Ladies and gentlemen, i am displeased to announce, my job is officially so short-staffed that some weeks I have to spend 20 out of 40 hours in decontamination. Lol. Lmao even.
Anyways just endured one of the most brutal shifts I’ve ever had the misfortune of being stuck with. (10 hour decon shifts should NOT be allowed) And this was the second day this week I got to do it this week! Yay! That’s not supposed to happen btw! My back is wrecked and I am completely emotionally sapped bc decon was so atrocious.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Allow me to explain! I do Sterile Processing for a job, and decontamination is one of the main job processes you can be assigned to in a day. Imagine you’re a dish washer. But you are standing in a 75 degree room with no windows. It’s humid as hell. You are coated head to toe in plastic and rubber. You are shrimp postured over the sink. You are scrubbing. And scrubbing. But it’s not dishes. It’s surgical tools. There are bodily fluids everywhere. There are carts and carts and carts of stuff for you to clean. The operating room keeps giving you more to do. Third party vendors are bringing you more stuff to clean. They say it’s urgent. They need all 30 in the next 3 hours. It’s not possible. But you must do it. Dear god you’re thirsty.
This is the average decon experience (at least for me) ((i need a new career))
Please please please don’t make me do 2 days in decon again. Please

How Sterile Processing Technicians Contribute to Successful Surgeries
Tumblr media
In the complex and critical world of healthcare, successful surgeries hinge on a multitude of factors, and one often overlooked but crucial aspect is the work of Sterile Processing Technicians (SPTs). These highly skilled professionals play a pivotal role in ensuring that surgical instruments and equipment are meticulously cleaned, sterilized, and prepared for use in the operating room. This article will delve into the various ways in which Sterile Processing Technicians contribute to the success of surgeries.
Contributions of sterile processing technicians in successful surgeries
Instrument sterilization and maintenance
Sterile Processing Technicians are responsible for the thorough cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments. This process is vital to prevent the transmission of infections from one patient to another. SPTs follow stringent protocols to decontaminate instruments, ensuring that they are free from any microorganisms or debris. Proper maintenance of surgical instruments not only guarantees patient safety but also facilitates the seamless functioning of the surgical team during procedures.
Quality assurance
Quality assurance is a cornerstone of the work performed by Sterile Processing Technicians. They conduct rigorous testing and monitoring of sterilization equipment to ensure it is functioning optimally. This includes validating autoclaves, chemical indicators, and biological indicators to guarantee that the instruments are indeed sterile. Regular audits and adherence to industry standards are essential components of the quality assurance process that SPTs undertake.
Inventory management
Sterile Processing Technicians are responsible for managing and maintaining an inventory of surgical instruments and supplies. This involves meticulous record-keeping, tracking expiration dates, and ensuring that instruments are in good condition. An organized and well-managed inventory is crucial for preventing delays in surgeries and ensuring that the surgical team has access to the right tools at the right time.
Collaboration with operating room staff
SPTs work closely with operating room staff, including surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists. They communicate regularly to understand the specific needs of each surgical procedure, ensuring that the required instruments are prepared and available. This collaborative approach is essential for the efficient functioning of the operating room and contributes significantly to the success of surgeries.
Adherence to protocols and standards
Sterile Processing Technicians follow strict protocols and industry standards established by organizations such as the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Adherence to these guidelines is paramount in maintaining a sterile environment and preventing healthcare-associated infections, ultimately contributing to the success of surgeries.
Continuous education and training
The field of sterile processing is dynamic, with advancements in technology and techniques occurring regularly. SPTs engage in continuous education and training to stay abreast of the latest developments in sterilization methods, equipment, and industry best practices. This commitment to ongoing learning ensures that they can adapt to changes and continue to provide high-quality services that contribute to the success of surgical procedures.
Conclusion
Sterile Processing Technicians may work behind the scenes, but their impact on the success of surgeries is undeniable. Their dedication to maintaining the highest standards of instrument preparation is a cornerstone of patient safety and the overall success of surgical interventions. As healthcare continues to evolve, the role of Sterile Processing Technicians remains indispensable in ensuring the well-being of patients and the effectiveness of surgical teams.

i hate how my particular investment in LT/these characters/history in general will have me sounding like some sort of "retvrn" bozo. or, maybe i just hate that saying "i wish things were more sincere again and that sometimes things that were older were in fact better" has been................... idek how to finish this thought Guys i'm getting overly emotional about LT kiddie records from the '50s. i'm getting emotional about how merchandising for these characters has sucked for the last 45+ years. i do not mean to sound like some sort of obnoxious "old stuff had SOUL to it new stuff is BAD we must RETURN" bozo. but guys. look at this

the appeal.. the whimsy
WHERE DID WE GO WRONG!!!!!!!!!

i legitimately get upset if i think about this for too long. what are we doing man

#FOAMING AT THE MOUTH. WHY HAVE WE BECOME SO AFRAID OF WHIMSY AND SINCERITY AND MAYBE ACCIDENTALLY COMING OFF AS GOOFY IN THE PROCESS#i will so take the slight warm corniness of a 'Bozo approved' Daffy Duck kiddie record over. over. i don't know#i get mad when people dunk on something for being corny because it's old or vice versa but when i rant about these things i end up sounding#like some gross traditionalist and i don't wanna come off as that either 💔#it makes me sad. and needlessly offended#and maybe that's why i have so many disparities with many modern LT fans and attitudes towards the franchise. but when i word them i feel#like i sound pretentious...... everyone likes different things. but i just. IDK!!!#a really good means of comparison for this phenomenon is comparing LT coloring books from the 30s/40s to the 90s#(i did this a few weeks ago and thought i was gonna pop a blood vessel for the reasons above)#i miss earnest i miss warmth i miss whimsy < ok grandma let's get you to bed#this isn't to say everything needs to be cloying. huge reason why i love LT is because it's the exact opposite. but it's earnest in what#it's doing. idk it's late i'm rambling and Charged#also the old stuff being records isnt really a commentary i was just going down a rabbit hole of records and getting emotional at how we#don't get stuff like this anymore and it isn't limited to just LT#'capitalism back in MY day was ARTFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!'#can i just like work in merchandising or something so i can design Good Stuff. i'm constantly coming up with merchandising ideas with my#coworkers. kids deserve better. we deserve better. i deserve better!!!!!#ugh. too passionate for my own good#i was a begrudging graphic design major (not my major of choice) but i do end up realizing just how passionate i am about graphic design#when i make posts like this#this is honestly why warmth is my number one aim in art anymore i just want art to feel human. i hope my art feels human to you#the sterile corporateness of the modern examples genuinely makes me so so so sad

Although the show runner promised an explanation for the Inspector’s bi-incarnation process,
it seemed very well buried beneath the Nari’s crocodile-tear-filled claim that Infinity Knights can’t reproduce because of something the Sergeant did millennia ago that was shoehorned into ‘The Fake Peace’.

this is why young wizards are ruining the field of necromancy. they want to go straight to Death Ball, not bothering with any of the basics that the damn field was founded upon, oh no no no!
We're an offshoot of diviners that specialized in asking the dead for wisdom. act like it.
Death magic is so stupid, you’ve got all these wizards chucking green energy blasts and think that sounds rad, but then you pop the hood on what the energy does and it just makes you dead. “Ooh look at my death ball, when it hits you it kills you!” Bitch so does a fireball but i’ll give you three guesses which is better for heating up rations or keeping me warm at night. Zero utility, unbelievable.
