preston garvey is such an og bro, and yes for all the reasons you're thinking of but also because like, he literally led a whole group of people from Quincy to Jamaica Plain!! AND THEN ACROSS THE CHARLES RIVER TO LEXINGTON AND THEEN EVEN FURTHER UP NORTH TO CONCORD.

he was watching out for this group of people who had just been run out of their homes. he stayed with these refugees throughout every disastrous place they thought they'd be safe, every death, and just all that grieving; all while struggling with his own sense of purpose ("Everything I believed in had turned out to be a lie.") and feelings of being a failure, that led him to thinking he'd be better off dead :( plus, these people from Quincy were strangers to him at first. he didn't have to do all that, yet he took it upon himself to do so. because he's just built that way. he's too good for the damn wasteland. </3

and like even after all of that, he doesn't hang the Minuteman hat up. he keeps on going, pushing the boulder up the hill in hope of making the Commonwealth a better and safer place.

Cassie's Comforting Mac'n'cheese

Ingredients:

1 can of Spam original

1/3 brick of Velveeta

1 box pasta shells

Splash milk (any)

Cube and fry spam, set aside. Cook pasta according to box or to taste, mix in 1/3 brick Velveeta while still hot. Stir vigorously. Add milk until desired thickness. Mix in fried spam. Consume.

For added nostalgia, pair with a glass of tang.

I love how if the sole survivor says “why can’t he (sturges) do it?” When Preston asks you to get the mini gun and go ham, Preston will say something to the effect of “Sturges is big, but he’s not much help in a fight.”

Okay but we know Sturges went poking around in that data from the network scanner holotape, right? How else would he have found a back door into the Institute?

Do you think he found the list of missing synths, too?

And do you think he got a little too curious about one of them, and opened the file?

And do you think… he perhaps had an identity crisis?

If you use console commands to kill him, he drops a synth component. In Fallout Shelter Online, which is beta-level canon but still relevant to me, he has the Synth trait and is listed as a Gen 3 that does not know his origins… Like Danse before Blind Betrayal.

His old man taught him everything he knows…but he never had an old man. If his whole life is a lie… What now?

Argument for Railroad:

I don’t think there are any other references to the Institute giving synths fake memories.

There’s no discernible motive for letting loose a synth who doesn’t know he’s a synth in the Capital Wasteland.

The Railroad is operating in the Capital by 2277.

Argument for Institute:

The Institute has never had a discernible motive for anything, ever

Danse says his memories came from the Institute.

The Railroad seems to prefer “fun fake memories” to boring, lonely, homeless childhoods.

It’s sad and messed up that Danse still supports killing the Railroad if they saved him. This isn’t really evidence, but it’s true. (I guess narrative coherence is a type of evidence, but then again so is cruel irony.)
