Barney Miller 4.2
Terrific dramatic performance from Abe Vigoda in his final episode as a series regular.
There are two high-points in this episode. First, Vigoda’s performance as Fish tries/fails to come to terms with his impending retirement. The one-on-one with Barney is particularly good. It plays like a scene from a drama. And it really works.
Second, the character farewells at the end are heartfelt and powerful. It really fells like they all mean every word. And it is genuinely touching.
Fish was the best character on the show in these early years, so it made sense to spin him off into his own series. And while I will miss him for the remaining seasons, I’m glad this meant we got a proper ‘goodbye’ for the character.
The rest of the episode is nothing special, however. There’s a b-story about a man who thinks there are clones everywhere, but other than being played for some obvious laughs it serves no purpose except filler.
Even the Fish-storyline, which is good, takes too long to get up to steam. The first half of the episode keeps hitting the same beat over and over, and the viewer does grow impatient.
James Gregory was funny here and Luger was well used in the script.
8/10

Top 5 obscure weird facts u know
sorry in advance for the long post bcuz of my inclusion of photo examples
1. the little creature here from the cancelled 2004 game was called gytgo and heres some dialogue it was supposed to have with sam and max, posted by steve purcell
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Derek Stratton, concept artist for the sam and max telltale games, also was one of the two designers for the Drake Sprite Commercial
Tumblr media
3. signed by the voice actors scripts of the first 3 episodes of the snm cartoon were auctioned off once and little known fact i would kill anyone i had to to get my hands on one
Tumblr media
4. speaking of the cartoon J.D. Smith (writer on the show) also did a lot of work for the beetlejuice cartoon and tintin which i thought was cool since i also like both of those shows
5. since hit the road was the first time the characters of sam and max would be voice acted steve purcell had to sit down and think about his voice headcanons for his own characters. he said for sam his first thought/choice was “donald sutherland, but a young version from the movie MASH” another thought was steve landesberg from the barney miller show. the actual role went to bill farmer bcuz steves thought process was essentially “well he voices a funny cartoon dog, so”

Detective Beech in Progress
Not that Detective Beech was anyone's favorite character, but it's my mission to post any concept art from HER I can find onto this blog. I think it's a nice in-progress look at how a character would be created from the starting inspiration to the 3D model. This was posted on the Amateur Sleuth blog here on August 16th, 2010 by Novel:
In addition to the new ending, extra puzzles, and updated graphics, we also added a new animated character to the remastered version of Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill (PC/Mac). Please meet, Detective Beech!
We included a new character in the game because we felt Daryl didn't make a very convincing "police" contact in the game. The name "Detective Beech" come from the end of the original version of Secrets Can Kill which shows a billboard for a TV show called "Detective Beech." The show can also be seen on TV in #22 Trail of the Twister.
Detective Beech is undercover so he's not wearing the police uniform. The character is based on Steve Landesberg from Barnie Miller.

Here's the first concept sketch the artist created for him.

Once we had his facial features figured out, we dressed him a short sleeve polo shirt and a chinos which fit his somewhat frumpy demeanor. He's middle aged, middle weight, average height. Here's the final rendering in 3D of the new character.

Featured artist: unknown.

Take my book, please! Staff favorite holiday gift book ‘A Small Book of Jewish Comedians’ releases this week from @reelartpress In 1978, @time magazine estimated that around 80 percent of professional American comics were Jewish, and Jewish humor remains a foundation stone of American popular culture and humor. This book is not intended as a definitive tome but is instead a joyful and irreverent celebration of great photography and some of the greatest one-liners of the 20th century, ripe in satire, anecdote, self-deprecation and irony. Photos of more than 70 comedians are accompanied by one-liners such as: “Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.” (Groucho Marx) and “It was a Jewish porno film … one minute of sex and nine minutes of guilt.” (Joan Rivers). FEATURING Woody Allen • Morey Amsterdam • Dave Attell • Sacha Baron Cohen • Roseanne Barr • Jack Benny • Milton Berle • Shelley Berman • Joey Bishop • Lewis Black • Elayne Boosler • David Brenner • Fanny Brice • Albert Brooks • Mel Brooks • Lenny Bruce • George Burns • Red Buttons • Sid Caesar • Eddie Cantor • Jack Carter • Norm Crosby • Billy Crystal • Rodney Dangerfield • Larry David • Totie Fields • Brad Garrett • Gilbert Gottfried • Shecky Greene • Buddy Hackett • George Jessel • Andy Kaufman • Danny Kaye • Alan King • Robert Klein • Steve Landesberg • Fran Lebowitz • Jack E.
