🏦 Georgia Strait 🏪  The amazing approach to Downtown Vancouver after leaving the Stanley Park Causeway. This stretch of road is part of Hwy 99 which leads you south to the International Border with the USA, then turns into Interstate 5 (I-5) and continues south until you hit the International Border with Mexico. . Looking southeast, straight down West Georgia Street which is straddled by two of Vancouver’s tallest buildings, the Paradox Hotel and the Shangri-La Hotel. . Georgia Street was named in 1886 by a Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) surveyor named Lauchlan Alexander Hamilton. He mapped out most of Vancouver and named this street after the Strait of Georgia (Salish Sea). . This was one of the many moments of our round the world adventures where we realized we had traveled far and into lands never roamed by those we know. Overlooking the Strait of Georgia and about to embark on our second ferry ride in the opposite direction to the mainland Canada everybody knew, we felt it here, we were lifetimes away from familiar lands. Sailboat in the Gulf Island, Strait of Georgia, BC

Feeling minimal and naturey today. The gulf islands are magical as hell to drift through, they’re the perfect size to make you want to hop off the boat and explore them all. Some are squat outcroppings with scraggly brush that wouldn’t hold more than a tent. Others sprawl for acres, overgrown with tall grass and douglas firs, and vibrant orange-red arbutus trees twisting like antlers off the rocks. I almost wish I had some to show you!
