The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) is a lore-rich and choice-driven historical fantasy visual novel inspired by Irish mythology and Celtic folklore. Play as a tenant farmer from mid-19th century Ireland, whose path becomes inexplicably entwined in fairy affairs after getting robbed by the roadside and lured into the mythic and war-torn world of Tír na nÓg: A once unified land, now divided into the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. Will you escape and return home with your stolen belongings? Or does fate have something else in mind?

Facts & Questions: The Game

🍃 The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) is a Kickstarter-funded project currently in development. Due to the scope of the story, we will be releasing it serially over several years to Steam and Itch.io, and discounting it while in early access. The earlier it's bought, the cheaper it will be overall, and you'll only need to buy the game once!

🍂 Not all routes are currently available! As of Nov. 1, 2024, you can play half of Shae and Maeve's routes; both approximately 50k words. If you're not sure about paying for an unfinished game, feel free to check out our free demo first. It consists of Vol. 1, Book of the Traveller (the pre-route content). Differences between the demo's Vol. 1 and the paid game's Vol. 1 are marginal following our August 1, 2024 re-release of the demo.

🍃 The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) has a recommended reading order (Vol. 1, then 2, then 3, etc.), which will correspond to the release order of the routes. For more information on our reasoning behind this, click here.

🍂 Due to its setting, The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) will occasionally feature instances of characters speaking in Gaeilge, i.e. the Irish language. All instances of Gaeilge are linked to an internal translation tool, which is voiced by Nigel McKeon, a Gaeilgeoir.

🍃 The main character is yours to shape. At minimum, you must choose a nickname, pronouns, and one of four default appearances, the last of which can be your own artwork (instructions are included in the game's files). You may also choose to discard the True Name…

🍂 All routes, both current and upcoming, will have both romantic and platonic choice options. If you're uninterested in romance, feel free to make friends instead! No matter the nature of your relationship, you will still be able to reach the good end. (Want to learn more? Refer to this post!)

🍃 Our cast consists of two men, two women, and two non-binary characters. All are romancable no matter the MC, but some characters are asexual or on the aromantic spectrum, which may impact aspects of their romances.

🍂 If you are a Mac user and are having issues launching the game via the Itch direct download, refer to this guide for troubleshooting before sending us an ask. We strongly recommend purchasing the game through Steam instead of Itch if you are a Mac user; it is the best way to avoid issues with launching the game.

🍃 NDM is very intentionally set just prior to the onset of the Great Famine, which is both thematically and textually relevant to the leftist, anti-imperialist story we're aiming to tell. If you would like more insight into this, refer to this post.

🐎 There are secrets to be found in this game, with more yet to come. Prepare yourself for a lot of horse related shenanigans. 🐎

Facts & Questions: The Company

🧵 Moirai Myths is a five-person company based out of Canada. The core devs/founders go by Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. All writing and programming are done by this collective, i.e. the Fates.

🪡 Moirai Myths has a two person in-house artist team consisting of Kazane, our Character/UI Designer, and Melinoe, our Environmental Designer. In addition to them, though, we have had a number of guest artists assist us with the creation of sprites, CGs, and an assortment of other materials. Day 3 of my interactive art project!

Hello! Once again the rules are the same as last time, as in there are none! Everyone is welcome! Anyone that wants to can do whatever they want to the canvas! They can add or change anything they wish! The canvas is now vertical because I was worried people would get bored if I kept giving them basically the exact same blank canvas- someone could change that too and turn it sideways again if they wanted actually lol

All right, I am finally starting this blog

this is an experimental art project. Basically, you send asks, it replaces the data of an image. That's the main part you need to know. Custom formatting will not work, and emojis and stuff might break things. We'll find out I guess.

A few housekeeping things: - it won't be obvious at first the changes that are being made. Even for a small image, there's a couple hundred thousand "letters" worth of data. Send in some copypastas or something - I could automate this with a script, but A), where's the fun in that and B) all computers hate me and will try to self-destruct on sight. So instead I'll be posting whenever I have the time. - this blog is a solo project run by @sushi1056. I will only be able to work on this project on my laptop due to technical constraints. My neighbor’s cat

For the first few weeks at my new place, my neighbor’s cat would show up at my window, trying to peek through the curtain and pawing at the glass

Took him a few days to understand that he was pawing at the wrong window (for his defense my neighbor’s window and mine are very similar..), tried to break into my place every time I went to open the shutters

9/10, very cuddly, a little bit stupid but cute nonetheless

Demo Update: New MC/Daonna Sprites!

Good morning, fateful friends!

We have an exciting update for The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) today! Specifically, the demo now officially boasts three new sprites for MC and Daonna!!! (Read more below 👇)

If you remember from our Kickstarter, one of our stretch goals was the ability to fully customize the appearance of MC and their mysterious doppelganger, Daonna. Sadly, we weren't able to reach this goal at the time - which meant that for the foreseeable future, MC and Daonna would be functionally represented by a single sprite. This was obviously not ideal, since this limits players to a single skin tone, hair colour, eye colour, etc., so after our Kickstarter ended we decided to go back to the drawing board and come up with a middle ground solution that was more realistic/feasible for us. Hence: Daonna now has three distinct designs, which players can use as a basis for their MCs if they want to. (Examples: Maybe your MC styles their hair differently, or never goes without rouge!) Ultimately though, if you still prefer your own headcanon to our sprites, feel free to consider them simply interpretations of MC/Daonna's many possible appearances! Mythology is often full of contradictions, after all ;)

In addition to MC/Daonna, there are a few other new things in this version of the demo (which will update automatically on Steam, but needs to be fully redownloaded from Itch):

Bug fixes (missing audio for Milesian, added entry for Finn, some typos, missing credit names)

A new, fabulous sprite for the lady shopkeeper (with another for the shopkeeper man on the way!)

A new sprite for Maeve's crows

A new animation for Maeve's crows

Minor UI updates

EDIT: There appears to be a bit of confusion surrounding the nature of this update, so I want to clarify: These sprites will only appear in the character creation menu and when Daonna (who already had a sprite prior to now regardless) makes appearances in-game. Otherwise, the gameplay is the same as before. This sprite will not be visible when your MC speaks, so you are still free to imagine your MC in any fashion of your choosing.
