New ideas are the manifestation of inspiration. Inspiration is being in conscious contact with the Divine. So new ideas are to be sought out and watched for whenever possible. It is the heart of the practice of mindfulness.

Don’t shy away from new things. Examine them, allow yourself to be curious. Allow for new and different possibilities.

This is not to say that you shouldn't be cautious and keep yourself physically safe. Just don't close out new ideas. There's a difference.

It is important that you know yourself. While it is not useful to get caught up in a hamster wheel of self-questioning, finding out where your fears come from and what your motivations are can help you grow. Make a list of your fears; all of them, even the ones you would never tell someone else about. Everything from fear of the dark to spiders to heights to men with beards to abandonment to being wrong to not being enough.

Where does each of these come from? What have you allowed to reinforce those fears? What do those fears tell you? How do those fears affect you on a daily basis? How do you exhibit your fears?

Your fears contain information about your sense of serenity, your sense of peace, and your sense of ease. So, what are you going to do with the information you have uncovered?
