Although the show runner promised an explanation for the Inspector’s bi-incarnation process,
it seemed very well buried beneath the Nari’s crocodile-tear-filled claim that Infinity Knights can’t reproduce because of something the Sergeant did millennia ago that was shoehorned into ‘The Fake Peace’.

I was watching ‘The Well’ the other day with my mum, and she asked the rather scornful question of “what is it with this touchy-feely Doctor?” That got me thinking, so here’s my answer. On the spot, I told her “I think he’s trying to heal himself”, and since then I’ve thought about my response and I think I’ve worked out the Doctor’s current mental state.
Prior to this current incarnation, the Doctor rarely stopped, always running and trying to stop monsters, and though he had many close friends, he wasn’t always as affectionate with them. Either because there wasn’t any time, or because he was afraid that he’d do something wrong or grieve if he got too close or revealed too many vulnerable truths. Just look at what happened between the Doctor and the Master back when they were kids. Look at what happened to River Song. He didn’t think that he could fully trust himself around the people he cared about because his time with them would always end, inevitably.
But then, he bi-generated, to stay with Donna - a person who he thought he’d lost forever. For once, he wasn’t allowed to run, he just had to stay with his family and process everything he’d experienced. I’m sure he grieved, I’m sure he remembered every single death, every defeat, every time he couldn’t save someone, but beyond that sorrow there was hope, and a chance for more open communication. He’d already seen his next incarnation, who seemed so happy and fulfilled, finally coping with the ghosts of their past, so he had a glimpse of a bright future where he’d maybe be okay.
Now we have the Fifteenth Doctor. He tells Ruby his origins as soon as she asks - he probably doesn’t see the point of keeping that sort of secret anymore - he tells the Space Babies about his status as a foundling, because he’s finally been able to fully process that trauma, and he’s offering more hugs to his companions because even though he’s much more cheerful, he’ll never know what day will be the last time he’ll get to interact with his loved ones. Hence his ‘touchy-feely’ nature, and his crying does make a lot of sense in my opinion - he lets himself feel the negative emotions he’s always suppressed, finally taking his own words (or, rather, Clara Oswald’s words - we love a haunting-the-narrative queen) to heart - fear is a superpower, it “makes companions of us all”. That’s why I love Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor so much, as a person who has also had to process and heal from trauma in my past, becoming a much happier person as a result. Sure, he still has plenty of inner darkness and secrets, but his personal growth is truly beautiful in my opinion.

You know with how disfigured Noob is under his mask, you gotta wonder what he was thinking when he saw Quan Chi basically being Sindel back from a skeleton and turning her back into herself just with mind control and grey skin and veins.
Like he was standing right there and whilst Sindel basically looks 'ok' he got stuck looking like Red Skull painted black.
But was Noob Saibot truly disfigured in MK9? Because his design being based on alive Bi-Han in that game and previous incarnations did not really imply any terrifying body deformation to me
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Considering that when Scorpion burned Bi-Han alive, we could see that just his skull and some bones survived intact only to be dropped by Hanzo and in result shattered,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quan Chi needed to build Bi-Han’s body from scratch. MKX comics and MK9’s resurrection of Sindel proved he was capable of doing so, but if the Netherrealm sorcerer went so far to have almost a replica of living Sub-Zero (including his costume in alternative Noob's version)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
why would he on purpose disfigure Noob? Like, sure, Bi-Han was considered the “bitter enemy” by Shinnok, but as he was supposed to be under Quan Chi’s control and “free from humanity”, the Wraith most likely wouldn’t care one way or another how he looks under the hood so that feels hardly like any punishment. Also, Quan Chi would benefit more from fully healed/physicaly fit Noob as he was working behind Shao Kahn's back to free Shinnok, so it was no good time to be petty about past conflict. We literally have Noob saying he was “perfected” and has "no flaws"
Tumblr media
so I rather see disfiguration/scars of Noob Saibot in MK11/Aftermath
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as a result of Bi-Han surviving the soulnado, as the intro dialogues imply it is indeed astounding he survived it.
Shang Tsung: It's astounding you survived a Soulnado. Noob Saibot: My darkness is immutable and unkillable. Shang Tsung: But is it transferable, Bi-Han?
or
Nightwolf: Didn't the Soulnado kill your brother? Sub-Zero: Bi-Han's nothing, if not resilient. Nightwolf: All evil is, Sub-Zero.
or
Noob Saibot: Leave me be, Cetrion. Cetrion: Banishing shadows is my calling. Noob Saibot: A soulnado could not kill me.
thus in my opinion MK11!Noob’s deformed/scarred face has nothing to do with Quan Chi but it is a way to show us that surviving the soulnado comes at price.
That said, watching the process of bringing Sindel to life could be unpleasant due to his own memories of resurrection.

'Doctor Who executive producer Russell T. Davies warned everyone that the 60th anniversary special episodes were going to introduce some interesting new twists to the mythology of the series meant to set the stage for actor Ncuti Gatwa’s debut as the Time Lord. Some of those changes — especially those specific to the Doctor’s companions and nemeses — have been easy to understand as Davies updating Doctor Who lore to better reflect modern sensibilities. But when it came to the arrival of the newest Doctor — the first leading incarnation of the character to be played by a Black, queer man — Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary special absolutely fumbled the ball by forcing Gatwa to exist in another actor’s shadow.
Regeneration, the transformative process in which Time Lords like the Doctor become new, drastically different versions of themselves, has always been a fascinating part of Doctor Who’s mythology and the BBC’s convenient way of passing the mantle on from one actor to another. Though the Doctor usually recalls the events of their past lives, they’ve always been their own distinct people who go on to have adventures with new companions. The regular casting changes all around are how the series has been able to run for 60 years.
In the post-2005 Doctor Who revival under showrunners Davies, Steven Moffat, and Chris Chibnall, regenerations have been momentous events that gave viewers a taste of what’s to come while saying goodbye to the Doctor’s previous face. But ever since the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) regenerated into a new form resembling the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), it’s been clear that something unusual has been going on inside of the Doctor — something “The Giggle,” the third and final of the 60th anniversary episodes, explores in detail.
After finally setting things right with Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) in “The Star Beast” and then spinning off with her on a nightmarish journey to the edge of the universe in “Wild Blue Yonder,” the Fourteenth Doctor (Tennant) returns to Earth in “The Giggle” to do battle with an updated version of classic Doctor Who villain The Toymaker (Neil Patrick Harris). In his original form (portrayed by Batman alum Michael Gough), The Toymaker was introduced as a game-obsessed being from unknown origins whose knack for defying the laws of physics and inventing deadly “toys” made him a unique threat to the universe. In “The Giggle,” the character returns to the small screen for the first time since his initial appearance with a maniacal plan to destroy the world by hiding a secret rage-inducing signal that’s coded into every screen on the planet.
Ahead of “The Giggle” airing, Davies spoke candidly about wanting to use Harris’ turn as The Toymaker to address the context the character was originally introduced in and Doctor Who’s history of depicting him as a distinctly Asian-coded white man. Here, The Toymaker is presented as an off-putting German man who can’t quite keep a grip on his multiple affected accent. And “The Giggle” spotlights The Toymaker’s protean nature as a clever way of emphasizing just how disturbed the Fourteenth Doctor has been by his inability to fully understand what’s been going on with his own regeneration process.
With “The Giggle” being a special episode in which the stakes have to be high, The Toymaker’s plan for world conquest seems poised to work as he prepares to kill Fourteen by shooting him in front of Donna and fellow companion Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford). But rather than dying from being zapped through the chest with a massive laser, the Fourteenth Doctor is left relatively unharmed save for an odd feeling within himself, and when Fourteen asks Donna and Mel to pull both of his arms, his body begins to split in two.
According to the new Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa), bi-generation — a Time Lord simultaneously regenerating into two separate selves — was supposed to have been a Gallifreyan myth. But as Fourteen and Fifteen team up to defeat The Toymaker, “The Giggle” makes obvious that this era of multiple contemporaneous Doctors is here to stay, and while that’s sure to delight the legions of Doctor Who fans who’ve come to see Tennant as the quintessential Doctor, it’s impossible not to read the episode as having stolen a lot of Gatwa’s thunder.
When Gatwa was first announced as the actor who would be taking over the Doctor role following Whittaker’s three-series-long run, it felt like the BBC finally had the common sense to lean more into Doctor Who’s core ideas about imagination, exploration, and discovery across time and space. No matter how vehemently Doctor Who fans might want to deny it, the fact that the Doctor — a shapeshifting alien from a planet full of brilliant time travelers — was almost exclusively portrayed by white men until 2017 was small-minded, racist, and sexist in equal measure.
Despite their being late to the party, Whittaker’s Thirteen and Jo Martin’s Fugitive Doctor both demonstrated how Doctor Who could stay true to its narrative essence while also allowing the Doctor themselves to better reflect the real-world diversity of the fandom that loves the character. Gatwa’s run has seemed poised to do the same. But everything about the way “The Giggle” brings Fifteen into the picture — from the way he’s left standing in his underwear while Fourteen remains mostly clothed to the implication that the two Doctors will seemingly coexist — makes it seem as if Davies is trying to placate the contingent of fans who don’t want to accept a queer, Black actor playing the Doctor role by keeping Tennant in the mix.
Those fans vocalized their displeasure at the idea of a Black Doctor in the same way that people griped about the idea of a Black Spider-Man, a Black Captain America, or a Black James Bond. They’re the same people who’ve lost their minds at the sight of Black April O’Neil and can’t wrap their minds around the concept of Castlevania: Nocturne’s Black vampires. They’re also the people that love Mace Windu but hated it when Finn picked up a lightsaber and then promptly disappeared for much of the recent Star Wars movies. Point is: these fans are an unfortunate fixture in many genre fandoms, and while some aspects of “The Giggle” actually comment on how dangerous their specific brand of rage can be, the whole situation with “bi-generation” plays like Doctor Who catering to the fandom’s less-enlightened desires.
You can tell that Davies means for it to be poignant and touching in moments when Fifteen confronts Fourteen about his need to deal with his emotional baggage or when the companions express their excitement at meeting a new Doctor. But all of that goodwill is immediately squandered when you have characters (who know better from firsthand experience) asking whether the Doctor comes in a variety of colors.
The trappings and optics of “The Giggle” also add an unfortunate kind of magical negro quality to Fifteen’s heart-to-heart talks with Fourteen, which is a concept that seems like it might be lost on Doctor Who’s writers room. The two Doctors defeat The Toymaker together, but the episode’s real emotional climax comes as Fifteen explains himself as the product of emotional healing that Fourteen hasn’t yet done. The concept of a time traveler “doing rehab out of order” certainly sounds cool on the page. But within the episode itself, it frames Fifteen less as his own person living for himself and more as a source of emotional support for Fourteen, who ends up being inspired by Fifteen’s sage wisdom.
What’s most concerning, though, is the way “The Giggle” implies that the Doctors will now coexist, seemingly as Fourteen joins a bunch of the older companions like Donna, Mel, and Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) as part of a new spinoff project revolving around UNIT, Doctor Who’s answer to Marvel’s SHIELD / SWORD / SABER.
As distinct as each of the 60th anniversary special episodes have been, they each did a fantastic job of digging into the reality of how, after decades of journeying with their ordinary human allies, the Doctor has left more than a few of them behind and feels a profound kind of regret about it. More new stories centering Fourteen and the classic companions could create a way for Davies to dig deeper into that aspect of the Doctor’s psychology, and with Tennant’s tenure as Ten / Fourteen being so beloved by Doctor Who fans, it’s not hard to understand why the BBC might want to keep him around indefinitely.
But part of what made it possible for Tennant’s initial run as the Doctor to become a monster success was the time and space he was given to fully own and make the character his own, independent of his immediate predecessor. “The Giggle” doesn’t wholly preclude Gatwa’s ability to do the same, but simply by making this era one he might have to share with Tennant, Doctor Who has already put him at something of a disadvantage.
Of course, we won’t know until the upcoming Christmas special starts to air exactly how Doctor Who will address bi-generation’s larger ramifications and what sort of figure Fifteen will be on the show. But with the Fourteen still running around, and maybe getting ready to pull everyone’s focus back over to what’s going on in his new life on Earth, it feels like the Fifteenth Doctor might end up having to share his spotlight in a way that the character hasn’t been forced to previously. Let’s hope that doesn’t end up being the case...'

this post has taken so long i suspect it’ll feel entirely disconnected from the LRB which inspired it, good grief. anyways living up to my url again - the orientation ocd inspired essays have been getting way less hard on my anxiety to produce i think i’m getting better at my commitment to reasonableness and attempting to not reproduce structures of systemic oppression to enforce an artificial conservatism of things which i feel so protective of BECAUSE of those same structures of systemic oppression lmao. still not bothering to do a second draft or grammarify things properly though xmx
the desire to bring up how a decent chunk of “radical genderfuckery” in the queer space is at a philosophical level based more on countering the counterculture (due to internet-enabled perceivable narrative saturation & homogeneity of ‘regular’ queer identity) (which, like, the saturation is bc yer at the soup store, but the homogeneity IS actual a reasonable fucking problem to find in it dont get me wrong) and therefore is extremely predictable in how it fails to properly address the more basal systems of transmisogyny and homophobia and other such things - to the point of outright hindering some causes from a purely rhetorical POV (coughs in the general direction of feminist criticism of the foundations of manhood versus ‘oh but i’m undeniably part of the outgroup-to-men-as-engineered-by-Manhood while still being a man!’ individual arguments which like. true, but just specifying ‘CIS men!’ or ‘TME’ in cases of discussing the systemic privileges of patriarchy will fail to properly deconstruct the basii if manhood itself if we accept that men can be things other than cis ya know like -. god sorry fuck this is getting away from me. yes i’m mostly still just failing to internally digest bigender lesbian stuff with my own worldviews’ enzymes thats what this is turning into. to be clear i aint trying to invalidate anything besides my own analytical (or pragmatic capacity to just stop being analytical) skill, if i rip myself away from the rhetorical zeal buzzer i can mostly get it lmao. also yes even away from the buzzer i will still insist that peoples identities are informed by their philosophical mindset towards the community in a way that informs their politics and vice versa i don’t really think that should be controversial. (mine included!!!my internal definition of ‘lesbian’ is a goddamn rube goldberg machine of allowances for shit like my tacit acceptance that our species is a coincidental hivemind or that gender is an unavoidable illusion cast on how humans process data and that any personal sense or identity is held ransom by the extremely specific societal microconditions under which its person is subject to) like if we’re willing to accept that concepts like “genital preference” or any of the particular ways people try to identify themselves as the Truer/Purer/Realer incarnation of their label has a (in these cases more uncomplicatedly negative) causal relationship with the systems of bigotry and catergorization they are born under then i see no reason to hold identity itself as uniquely stagnant from causation like that. (VITALLY IMPORTANT: CRITIQUE OF THESE SORTS OF HEAVILY PERSONAL INTERPRETATIONS OF SELF RELATIVE TO SYSTEM MUST ONLY BE DONE IN RELATION TO AND IN CONTEXT OF BROADER CULTURAL PATTERNS, IF YOU WALK UP TO SOMEONE AND GO “well i think your identity is based on a bourgeoise alienation from the conditions under which sexuality arises! just identify as bi!!!” THATS WHATS GENERALLY REFERRED TO AS “BEING A DICK” AND DOES NOTHING TO JUSTIFY YOUR ANALYSIS OF BROADER IDENTOLOGICAL TRENDS AND HOW THEY MAY BE INFORMED BY QUEER HISTORY AND THE WAY IN WHICH THEY COULD INFORM THE QUEER FUTURE (INCLUDING QUALITATIVE JUDGEMENTS THEREOF)
ok i swear tangent over
VERSUS the understanding that what i refer to with such a description of “radical genderfuckery in the queer community” is merely a subset of lgbt+ people (getting tired if repeating the q word sorry i’m using them interchangeably with no intent to color your presumptions of like, the subset being inherently different than a more “traditionally named” set or anything lmao) being quirky and experimental in a way only differentiable from longstanding cultural dynamics by the way its behavior is informed by extremely online bullshit, with relatively little differentiating the end results except for bad takes on internet discourse and having the most annoying headcanons imaginable. like for instance the actual difference between, like, a lesboy? and like one-seventh of butches out there in general from an internal experience of gender standpoint is PROBABLY (my estimate i’m not a mind reader) way fucking less than the terminology makes it seem. which does invite argument as to whether such precise-of-detail yet imprecise-of-relational-dynamic-to-related-concepts-(orientation-systemic-privilege-etc) is warranted or necessary or if not necessary than a net good in any case, but should not, MUST not foster contempt nor scorn towards other fucking people who just fucking use that language because it works for them or they believe in it. except maybe if its some phenomenally misinformed clown nose bullcrap but lets face it all of us are terrible at identifying whats actually a farce produced out of malign ignorance and whats just some fucking kid playing around with language
also, and this goes for pretty much any fucking faction, arguments towards tradition or precedent for ANYTHING are easily exploited, functionally incomplete, and can only at best proove a phenomenon is not recent. like yes in years past we all used more lumpy labels without the same sense of internal division, or YES in years past we moved past using such lumpy labels and found more precise means of identification. those both are literally true, non contradictory, and yet despite each half swaying in opposite directions as to the goodness of this change of language each says jack shit to emphasize WHY that change may have been good or bad, besides that this was going on a while ago

it sorta seems to me from all this bi-regeneration, tales of the tardis etc stuff that rtd isnt interested in the concept of returning doctors as just dudes from the past but kinda as their own characters (which apparently he says explicitly in the commentary)
and i find that interesting bc i think that's quite boring and flattens what really is the juiciest potential of multi-doctor stories, which is not seeing familiar faces but a reflection on timey-wimeyness and our past selves and who we are and how we change over time.
and i think moffat got that, bc all his multi-doctor stories are very much about that juxtaposition. twice upon a time is about 12 at the end of his rope, ancient and weary and tired and broken meeting his first incarnation who seems so old and yet is so young. day of the doctor is how each of the doctors approach Gallifrey and the time war differently. even time crash is about david tennant fanboying over peter davison and showing homage to doctor who's past. and it's no surprise moffat did understand that because he loved timey-wimeyness and digging deep into who the doctor is.
and it's no shade on rtd for not finding that as compelling, i understand why its not his forte. but i dont find his seeming replacement for it, which is to toy around with the ideas of the different incarnations all being separate people flying around the cosmos to this day.
(and for that matter, i also don't like chibnall's take on the matter either, altho it has bright spots on paper. he could have explored what it means to be the doctor when there's such an infinite procession of incarnations, when justice and goodness still seem to remain even after being mindwiped, but he didn't. so it sorta just seems like flooding the market with knockoff doctors.)

i bring thee a bunch of random TC facts i made:
-Beetle Milk is a variant of Spider Milk. It tastes like almond milk.
-Sonore can only sleep when there’s too much noise, such as a thunderstorm
-The reason why Darian and Loopy have similar bow ties is because the former councilor’s is a gift from Loopy. Darian’s was given after rescuing the to-be Abomination Councilor on the run from the Emperor’s Coven, who were trying to brand her.
-Adding to above, Loopy was one of the many missing (wild) witches until reappearing in post-WAD (before the Epilogue)
-With the exception of Cherry and Ilya, none of the Titan’s Councilor joined a coven
-Ilya was one of the researchers during the early stages of the sigil-removing process.
-Jerbo is still working under the Titan’s Council, even after RED stepped down from their seats
-Dracord is a BI version of Discord. The Titan’s Councilors have a private and personal server where things get a bit too silly (all 9 are there only)
-Darian’s ability is fueled by memory. He can only summon weapons he knows, including how they work. Otherwise, his tail and basilisk form are his only weapons. Darian has an assload of images of rifles in his mind
-Salty is a member, specifically a first mate, of Sonore’s “Demon Realm Expedition.” You can say they’re on the same boat (literally), and it’s evident that the two demons became friends after their first few missions beyond the Boiling Sea together
-Loopy can literally make finger puppets. As a master Abomination witch, crude appearances of witches she knows are shaped on each of her fingers, and the hair that has this can combine into two “hand (or hair, in Loopy’s case) puppets” for each pigtail
-Ilya and Cherry go way back in Talarus Institute, the former as an ex-principal and latter as one of the Healing Councilor’s students. Becoming members of the BI’s new government felt like a school reunion, but a bit awkward because Cherry’s temper...well, worsened the last time Ilya saw them before the tryouts and the school fire.
-While Ilya demonstrates apathy in the present, deep inside is a small group of emotions he tucked away after the burning of TI’s original incarnation. Those emotions began to leak out once he works with Cherry in the council, sometimes showing bits of his therapist-like side
-Yurei used to work in a similar job like that one ghost(?) demon that Eda hired to spy on Raine
-There was skepticism regarding Darian becoming an Illusion Councilor, but the basilisks’ votes helped him: *upon recognizing that pretentious voice on the crystal ball* “HE’S ALIVE????”
-Jasmine is quick at catching things flying at a speed of a bullet
-Cherry calls the fruits they’re allergic to as “shitrus”
-Ripley used to write fanfiction a lot as a track student, and she still does as an adult!
-Ripley’s a lesbian
-Yurei’s agender (applies to its corporeal form in the Ghastly Ages)
-Loopy’s aunt, who currently works as the manager of the Bonesborough Carnival, was the previous Abomination Coven Head before Darius. Thus, Loopy worked as a ringmaster and this former role made her a primary candidate for the Titan’s Council
-Yurei is described as the leader of the council, due to its no-nonsense nature
-Combining the fury of Darian and Sonore is the most terrifying combo the BI will ever see: it’s gonna be the storm of a lifetime
-A single swing of whatever Berylis wields (ex: brewball stick) can explode a griffin
-Jasmine has yet to snap
-Of all the councilors, Gus barely interacts with Loopy (hint: coulrophobia)
-Aside jazz, Sonore’s also a metal (music) fan
-Ripley originally worked as a part-time librarian
-Darian currently lives in a town near the University of Wild Magic (in order to reconnect with his old basilisk buddies)
-Jasmine has amazing survival skills. However, she slowly “withers” when exposed to snow for a long time
-Darian doesn’t know who this “Meep-0” humans have been referring him as, since they claim the stranger has a striking voice as the “floating British roomba”
-Since the rebuilding of the BI, Cherry has been going to therapy for a while. Being part of the council made them mellow out slowly.
-Ilya hates going up on slopes by foot
-Berylis technically acts like the Announcer from the SSB series (4 and U)
-If the Coven Heads represent the BLU team, then the Titan’s Council are the RED team:
Offense: Berylis (Scout), Sonore (Soldier), Loopy (Pyro)
Defense: Cherry (Demoman), Ripley (Heavy), Darian (Engineer)
Support: Ilya (Medic), Jasmine (Sniper), Yurei (Spy)

Stap in and strap on, folks, cus it's time for the cast of my life, separated into groups for your convenience! Some people may apply to more than one group but I'm just gonna put em in the group I most associate them with and then put em in brackets in any other group. Bit without further ado, HERE WE GO:
Lunch group: The group of friends I've been with the longest, and I almost always have lunch with them. (We are all special lmao)
AC, They/Them, Ace: chaotic and snappy
RW, She/They, Pan: friendly and... Tries their best
RM, She/Her, Bi: goth, insanely pretty but denies it and is down TREMENDOUS for various fictional men
LW, She/Her, straight(?): very quiet, very mature, insanely smart and so done with all of our shit
MD, He/Him, Bi(?): the only other person on the half of the group that isn't down bad for fictional men, idk too much else ABT him actually...
Party group: A very musically inclined group that I frequently have parties with (also named like this to avoid later confusion) Some of them are in a band
MF, He/Him, prefers no labels: Is actually unironically clinically insane, but we love him for it and he's just a chill dude with a bunch of the same interests as me
JD, He/Him, Bi: The lead guitarist and singer. The most musically talented fucker we all know and yet he denies it, is super cool and also down to do pretty much anything he might find fun (also kind to a fault, like an actual flaw he has is that he is too nice)
LA, She/Her, Bi: Emo, theatre kid and is cold and snappy on the outside, but is chill and understanding on the inside
AA, He/Him, Straight: The rhythm guitarist. rich parents, plays the guitar
IB, She/Her, Bi: is basically with AA all the time and gives off similar vibes (yeah idk how to describe these 2)
RP, He/Him, Straight: The bassist. Very chaotic and unaware of social cues. Like in a "will speak his thought process aloud while thinking it" kinda way
DH, He/Him, straight(?): The drummer. Really chill, a gamer (the good kind), has some kind of disability I can't remember the name of that makes his legs weaker or smn
Music enhance group: I took my colleges equivalent of a musical elective (kinda like an extra, once a week class) and we all just kinda vibed together
AD, She/Her, gay: the nerdiest one in the group, enough to rival me, and is super chill and likes to do art, play music and bake
RH, She/Her, Bi: Massive music nerd and just a really fun person to hang around with
FD, She/Her, Bi: the person I'm least close to in the group, but I can tell she's p cool
HR, She/Her, Ace: massive musical theatre nerd and just nerd in general, also insanely chaotic.
(JD is also here)
Misc. Friends: friends that either don't fit into a group above or a part of too small of a group for me to list above
DP, He/Him, Ace: Chill INCARNATE, in my game design class and we do be vibin every time we interact
HB, He/Him, Straight: Also in my game design class, pretty fun guy to talk to
And that's it!! I'll do my best to keep updating this and editing it to keep it up to date stuff. Also most of the people whose second initial is D stands for Doe, cus idk their last name.
Also
SSGD, He/Him, Straight: ME! HI! I am your host and I'm just a huge nerd in almost all fields and this is my first time trying to keep a steady posting schedule on anything, let alone keeping a diary. If U See SSGD anywhere on any of my posts it is referring to me.
Any more questions? Send me an ask!

Oh my lovelies, Wednesday is upon us again, and that means I should be posting a chapter of ADA tomorrow and I am here with the sad news that I am not going to be posting a chapter of ADA tomorrow. The lack of a chapter buffer in combination with the season of daycare colds (and apparently daycare stomach bugs as well) have overtaken me. I've written a lot of the next section, but I'm feeling a bit on the edge of safety about it, and so it's not coming out to play quite yet.
Have I said before that I've been learning a lot about myself as a writer as I write ADA? I have! It's been so valuable and enriching and rewarding, and one of the things I learned is that I probably shouldn't post things as I'm writing them because #1) As a discovery writer, it's very challenging to periodically find myself locked into a narrative arc that I feel like needs pacing help and feel like I want to resculpt several chapters to do that and I just...can't (I know I can, it's fanfiction, there aren't rules, but I don't feel like I can) #2) good fucking god, my addiction-prone brain is not capable of coping with the intermittent-reward-granting casino that is feedback. I love feedback, I love everyone's comments, and if you've commented or kudosed or reblogged any of my words, you are a gift and have made my day brighter in immeasurable ways. But fucking hell, it's a lot harder for me to write when I'm thinking about when that next dopamine surge is going to hit.
So, okay. Some words. These words are...Agatha/OFC. ADA'ers you know who I'm talking about. This is for an offshoot story, because when you suggested I write ADA Smut, I immediately knew I was going to write Svea/Agatha. Sorry, Snowbaz ADA smut may get its moment, but that moment is not today. Svea POV:
The first thing I noticed about Agatha was the line where her jaw slopes into her neck, the interplay of tendons and skin and bone: the sternocleidomastoid, the hyoids, the styloid process. When she tucks her golden hair behind her ear, it's like the world lifting the clouds to reveal its most precious landscape.
Every body, every being, is a demonstration of the perfect shape of the universe. Every child, every tree, even every mal, is a punch through probability and into reality. Each and every one of us is magic incarnate.
Not that I want to pull every body flush with mine and make it pant and gasp and scream.
Thanks for tagging me @artsyunderstudy! 'Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies reveals that the regeneration between David Tennant and Ncuti Gatwa in the 60th-anniversary special "The Giggle" was almost a much more visually chaotic and violent sequence than what would be seen on screen. The final episode brought the show's milestone celebrations to a close, as Tennant's Fourteenth Doctor battled the Toymaker (Neil Patrick Harris) over the fate of the human race. In the final act of "The Giggle," the Fourteenth Doctor is shot by a beam of galvanic radiation, but rather than changing into his Fifteenth incarnation (Gatwa), the Doctor is divided into two beings by the fabled bi-generation, as both the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Doctors stand together.
With Doctor Who's shocking 60th-anniversary bi-generation twist taking audiences by surprise, Davies revealed more details about it with producer Phil Collinson and Tennant during BBC iPlayer's "The Giggle" commentary. He said the sequence could have almost had a more drastic visualization. When discussing the back-and-forth on how they brought the bi-generation to life, Collinson stated that the separation would have initially seen the two Doctors physically torn apart in the process, something Davies and Collinson agree would have been too violent. Check out Davies, Collinson, and Tennant's full explanation below:
Russell T Davies: "Oh my god, the fussing over this special effect was..."
David Tennant: "Was it difficult?"
Phil Collinson: "Oh, it was really difficult. Well, this particular shot, as well. It’s quite funny. It’s like a bubble, isn’t it? Like an amoeba. And there were versions where you kind of ripped apart."
Davies: "It was too violent!"
Collinson: "Some violence."
Davies: "It was too liquid sometimes. It was
 It was too thin."
Collinson: "I wanted to put a popping cork on, but they wouldn’t let me."
Why A Calmer Regeneration Works Best For Doctor Who's 60th-Anniversary Storyline?
Doctor Who has seen several regeneration processes where the transformation has caused pure chaos — sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. In Tennant's final Tenth Doctor adventure, "The End of Time," the Time Lord regenerates inside the TARDIS after a farewell tour, leading to the vessel sustaining heavy damage from the regeneration energy, sending it crashing into a garden in the village of Leadworth, and requiring time to repair. Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor would weaponize this energy against a Dalek saucer in "The Time of the Doctor," and Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor would also damage the TARDIS in his regeneration, which left Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor separated from her ship.
With so many violent, destructive regenerations, the handover between Tennant and Gatwa not only marks a welcome change, but it works better for the tale "The Giggle" and prior Doctor Who 60th-anniversary specials. The Fourteenth Doctor is faced with the question of why he is still running and not taking the time to come to terms with his previous travels, which bi-regeneration will allow as the Fifteenth Doctor continues the adventure. As such, the two Doctors taking a moment to work together and compartmentalize these two phases of their lives by pushing each other apart is a fitting encapsulation of what this moment means for the Doctor.
Bi-generation is a never-before-seen scenario that has raised dozens of questions about what the future of Doctor Who could be. As such, not only is a more peaceful process fitting with the 60th-anniversary specials' story but having a less violent separation between Tennant and Gatwa allowed audiences to be fully shocked by the mere implications rather than its visuals. While Gatwa's Doctor Who adventures will begin in the Christmas special, bi-generation will remain one of the show's pivotal moments.'

Being 12 in the Dregs was the perfect time to learn.  Kaz was young enough that Per Haskell and the older members thought he was still green, too young to really know how to listen and learn, so they let him sit in on meetings, let him carry messages around town, and let him organize and clean offices alone.  He used all of this time to absorb all the information he could about everyone.  Who was paying who and how much, who wasn’t sleeping with their wife that night, or who had just bought a boy from a slaver, everything he could learn to use at a later time.  So when Haskell sent him to the Emerald Palace was a note for Pekka Rollins Kaz took it gladly, desperately wanting to learn some secrets.  However, when he read the message, his heart jumped to his throat.
I’ll have some Dregs waiting for Mellar and that girl by the Crow Club after 10 bells, they’ll rough her up good, give her a lesson for you.  Make sure Mellar knows and stays by the backdoor so she can’t get into the club.  You owe me. – Haskell
He knew that the ‘her’ being referred to had to be Y/N.  She was the only person that Mellar was in charge of overseeing.  He wasn’t sure what lesson Rollins wanted to teach her this time or why but he knew he had to stop it.  He delivered the message as promised but instead of returning to the Slat he looked around, figuring the way that Mellar would probably take her to get to the club.  He waited on a street that wasn’t normally crowded, bordering the back of some taverns and the canal.  He stood, biding his time, his knife already in his hand.
It was dark and the street in front of the Emerald Palace was filling up just as Mellar walked out, Y/N following behind him.  He glanced around, not a care in the world, he was Pekka Rollins’s enforcer, no one would touch him.  Y/N was the daughter of the most powerful slum lord in the Barrel, she was safe outside of her home.  At least, that’s what Mellar thought as he started down the side street near the canal, wanting to get this business over and done with.  Y/N had been lippy with him all day and he couldn’t wait to see her get what was coming to her, harden her up some.  He past in front of Kaz without noticing.  Y/N stopped.  She would find Kaz no matter where he was, she looked at him and he sent her a smirk before he jumped out of the shadows and onto Mellar’s back.  He put his arm around to the man’s front and started stabbing, not caring where he hit or if he got cut in the process.  Mellar let out a cry and fell to the ground, struggling to get away.
           “They heard him
one of the barkers is coming, give me the knife,” she said, snatching it away from him. Kaz looked at her as she started stabbing herself.  “Hide!” Kaz dove into an alcove between the taverns, holding his breath as a barker ran past him and to Y/N.
           “Just wait until your father
” he started.  She growled and held up the knife.
“What in the hell are you doing stupid girl?” came Rollins’s voice.  Kaz could see him walking up to her.  He looked between Mellar’s dead body and her, shaking his head.  “Well, guess there’s a little bit of fight in you isn’t there?”  He reached out, grabbing her by the hair to drag her back to his club, but she slashed the knife out, cutting his arm pretty bad.  He growled and she instantly cowered back, knife falling to the cobbles. He had her hair still, so he bent down and picked up the knife.  Kaz almost revealed himself then, wanting to save her, but he knew he couldn’t.  They were outnumbered by 3 fully grown men, the odds were against them and he wasn’t foolish enough to try to play hero.
“Maybe you should get a taste of what Mellar felt,” Rollins said, stabbing the knife into her shoulder, pushing it in up to the hilt before pulling it out again.  Y/N was panicking, her breath coming in short pants. “Here, a night in the canal should do you good.”  He pushed her back and Kaz watched with horror as she fell back into the water, starting to sink.  Rollins told the others to clean up Mellar’s mess before heading back.  While they were distracted Kaz slid out and dove into the water.  It took him a few seconds to find her floating just under the surface.  He didn’t want to do this, it was too much like Jordie, but he couldn’t let her die in there.  With all the will he could muster he slid one arm under her arms and swam towards the nearest set of stairs.  He pulled her up, taking his shirt off and tearing off his sleeve.  He wrapped it around her wound, tying it as tight as he could hoping that would be enough until he could get her somewhere a little safer.
Once the barkers had finished with Mellar’s body Kaz picked Y/N up, trying to be gentle while also ignoring the bile in his throat.  He swallowed down the sick and climbed the stairs, keeping to alleys and side streets that were less crowded until he found the old burned out pleasure house near the Slat.  There was a door that only swung open enough for a child or maybe small adult could fit through.  Kaz set Y/N’s unconscious body against the wall and slid inside before pulling her in after him.  He carried her to an old bed on the wall and laid her down.  She was still breathing so he left to find something to use as a better bandage.  He found an old cotton dress, something worn by one of the girls probably, and tore off a piece.  He set about dressing her wound properly and once that was done and he knew he wouldn’t need to touch her again he vomited in a corner, his body shaking as he came to terms with what had happened.  He had been able to keep the images and feelings at bay while he helped her, his need to save her had overridden his sickness.  That was something to keep in mind for later, this could be overcome, but only when a stronger feeling came around.
“Kaz?” he heard her whisper.  He moved over to the bed and sat down on it.  She was awake, face still lacking color due to blood loss.
“You’re alive, we’re in that Dove’s Nest pleasure house that burnt down,” he said.  She nodded slowly, eyes starting to focus.
“He stabbed me, threw me in the canal,” she said.
“And yet somehow you don’t have gangrene,” Kaz said, trying to take her mind off of the betrayal she had suffered.  She laughed a little, but he knew his ploy hadn’t worked.  Her life was a betrayal, from her father’s abuse, to those around her laughing at his actions, to the saints and gods that did nothing to save her.  Kaz was the only person who hadn’t betrayed her, and he knew it was only a matter of time before he did.  He would have to if he wanted to destroy Rollins’s life, he just hoped she would understand.  “Where is your mother?  Why isn’t she helping you?”
“My mother died having me,” she said.  “I think that’s when my father decided I was a demon incarnate, come to bring him shame and suffering.”  She tried to move her arm but just whimpered.  Kaz tried to help her sit up but she waved him away.  “Don’t force yourself, I don’t want to make you feel more uncomfortable than you already do.”  Was he that transparent to her?
“Is that why he does this to you?” he asked, motioning to her shoulder.  She nodded.
“He thinks it will harden me, make me more like him if I suffer enough I will want to make others suffer.  It just does the opposite, I never want anyone to feel like I do ever again,” she said. So noble, Kaz wished he could be more like that sometimes.  Imagine being able to take all the bad around you and try to make it good.  She was trying to rise out of the swamp she was born while Kaz was nesting deep in it, building a nice summer home for him to spend his days.
“Get some rest,” he said softly, wanting this conversation to be over.  This was too draining for him.  She didn’t fight him, just laid her head down and closed her eyes. He could hear her breathing even out so he snuck out, finding food and water for when she woke up.  He set himself up next to the bed and leaned his head back on the drooping mattress, watching her sleep.  His eyes closed and he dreamed about killing Mellar again, only this time he finished the job, and in the dream she kissed him and he didn’t feel sick, he felt like flying.
In the morning she woke up after him, seeing just a note left nearby telling her to eat and drink and then get home.  She smiled softly and ate the crackers he had left.  She looked around the room and smiled a little.  This could be a nice place to stay.  As she walked back to the Emerald Palace she started planning how she could make that old brothel a little home for her.  However, that dream ended the moment Rollins told her to come to his office.
“Its time you start taking responsibility around here, I’ve coddled you too long,” he said.  “Seeing that killer instinct last night made me realize, you’re almost grown now, time for you to be a lieutenant in my gang, time for your first real job.”
“And what job is that?” she asked.  He smiled.
“You are going to rob the Black Tips safe house past West Stave, take your new guard with you, gather some lions and get it done by tomorrow night,” Rollins said, motioning for a young man a of couple years older than her to follow.  She glanced at him and he smiled at her, it was kind and she almost fell for it.  Her father knew she was starting to get feelings for someone, she was at that age that things like that happened, so he was pushing someone from his crew for her to fall for.  And since Kaz was unreachable, someone she couldn’t ever actually be with, maybe she would let it happen.  She would keep Kaz in her heart, locked away in that place only soulmates get to stay. Maybe someday she could take him out and let those feelings really grow, but not now, not until the Dime Lions were dead and Kaz was sitting on their ashes.

kon might have had "independence" but that was so bad for him...he was a child and went through so much in his 1994 solo because his whole life revolved around being superboy and he didnt have a proper support system. its literally stated in that book that what he needed was a life outside of superheroing and staying w martha kent allowed him to heal and realize he has worth outside of the mask. thinking of him as two separate characters is such a shallow way of looking at him and shows u have no understanding of the themes in his books
oh dear, have you by any chance read my answer?
what i copied and pasted is:
the independence bit you brought up is something i soo love about it!! also bc not only bis independence, but the way he lived it in itself was a big theme. the way he lived this big autonomy like a fantasy, like you said, but then he found out he was more than that
left to himself. that he did have a good relationship with clark but, we must admit, he wasn't as present as he could've been. that the agony of the last issues came from everything that was built up in the previous part of the run- he'd spent so much time being free that he lost the direction he had. and in the end he broke down
how was i supposed to be clearer than that?
if you think my issue was him having been living with martha and john you didn't understand a thing i said. to be true, i actually appreciated that bit a lot!! it was the finale of his solo and i remember from the first time i read it a sense of catharsis
the problem is that goeff johns didn't elaborate shit on what had happened before. a nice thing to do would have been, and let me rewrite the exact words i wrote already,
to witness a process of healing, i think. like seeing the way he would have rebuilt himself finding out who he really was, growing up and stuff.
seeing the way he would have lived a new life, rebuilt himself after he broke down, learned to know himself not anymore as a child superhero star, but as conner. kon. the name is a whole other thing that i overthink about a lot, but that's not the point (it does tie in this, but i don't wanna make it any longer)
instead, geoff johns threw in the whole mess this stupid retcon that deviated completely from the meaning of kon's journey until then and the foundations of his character.
i mean, you talk about "a life outside of the mask", and we did see him go to school from time to time, but after geoff johns took over the entirety of his internal dilemma was about his legacy, rather than who he would be - this is a conclusion that came a tiny bit too late, considering that stepping out of the superheroing world was a step he was meant to have made already
and this is what i mean when i say i feel like they're completely different character; because i feel like none of kon's previous experience reflect themselves in his post-2003 incarnation, and i firmly believe that a person's experiences are the thing impacting their personality the most, so can you really say that a character who feels like he hasn't had those experiences is really the same character? it's simpler than it sounds actually. but i hope you finally get what i mean

Our Cosmic Mother
Tumblr media
As the Holy Mother is progressively returning to reclaim and restore her creation, advanced Godhead technology included in the Arc Zone Blue Ray architecture is modifying the planetary grid to transmit levels of the Sophianic female coding.  Recent activations are spreading the natural Krystic divine blueprint further into the planetary grid areas, which were previously running the reversed currents to fuel the artificial timelines. In this process, clones, negative forms, alien hybrid replications, and their false timelines are being utterly destroyed into tiny consciousness units and reabsorbed back into the Creatrix field. Many of these reversal networks for energy harvesting are being starved out, as this particular Mother Arc coded activation is dissolving bi-wave reversal architecture.  As the patriarchal coding is rapidly dismantling in the planetary architecture, it is also surfacing memories and realizations of what has happened to humanity under the NAA mind control programming of patriarchal domination.
The Holy Mother through the Mother Arc hubs, created within the Arc of the Covenant gateway, intends to reclaim the genetic bonds to heal her offspring incarnated within the lower creation worlds. This is also about correcting the Mother to Child RNA-DNA records within the divine blueprint of humanity, extracting Black Lilith archetypes and aligning the corrected mitochondria and chromosomal bonds to the Holy Mother’s eternal flame, that is held deep within the sacred crystal heart. The Mother Arc Aquamarine gateway has been initiated into its next stages of dissolving the NAA’s patriarchal coding network and its Alien Dark Mother constructs that have infected the planet earth, and this lunar architecture has been tracked from the Wesa Fallen System.
The changing architecture that supports the restoration of the Universal Solar Feminine, the embodied Female Melchizedeks, has had a major impact on how the lunar forces are recorded in the timelines of the collective consciousness blueprints. In some cases, it effectively erases the lunar records in the past cellular memories of human genetic templates. This is significantly shifting the female principle away from the lunar controls of the moon chains and reconfiguring the female aspects of the lightbody to transfigure into the solar architecture. This transforms how these macrocosm grids actually function to direct Krystic energy current throughout the ley lines, shifting out of reversal networks to move and direct consciousness energy into trinity wave formats that support solar architecture by circulating them into the planetary body.  The major feedlines of the reversal networks that cause the checkerboard mutation located in its epicenter in the United Kingdom grids, are yielding much less loosh for NAA harvesting. This is also related to the subsequent anchoring of Emerald Order Edenic blueprints, in collaboration with Emerald Guardian teams gridwork repair projects that are interlinking assorted krystalline platforms in the United Kingdom and other key demographic areas to access the Arc Zone.
Patriarchal Domination Code Network
Thus, the NAA groups have to work much harder and are attempting to kill more living things to siphon the amount of global energy they need in order to maintain their black magic control over the earth. Some of their human counterparts in the Power Elite group believe they must bring on these destructive events to generate the apocalypse and end of times. The Armageddon or 9-11 program is what incites the trigger events for the apocalyptic timelines, and this is actually a patriarchal domination code system that has its own technological language, which was installed by the NAA into the planetary mind at the time of invasion. This is one purpose for the increase of the outer projections of dystopian and apocalyptic images sent into the mass media, news and entertainment outlets that use predictive programming. This is intended to flash destructive images embedded with the numerical coding that activate the genocidal programs and mind control that is put in place by the Controllers.
Predictive programming is a subtle form of psychological conditioning and targeting of the subconscious with coded words and low frequencies, used in these mind control networks. This function is provided by the controlled press and mainstream media to acquaint the public with planned societal changes that are being implemented by the Controllers for the New World Order. Their intended design is to kill off a significant portion of the global population for use in blood sacrifice fueled black magic, that can be used to power up these artificial timelines as a result of activating the numerical language programs that trigger the apocalyptic software. These numerical coded programs, let’s say to activate 9-11 timelines, are what continue the NAA’s Luciferian reversal systems that project the virtual reality of the apocalypse. This fuels the Armageddon software and thus continues the anti-Christ rule of enforced patriarchal domination. However, the Godhead has other plans in store that are much more benevolent and compassionate on behalf of supporting the earth and humanity to become free of their spiritual oppressors during the Ascension cycle.

it’s 1am and im still thinking about this
morten doesnt join either side in the skyrim civil war and we all know WHY: they both SUCK
he wants the imperials out of skyrim if all theyre going to do is tell them who to worship—he does hate talos but he also doesnt want “no talos” to turn into “no nord gods, you must worship the cyrodiil gods the way our culture dictates them”
he wants the stormcloaks to choke if all theyre going to do is peddle conservative nord ideology when nords are already SO CONSERVATIVE
yeah there are a lot of npcs you can date of any gender, clearly giving the implication that theyre bi, but im of the opinion that a game mechanic for ease of playing does not equal progressive character writing. there are TONS of guys a male player could date, TONS of girls a female player could daye, but theres never any discussion on what that means in the environment. having no acknowledgement of gay or bi romance is no more progressive than having phobic characters, right
and then theres the RACISM like nords are already so conservative without the stormcloaks being around; ulfric and his goons are just making it WORSE
morten does NOT join either side and instead infiltrates both sides in as many ways to HELP people as possible. people or towns who align with either side still need support, the war is crazy, and the dragons don’t make it any easier! this ends up working sort of against him though because someone enters his life later and.... sort of demands to know why he DOESNT choose a side. this person ends up calling him complacent and that even though he IS helping people, the war will continue, and SOMEONE will win unless HE, THE DRAGONBORN, steps in and uses his big boy voice to take a stand.
morten sort of internalizes that concept and like.... doesnt really know what to do for a while because he doesnt WANT to call attention to himself like that; he especially doesnt want to use his status as this incarnation of a hero of legend to make quite that much change.... he feels like if he kicks out the imperials and usurps the high king throne, the responsibility would fall to him to pick up the pieces. but he doesnt...... know what leadership looks like. he doesnt want that, and he doesnt want to ruin skyrim in the process. it’s a tough dilemma for him 😰

'Doctor Who has made history with its first ever bi-generation as Ncuti Gatwa succeeded David Tennant as the Doctor in the final 60th anniversary special, "The Giggle." Facing off against a returning 1960s villain, the Toymaker (Neil Patrick Harris), the Fourteenth Doctor was shot by a Galvanic beam to trigger a regeneration. Due to the rules of the Doctor and the Toymaker's game, the cosmic trickster decides that a new incarnation should play their third and final game. However, the Toymaker got more than he bargained for when, rather than trigger a regeneration, he caused the first-ever bi-generation.
The specifics of regeneration in Doctor Who have never been nailed down, and the ancient Gallifreyan process to cheat death is regularly being tweaked or rewritten by subsequent production teams. In the late 1970s, Romana (Lalla Ward) was able to choose bodies before settling on her next regeneration in "Destiny of the Daleks". And then, in Matt Smith's final Doctor Who adventure, "The Time of the Doctor", the Eleventh Doctor was awarded a brand-new regeneration cycle. Much later, Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor discovered that they provided the genetic building blocks for Time Lord regeneration. The bi-generation between David Tennant and Ncuti Gatwa is merely the latest quirk of this unknowable process.
Bi-Generation Means The Doctor Has Split In Two
After being shot by the Galvanic beam, the Fourteenth Doctor begins regenerating, supported by Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and Melanie Bush (Bonnie Langford). And then, much like he did during "Journey's End", David Tennant remains as the Doctor. In a callback to Peter Davison's regeneration in "The Caves of Androzani", the Fourteenth Doctor notes that "it feels different this time" before splitting, like an amoeba, into two Doctors. The Fourteenth Doctor's costume is then shared between both Doctors, leaving Ncuti Gatwa in an unbuttoned shirt, loosened tie, pants and a pair of Converse boots.
It's never been done before in Doctor Who, but brilliantly it allows Russell T Davies to give fans a multi-Doctor special for the 60th anniversary. After the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Doctors defeat the Toymaker, the two incarnations are also able to split the TARDIS in two. The explanation given is that the Toymaker's powers, and the influence of his realm have allowed the Fifteenth Doctor to bend reality and create a second TARDIS. This may also be the explanation for how the Doctor was able to split himself in two to get some backup in his final battle with the Toymaker.
Bi-Generation Is A Time Lord Myth
Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor states that bi-generation is a Time Lord myth, suggesting that there have been no recorded incidents until now. Given that Doctor Who's Timeless Child retcon confirms the Time Lords' regenerative gifts originated with the Doctor as a child, it makes sense that they're also the first to bi-generate. There's some lovely poetry in Russell T Davies' concept of bi-generation, which effectively allows the Doctor to unburden themselves of all the trauma they've experienced over the past fourteen regenerations. Splitting himself in two was a clever trick to defeat the Toymaker, but it has also renewed the Doctor to start afresh.
In-universe, the Doctors' regeneration tends only to happen at the end of a climactic battle, not during one. Faced with a deadly threat to all reality and some of his oldest friends, it does make sense that the Doctor would use their regeneration energy to effectively birth a new incarnation. Interestingly, Russell T Davies has stated that the bi-generation is how all the past Doctors are back for Tales of the TARDIS. This claim was made in the hugely enjoyable in-vision commentary on The Giggle, available on the BBC iPlayer, a clip from which was shared on Twitter.
Do Both Doctors Retain All Their Memories?
Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor definitely appears to have the same memories as David Tennant's Doctor, referencing everything from Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) to the devastation of Logopolis and the death of Adric (Matthew Waterhouse). So it certainly seems that he retains those memories and that knowledge, but has managed to move past the emotional baggage of all that pain and loss. Although the Fourteenth Doctor spends time showing Fifteen how to operate the TARDIS, it feels like he's trying to be useful and find something to do now that his successor has arrived.
However, as bi-generation is a brand-new concept, it's not completely outwith the realm of possibility that the Fifteenth Doctor has forgotten some things. David Tennant and Ncuti Gatwa's Doctors had the Fourteenth Doctor's costume split between them, so it's possible that not every memory has been transferred. This would freshen up Doctor Who for the Ncuti Gatwa era, with the time traveler being put on the back foot again, learning and reacting to each new situation instead of being the slightly insufferable know-it-all that previous incarnations could be.
Doctor Who's Bi-Generation Sets Up Future Stories For Both Gatwa & Tennant
The Doctor's bi-generation was teased by Doctor Who's metacrisis solution, when Donna and her daughter Rose (Yasmin Finney) divided the Time Lord mind between them. Both Doctors effectively do the same thing in The Giggle, but rather than "let it go", the Fourteenth Doctor still seems keen to have adventures. It's revealed in the touching final scene that the Doctor has already taken Rose to Mars, and traveled to New York's gilded age with Mel. What's more, UNIT will surely be delighted to know that they've got an Earthbound Doctor once again.
Having two Doctors exist at the same time does mean that Ncuti Gatwa and David Tennant could meet up again in Doctor Who's future. In just a handful of scenes, their chemistry is electric, and fans will already be eagerly anticipating their next team-up. For now, though, the focus should be on establishing the new era of Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. David Tennant's Doctor has effectively retired, paying off a long-held ambition by writers like Douglas Adams and Steven Moffat. However, should events ever spiral out of control again, the Fifteenth Doctor knows that he can rely on his predecessor and his new family for back-up in future Doctor Who episodes.'
