Top three songs from the Stoiže live album?
Okay okay let's go!
1. Barve Oceana
Listen I love that song. It was the soundtrack of my summer and every time I listen to it I get transported back to long car rides and sitting in the sun enjoying life. So definitely my number 1 here.
I can't actually say if I prefer this version over the studio version as I am so used to the studio one but they are definitely on par with each other!
2. Omamljeno Telo
This is probably my favourite Joker Out song (well I don't reeeeally have a favourite more like a top 3 I always listen to and refuse to rate) I love it because it feels more rock like than their other songs which makes it more unique in its own way. I absolutely love how you can hear the instruments in the live version that much clearer and you can feel that there are 12.000 people in the background having the time of their lives!
I honestly would've expected this to be my Nr 1 from the live album but Barve Oceana was a little bit more nostalgic to me in that sense :)
3. NGVOT
This actually surprised me! I really like NGVOT but it has never been a song I could listen the whole day to. I love the vibes, I love the lyrics and it is also in the category of 'Joker Out songs that remind me of summer' but it was never a top 3 song for me. UNTIL NOW! Kris' lyrics, his slightly shaky voice at the beginning and then gaining confidence, the switch to Bojan's vocals and THE INSTRUMENTS again! Just perfection. I really really prefer this over the studio version and not just because of Kris singing the first verse. It all just seems way more emotional and sincere (if that makes senses) on the live album.

Various thoughts on the Stožice album:
- Super impressed with how well they adapted to an arena show! The pacing and energy is fantastic (and so different from a smaller show)
- The brass! I love how much it adds. Especially in Ona!
- Synth(?) in Dopamin?! Loved it.
- For some reason I think Bojan really struggles with Demoni live. It's always a bit out of tune and missing some of the angst it needs. I think it's a combo of the vocals being much more exposed and slightly lower in his register. It's disappointing, since it's my favorite on the studio album.
- Fully the best version of Vem da greš I've heard.
- I love Jan's solo after Metulji. So many guitar solos are high energy and built to show off technically, and Jan just takes the opportunity to play with sound and bathe in it. Gorgeous.
- Best song for Jure: Katrina. He really controls the mood shifts over the whole song
Altogether a great choice for a live album. I've been through it twice already and will keep going!

Joker Out Masterpost for new fans
New fan of Joker Out? Say no more!
Getting to know a new artist you’ve found can be intimidating if it’s all in another language, so we’ve compiled some of our favourite interviews, articles and lore here! You’ve arrived in a wonderful fanbase, welcome from all of us here at JokerOutSubs!
If you’d just like a short overview of the band and their history, you can watch this excellent Finnish summary of them that we’ve translated (14m 53s).
youtube
But if you want to dive into the details, then check out our timeline, full of videos and articles translated by JokerOutSubs!
Timeline graphic:
Tumblr media
Timeline in details below the cut 👇
Timeline in details:
How did the band form?
Joker Out was formed from two bands, Apokalipsa and Buržuazija.
Apokalipsa included Bojan Cvjetićanin (vocals), Martin Jurkovič (bass) and Matic Kovačič (drums)
They gained some traction with young people around Slovenia, particularly with their song 'Mogoče' ('Maybe'), which you can watch on YouTube here.
They came to the attention of Kris Guštin, who was inspired to start learning guitar! He discusses the details in this video (at 9:40).
Kris then met Jan Peteh, another student of his guitar teacher, and at their teachers advice, they formed the band Buržuazija.
Bojan attended their second ever gig in 2016, and decided these two excellent guitarists were exactly what had been missing from Apokalipsa, as he wasn’t happy with their current guitarists. He asked them to join, and they accepted
The new lineup (Bojan, Jan, Kris, Martin and Matic) decided to rename themselves Joker Out. The name means nothing, but they thought it sounded good and was the ‘least horrible’ of all the ideas they could think of.
So, in 2016, Joker Out was officially formed!
November 2016, Kot srce ki kri poganja:
Joker Out’s first music video was for their song ‘Kot srce ki kri poganja’ ('Like a heart that pumps blood'), filmed in Jan’s hometown of Vrhnika! We eventually got this song on Spotify on their 2023 album Live from Arena Stožice!
Music video: Kot srce ki kri poganja
English Interview (from 3:37 to 6:05): Joker Out discusses filming the music video
June 2017, Špil Liga:
One of the earliest performances for Joker Out was at Špil Liga, a competition for young bands in Slovenia. They won, and recorded their winning song, Omamljeno telo (intoxicated body) in November as part of the prize.
Live (33m): Joker Out at Špil liga
Interview (5m): Reflections on Špil Liga in 2023
c.2017/18, Bojan’s attempt at going solo:
The band took a hiatus c.2017/18, and Bojan considered going solo at that time, even working with a few producers. He eventually realised that he belonged with the band! Hear him tell the story:
Reel (1m 23s): A1 Vajb - Bojan’s fail
2019, A change up for the band:
The band began working with their current producer, Žare Pak, and their videographer Mark Pirc, in 2019 - both of whom have been referred to as the sixth member of the band. This led to a change in their sound and production quality, which culminated in ‘Gola’ ('Naked'), the first of their songs to be a big hit!
Music video: Gola
Zlata piščal ('Golden Flute') - Best New Artist 2019:
Joker Out won their first Zlata piščal award in 2019, for best new artist (one of many they’d go on to win!) This is a kind of Slovenian Grammy! Covid interrupted the proceedings, but you can see their interview for it here (3m 59s)-
Interview: Joker Out wins a Zlata piščal ('Golden Flute') for Best New Artist 2019
Umazane misli, and a new member:
During the Covid times, the band began recording their first studio album, 'Umazane misli' ('Dirty thoughts'), which was originally going to be released in March 2020 but was repeatedly delayed until October 2021. The first half was recorded with drummer Matic Kovačič, but the band felt they needed something extra and brought in Jure Maček to help write the arrangements. They loved him so much, he never left!
Interview (from 10:40 to 11:36): Bojan talks briefly about Jure joining the band
COVID times, and Cvetličarna:
The band had arranged to do two concerts at Cvetličarna, a very important venue in Slovenia and a big break for them. This was delayed several times due to Covid, but eventually managed to go ahead in October 2021 for the release of their first album.
Video (1m 14s): Cvetličarna promotional video
Live (1h 28m): Joker Out at Cvetličarna
Interview (34m 55s): Bojan discusses Cvetličarna, its importance, and Covid
Umazane misli album launch:
'Umazane misli' was extremely well received! The band would go on to win two more Zlata piščal awards, Newcomers of the Year in 2020 and Artist of the Year in 2021.
Interview (37m 08s): Umazane misli album presentation
An acting career for Bojan?
Around the same time as 'Umazane misli' was released, Bojan began considering an acting career. He acted in two episodes of the series ‘Gospod Professor’ and in another series, which was eventually reworked as a film called ‘Kaj pa Ester’ and released in December 2023. He decided music was his passion though, and he wanted to fully focus on that.
Interview (from 10:04 to 11:30): Bojan discusses his acting career

September 2022, Križanke:
The band got straight to work writing their second album, 'Demoni' ('Demons'), and decided to present it in September 2022 at Križanke, another hugely important venue in Slovenia. This whole concert wasn’t recorded, but we have an interesting advertisement they did for it, an interview and a clip of one song live from Križanke!

Interview (2m 16s): Joker Out with parachutes to Križanke?
Live (4m 7s): 'Novi val' ('New wave') live at Križanke

Another new member!
After Križanke at the end of 2022, Martin Jurkovič, one of the founding members of the band, made the decision to leave to focus on his studies.
Video (2m 20s): Martin's departure
Thankfully, he was replaced by the wonderful Nace Jordan, who remains the bassist in the current lineup.

2023, Eurovision:
Joker Out were then internally selected to go to Eurovision 2023, and began recording their Eurovision song, 'Carpe Diem', in Hamburg in December 2022. To learn more, you can watch the Carpe Diem series, a documentary series which followed their entire journey.
The first episode, recording Carpe Diem, can be found with subtitles in multiple languages by JokerOutSubs!

They also released their next English single, 'Everybody’s Waiting', in February.

Umazane Misli
"Sanje so tvojega okusa Jutro po tebi mi diši Kompas več me ne posluša Moja izgubljena duša Išče le v smeri kjer si ti"
Synopsis: Jure helps Kris moving into Bojan's apartment and he finally asks the question that has been on his mind for a while....
Thank you @illbringyousolace for the proofreading on this one!
Disclaimer: Please think of these as characters and not the actual people. I don’t encourage anyone to send this to any of the actual JO members nor do I encourage people to force any type of relationship between anyone.
After the Stožice concert, their vacation, and the first leg of the winter tour, everything seemed to be about London. The band was going to live there for a couple of months in Žare's apartment to get some inspiration for the new album.
There's one thing Jure has noticed ever since Stožice: Bojan and Kris have been closer than ever. So, it was no surprise to the band when they announced they'd start living together to avoid paying more rent - Martin wasn't at his and Bojan's flat most of the time and Nace was no longer living near Kris either. What did surprise Jure when helping out Kris moving in with the singer was the occasional glances between the two, the small and not-so-small touches they'd exchange, the words of affection and small teases said out loud and the ones left unspoken. He hadn't noticed it until then, but they seemed to act like two high school sweethearts.
- Thanks, Jure! - Bojan hugged him - Princess over here would have taken so much longer without your help!
Kris rolled his eyes and then winked at Bojan.
- That's because you didn't get your ass up to help. - Kris riposted as he sat down on the sofa.
- I'd rather see your ass going up and down the stairs, your majesty. - the smaller one replied, earning a kiss blown at him by Kris.
- But thank you, Maček. - Kris turned his attention back to Jure - How can we pay you? Do you want to stay for dinner?
- No, no, I'm good. Also, I have plans for tonight.
Kris nodded, waiting to hear more from the drummer, but he didn't want to elaborate more. Usually, his plans meant hooking up with a girl, so it’s not like there was much to elaborate on.
- Can I just ask one question? - Jure asked.
- Sure. - the singer sat down next to the guitarist who put his arm on top of him.
They both watched as Jure walked around and tried to come up with the right words to say. Eventually, he decided to sit down in front of the two.
- What happened? - he said.
- What? - Kris' face contorted at the question, not quite sure what to make of it.
- I mean... - Jure sighed - After Stožice things have felt... Different. What I mean is... What's up with the two of you? Or, between you.
None of them said a word, they only glanced at each other as two children who got caught stealing cookies from the sewing kit.
- Kris, in Thailand you were always texting Bojan even though you said you were going to enjoy being far away from him for a couple of weeks. You even went as far as leaving us to go to your room and talk to Bojan on the phone.
Once again, more guilty looks and a slight blush crept into Kris' checks.
- Th-that's... - he tried to defend himself, but his voice came out slightly higher pitch than he expected so he left the words unspoken.
- Bojan, ever since we returned to touring you are all hands at Kris and even asking him to sit on you when he has plenty of room to sit somewhere else.
- Well, maybe I just like Kris' ass on my thighs. - he smirked.
- BOJAN! - the younger one tried to scold him, but the other couldn't help but laugh.
- Sorry, sorry, but come on, they'd know sooner or later.
Jure's eyes opened wide open, and Kris started fidgeting with his sweater's sleeves and whispering something.
- I was hoping it'd be later...
- When? When we marry and have kids?
- Oh, shut up!
- So, it's true? - Jure interrupted the love birds.
- Yeah, Kris and I are together. - Bojan replied to the curious kitty - Since October.
- Figured.
Jure sighed. Now he knows.
His face quickly shifted from relieved to sad and that got an eyebrow raise from Kris.
- I'm sorry we didn't tell you sooner. I mean... We didn't tell anyone.
- Oh, I did. My parents are already waiting for me to marry you.
- Oh god, Bojan, stop telling people we are together. It has only been one month!
- For them, it has been almost 9 years. Also, don't lie to me because Maks told me you told everyone at dinner about us before going to Thailand.
- Guys, it's okay. I assume neither Jan nor Nace knows about it? - Jure imposed the question.
- No, they don't, though I guess we can tell them now.
With no hesitation, Bojan took his phone out, and suddenly, both Jure and Kris' pockets made a sound. Jure picked up his phone.
Cvjet: Me and Kris have been fucking
- What the fuck, Bojan. - Jure laughed.
- We are not just fucking. – Kris pulled him by his ear.
Another sound came in.
Jonh: Yeah, we know
And one last sound.
Nacko: We heard you...
Jure was ready to set his phone aside, but as Kris read the messages, he began typing:
Krisko: when? Jonh: bus Nacko: Also, in Thailand, I tried to check on you when you left suddenly once Nacko: I never did it again Jonh: oh yeah, that too Jonh: the phone sex was good, uh
Jure glanced over at Kris and saw him with his hands on his head, clearly losing his sanity. Bojan was amused. The guitarist groaned out words of frustration and the singer called him all sorts of pet names as he rubbed his hands on his back.
- Well, I should get going... - Jure announced as he got up -, You guys have to... Not even talk, just have fun and stay safe, I guess.
- MAČEK! – Kris yelled in a last effort to control the situation, but it was too late because the blond cat had already left the apartment.
- I mean... we could have fun. – Bojan whispered to Kris after the door shut.
- I’m way too tired, Cvjetićanin.
They decided that they’d just sleep next to each other to commemorate Kris’ arrival.
When Bojan woke up, he took advantage of the fact that the window shutter didn’t close completely to gaze at Kris’ hair illuminated by small squares of light coming through it. His lover shined like a golden mosaic, and he wanted to melt at the sight of it.
He stroked his hair and while he ran his fingers through the small forming curls, he got closer. Bojan tilted his head to the side a little, feeling the other’s breath into his nose through his own. He looked up to see Kris, who opened his eyes slowly, and the blue ocean that he saw in him was telling him to proceed. Bojan smiled and kissed him.
Sometimes, Bojan would do that. Sometimes Bojan would kiss that gently after asking for his permission first. It was intimate, but it was their own way of telling each other “I love you” without using the words.
- The morning smells like you. – Bojan told Kris before the taller one grabbed him closer and pulled him onto his chest, giving him all the kisses he could before fully waking up.
♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩♫♩
Now I have to finish writting the story that ties in all my short stories... dear lord. Wish me luck
