Gratitude opens your heart and allows you to receive. Receive what, you might ask? Grace, higher levels of information, peace, even abundance. Being grateful for the obvious gifts and blessings in your life is easy. When was the last time you were grateful for something painful or unwanted?

 

When presented with yet another instance of a recurring pattern in your life, instead of being annoyed or looking for someone to blame, make a conscious choice to be grateful for the opportunity to break this pattern in your life. You may have to create an affirmation to that effect, at first, in order to ingrain that thought into your psyche. Once it is ingrained, however, you may very well find that the solution to the “problem” comes to you spontaneously.

When presented with something that grates on your last nerve, instead of lashing out or running away or even just resisting the situation, make a conscious choice to be grateful for the opportunity to grow. Again, an affirmation may be necessary, but you may find that, with judicious application of the affirmation, your feelings about the situation will shift and everything will become easier.

A family is supposed to cushion and protect its members as they learn life skills. A community is supposed to cushion and protect the family unity so that it can do its job. Sometimes the families we are born into fail to provide the appropriate support; once we become adults, however, we can choose new families, both official and unofficial. And we certainly have a say in what sort of community we are a part of.

 

Who fills the role of family in your life today? Do they cushion you and support your growth? Do you cushion and support them on their life’s path?

How do you define your community? What are its components? Does your community cushion and support your family unit, both official and unofficial?

If you are dissatisfied with your answers, what are you going to do to create positive change? Sometimes the answer is simply to be more supportive yourself; it’s amazing how changing our own approach changes the approach of those around us.
