My ctenanthe lubbersina got spider mites out of nowhere a few weeks ago. I had to treat it pretty aggressively since the plant was so big, but I think it's also finally freaking out about being a fully grown 2 foot tall plant in a maybe 6 inch pot along with all the other stressors of being in plant quarantine. The only reason I didn't re pot it immediately was because I could not for the life of me figure out if ctenanthes are like other plants in the maranticae family and want to be in fairly shallow pots or not. Finally found a post that specifies an adult plants will want a 12 inch pot, and while it doesn't mention depth I think I'll still go fairly shallow just to avoid a lot of extra water sitting around causing root rot.
Anyways! I'm almost done treating it! Turns out the method where you just chuck the whole plant in the shower a few times is way more effective than an isopropyl/neem oil spray. At least at this size. I'm excited to finally have this guy back in my room and in a nice new pot!

here's my obligatory "i swear i'm not dead yet!!!" post for 2024! i'll finally be DONE FOREVER with college this june, which means i can go back to my hobbies again (sims included).
last time i made something was last september (yikes). i'm probably very rusty but i've also learned a lot of cool stuff in blender these past few months which i hope i can use in my future creations :-)
as for my plants........ well lol. all i have left are:
Aloe Vera
Maranta Leuconeura
Philodendron Pink Princess (the only one from my first batch of plants that survived lol)
Philodendron Pink Princess Marble (lots of pink! i like it better than the regular ppp since the variegation is very stable and all leaves got pink in them)
Pothos Marble Queen (this one got huge!)
Pothos N'joy
on the bright side they are all doing great since i've finally found the secret to keeping plants alive: ignoring them as much as possible lol. now i see i killed most of my plats by overwatering and over fertilizing. and as much as i love them i'm also staying away from delicate plants like calatheas bc my city's weather is just not good for them.
here's a list of all the plants i killed in 2022-2023:
Stromanthe Sanguinea Triostar (this one HURT SO MUCH omg)
Stromanthe Sanguinea
Philodendron Pink Princess 2.0
Calathea White Fusion
Tradescantia Fluminensis Tricolor
Aglaonema China Red
Calathea Ornata
that's all lol... see u soon! <3

Stromanthe Triostar Plant | Green Ozean
Stromanthe Triostar develops best under backhanded light, so setting your plant in a warm, sufficiently bright spot is ideal. Never put your Stromanthe Triostar under direct daylight. Keep the dirt marginally sodden, yet all the same not spongy. Water your Stromanthe Triostar when the top inch of the dirt is dry.Your Stromanthe Triostar lean towards a sufficiently bright spot with brilliant, backhanded light. However it can endure lower levels of light, the brilliant variegation will blur. Keep away from direct daylight which can consume the leaves. The triostar stromanthe (Stromanthe sanguinea) has amazing, full variegate foliage with lively shades of pink. It tends to be filled outside in blistering and muggy environments, however it truly does best well inside and is all the more regularly developed as a house plant.

This Stromanthe Sanguinea "Triostar" (not to be confused with the less variegated Stromanthe Sanguinea "Magic Star") is by far my favourite houseplant. Partly because of the amazing pink and white variegation and partly because of how i got it. My girlfriend knew i was looking for one without luck and found me it as a surprise :')
Some people have trouble with Stromanthe and Calathea's because they require high humidity, but a good tip to address that is to move them to the bathroom! Thats where this lady lives (though not in the bathtub, shes just being watered).

April Plant Challenge Day 17 aka Day 2 for me: Favourite Foliage
Now I simply couldn’t pick just one, so here are my fave four!
1. Ctenanthe Burle Marxii
2. Alocasia Polly
3. Cordyline Fructosia Mambo
4. Stromanthe Triostar (sanguinea)
In general I can’t resist green/white, green/pink and all black foliage!

Didn't plan to buy any plants at the garden center except for maybe a mini Stromanthe 'triostar', buuuut they had a regular Stromanthe sanguinea and a 'Pearls and Jade' pothos, which I'd both never seen in a store before. Then the little 'brasil' Philodendron wanted to fill out the one I already have (it looks a little sad and thin, just starting to regrow right now, so it could use some support) and the 'micans' was discounted by half and I thought it looked pretty on the cute little trellis, soooo yeah. New plant frens!! 😇

this is a very lovely stromanthe triostar (or stromanthe sanguinea). I got her while on a road trip to eureka with close friends. the little nursery she came from is so lovely and bursting with plant life. I remember visiting them when they first opened last year. coming back a year later to see them grow so much made me very happy! Tropical plants are a little tricky for me so I hope she’s happy in her new home :)

Plant Journey: Month #1
I thought it would be fun (for me lol) to make monthly update about my plants and see how they thrive (or wither sksksksks) throught time. All my plants except for one are babies so they are still quite small!
Feel free to block the “plant update” tag!
Current care routine: watering once every 8 - 10 days. I add a few drops of a very gentle fertilizer since most of the plants are still showing signs of growth even tho we’re getting closer to winter now. I either take them to the bathroom with me while I’m taking a shower or mist them every few days to give them some humidity.
Plagues: A few fungus gnats, but they seem to be gone after a neem oil treatment. They came with one of the plants. 😒
Philodendron Pink Princess
Aka the one I wanted to love the most but that ended up disappointing me lol. She’s so UGLY!!! Right now it’s far from being pink but I have hope!! Shit, I even got a growing light just for her lmao. Since she got here she grew a new leaf (which is still tender) and seems to be in the early stage of growing another one so we shall see!
Tumblr media
Stromanthe Sanguinea
Aka the one that was being sold as a “triostar” but then it arrived and it was clearly not lol (when I contacted the store they just claimed I got one with very little variegation which is not true but at least I got a refund). It’s not a plant I would have bought on my own but now that it’s here I can see it’s really pretty and it’ll look amazing once it gets bigger and fuller! Doesn’t seem to be growing any new leaves yet tho. Just chilling.

Stromanthe Sanguinea “Triostar”
Listen... I love her. She’s a star. 12/10. Most gorgeous plant ever. Got lots of new leaves growing and it’s already pretty big! If it dies I’ll die too!!!
Tumblr media
Aglaonema China Red
I feel kinda bad for her bc it’s the one I pay less attention to asdfgdsa but she’s doing great on her own? She came with a purple leaf that just... fell off. She said “bye!”, detached herself from the plant and died just a few days after arriving 💀 there’s a new leaf coming in so I forgive her!!
Tumblr media
Calathea Ornata (???)
I’m not so sure what this one is since I got it today as an unexpected gift with an order I made but it’s cool! Very small, looks in good shape besides some crispy leaves lol.
Tumblr media
Maranta Leuconeura and Aloe Vera: Coming soon, still waiting for them to arrive!
See ya next month!

I'm really bad at keeping non vining plants alive... It's a curse. But I've had this one for a year now! She leans toward the sun... But I don't have many options for placement since my cat eats everything he can get to (all of my plants sit behind glass) but it's growing and the colors are vibrant so I think it's doing ok!
