Steve refusing to play DnD with the party because of dyscalculia. Dustin and Eddie have invited him countless times to join them in their campaigns, but Steve always gives some shitty excuse like he has to cover for Robin at the video store or something.

Dustin and Eddie think it's because he's still worried about mantaining the "King Steve image" but in reality Steve's just terrified of being laughed at by supergenious children, because Eddie told him DnD had a lot of math and he sucks at that.

Dustin, who has just learned Steve that is with both Eddie and Billy, who splits his non-Hellfire afternoons between the arcade and the video store while he waits for his mom to get home and therefore ends up hanging with the three of them on the slow nights that Eddie and Billy spend milling about and smoking their cigarettes and bothering Steve, watching them tease Steve one afternoon, watching Steve still flush around both of them even though they’ve all been dating for a good five months, out of the blue asks Steve, “If both Eddie and Billy were drowning and you could only save one, which one would you save?”

All three of them look at him like he’s sprouted new heads, but then Billy gets this sly look on his face, wraps his arms around Steve and hooks his chin over Steve’s shoulder, asks him, “Yeah, Stevie. Who would you save?”

“That’s a dumb question,” says Max, who has been bored, roaming the aisles and maybe messing with a few tapes for shits and giggles. “Billy can swim.”

“Wait,” Eddie frowns, looking between Max and Dustin. “You think I can’t swim?”

“Well…” says Robin, who has been scanning in returned inventory behind the counter, sharing a bag of Skittles with Billy as they always did on nights like this, both of them fighting over the red ones.

“Oh, come on!” says Eddie.

“It’s okay, baby. Steve’ll save you,” says Billy.

“They’ve got a point,” Steve says. “Billy’s a lifeguard and all. He’s probably the best swimmer out of all of us. So, Eddie.”

Billy squeezes Steve a little harder, murmurs, “If I do drown, and you let me, I’m haunting your ass.”

“You wouldn’t drown,” Steve insists.

“Anyone can drown,” says Dustin, exasperated. “Fine! Fine. You’re in a burning building and you can only save one. Do you save Eddie, or Billy?”

“Why can’t we save ourselves?” asks Billy.

“I don’t know!” says Dustin. “You passed out from smoke inhalation.”

“Eddie,” Max says. “He’s easier to lift if he’s unconscious.” She looks at Billy, tells him, “No offense, but you’re heavy as shit.”

Billy smirks, makes a show of flexing his muscles, says, “None taken.”

“I was asking Steve,” Dustin says.

“I’d save Eddie, too,” Robin pipes up. “Sorry, Billy. But with you gone, I don’t have to share my candy.” She brandishes a red Skittle, pops it into her mouth before Billy can steal it. He scowls, opens his palm, and she empties the remains of the bag into his hand.

“Again,” Dustin sighs. “I was asking Steve.”

“I’m saving them both,” Steve says. Robin quirks an eyebrow. “What? I could lift them both if I had to. Adrenaline and stuff, right? People get, like, superhuman strength from it.”

“That’s not the question,” Dustin says. “You have to choose one.”

“Fine,” Steve sighs, hands falling over Billy’s, which are still held fast around his waist. “Billy.”

“You’re just saying that because everyone else picked Eddie,” Billy teases.

“Yes, I am,” Steve confirms. “Someone has to look out for your annoying ass.”

“And my ass thanks you for your service,” says Billy, playfully nipping at Steve’s ear.

“Oh, my God,” Dustin groans. “Get a room.”

Eddie laughs, gestures to Steve and Billy and says, “Gentlemen. You heard the man.”

“Break room’s free,” Robin offers, though Eddie is already leading the way, Billy backing up to following him, tugging Steve along.

“Keep it PG in there!” Max calls after them.

“PG-13 is the best we can offer,” chimes Eddie.

Again, Dustin groans, “Oh my God.”

Headcanon for when billy is finally free from the upside down:

After spending so much time there, unable to rest or sleep, he basically has lost all rhythm in his body. Steve and Eddie get worried bc the man has been awake for days on end.

What they discover is that billy can only fall asleep if he feels incredibly safe. All the doors locked and Steve’s bat next to the bed. Billy is sandwiched between his boyfriends.

Steve is against the wall, playing with Billy’s hair and Eddie is messing with the strings of his guitar. Billy closes his eyes and for the first time in days, he feels safe enough to sleep

As Billy gazes upon the massive white mansion, he instantly feels severely underdressed. He’s in his date night outfit, which is arguably the nicest clothes he owns, but still. They still scream secondhand. Just like Billy himself. Unworthy of such royalty… 

He shakes his hands out a few times to try and stop the trembling before knocking on the door. 

‘Coming!’ he hears from inside the house, and then a few moments later Steve is opening the door, a huge dopey grin on his face. 

“Hey! You came,” Steve says, moving to let Billy in. 

“Not yet he hasn’t,” Eddie mumbles, appearing suddenly to Steve’s left. The metalhead isn’t surprised when he gets a shove from Billy and then the blonde locks him in a headlock.  

“I’m sorry! I yield, uncle! uncle!” Eddie yell/giggles because he knows it's all a show. Billy would never actually hurt him. He’s stopped taking his anger out on people last October. And intends to keep it that way. He confided in Eddie about it. 

Billy lets Eddie go and be fooled by a false sense of confidence. When he walked in front of him, Billy slaps Eddie’s ass hard. When it gets the appropriate pained yelp, Billy smirks.  

“Well,” Steve laughs, one part uncomfortable, two parts aroused, “I was gonna ask if you cared Eddie’s here but-” 

“It’s fine,” Billy shrugs, following the smell of food into the kitchen. Maybe the presence of a third wheel will make it feel less tense.

“I brought weed,” Eddie smiles and Billy knows it’s going to be a good night.

Steve/Billy/Eddie au where Billy survives the Mind Flayer attack but when he gets out of the hospital the only people he’s willing to rely on to take care of him are Steve and Max because, I mean, Max is his sister so of course she’s gonna be ultra protective, and Billy has a history with Steve and Steve was there that night and Eddie is still new and Billy has such a hard time trusting new people.

so on days when he’s really hurting or needs extra help, he gets kind of snippy with Eddie or just generally gravitates toward Steve. and it’s not like Eddie minds. he gets it. but he cares about Billy and he wants to help. and Steve keeps telling him to give Billy time, that Billy will come around eventually, that he just has a tough time being vulnerable and all of this has been rough for him. so Eddie is patient. and he gives Steve and Billy their space.

but!!!!! then Steve has to go out of town, some kind of family trip or something that he can’t get out of, and it’s just Billy and Eddie. and for a whole day Billy doesn’t even talk to Eddie not because he wants to be mean but because he doesn’t know how to let Eddie help. it’s so easy with Steve, but with Eddie he feels like he still has put up a front. but he still needs help, and Eddie wants to take care of him, and Billy eventually lets him. he lets Eddie look after him and it doesn’t feel so bad? it’s actually kind of nice? they find some common ground and settle into a rhythm and Billy actually feels good about it.

and when Steve gets home his first stop is Eddie’s trailer, where he finds Billy asleep on Eddie’s lap and Eddie fucking beaming because omgomg Billy finally trusts him and wow how cute how sweet how nice I’m in love.
