Things have finally come full circle. finished re-reading Overpowered. Pretty neat arc!

I think it's pretty interesting how here really they defined Surge & Kit's co-dependence, not just on each other, but on Sonic & Tails.

Kit's inability to think for himself and whether that concern for Surge & later Sonic comes genuinely or is part of Starline's programming, or Surge forging her own path and how her trauma literally manifests itself, putting doubts in her head that she'll ever escape the role she was made for. As much as she wants Sonic dead, she needs him as a drive because she knows deep down, that's all she was made for. It adds a bit of perspective to her & Kit attempting to become heroes that I never thought about. That organic, genuine side of them showing through the layers of hatred for the hand they were dealt in life, finding a new purpose despite it all.

My one nitpick is that I find it a bit weird that they released the Surge story referencing a future issue-- the Knuckles story did too but that was more of a 'Find out what happened in this future issue!' instead of an editors note referencing an issue that isnt out yet in the same way that they do for past issues

But I assume that's more to do with the release delays and them wanting to actually have the annual out this year

I loved all the stories in this one--I love the dynamic between Surge and Kit SORT OF changing--with Surge not knowing about it, and Kit planning to kind of go behind her back and cause trouble, thinking it's for her benefit

I think it goes without saying that I loved the Knuckles story, Im always up for more Knuckles and the banter between him and Sonic. But I also loved seeing his views on his duty to the Master Emerald. Because one does have to wonder, DOES he hate being stuck on that island? Especially now that he has friends beyond it?

So getting to see his views on that was nice

But ngl the Knuckles story and the Mimic story are fighting for first place for me

I loved seeing his backstory- I wonder if it was decided that he was a former actor because of that one concept of his that has him with a Phantom of the Opera styled mask, or if it was a coincidence and him being a former actor was an easy connection to make due to his powers and the fact that he has to act like whoever he's mimicking if he wants to do a good job of it

Him having concluded that he's empty inside, and the friendship with the og Diamond Cutters proving him wrong-- and that frustrating him to the point that he wants to get rid of them instead of spurring him on to change his views on himself and the world just adds a new layer of 'wow, buddy, you're fucked up' that I love

And GOD getting to see more of how the og Diamond Cutters were as a team and as friends, and getting to see a bright eyed Whisper that looked on in awe at Mimic and was closer to Tangle in personality was both nice AND devastating, knowing what happens. And now that we have even more of that backstory, you gotta think it absolutely eats her up inside that she introduced Mimic to the team, even though she could've never known what'd happen.

Seeing Mimic slink around the shadows and almost managing to GET Whisper made me feel dread, even though I knew nothing would happen to her

Also there's something about Whisper being able to slowly but surely move on, while Mimic is stuck, unable to do the same....-cheffs kiss-
