs. Said he wanted to forget about life for a bit and hey, that’s my whole business. I thought it was just weed, but he wanted something stronger, so he came by my trailer.”
As he remembers what happened, he looks visibly shaken. Small and scared. It looks wrong on Eddie, who has always been so confident and bigger than life. Without thinking about it, Steve scoots a little closer to offer come comfort.
Eddie glances at him and Steve holds his breath, then he leans in a bit, before going on: “I went to grab shit, he was unresponsive. Like he couldn’t hear me. Then his body just like lifted up into air and, uh… And he just like hung there.” He swallows again. “And his bones- he-” Eddie whimpers, a quiet broken sound. “His bones started to snap. His eyes, man. It- it was like there was something like inside his head. Pulling.”
“I- I didn’t know what to do,” Eddie stammers, looking guilty at the confession. “So, I- I ran away. I left him there.” He looks around. “You all think I’m crazy, right?”
Chrissy looks like she’s about to say yes, so Steve gets ahead of her and says: “No, we don’t think you’re crazy.”
“Don’t bullshit me, man. I know how this sounds,” Eddie yells, standing up at if he needs to move to deal with it all. He has always been fidgety.
“We’re not bullshitting you,” Max says.
“We believe you,” Robin adds.
“Why do we do that?” Chrissy asks in a quiet voice and Eddie gestures to her as if to say ‘see, she’s at least sane here.’
“Look,” Dustin starts, “what I'm about to tell you might be a little difficult to take. You know how people say Hawkins is cursed?” Eddie nods as Dustin explains. “They’re not way off. There’s another world. A world hidden beneath Hawkins. Sometimes it bleeds into ours.”
“Like ghosts and shit?” Eddie asks, looking skeptical.
“There are some things worst than ghosts,” Max says and Steve knows what she is thinking off, putting a hand on her shoulder to comfort her.
“It’s been a fucked up few years,” Steve says, hoping to loosen a bit of tension with the wording, though not changing the subject.
“Wait, you’ve seen something like what Eddie said before?” Chrissy asks, sounding horrified.
“Yeah,” Robin says. “We’ve seen something like this before. Lot more than just seeing, if I’m honest. Not exactly like this of course, but similar, right guys? Sorry, I haven’t been part of the club for long.”
“Yeah, we have,” Dustin nods. “I had a lizard that was actually a demodog, this creature from another dimension that nearly killed Steve in the junkyard.”
“Nearly killed me and Lucas too,” Max scowls.
“It was friendly,” Dustin protests.
Steve can see both Chrissy and Eddie look a bit terrified and confused, so he cuts both of them off with a: “Okay, no more talking from you two. That shit still haunts my nightmares.”
He turns back to Eddie, a flash of understanding crossing over the other’s eyes as both of them remember that night when Eddie drove Steve to Robin. Eddie cocks his head as if to ask was that that? And Steve gives a crooked smile that says ‘sadly, yes.’
“Don’t tell me to shut up,” Dustin scowls. “Besides, it was totally badass too.”
“Just explain the Upside Down a bit for Chris and Eds,” Steve sighs.
“Eds,” Dustin repeats with an odd look, which both Eddie and Steve ignore, until Dustin moves on to explain the basics. It’s not a good explanation, since none of them really know what’s happening now and Dustin wasn’t there for the Byers house, the attack on the lab or all that happened outside the bunker for the summer.
So, when he is done Eddie and Chrissy look confused, but that is better than being scared. Though Eddie still looks a bit green around the gills.
“I don’t know, man,” he says. “That doesn’t sound like it can really happen.”
“Then what happened with Patrick?” Robin counters and Eddie winces at the name, which makes Steve feel bad, though he knows they need Eddie to believe and trust them right now. “That night, did you see anything?
“Dark particles maybe?” Max asks and Eddie shakes his head.
“It would almost look like dust, swirling dust,” Dustin says, hoping it would trigger a reaction, a memory.
“No, man, there was nothing you could see, or- or touch,” Eddie says with a shake of his head. He looks off for a few seconds then adds in a haunted voice: “You know, I- I tried to wake him up, man. He couldn’t move. It was like he- he was in a trance or something.”
“Or under a spell,” Dustin offers.
“A curse,” Eddie says, looking scared.
“Vecna’s curse,” Dustin says, eyes wide.
“Who’s Vecna?” Chrissy asks, sounding scared.
“An undead creature of great power,” Dustin answer. “A spell caster. A dark wizard.”
“It’s from their DnD campaign,” Steve tells her. “They always give these things names from their game to make it easier to talk about. We’ve had a demogorgon, demodog and the Mind Flayer. Now it’s Vecna.”
“And his spells cause particles?” Chrissy asks, sounding unsure at the words.
Robin looks back to her and Steve can see in how she holds herself. She says: “I mean, not directly, but the particle are part of the Upside Down, right?”
“Yeah, we saw them in the tunnels,” Dustin answers.
“I- I, uhm, saw those particles in the bathroom,” Chrissy admits.
“Holy shit, Chris,” Steve breathes. He doesn’t know exactly what’s happening, but it’s fucked up and Eddie is wanted for murder and Chrissy is cursed or something and Steve can’t think of anything to fix this.
“Am I- Am I in danger?” Chrissy asks, voice small.
“No, of course not,” Robin assures her, looking at Steve with pleading eyes to say something, to back her up, but he’s lost for words.
Surprising him is Eddie, who puts a hand on his shoulder and gets him to look at Eddie. Steve wants to break down, cry a little, burying himself in Eddie’s arms and forget all this is happening. He wants to hide in Robin’s bed and wait until it’s all over, but he can’t.
Chrissy is scared, Dustin and Max too, though they hide it well, Eddie is a target and Robin is freaking out. Steve can’t hide away. He needs to be strong and exude confidence and keep everyone upright, keep it all moving. Needs to protect them. Like Hopper would.
“You’re gonna be fine, Chris,” he tells her, maybe a beat too late to be fully believable. “We’re all going to be fine.”
“Yeah, we’re always fine, don’t worry,” Dustin agrees and he does have the confidence about this that is believable.
He hasn’t been face to face with a demogorgon with only a bat, hasn’t been the target of a horde of demodogs while responsible for three other people, he has never been tortured by Russians or chased by the Mind Flayer. He hasn’t held El and Joyce at Hopper’s funeral. He hasn’t held Max at Billy’s.
Steve doesn’t begrudge Dustin in his naivety. He is glad that Dustin still has that confidence, that he hasn’t had to go through all of that, but he is scared that it will come crashing down at some point and Dustin will be in the middle of it.
However, for now, they can all use his confidence and unwavering belief that it will all turn out okay.
“We need a game plan right now,” Steve says, taking control, because that is what Hopper would have done and this is exactly the situation where Hopper would have stepped in.
“I can use my Cerebro to know what the police are saying. If we know what they know, then we can figure out if they even suspect Eddie,” Dustin says.
“Okay, then we’ll drive there,” Steve says. He isn’t the big plans guy, but he is practical. “Eddie, you need to hide. We’ll come by tomorrow with food, okay?”
He would offer Eddie a place, but he doesn’t want to spring that on him. There will be questions from Dustin if he does and the last thing he wants is to rehash their fight with an audience. Sure, he has told Chrissy and Robin, but he doesn’t want it all thrown in their face with them there. So, he just makes sure that Eddie knows he cares, that he can do something to take care of him.
“Yeah, sure, alright, man,” Eddie nods, taking a deep breath.
“It’s going to be fine, dude,” Dustin grins at him, clapping him on the back. It’s so out of line with the severity that it gets a smile out of Eddie as he hugs Dustin to his side with a fond smile.
“Course, Henderson,” Eddie says. “I got a bard at my back,” which makes Dustin grin again, before he is bouncing out the door, anxious to get started on clearing Eddie’s name.
Max follows after him with a goodbye and Chrissy also goes to follow, but her and Robin look back at Steve and Eddie.
Steve knows that they will give him a second to talk, distract the two kids, so he can talk with Eddie about where they stand. Because they haven’t made up. They haven’t talked. There was a camaraderie again, but Eddie is also dependent on Steve believing he’s innocent.
And Steve is still too scared that Eddie will throw it all in his face again, get mad. He can’t handle that on top of all the stress about other things. So, he just gives Eddie a soft smile and says: “Look out, okay? See you tomorrow, yeah.”
“Yeah, till tomorrow,” Eddie replies, awkwardly. Steve walks away with an uncomfortable nod and is almost at the door, before Eddie calls out: “Stevie?”
The nickname makes Steve’s heart twist and he turns back with a: “Yes?”
“Thank you for not thinking I’m guilty,” Eddie softly says, looking a little bashful at the confession.
“Of course,” Steve smiles, hoping Eddie will understand. “Sorry that I made you feel like I wouldn’t. It’s really good to see you again. I’m so sorry about what I said back in December. I- I wasn’t in a good space. I didn’t mean it.”
Eddie looks shocked at the confession and Steve wants to hear what he has to say, but at that point Dustin screeches: “We don’t have all day, Steve!”
“Coming,” he calls back, tearing himself away from Eddie without getting a response. Leaving him to wonder if this will be a turning point for them again, if he can make it right or if Eddie will leave him behind when they’ve gotten past all this.
He sees Robin talk to Chrissy, small frown on her face as Chrissy hunches into herself. Mentally he amends, if they get past this.
Hello fellow Stranger Things fans! This is the index post of my blog, strangertheories, where I make content about Stranger Things! I've been obsessed with Stranger Things for years so I've decided to spare everyone in my life from having to hear me ranting about it and create this blog to share my thoughts. You can also find me on TikTok as forever_ronance and on Letterboxd as crimsonxclover.
I post about Byler, Ronance and most of all, theories (kind of in the name). I try to only post about ST but if I want to post about something else, I'll tag it #not ST related. I regularly answer anons if you are interested in sending me an ask as well!
If my account appeals to you, I would appreciate if you check out my posts. If you're looking for a specific post, I've got you covered- just look at the list above or see what I've posted under the tags I've tagged this post with. My personal favourite section is the ST5 theories as they're my most thought out and analytical posts but hopefully there's something up here that you enjoy. I don't include all of my posts as this index is only my important posts so if you sent me an ask and it's not on the index, that's why. Enjoy reading and thanks for checking out my account!
20 Questions for fic Writers!
tagged by @rosieposiepuddingnpie, thank you friend :)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
139
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
551,651
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Actively, Buddie (and I'm still holding on to Steddie with both hands but my brain hasn't cooperated lately). Inactively (hopefully I'll return one day) - Sterek/Teen Wolf, DexNursey, SamBucky, JayTim, Pynch
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Queer Robins Club - Batman, 4.9k kudos Dustin's Dad(s) - Steddie, 3.5k kudos On the Ropes - Sterek, 2.3k kudos Like James Dean, Only Sadder - Sterek, 2.1k kudos I'm Yelling Tinder - DexNursey, 1.5k kudos
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to! There was a couple years where I wasn't really writing for fic or reading it and I kind of just ignored Ao3 and came back to like 500 comments that I didn't respond to, but I read all of them and loved them. I respond to all of them now though and did before I went inactive.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't typucally write angsty endings. I typically write fic because I want a happy ending. I did write a very angsty, very short first person fic from Stiles POV at the end of Teen Wolf? I guess that would be it. With a Wimper is also my least read fic in terms of hits lol.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
ALL OF THEM! I write happy endings baby! If I had to pick just one I'd probably say my favourite Steddie fic I wrote - Baby on Board just because it's a prequel to a very happy fic and the end of BoB is also happy and hopeful.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not recently. Back in the days of a very active Sterek fandom I had some, usually from people who didn't ship Sterek. It was always wild to me because that meant you intentionally commented on a fic for a ship you didn't ship just to be mean?
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do, but not as often as I used to. Typically my smut ends up also being sappy, but sometimes I dabble in bandage or light D/s stuff.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
One time I wrote Stiles Stilinski/Jason Todd and it was very fun for me and hopefully for the like 500 people who read it. - if you're interested it's Back Alley Deals lol
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
yeah, but it got taken down after
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! I've had some wonderful folks translate some of my fics to Russian, Mandarin, and Ukrainian and I think a few other languages I'm not rememebring
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, I did the jaytim WIP exchange which I think counts as co-writing. We just wrote in shifts lol
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Probably Sterek simply because I can always go back to it like a warm little blanket and because I was so in it for so many years.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
probably my Buddie double timeloop fic :( maybe one day i'll finish it
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think dialogue and being able to capture a character's voice
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Conflict probably - I just want everyone to get along so I really struggle to write it, but I do write it and that's what counts
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I struggle with it because I'm only English speaking. I think if I get better at French or Spanish I'd be more comfortable with it, but for now I don't like relying on Google translate.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I think the first fic I ever posted was harry potter, posted on some random HP message board in the very early 2000s
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
oh this is hard!!! I'm gonna cheat and give you favs from 6 ships I've written lol Like James Dean, only Sadder (Sterek) wet your lips (and smile for the camera) (Buddie) It's Always You (SamBucky) Baby on Board (Steddie) Baby give me S'more (Jaytim) Hey Now You're a (NHL) All-Star (DexNursey)
tagging (no pressure) - @thewolvesof1998 @loserdiaz @monsterrae1 @eddiebabygirldiaz @daffi-990 @spotsandsocks @devirnis @acountrygirlsfun @forthewolves @generatorcat @anxieteandbiscuits @inell @clotpolesonly @weewootruck and anyone else who wants to share
Why Steddie shippers are VALID
So my sister made a whole ass analysis on why Steddie shippers are not insane for seeing what we saw and I'm just gonna copy paste it below:
Gonna go on a little ramble here but the thing is people weren't pulling shit out of nowhere when they shipped steddie it's not just them looking at two characters and being like oh they'd have a fun dynamic IF we put them in situations because the story itself put them in those situations. If you sit and think about it they would've been the natural direction for the story to have taken. It's not even just the actors' chemistry, the characters themselves were set up in ways that just pushed them together throughout the season. Romantically.
If you look at what we got the season starts off with Steve being jealous of Eddie, refusing to hang out with him and wanting Dustin to stop pestering him. Then it's him not knowing what he wants in terms of romance. His flirting gets sidetracked because in Dustin's words "maybe he should spend less time looking at girls and looking for Eddie" which he then does because the plot itself pushes them together.
When they find Eddie it's Steve that gets shoved up against a wall, making him the first character outside of the kids from the party that Eddie even directly interacts with. And then when he goes missing it's Steve that leads them to skull rock and once more he's the first one Eddie even says anything to when he's found. And even then they share quips about Dustin despite it being something they were stated to be jealous about. Does Steve know shit about mordor? Does he even understand half the shit the man talks about there? nope. but is he the one that states that hey maybe we should be prioritising Eddie's safety instead of jumping headfirst into killing vecna? yup. He hangs back so Eddie can get his shit, which at this point the importance of an alcohol container isn't even much but it's still Eddie's stuff so he does hang back, he waits.
(small note that the other time we saw someone hanging in the background was with lumax, when Max needed to tie her shoelaces and maybe that's not intentional because maybe Sadie just needed to tie her shoelaces but still)
And then when Steve volunteers to jump to find that gate it's Eddie that gets a torch, wraps it up in plastic and hands it over with a goodluck and keeps Steve's sweater with him. And when it seems like Steve's having a moment with his ex it's Eddie that interrupts them with a scoff to give him his battle vest when he could've handed him his leather jacket, when he didn't even need to hand him anything bc Robin was right there and could've handed him her jacket.
The fact that Steve takes it and then hangs back again but this time specifically to be say  thank you for jumping in to help, Eddie deflects it all the way anyone with a crush who wants to not be clocked as having one would do bc "omg it's obvious I was jealous it's obvious Nancy and Steve should be together again" His dialogue here very much is the most I'm outside this circle I shouldn't be butting into this circle but even then the show shows us Steve with chunks of his stomach gone still there trying to comfort and thank and reassure Eddie. Eddie even goes on to make him laugh!! and makes him get flustered!! and they have a heart to heart about Dustin, about being presumptuous of eo and how hey we're cool now and it cements how Eddie really is with the party now.
(Yet another side note but his jealousy could really directly parallel Robins coming out scene so well its almost ridiculous. "Hey Steve I wasn't obsessed with you I was jealous vs Hey Steve I wasn't actually jealous I was obsessed" )
And then they show little moments of them celebrating together when they succeed in contacting Dustin, they show them whining to eo about the tiny boy they've self appointed to take care of. And even when they're out of the upside down for a while they're just constantly near eo in every frame? it's one of those oh even if they're not the focus rn they just gravitate towards eo things.
They have Eddie hot wire a trailer but even then they have Steve hovering over him getting trusted with the knowledge of Eddie's shitty father and not only is it a glimpse of Eddie's life but it's also a glimpse of just how shit this situation is for the boy and the scene ends with Steve being flirted with!!! and made to drive the vehicle eddie got them.
And I know this is Steve telling Nancy this but his dream? his dream is having a family and someone to be with him and coparent with him and the entire season we've been shown how good Eddie is with the kids, how Eddie is known for taking in kids that don't fit and need protection and giving them a place to be themselves. The fact that Steve specifically talking about having a gigantic vehicle to troop into when seconds before Eddie got him that vehicle.
(Honestly just a side note but this would be the most wholesome development too because Steve comes from a neglectful "perfect" family and he thought he'd want that too but with love and instead he gets this insane and messy found family, with people who love and adore him and its a great way to subvert the trope and a great arc for a character who began his story being the rich douchebag jock.)
Even after that when Steve sits with Robin and talks about romance and how he gets that it's not the most important priority and he has hope still and it really could've just focused on Nancy if that's all they wanted but it also shows Dustin and Eddie playing around and goofing off.
(Small side note again is how even when Nancy is sitting there talking to max she's still making weapons she's thinking about defeating vecna but Eddie even when he does makes weapons, and his weapon matches Steve's for fucks sake, he makes it a game he's playing with the kids and unwinding them).
And when they start their plan it's still Steve that hangs back and specifically tells Eddie he doesn't have to be a hero and they should stay safe, the both of them. And even when he turns to leave Eddie still calls him back the way romantic pairings do for goodluck except here they're not a thing yet and he just says give them hell.
All this to say is that my point is that even if you  take away how Joe Quinn played Eddie (and that's not to say he didn't do a phenomal fucking job), take away how he was all up in Steve's face and how they looked at eo like that, it's still the way a romantic pair gets set up, it's still the narrative pushing them together. It is not wrong of queer people to have seen a story centering a freak being hunted, see him accepted, see him in situations where if he was a girl this would've definitely lead to romance and then being upset when it didn't happen.
I thought I'd already said everything I had wanted to about this season but then I realised that queer people seeing steddie and shipping them together have been downplaying Steve and Eddie's interactions because of how we're constantly never thought of possibly being represented and we're constantly being told its just us seeing it and how one frame with two ppl of the same gender makes us crazy shippers when in reality the narrative really well and truly did set it up.
I'm tired of seeing queer people beat themselves up and disclaimer themselves because heterosexuals would shrug off any kind of romance between anyone that isn't a man and a woman because it wasn't explicitly spelled out for them, or shown in their standards of how a Queer relationship would've been. It is gay, it was gay and it will be gay regardless of the homophobic writers, regardless of what heterosexuals think and we aren't wrong for seeing it and wanting it.
Hello! I absolutely love your work and always look forward to when you post, especially your steddy hands x reader fic. I was wondering if you would maybe consider an angst/comfort steddy hands x reader oneshot where perhaps the reader gets kidnapped/needs to be cared for after the ordeal? it would also be neat if the reader was trans-masc simply cause I havent seen a lot of trans-masc representation for ofmd fics yet. I would literally appreciate it so much if you could write this, but even if you cant or are too busy, i look forward to your future works :)
Ended up rewriting this, I hope it turned out okay!
Steddyhands taking care of their Injured S/O:
The enemy ship was filled with the sound of metal clashing against metal, the shouts of their crew and yours alike. The ache from being held captive for days had seeped deep into your bones, making it difficult to even hold your head up, never mind separate the voices to get an idea of how the fight was going. All you knew was that your crew had come for you just like you knew they would.
The door to the brig, allowing more light to spill into the dim room. You forced your head up to see who had come for you, whether it was friend or foe. Everything in your body relaxed when you saw the three familiar faces, the ones you knew would find you, would take you home.
Stede was the one to carry you back to the Revenge and to the captain’s cabin, the cabin that the four of you had shared for a little while now. Edward, of course, had been eager to be the one to scoop you up and haul you back home but Stede and Izzy had talked him out of it because of his knee. His leg would be bad enough after the raid, he needn’t put more stress on it. Plus, he knew if you had been more present, you would have scolded him for the same thing.
Instead, Edward had agreed to let Stede take you back while he and Izzy made sure that the crew properly torched the ship that had dared to hold you captive, to threaten to take you away from them. Stede had handed them a box of matches, just in case, before whisking you away to safety.
Stede uttered reassurances into your hair as he carried you to the familiar cabin, those quiet reassurances continuing as he placed you down on the settee. He noticed the way you winced.
“They weren’t kind to you, were they, my dear?” his frown deepened as he finally got the chance to take in all the injuries you had received and the build-up of grime.
“Need a few lessons on hospitality from the Gentleman Pirate,” your voice was hoarse, every other word interrupted with a rough cough. You sounded beyond tired, exhausted, but at least you were joking. Surely, that must have been a good sign.
Stede quickly returned to fretting, figuring it must hurt your throat to simply speak. He was just pouring you a drink when Edward barged into the room, lowly informing his co-captain that Izzy was handling the rest of the ship’s fate and would be by shortly.
In an instant, Edward was sitting by your side and had slipped an arm around you. You leant into his embrace without hesitation, melting against his side, thankful to not have to hold yourself up anymore.
A glass of water was pressed into Edward’s hand as Stede knelt down in front of you. As Stede worked on removing your boots, Edward gently lifted the glass to your lips.
“Slow sips, darling,” Stede advised, placing one boot to the side.
You barely nodded, lifting your chin enough to drink from the glass. You leisurely sipped from the water as Edward tilted the cup.
Now, watching you sip from the glass, Edward was beginning to become more aware of your injuries just as Stede had. He couldn’t help but feel that dark cloud settling in his chest once again.
When your boots were set to the side and the glass was empty, Stede sighed and sat back on his heels. “Oh, love,” he reached up and caressed your dirty hair, pushing it out of your face. You instinctively leant into his touch. “Could I prepare you bath?” he asked. He figured you might want to scrub off all that grime, he definitely would, but he would understand if you would rather just rest for now and clean up later.
You nodded, relieved at the thought of being able to wash up. You felt disgusting and grimy. In the brig on the other ship you had been more focused on the aches, you hadn’t even thought about the dirt. But now, sat back in the pristine cabin where you belonged, you couldn’t be more aware of how the filth clung to your skin.
Stede gave you a smile, a little unconvincing but sincere nonetheless, as he stood. He tenderly kissed your forehead before disappearing into the bathroom.
Edward didn’t waste a second with Stede gone, setting to work on fussing over you instantly. “Weren’t going to let those fuckers get away with it,” he promised lowly, though you already knew that. Still, you smiled tiredly at him as he attempted to detangle some of your hair without tugging on the knots.
“Should’ve saw them when they realised Blackbeard was coming for me,” you mused, nuzzling your face into his shoulder, comforted by the familiar scent of lavender, “I think one of them pissed their pants.”
Thankfully, Edward laughed at that. Finding the same relief that Stede had at your ability for light-heartedness.
Still, he asked, “do you need another drink?” Your voice was less hoarse than before but still sounded scratchy.
You nodded, murmuring a quiet ‘please’ before Edward carefully moved you away from him, letting you lean back against the settee cushions again.
The door opened and closed again, Izzy marching in. Edward, pouring a glass of water, looked at him expectantly. “It’s all under control, we’ll be raising anchor soon. Told the crew to do it without us,” he informed his captain.
“Good,” Edward nodded, glad to hear that the other crew were getting what they deserved.
It took a moment before Izzy could bring himself to look at you but once he did, his face fell. “You’re hurt,” he observed bluntly, painfully, as he approached you.
“Yeah…” your whole body ached and stung, you weren’t going to lie to him, you couldn’t hide it. “But I’ll be fine, just happy to be back,” you assured him with a weak smile as he sat beside you, pulling you into his arms.
Edward sat on the other side of you, holding your head steady as he brought the glass to your lips. You could manage on your own but letting them fuss over you wasn’t so bad.
Stede returned from the bathroom just as you finished your second drink, pleased to see that Izzy had retuned. Both Edward and Izzy helped you stand from the settee. Once you were on your feet, Stede wrapped an arm around your waist and led you into the bathroom.
Together, the three of them worked on getting you out of your ruined clothes, which only consisted of your shirt and trousers. Stede and Edward then took each of your hands and helped you step into the tub.
You groaned as you sank down into the warm water, it already doing wonders for your sore muscles even if it was causing your cuts to sting a little. The more prominent scents of lavender invaded your senses, replacing the smell of smoke and damp wood you had become used too on the other ship.
Edward and Stede took their seats on stools on either side of the tub, on either side of you, refusing to let you wash yourself. Not that you really minded. It was nice to be doted on, especially after the last few days you had. You let your eyes flutter shut as they dragged clothes over your body, wiping away the layer of sweat and filth on your skin.
Izzy stood, a little ominously, in the room. Very clearly sulking about something if the looks on his face gave anything away. No, not sulking, beating himself up.
“Should’ve been there, this shouldn’t have happened,” Izzy finally spoke up. As you expected, as was Izzy’s nature, he was blaming himself for this. Your eyed blinked open again, frowning when you saw his guilty expression.
“Israel, dear, this isn’t your fault. Nobody could have known this was going to happen,” Stede looked at him with a frown, wondering how he could blame himself. Of course, all three of them wished they had been there to prevent your kidnapping, wondered what they could have done differently to prevent it, but they simply couldn’t have foreseen it.
“Yeah, Iz, mate, you can’t blame yourself,” Edward agreed, as if he hadn’t blamed himself as well. He had blamed himself as soon as they heard you had been taken and had to be reassured by Stede.
“Izzy…” you sighed. “This is nobody’s fault, definitely not yours. I knew the three of you would come for me. You can’t blame yourself for this, none of you can, I certainly don’t,” you reassured him. Of course, this had only made Izzy feel worse. You were hurt and he was too caught up blaming himself to make himself of use, and now you were comforting him.
Seeming to notice those thoughts running through Izzy’s mind, Stede spoke up. “Israel, come here and give us a hand, won’t you?” he encouraged, giving Izzy that pushed he needed.
Without a word, and definitely no complaint, Izzy crossed the room. He pulled a stool up behind the head of the bathtub and sat down, rolling up his sleeves to his elbows before resting his arms against the lip of the tub.
“Lean back, darling,” Stede ordered softly.
You did as he said, laying back and resting your head against Izzy’s arms. He smiled back when you smiled up at him, tired but reassuring.
Stede and Edward continued to clean you up as they inspected your wounds, searching for causes of concern. Every now and again, Stede would look to Edward for some guidance on whether your wounds would need further tending too, if they should call for Roach. But each time, Edward seemed confident that everything would heal just fine without stitches.
Ignoring the back and forth whispered of the captains about your condition, you focused up on Izzy. “Is the crew alright?” you asked, knowing that he had been the last to speak with the crew.
“Don’t worry about them,” Izzy muttered, wondering how you could worry about the crew after they came to rescue you. Seeing the genuine concern in your eyes, Izzy have in. “The crew is fine, love,” he sighed, gently repositioning your head as he removed one arm from under you, “just worry about feeling better.” He tried his best to make it sound like a request, a suggestion, but it sounded more like a demand. Though, it was softened by the way he ran his fingers through your hair with his now free hand.
Deciding not to argue with him, and seeing that there was no need too if everyone was alright, you just hummed in agreement and let your eyes close again.
“Not gonna let anyone get their hands on you again,” Edward’s voice brought you back to the two captains, and you knew he meant it. The three of them were bound to be overly protective around anyone who wasn’t a member of the crew from now on, at least for a while.
“Yes, of course we won’t, but let’s just focus on fixing you up for now,” Stede suggested softly, not wanting you to already worry about possible future dangers.
Once you were cleaned up to their standards, completely scrubbed clean, the three men helped you out of the tub. Your legs felt even more wobbly now that the muscles had been allowed to relax, maybe this time you needed the assistance more than you did before.
Still, you were able to stand by yourself as Stede wrapped a fluffy towel around you before asking, “Ed, love, be a dear and grab the salve?”
Edward gave a short nod and hurried over to the cabinet to search for the familiar jar while Stede guided you back through into the cabin, Izzy trailing behind as you were sat back down on the couch.
Ed wasn’t far behind, soon catching up with a jar of salve in his hand.
The four of your say in silence, each of your partners tenderly applying the salve to your bruises and cuts. Aiming to get the task done as quickly but as thoroughly as possible. Occasionally Izzy would mutter something to himself as he inspected the various injuries, an all too familiar scowl on his face as he did so.
Despite the aches, the occasional sting from your cuts, and the fretting of your partners, you felt your eyes growing heavy. Finally able to relax, feeling safe between the three men. It was becoming to keep your head up now.
“Oh, my love, you must he exhausted,” Stede frowned, noticing your desire for sleep as they finally finishing applying the salve.
You nodded sleepily before murmuring, “didn’t really feel like sleeping on that ship.” It sounded like you might have been attempting some sort of joke, but it didn’t really land.
“C’mon, mate. I could be talked into a midday nap,” Edward encouraged with a half-smile.
“I’ll get you a change of clothes,” Stede offered, standing before hurrying off into his closet before you could even say anything.
Unsurprisingly, he returned moments later with a nightshirt of his. Having been deemed as incapable of doing anything for yourself this afternoon, Stede helped you into the oversized shirt.
“Now, are you sure there is nothing else you need. More water, food, did we miss any injuries?” Stede fretted, making you smile a little.
“Just really want some sleep,” you assured him.
“Very well,” Stede nodded, his shoulders relaxing a little. “Now, you two make sure they get some well needed rest. I’ll go and tell the crew that they are doing fine and make sure everything is running smoothly,” he ordered, softly of course, before kissing each of you on the forehead and leaving the cabin.
Without hesitation, Edward was on his feet and taking hold of your hand. “You look very nice in Stede’s nightshirt. Very dashing,” he lightly teased as he guided you over to the bed.
“I’ll give it to him, it’s comfortable,” you hummed. He had picked well, and you wondered if he had done it on purpose. The nightshirt hung loose and light on you, not irritating your wounds like another material might.
“It’s a very pretty dress,” Izzy agreed. Clearly, the two of them were trying to keep an air of lightness, hoping to put you at ease, despite their racing minds.
Both men frowned, concerns racing back to the forefront of their minds, when you winced as you climbed into the bed after Edward.
“Shut up and come cuddle with us,” you complained, and Izzy didn’t argue, joining you on the bed after kicking his boots off.
With that safe and secure feeling returning to you, you curled up between the two men. The feeling of their bodies on either side of you having a grounding effect.
“You had us really worried,” Edward confessed in the quiet of the room as he tightened his hold on you. Feeling safe to voice those feelings now that you were back where you belonged, now that he knew you would be okay. “Stede was worried sick, never seen him so antsy. Thought Iz was gonna kill the crew with how hard he was pushing them.”
It might not have been suitable, but it made you smile, the thought of your men setting their sights on bringing you home. You couldn’t imagine how you would have reacted if it were one of them that had been taken.
“Right, ‘cause you were the picture of calm,” Izzy muttered. You couldn’t see his face, since it was nuzzled into the back of your neck, but you were sure he was rolling his eyes.
“Yeah…think I freaked the Swede out,” Edward confessed, making you chuckle a little into his chest.
“They’ll forgive you all,” you promised, voice becoming thick with sleep.
“Don’t care,” Izzy’s voice was quieter now, almost as if he were sharing a secret, “as long as you’re alright.”
Over your frame, unseen by you, Edward gave Izzy a look of understanding and have his hand a firm but tender squeeze.
By the time Stede returned to the cabin, you and Edward were sleeping soundly. Izzy, awake, still lay beside you. Dutiful in following your request that he cuddle with you, absentmindedly playing with your hair.
“They’re sleeping?” Stede asked quietly, though the answer was obvious. The question came more from a lack of knowing what else to say.
“Passed out pretty much as soon as they lay down,” Izzy informed the captain as he approached, pulling himself away from you and sitting up.
“Can’t imagine how exhausted they must be,” Stede sighed, placing a tray down on the bedside table, “I brought some more water and some bread in case they are hungry when they wake up. Once they feel up to it, I’ll have Roach make something for them.”
Izzy wasn’t completely sure why he was being told this, but he nodded anyway. You would need to eat something soon; he doubted the other crew had kept you well fed.
Stede sat on the edge of the bed, overlooking your cuddled up forms, refusing to disturb you. You needed your rest.
"Israel, tell me, are their injuries nothing to worry about? You and Ed are much more experienced in that area than me and Ed had assured me but...well, sometimes I worry he sugar-coats things for me. I know you'll be honest," Stede asked, a longing concern in his eyes as he gazed down on you.
Izzy sighed to himself as he lent back against the headboard. "They'll be fine, Stede. Nothing's broken or anything. The bruises will fade. Some of the wounds might scar but most should heal pretty much completely. Don't worry, yeah?" he assured the man, even trying to muster up a convincing smile. He doubted it was successful.
"Yes, and I am sure you're not fretting and that's not why I bet you're not going to leave their side until they're back in fighting shape," Stede mused, clearly having come to understand Izzy's devotion rather intimately.
“Can you two shut up? We’re trying to sleep here,” Edward grumbled, nuzzling his face into the crook of your neck as you buried yourself further into his chest, the two of you fully wrapped around each other.
“Sorry, love,” Stede whispered, reaching over to tuck some unruly hair behind Edward’s ear.
“Just get in bed, Stede,” your plea was muffled by Edward’s chest, but they could make out your words just fine.
“You should really eat-” Stede began to protest now that you were awake.
“Please, love? I just want to get some sleep, with the three of you,” you managed to pull your head up from your cosy embrace, giving Stede the best pleading look you could muster.
Stede didn’t need anymore encouragement, the three of you shuffling up enough for him to climb into the bed as well. The four of you natural fell together, limbs tangled, each man with at least a hand on your just to make sure that you were still there. That you wouldn’t be gone once again when they woke up.
20 Questions For Fic Writers
Thank you for the tag, lovely! @morningberriesao3
1) How many works do you have on AO3? - Unsure of the exact number, but 20+?
2) What’s your total AO3 word count? - Unsure, but I know 100,000 +?
3) What fandoms do you write for? - American Horror Story, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, Shameless, Stranger Things, Buffy & Angel.
4) What are your top five fics by kudos? - Ah, shit. Now I have to go find them, 😂
She’s Trouble
Untitled Steve fic
Ripe
And then the rest have just been drabbles, other stuff, etc.
5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? - I try to! If I don’t get them all it’s because I get overwhelmed!
6) What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? - Would have to be a tie between these three:
Get Going, Or Get Lost, I Won’t Stand By, Walk Until You Belong
7) What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? - The ones that aren’t angsty 😂 I think this one.
8) Do you get hate on fics? - Oh yeah, lmao.
9) Do you write smut? If so, what kinds? - All kinds. Rough, soft, funny, angsty, fluffy, hate, comfort, slow, fast, hard, etc.
10) Do you wrote crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written? - Not really. I had a Michael Langdon and Jack Kline crossover planned with a reader, but I never got to it. :/
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? - Multiple times, lol.
12) Have you ever had a fic translated? - Once.
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? - Yes!
14) What’s your all time favorite ship? - Gallavich and Steddie.
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? - My Gator x ex-best-friend!reader fic. All of them, really… haha.
16) What are your writing strengths? - I think I’m good at smut and describing things.
17) What are your writing weaknesses? - I struggle with grammar (I love commas, lol) and dialogue.
18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? - Go for it!
19) First fandom you wrote for? - Buffy. But online? American Horror Story.
20) Favorite fic you’ve written? - That would be all three of my top five most kudos fics! Well… the three of them! See above! I’m also in love with some of the WIP’s I’ve worked on.
