barely 10 minutes into eurovision 2013 and already the prouction value is so much higher than the previous 3 years combined
the caterpillar travelling from Baku to Malmö 🥹, the Avicii + Benny & Bjorn composed choral anthem and first flag parade, Petra Mede, the butterfly graphics
the Swedes sure know how to do eurovision right

I am not Ukrainian and even though I suffer and get angry and worried every time ruzzians do something bad in Ukraine, which is on a daily basis, because they are monsters, my anger and pain and worry is nothing compared to what Ukrainians feel every second of their lives.
What they don't feel, on the contrary, but I feel very strongly, is shame. Because I feel ashamed every time some Italian ass*ole politician or so-called expert justifies ruzzia's terrorist actions. Or when them and their followers spread telegram based conspiracy bullshit where putin (with his buddy trump even) and ruzzia are the good guys or even victims.
I feel ashamed every time some leftist intellectual sympathizing with ex soviet union and claiming to know better than Eastern European countries that used to be a part of it, blames Nato or the USA for provoking ruzzia into a 'proxy war', completely deleting Ukrainian victims' suffering, or their brave fighters' heroic actions. Or when they call ruzzia's aggression of Ukraine 'conflict', not saying who's the invasor and who's the invaded side. Or when they turn their heads away from destroyed civilian structures, r*ped children, mass graves, and give their support to other causes, other countries, other oppressed populations, preferably that receive no support from the USA/Nato, even better if they oppose the USA/Nato& allies, even better if ruzzia has nothing to do with such 'conflicts' (it's more likely that they are involved but they don't know, as those ass*oles are everywhere).
I feel ashamed every time so-called pacifists whine that the real problem is 'weapons' and ask to stop sending weapons to Ukraine...as if by doing so, by preventing Ukraine from f*cking defending itself and its ppl, ruzzia would automatically stop as well...the same ruzzia that f*cking bombed Kyiv the day the UN secretary was there. Or whining to make peace pls, but only whining to Ukraine, never to f*cking ruzzia itself. Or wondering how they got to that point in 2022, how it's possible to have a war in Europe, not understanding whose fault it is, as if it wasn't clear that ruzzia invaded Crimea first, then Donbas and then went full out invasion of the whole Ukraine.
I feel ashamed every time some impartial or neutral individual feels sorry for Ukrainian ppl having to escape abroad to not be tortured, r*ped and killed by ruzzia's terrorist genocidal actions, but also for ruzzian men escaping mobilization, as if they weren't totally ok with war as long as they weren't forced to do it with their asses out of the sofa and in a tank. Or when NGOs that should be impartial are totally proruzzia instead, minimizing their crimes like IAEA, accusing Ukraine like Amnesty International, or, like Emergency, asking the Italian government to stop sending weapons to Ukraine "for peace", conveniently forgetting that if Ukraine stops fighting Ukraine won't exist anymore, while only if ruzzia stops fighting there will be peace.
The same Emergency, btw, that in 2018 was given the copyright of the song Non Mi Avete FAtto Niente by Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro.
Both singers disappointed me very much, saying very vague things against the war, not taking a clear position aganst ruzzia and supporting Ukraine, not getting involved in donation campaigns. And now not taking position against Emergency, which like Amnesty International took ruzzia's side with their affirmations. So now idk if they don't take position bc they want to be safe (in case ruzzia wins? it won't happen anyway. Are they afraid to go against the prorussia higher ups in media, and that this will f*ck their careers? Uhm...), bc they don't care, bc they think it's nato's fault and some more bullshit propaganda theories for intellectuals, bc they are a part of this fake 'pacifist' movement that is totally blind about how ruzzia is behaving and what is happening.
For me it's really shameful and disappointing to know that artists I used to follow, and one I still follow, aren't vocal about this horror. Especially since they wrote a song against terrorism and violence, exactly what ruzzia is doing in Ukraine. Especially since one talks about freedom so much, the same freedom Ukraine is fighting to have back.
For months I told myself that it was impossible that they were indifferent. That probably they were helping in private with donations. Because they are good people...but silence helps the aggressor, and talking about donations spreads awareness among fans, which leads to more donations. Every day I open their ig accounts and see if I missed something, if they said something, because every day something horrible happens in Ukraine and ppl die so if a celebrity just said one vague thing in February it's not enough, attention must be kept high always. But every day I see nothing.
The difference with Maneskin is evident. And I don't even care about Maneskin, but I appreciate their effort supporting Ukraine materially and morally, taking a clear stance and showing their fans where's the right side.
It's not just Meta and Moro, it's clever ppl like Max Gazzé, Daniele Silvestri, Carmen Consoli (who condemned a vague dictator, as if there is only one in the world right now), Paola Turci, Fiorella Mannoia (but she found the time to support Kurdish fighters which is very cool. and it would have been cool to also support Ukraine and condemn ruzzia). It's pretty much the 99% of the Italian music scene, as well as actors and the show business elite.
It's shameful and disappointing.

I have several thoughts about the voting scandal this year and the way the EBU handled it (which on the whole I mostly think they did well actually) but my main reaction to the news right now is that I'm glad and honestly a little impressed that even had the colluding votes not been removed the 10 finalists literally would not have changed!

The absurdity and stupidity of all shitflix cancelations lies in one simple question: How many of those canceled shows have you actually heard of before they got canceled?
- Warrior Nun - never heard of it until the moment I started seeing its fans spamming every shitflix post. And that was its second season. It had two seasons, for fucks sake, and most of us have never heard of it. You wanna know whose fault that is? Let me give you a hint. No, it's not the viewing numbers.
- First Kill (or whatever its name is) - Never heard of it until, once again, I saw people complaining about the cancelation under shitflix posts. Once again, guess whose fault that is.
- Santa Clarita Diet - Never heard of it. Didn't even know it was canceled until it made it to the list of pissed of people counting how many of them they axed. Whose fault is that?
- Inside Job - Yeah, never heard of it until it got canceled. Also, canceled after they renewed it. Shitflix: guess we changed our minds.
- Archive 81 - Heard of it when the cancelation was announced.
- The OA - Remember just hearing about it through the fog, even though it came out years ago.
- Sense 8 - know about it only thanks to fans' videos and fanart. I don't remember shitflix ever mentioning it.
- Lockwood & Co - I know about it thanks to fans spamming posts asking for renewal news.
And the list goes on with, I assume, shows I have never heard of.
I've never seen any of these shows, but my open wound is 1899 that I believe got treated the dirtiest of them all.
I have heard of it two years before the premiere, thanks to a 50 seconds long teaser that got me patiently waiting for years because it was my cup of tea. It came from the people who proved themselves before by creating a critically acclaimed show that you can find on a top 10 list of greatest shows of all time. Those people have spent years developing a new filming technique for shitflix. What a way to say thank you.
8 out of 10 people around me have seen 1899. Those people haven't even seen GoT or LotR for fucks sake, the most famous show and movie ever, but they have seen 1899. But not because shitflix promoted it, but because people did.
There was zero promotion, zero cast interviews, zero mentions after the release. It was still watched and talked about by so many people. It has more viewing hours than their hit shows running for 3+ seasons put together. It's a show you can't just binge and forget, you have to actually turn your fucking brain on. It was released in the most busy time of the year, during the damn World Cup and winter holidays. It was still number one for weeks. It was given less than 30 days. They decided to cancel it before it even premiered. They deleted the trailer with 10+ million views from YT.
The same goes with other shows. I have seen zero cast interviews, zero promotion or mentions by their own platform and they still have loyal fan bases that didn't stop talking about them.
But then you have dogshit shows like the Night agent that is getting hyped by shtflix every single fucking day. Fake numbers, pumped up to get people to watch a generic, a hundred times seen before, piece of crap. It got more hype than fucking GoT, and yet I know zero people who have actually watched it. Yep, there is no one I know, in real life or online, that has actually watched this show. So you figure it out.
People who have watched the shows I've mentioned probably have the statistics for them, and have probably seen the viewing hours being blamed for it, which was bullshit.
The latest nail in the coffin was Lockwood & Co. They kept fans waiting for months, and then they announced the cancelation during Eurovision so that fans wouldn't be able to go viral about it because everyone talked about fucking Eurovision.
Shitflix has canceled 26 sci-fi/fantasy shows in the last 3 years. 26! Do you all remember when we couldn't even name 26 shows of all genres put together, let alone watch them?
What all these shows had in common is that they were original and more or less unique and creative, not something you can find at least 6 copies of in either streaming or network TV.
It's like they created all these shows just so they can cancel them, because they are doing their best to actually burn every trace they ever existed.
Shitflix is killing creativity in every form, but in the end, that will be their undoing.

still on my eurovsion bullshit but this time with more hope
so idk I any of you remember how Lordi won in 2006? it was quite a huge thing. a real stepping stone in eurovision history.
next year contest was first so fun, diverse and probably the most unique there have ever been. we got so many bands, we got drag, we got rock, we got disco, we got artists who were having fun on stage, we got songs that were weird (affectionate), it was a year we got Verka, we got so many colors and experimental performances. everybody was stepping up their game because europe choosing Lordi previous year has proven that it's what people want and what eurovision should be about.
Käärija win could have the same effect. i know it would. but his impact on eurovision history is big enough. he got more love, support, new fans from across the world than most official winners. he also make finland really proud. and isn't this was real victory is all about?
changing voting system is still really important though. every year we have more new unique artist that are screwed over by jury and of course that can be discouraging. it's about having fun but it's also a competition.
tbh finland just know how to do it right. we should borrow their 25/75 voting system too. end of post.
tl;dr lordi had a huge impact on eurovision. next esc in 2007 was really fun and unique because of them. käärijä can have the same impact and inspire future esc performers but changing voting system is still important.

Final thoughts on the Grand Final before I'll shut up about Eurovision for the rest of the year...
Tumblr media
The Show
Gotta admit that I didn’t like it because I was hoping they’d be doing more to celebrate Ukraine since they actually won last year. It felt more like the Big UK Show and… yeah, that’s defo not what I tuned in for.
The Jury Votes
I do not understand how a small group of so-called experts can have so much power over the results. It shouldn’t be like that at all. Also: letting the juries place their votes before the actual final makes no sense to me. They should have to place their votes based on the actual final performance. Anything else is just bullshit.
The Official Winner
No surprise here, which is probably what disappointed me the most. I don’t think "Tattoo" is a bad song. It’s just one of those ESC entries that were purely designed to please the juries and I'm sorry, but Sweden does this pretty much every year and I’m tired of it. Like, maybe sticking to more or less the exact same formula for nearly a decade really is the key to success, but it’s also incredibly lazy imo.
I actually feel bad for Loreen, though, because none of this is her fault. Käärijä was clearly the public’s favorite and to know that you only won thanks to the juries who are famously - and rightfully - hated by the public must sting at least a little bit. (Sweden winning right on time for the ABBA anniversary thingy also seems suspiciously convenient, but I don't have the time or energy to go and make assumptions.)
The Real Winner
It’s the boy from Vantaa who cha cha cha’d too close to the sun. (Seriously, though: check out his other songs, he’s really good. And check out Finland, too! It's a beautiful country full of beautiful people who deserve way more credit than they usually get.) This dude has brought me such joy over the past few weeks, I'm genuinely heartbroken over the results. He and his team did their very best, but apparently the juries have zero tolerance for out-of-the-box thinking.
Käärijä won the public vote by a landslide and at the end of the day, that’s the only thing that truly matters, but still. Despite Ukraine’s win last year, rap is still painfully underrepresented in the contests and that’s a shame if you ask me. Like, there’s only so much jury-friendly pop I can take before my brain shuts off automatically.
Who Else Was Robbed
Austria, Moldova, LATVIA, and - and I can’t believe I’m actually writing this because I’m basically conditioned to hate my home country’s entries no matter what - Germany. I didn’t like "Blood & Glitter" as a song choice at all, but the stage-performance was solid. (Welp, at least we didn’t receive zero points this time.)
In Conclusion
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I do believe that Eurovision is completely ridiculous, but it’s also a great opportunity to explore European music and to get together with your friends and collectively yell at the TV in the middle of the night, which is always fun I guess. I had a lot of issues with this year's contest, so here’s hoping that the next one will be better and - most importantly - less predictable.

Haha can you imagine.
Inevitably, the official youtube channel is going to post the ‘top 20 most watched’ video for May and the first place is NOT going to be the winner of this year’s contest for like…the first time in history?
Truly grounbreaking.

What am I currently doing?
What am I even doing? Am I dead? Have I left the fandom?
The answers are writing, no and no.
The long answers are:
What am I doing?
First I collected all answers from the survey for the fanwriting of Sanders Sides Season 3 (aka Fanders Sides Season 3). I checked them all and planned what to do. I already wrote a post with all the details, so I won’t spoil too much here: everything will be explained in due time.
I also finished the analyses of the remaining episodes.
And in the last weeks, I’ve started writing Fanders Sides Season 3. Today I finished the first 9 episodes which ideally close my first “arc” of the season finale. One third (more or less) is done.
However, these things should still be reviewed and proofread and I can do it only after I finish writing the whole FSS3. So for now it’s just a good draft.
Am I dead?
Eurovision 2023 almost killed me and the aftermath left me crushed. It has been a couple of terrible weeks and I managed to get out of them, only after a while - and after the true winner got back on his feet.
In the meantime, my job contract ended and the company did not renew it. Why? Oh, no idea. They need a person and yet, they decided to fire one they spent 6 months training for that role. The bullshit they told me was “there is no money”, which is ridiculous coming from a growing gas and oil company.
The truth is probably that the heads of administration are complete idiots and have no idea about the situation. The place I worked for is a branch of the company and the administration center for the whole Italian division of said company.
When I started working there, the administration office was down to three people (they had retired) and they really, REALLY needed help. I did my best and, thanks to my and another person’s help, the workload was reduced.
So, since now things are somehow normal, they told me that hey, the problem is solved. Which proves they have no idea how an administration works, because reducing the workload now doesn’t mean the workload is reduced forever.
And even though they do not know that, my colleagues do. And they’re all pissed. They protested and did everything, so... who knows?
In the meantime, I decided to try another route, which means teaching. I am currently studying to take a few exams and, hopefully, get into a course. If a company calls me, I will ponder the decision, but in the meantime, I’m focusing on my studies.
And writing, of course. Always writing.
Heck, this sudden change in my life gave me somehow the idea I was looking for for 10 years. I don’t know how, but I just... thought about it, wrote down a couple of things and bam, in less than one hour I had a working plot. Just like that. As if I haven’t spent YEARS thinking about how to make that fucking plot work. But that’s another story I will probably explain one day.
Have I left the fandom?
Of course I haven’t left the fandom, I’m writing FSS3!
And even after that, I will still keep an eye on Sanders Sides, waiting for the faithful day in which Mr. Sanders will finally decide to work on the season 2 finale. I will post other stuff too and other analyses I’ve planned long ago, but one part of me will still wait for the next update.
However, since FSS3 might take a while, I would like to start posting the episode analyses. But I’m also on a writing spree for FSS3 and I don’t want to lose the momentum by shifting my attention to something else.
So the answer is that, for now, I probably won’t post anything. The analyses should be proofread first, but I’m writing now and I don’t want to lose the moment. I will keep going on with FSS3 until I’ve finished it, then I will start proofreading and once an analysis will be ready, I will post it.
So if you’re still following me, please wait a little bit longer. If I start something, I finish it. All you need is just a bit of patience.
In the meantime, of course, you can ask me for updates, details or anything else. It might take me some time to reply or I wouldn’t be able to tell you everything, but I will try my best as always.
And, of course, thank you all for your time and your patience 💖

United by music my ass
So the whole thing was a mess. My aftermath thoughts are these
UK made me nauseous for how much it overshadowed Ukraine again and again. And fun fact, this wasn't the first time a country couldn't host and UK in particular stepped in. Like, it happened multiple times before.
"Look at these cool Ukraine places you can't visit and then oh a British place you CAN visit!!!"
One question. During the entire thing, has any of the hosts said a few concrete ways people at home can help Ukraine? Said any association you could donate to? Gave phone numbers to call? Anything at all I may have missed? I mean there was time to include that lil 10 seconds ad about Moroccan oil or whatever before the start of the evenings.
I fucking KNEW they would have made someone sing Imagine. And that was nauseating in itself. Mahmood looked like he was dissociating for the whole thing tho lmao
Making an Israel old entry perform two seconds AFTER imagine? A... Choice.
Also a choice the enormous amount of points that the jury gave to Israel on a year that the winning country couldn't host because of the war affecting them.
And on that note, these couple years wasn't the first time Russia launched their ass in a fucking conflict with an European country. Hello? 2008 Russo-Georgian war? Georgia is 20% fucking occupied by Russia!
And in 2009 what did Eurovision do? Said that "We don't wanna Put in" entry by Georgia was too political!!! Hello?
So why, on earth, is Israel still allowed to participate? People talk shit about Australia not being in Europe but compared to Israel I'll fucking take the Aussies and I don't even particularly like them !! And why, on earth, they thought the unicorn song was decent?
Next point. Fucking. Jury. Votes.
Do you want to know as an example the average age of Italy's jury? When I read it on Twitter I didn't believe it so here's the math!
(70+ 55+60+64+37) ÷ 5 = 57
No comment.
"united by music" let's be real you're united by the money and having the 60th anniversary of Abba + a previous winner that was involved in the ost for Euphoria, a tv series that was a massive success, is easy marketing.
Onto the next point, way too many countries were robbed. Czechia? Slapped. Germany brought for once something to the table and still got less points than whatever TikTok bullshit UK had going on. Absolute robbery. Could it have more metal screaming? It can always have more metal screaming but it was still serving cunt.
I don't even wanna mention Croatia. I'm so tired of people that treat Eurovision like every other fucking song contest, WE DONT NEED STONED SIA, I was for two minutes on Twitter and god the takes on that app. Just shut it down already. "Honestly this year was underwhelming" girl go back buying polaroids of Jimin. This wasn't made for you.
Croatia is how you MAKE a song with a message relevant to the shit that's going on in europe. Switzerland is how you DONT. Croatia was fun, parodying, putting on an apparent nosense and punk old men in drag, and THATS how it's done, what do you guys want more? Croatia was an Eurovision entry
What about Czechia message then? One question: did it sound like a boring ballad that any random British singer could make? No. Did it sound powerful and recognizable, with an identity behind it? Yes.
Ukraine this year? The cyberpunk was county, amazing, but Eurovision material? No. I've loved Ukraine entries in the past because they sang in their own language, which is already a +1 point regardless, AND included folk elements in the song. That flute thing they always have going on is DELIGHTFUL and EATS UP every single time. I love Eurovision because it exposes me to different sounds, different ways of singing. This is why I liked Moldova this year!
Anyway that's about it.
