Well, it's definitely been a hot minute since our last official post for the Scott Summers Bingo, but holidays and life and stresses have kept us hopping (or hiding if we had half a second to breathe), so we haven't done as many updates as we should have. FESTIVAL OF THE TWO SISTERS.

I remember back in mid 2011, I'd recently finished watching Season One, and finally joined the fandom. The energy I found here was absolutely insane. Joyous absurdity. Manic glee.

In mid June, Equestria Daily announced a flag-designing contest to celebrate the upcoming Summer Sun Celebration - the very first that our fandom spent together. I found the very idea absolutely entrancing - that we might find a way to celebrate pony holidays - to import Equestrian culture into our own.

None of the flags from that contest ever took off. We, as a fandom, never really agreed upon any Summer Sun Celebration traditions either. In fact, I'm not sure that that single EqD post made much of an impression at all - at least not big enough that people other than me would be talking about it twelve years later.

But I loved the idea of taking the joy we feel from the show - from Equestria - and letting it manifest in our actual lives. I love that, since 2011, it's inspired so much charity work - that we have made a real impact in people's lives. I love the fact that there's a Bronies for Good pin currently in Antarctica because a member of the scientific expedition was a fan. I love that there's currently a piece of circuitry with Princess Celestia engraved upon it aboard the International Space Station because some random engineer was a crazed fan.

I love that we all took it upon ourselves to engage in passionate world building - to develop our own visions of a broader Equestria faster than the show itself could. I love that something like Fallout: Equestria could grow a fandom of its own - bigger than the fandoms of most professionally produced and marketed TV shows.

Yesterday would have been our thirteenth Summer Sun Celebration as a community of fans. But it wasn't.

The Summer Sun Celebration is canonically no more. It's easy for me to forget this because the celebration was such a huge part of early Equestrian lore, and because I have not, until recently, rewatched any of Season 9, but Twilight actually did away with the SSC.

Under her reign, they celebrate the Festival of the Two Sisters instead.

The more I think about this, the more I love it. We on Earth don't have physical horse princesses that we can gather round and watch as they magically raise the Sun and Moon. We can't hear their speeches, or bask in their presence, (apart of course from the light of the heavenly bodies that they represent). But we do have what Equestria has after Twilight took power - the fond memory of a bygone epoch, and a chance to celebrate the impact that they made in our lives. The home they made in our hearts.

👻 What is your wildest headcanon? Round 3 of this question!! I'm really boring, lovelies, my headcanons aren't that wild in general. Like I try to be very reasonable about what makes sense to extrapolate from canon material. //spins the wheel// May I interest you in the headcanon that (novel) Mianmian is from the Laoling Qin sect? 1. In a sect big enough to be worth taking disciples hostage during Evil Summer Camp. 2. Regarded well enough to have a seat at the Midnight Meeting to complain about (in her case, defend) WWX. Possibly meaning she was in the SSC too, during which Qin Su was known to be rescued by JGY (who now does the seating arrangements). 3. Though Qin Su's mother had her maid Bicao, (Watsonian observation) Qin Su has no maid by the time we see her, which coincidently is also after Mianmian has already left her sect. 🔍 Is any of this related? Who knows!

He was mad you didn't show up though. Madder still when I made excuses for you. Just like his father, right? I can't catch a break."  "It's your fault because you won't just suck it up and talk to a-Jiě. What the fuck is wrong with you Wèi Wúxiàn?" Seriously.... SERIOUSLY!  For the first time since Wèi Wúxiàn trapezed back into Jiāng Chéng's life, he didn't have enough face to take the shame. All the light goes out him, and the bruises under his eyes become pronounced. "How would you tell her you never called because you knew she would talk you into returning?"  He feels glued to the ground. He feels like he's become a pillar holding up all the world. He can barely move, but what he can manage means he's straightening the cuff of his right sleeve. It's not a nervous tick. It isn't.  He has jaw pain trying to make the words leave his tongue and get past his teeth. "I would have let her. I would not have left."

I think in the beginning of season 1 william saw Dakota as this breakable person, someone who would always be there and was a true hero. He’s always admired Dakota from the start. And some of this hasn’t changed; william still thinks Dakotas the strongest of them all and is the greatest hero. However I think a major shifting point for Williams view on Dakota was episode 13 of season 1 where Dakota nearly died because of the sword through the torso. William audibly is choked up during this scene and is the most obviously worried one out of all of them (s1 ep19 parallels). I think it’s at this point that William sees Dakota as more “human”. Although he’s still one of the toughest and strongest people he knows, Dakota still has weaknesses and can die just like the rest of them. And even more so than that was the new growing fear of losing Dakota. After the timeskip William makes it clear how much he fears losing Dakota again. To quote William from s2 ep1, “The only reason I ever even thought about getting stronger, or whatever that means, was because I met [Dakota]”. “…’cause I don’t wanna lose you for, well, I mean, ever again. We’re what we’ve got.” It all makes me wonder how William coped after Dakota disappeared for ten months with only a note left behind. And it makes me wonder what Williams full thoughts were when he said that him and Dakota eventually falling out “bound to happen”. How much has he thought about it? Was he just uselessly clinging to the friendship they still had with the impending doom caused by their differing morals hanging above them? How the fuck is episode 34 going to go??? More “Feelys” to quote the editor???? Would Dakota pick his best friend over his morals????? What if I literally ate drywall

Honestly I want bitter fighting. I want Dakota to be so frustrated and confused and angry and disappointed and I hope their fight draws blood (metaphorically or physically) and I hope I throw up and die and voluntarily become the joker. I also hope Dakota looks in Williams eye and can’t see how the person who fought so hard for Dakota to live and stay by his side is the same one who would lie and kill someone. Or maybe Dakota does look at William and can’t help but still see the awkward teenager who would hide behind his back like a shield, then the person who grew into wanting to protect him in return, the person who has put his moral faith into him and only him, the person who fucking sucks ass at driving, the person who would do anything for him, the person he trusts so so much, William Wisp.

Really all roads lead to tragedy. Maybe william knew this, and maybe that’s what he meant by it being “bound to happen”. Dakota chooses to leave William and/or turn him into the authorities? Classic tragedy. They’d be leaving behind everything that they made each other, which not only includes the heart transfer, but the way they grew because they inspired one another. William and Dakota have this reoccurring thing where they say they’re proud of each other, originating all the way back from s1. and although it’s kinda silly, even Dave and sweet summer child William from the rolleds are constantly saying how they wish to be like the other one day. It might not mean anything about og ghostkicks, but I believe since it’s still alternations of themselves that it’s worth mentioning. Dakota and William are practically parts of each other. they’re almost the definition of “paired package do not separate” with how they always end up together no matter what universe or alteration of themselves there are. (See ssc William and Dave, William Wight and Kota Kill [they have a whole thing going on it’s not healthy but I support it])

Now if Dakota chooses to stay with William? Still a tragedy in that Dakota would be sacrificing his morals and the standards that he holds himself to. And William would have to live with what he became, forcing his own friend to temporarily give up a part of his ideals from what he did, compromising far more for him than what either of them usually do. Because In Dakota’s hero way of seeing things, William should be locked up or at least put onto trial. He literally killed someone (even if it was accidental), unknowingly attempted murder on three more people, assisted in unauthorized and unconsensual surgery, and mentally tormented someone (David and X) twice. Now I’m no expert in law, but I know all of this breaks a LOT of them. As of right now, Dakota doesn’t know all of what William has done. but I doubt William would be able or willing to lie to him more in ep 34. I’m just really excited for July 1st

Every once in a while, I look through my old notes to see what dormant WIPs I've got lying around, and apparently I was at one point working on a story where TV Matt Murdock and comics Scott Summers (who have just an absurd amount in common and I just know would hit it off) meet, bond, and start experimenting with BDSM together, taking turns playing Dom and generally having fun. And occasionally fighting Daredevil-level street crime together.

Anyway, in one scene, Scott mentions the research on BDSM he's been doing. Matt laughs and asks if he really thinks watching porn is research. And Scott chastises that porn is terrible for research on legitimate sexual practices, especially regarding SSC BDSM. People do still write books.

I told myself i wanted to list out all of my major accomplishments this year to build some confidence in myself and drown out that little voice that always tells me i’m not good enough— It’s been a hard fucking year with a bitter end, but I have hope that after I move & recover from top surgery, my life will be better than ever. On the eve of the 1000th Summer Sun Celebration (SSC), Twilight is reading the tale of the Alicorn Sisters. The term "Elements of harmony" reminding her of something, she decides to make some research, despite being on break. She declines the invitation to Moondancer's get-together and also stops Spike to go to have his help. The elements are directly refered to the prophecy of the Mare on the Moon. Reading it, she realise that Nightmare Moon return will arrive this SSC. But, as she tries to warn Princess Celestia, her mentor tells her to get out of her books and asks her to check on the preparation for the SSC in Ponyville, advising her to use the occasion to make some friends. Disgruntled, Twilight plans to check the preparation and use the rest of the day to prove her theory to her mentor. She begins by meeting Pinkie Pie who immediatly runs off to prepare a surprise party for her. After, she met Applejack who immediatly present to her her family (far more than the futur usual of Granny Smith, Applebloom and Big Mac) and makes her try a lot of food. Checking the weather, Rainbow crashes into her while training to try and get seen by the wonderbolt instead of taking care of the clouds. She tricks her into immediatly clearing the sky by challenging her into doing it in 10s. After, she meets Rarity (to check on decorations) who, seeing the state of her mane, takes her for a makeover session and mention wanting to live in Canterlot. Then, wanting to check on music, she meets Fluttershy who is in the shy mode until seeing Spike, notably mentionning not knowing that dragons could talk. Finally, after saying that Spike should go to bed to stop them from talking, Twilight goes in the library where she gets caught in Pinkie's party which last until the day of the Summer Sun Celebration. Going to the celebration, Celestia doesn't appear and instead, Nightmare Moon arrives.... Interesting point to think about : - Bigger Apple family at Ponyville -Twilight is on break but goes on a mission for Celestia -Rainbow was alone for weather control -Ponies stays awake the eve of the Summer Sun Celebration and the tale is clear that Luna was sad people weren't awake to enjoy her night. -Dragon's ability to talk isn't a basic known fact for ponies Issues with the episode : - Spike situation (Pet? Assistant? Brother?) -Why Ponyville? Simply the proximity with the Castle of Two Sisters? -Why send only Twilight, with work, instead of inviting her and her classmates (possibly even still with the work to do to force her to interact with them)? New report highlights opportunities for conservation of ladybirds globally

A report into the global status of ladybirds reveals the threats they face and lays out a roadmap for conservation. These vital pest controllers for farmers and gardeners are considered to be in decline globally due to human activities, and species are poorly understood.

The survey’s authors call for greater citizen science efforts to encourage more people to record ladybirds around the world. They also urge conservation efforts to protect habitats, in particular the sites that ladybirds rely on to survive the adverse conditions of winters.

The research was compiled by an international group of experts, including ecologists at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, the University of the Azores and Ghent University, as well as all members of the IUCN SSC Ladybird Specialist Group. It identifies gaps in knowledge about how ladybirds are responding to environmental changes affecting global biodiversity while suggesting actions to protect ladybirds and other insects.

The ladybird family — Coccinellidae — includes more than 6,000 species globally with 47 found in the UK. Many species of ladybird play an important role in protecting plants — including crops — from the ravages of pest insects including aphids. There is considerable concern that insects, including ladybirds, globally may be in decline, but information is lacking to assess the magnitude of the problems caused by threats such as changes in climate, land use and pollution, and invasive non-native species.

I hope we can enthuse more researchers to become involved in studying ladybirds and assessing the ecological threats that impact their diversity and abundance.”

In recent years people have taken actions to manage their gardens to provide habitats for bees through bee homes and campaigns such as “no mow May” to increase the abundance of flowering plants which provide an important resource for pollinators. These benefit other insects such as ladybirds, but there are simple measures that people can also implement to further increase the value of their gardens for a diverse range of insects. Actions include ensuring there are flowers to provide nectar throughout insects’ active period, in spring and summer, and leaving pest species on roses and vegetables as a food source for predatory ladybirds. Leaves left on the ground in autumn provide overwintering habitat.

Professor Helen Roy, an ecologist at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and one of the paper’s authors, says: “Over the last few decades we have seen more and more people getting involved with ladybird surveys contributing their sightings of ladybirds through citizen science initiatives around the world. In this exciting new paper we explore ways that everyone can make a difference and contribute to the conservation of ladybirds and other insects.”

As well as public involvement, the research highlights how environmental change is impacting ladybirds and focuses on addressing ways to counter the ongoing threats faced by ladybirds.

In the paper, published in Conservation Biology, the team has laid out a roadmap with short-, medium- and long-term actions that are needed for ladybird conservation and recovery. These actions include:

Recruiting citizen scientists for data collection and observations, education programmes and conservation efforts

Enhancing agricultural landscapes by creating insect-friendly habitats

Education programmes to target different audiences

Introducing machine learning to support long-term monitoring, for example using cameras coupled with deep learning software to monitor insects

Bringing together national monitoring systems globally

Professor Roy adds: “Ladybirds are well-loved, charismatic insects but we know so little about them. This paper brings together a global team and sets out ways that we can safeguard the future of these amazing beetles. It is critical that we consider the multiple drivers of environmental change together and increase our understanding of the ways in which climate change, land-use change and biological invasions interact with one another. We need to act fast and act together.”
