Just coined a new noncanon trigedasleng word to translate "hunt you for sport", and it's steimplei, from the canon word steim, "arena, area for sport or battle".

But since hunting someone for sport is an idiom, I wonder if I maybe should have gone with spo (pr. "spaw") or spot instead?

So this is another Eurorack patch using external devices: here, my homemade cracklebox.

I built this thing quite a while ago; it's a copy of the classic STEIM Krakadoos design. Its oscillator exploits bugs in the design of the ancient μA709 op amp chip to produce squelchy and crackling sounds when you touch the brass buttons on the left hand side. I've been intending to supplement the audio output jack on it, which is directly wired into the discrete amplifier circuit, with an output transformer; I've been told that doing that will make it so that plugging it into something doesn't couple that amplifier to the internals and change the sound.

But I decided tonight that before making any modifications, I should try plugging it into the sync input of my VCO 3340. This audio clip is the result: a solid chip oscillator being intimately tied to a weirdo.

The original zwoopy bounce is the patch as it stands without sync added, and then I turn the Cracklebox on, soft-syncing the VCO first with the ultrasonic base waveform of the Cracklebox, and then going through varying pressure on different patterns of touch knobs. I flip the Cracklebox off in the middle and switch to hard sync before going through the process again.

Sabine Vogel bewegt sie sich im Feld der Improvisation und zeitgenössischen Musik. Als Flötistin beschäftigt sich  intensiv mit modernen Spieltechniken, Klang und Improvisation und arbeitet häufig in Kombination  mit Field Recordings und Aufnahmen, die sie in der Natur macht. Dabei bewegt sie sich an einer  Schnittstelle von audiovisuellen Installations- und Konzertformaten und kreiert häufig auch  ortsbezogene Arbeiten, die sich mit Klang, Ort, Zeit, Moment und Erinnerung auseinandersetzen. 

Sie hatte Solo Konzerte und Auftritte innerhalb Europas, Australiens, Amerikas und spielte auf  Festivals, wie ISEA RUHR, Ultima Festival (NOR), Ultraschall Festival, Jazzfest Berlin, Mona Foma,  NOWnow (AUS), High Zero (US), Internationale Ferienkurse Darmstadt etc 

Sie ist Mitglied des Splitter Orchester in Berlin, ihre momentanen Projekte sind: Recorded Landscapes, Land Stages mit Emilio Gordoa, das Duo wassermannvogel mit der Sängerin und Stimmkünstlerin  Ute Wassermann, das audiovisuelle Duo Ornis mit Kathy Hinde einiges mehr. 

Zusammenarbeit außerdem u.a. mit mit Anthony Braxton, Arto Lindsay, George Lewis,Tony Buck, Andrea Neumann, Biliana Voutchkova, Magda Mayas, Marta Zapparoli, Emilio Gordoa.  Stipendien und Förderungen: u.a. Pip weaves long lasting sonic landscapes. Justly intonated harmonies, airy noises and slow melodies construct an organic music where the listener can both surrender to the music and actively explore the multilayered sonic facets.  The duo has existed since 2006 and since then they have developed a characteristic sound in a music encompassing improvisation and collective composition.  Their 2019 release ‘Possible Worlds’ is a one hour long piece utilizing an extended instrumentarium of justly tuned guitars, trumpet and synthesizers, and it documents their pinnacle work as a duo so far.

Nobody asked for this but here’s some fun facts about the three Alien species in LunuL

-Kelthu have three nostrils, they originally had gills, but that changed over time. Two nostrils work as their gills to filter oxygen underwater, while one is for air on the surface. This was because they were resurfacing more than before as their technology (which is powered by steam and water) advanced.

-they are also hermaphrodites, which is a trait they developed due to a population crisis. Outside of mating, most Kelthu are male, though it’s not uncommon for them to stay female. Their concept of gender outside of biological sex is extremely fluid, though. The closest thing it can be associated with is non binary.

-Montai have hollow bones, this helps transfer oxygen, meaning they can fly for longer (they spend the first 10 years of their life in the air being fluffed up by their parents)

-They’ve never really needed clothes since it makes them overheat easily. The most clothes you’ll see on a Montai is a pair of shorts.

-They hatch from eggs, usually on their home planet, the parents would wrap themselves around it to keep it warm on an iceberg (their home planet was extremely cold)

-their digestive system is also unique in that they usually just eat snow, which contains Frost plankton. They get hydrated from eating snow, and nutrients from the plankton. They usually eat about twice a day, any more than that and they would experience what human refer to as IBS.

-Steims were originally microscopic beings that traveled through electric currents, they kept the trait as they got larger. They lost their physical form thousands of years ago.

-A steim cutting itself off from the network of its kin is seen as a trial of independence. If they do well without it, then they can stay independent, if not, they stick to the network.

-it’s common for multiple steims to inhabit the same body or machine. They usually go by “we” but don’t care if they are referred to with individual names. The most steims a machine can hold is three before it stops functioning.

-A steims genetic code Is very strict and concise, which is what their language and nanotechnology is derived from. To them, all organic beings are made of spaghetti code.

Ceramic Sound Art Instruments

IDEA: Interactive ceramic sound art installations

WHAT: In the 'of Nature and Things' series, sound sculptures invite the viewer to wonder and play, and seduce the viewer to autonomously interact with each work. By approaching and touching it, the objects respond with magnified and designed electronic sounds. In each work a ceramic object is combined with other kinds of material, some materials can be found ready-made, in nature, where others are strongly manipulated by man.

WHY: The sculptures invite to independently, yet carefully, explore the layered possibilities of each work, and creates a private experience and relationship between the objects and the viewer occurs. Sonic, visual and sculptural qualities of all materials used, are being investigated, enriched and magnified. 

BY: Fedde ten Berge is a sound artist who creates work in different contexts and disciplines. In his project 'of Nature and Things’ he develops sound art installations, that investigate the possible manifestations and combinations of different types of material, like ceramics. A substantial part of his research is to express the electrical capacity and vibrating qualities of the material. 

The Trunk Instead of the field proximity capacitive sensing used in the other works, in The Trunk ten Berge used close proximity capacitive sensing. This enables the audience to use the water as a water percussion instrument, inspired by the water percussion performed by Brazillian native tribes.

The Egg With The Egg, ten Berge focused on creating a sculpture in which light and sound design are integrated. This way, no external speakers or lamps are needed to create a total experience. The experience itself is based on the magical experience that you can have on our physical reality. One part of the sound design is based on the crackling of eggshells. The intensity of each egg crackle is coupled to a light flash on the LED strips. For me the tightness of the light sound interaction demonstrates the power of Bela. Another part of the sound design is based on a chord progression and a synthesis technique called phase aligned formant synthesis. Described by in Theory and Techniques of Electronic Music by Miller Puckette. There are mainly 3 nuances in playing the egg. When you move close to the egg the sound design becomes more intense. When you move out of the proximity field the chord changes. When you touch the water the most intense effect is achieved.

The Shroom The Shroom focusses on the vibrations that occur on different levels in the psychical reality of the artwork. Electromagnetic, acoustic, material and structural vibrations are picked up by different sensor strategies, which enables The Shroom to respond to the approach of the audience with carefully designed sound. In this way the visual design of the object comes in close relation with the sound design.

Je me fatigue à sans cesse ressasser les mêmes choses, toujours boucler sur les mêmes sujets. Il faudrait bien que je passe outre et pense à autre chose, mais c'est compliqué quand je suis physiquement bloquée au milieu d'une situation dont je ne peux pas me défaire. A court terme pour sûr, peut-être à moyen terme si un miracle se produit, mais sinon je suis bloquée là pour plusieurs années minimum...

Day 22 — Favorite Reise Reise Song

One of the band's most underrated albums while there are some very good songs.

Mein Teil that we no longer present, what a song ! Hyper disturbing by its theme, but what a banger !

A song I love is Los, the guitar work is awesome and one of the sexiest things that happens when it's played live : Till playing the harmonica.

Keine Lust and Amerika, two of the singles from the album, are also excellent !

The magnificent songs Morgenstern and Amour. The latter has been described by Paul as one of the most difficult to play live.

Ohne Dich, which I already told you about in this challenge, on day 5. This song is so emotional, so beautiful, so sad. It's just amazing whether it's its studio version, or when it's played live. I would love to learn more about the context of this song, who Till wrote it for.

But my favorite song from this album, and one of my favorite songs from all of Rammstein's discography, is Stein Um Steim. I don't have any specific explanations, but this song gives me a pretty incredible energy boost ! I always listen to it fully and I scream the chorus ! Well, it's just pure fun !
