suvi wasn’t anticipating anything good when she pulled up to frank’s house. he hadn’t texted her back all day, and she was more than a little worried. she climbed out of her truck and locked the doors, jogging up to the front door. she hesitated though, hand hovering over the door handle. suvi took a deep breath, before she changed her mind and knocked on the door, her lip caught between her teeth, nerves zapping through her whole body. / @ncmentia​

THE CAST FOR 'DARK THERE AFTER' HAS LEAKED!!!

suvi nygard's hit webcomic, 'dark there after' was picked up by netflix late last year, and fans of the webcomic have been quaking to see who the main cast would be! fancasts and petitions for many actors have been seen floating around the internet for the last year, but before the comic was even picked up too. finally, the day has come and we have the full roster of the main cast! allegedly filming has already begun, but a trailer is still in the distant future!

up first! we have the most important casting in the whole show! paget nilsson, the accidental leader of the nighthawks will be played by gina stiebitz! next we have to do the romantic interest, juliet 'jules' pledge! who will be played by up and coming star, rhea harris! noah jacobs, the fan favorite of the nighthawks has been the hardest to cast, and the most argued about character on the show, and finally, it's revealed he will be played by sydney mae diaz! the nighthawks would be nothing without the cool and brilliant honoria kim, who is always getting the group out of trouble, and who will be played by terry hu! alexis bailey, the tech savvy nighthawk, with the coolest powers in the whole group, will be played by the wonderful and incredibly talented lovie simone! and finally, to finish off our super six, we have the acting debut of jung wooseok, also know just as wooseok, who has been cast as lee na!

and we know everyone is champing at the bit to find out who will be playing the dramatic 'will they won't they' of the comic series, paget's mother, kassandra nilsson and her loverboy, officer garrett. well, look no further! kass will be played by the lovely bridget regan and officer big arms--- i mean officer garrett will be played by the favorite for most fancasts, manu bennett!

Audiodrama Sunday 7/7/24

Most of what I did this week was listen to Courier's Call. Next week I'll be up to date, then it's time for InCo.

I'm almost caught up with Skyjacks: Courier's Call. I don't want it to be over! It looks like the next season is coming soon though. Sleazus and Sleazy’s had me rolling. There was so much intrigue at the all Audron dinner, I was loving all the politics. Cici asking June and Kieran to prom was so cute! I loved all the very gnc prom outfits, Bobby Gene in the giant chickenbone dress is a wonderful image. Finally the snowball fight was incredible, I love that the cast mentioned Craig of the Creek, that show fits the vibes of Courier's Call so well.

@wanderersjournalpod I had 2 episodes to listen to. With all the Pluto drama with the creature, Marigold really buried the lead. She’s from really deep in her forest wow.

Dear Liisphyra this week was a fun mystery. I loved the musical accompaniment, and the "red heron" joke was great.

In the new Lost Terminal I had forgotten about Cassie, it’s nice to hear more from her. The ending was brutal though, it reminds me of AI chains from the book Kitty Cat Kill Sat. There are so many AIs in the show now, I love that this season only has AI characters in it.

@midnightburgr had a new Welcome to the Horizon! Wait until Frank and June hear about the Teds and earth tv, they're going to totally lose it. The comet is totally going to tie into the main show later in the season.

This episode of @worldgonewrongpod was too real. I absolutely adored the premise of this episode, it feels like the core of what this show is, real problems in a supernatural world. This was one of the funniest episodes yet, because of how realistic it was.

@worldsbeyondpod really was a completely different tone for every PC. Ursulon’s scenes were horrifying, Ame's were cute, and Suvi's was amazing! Vandal was wonderful, and Aabria’s dice curse is broken! Suvi essentially pratfalling against an incredibly dangerous witch and it working perfectly was incredible. I'm loving the way the wizards are treated in this story arc.

Spout lore couldn't have been more different from Worlds Beyond Number. I love both these show, for very different reasons. The "coming up with seven plans while walking to their objective then following none of them" was so real, every TTRPG group I've ever been in has done this at one point.

he'd timed it because of course he had. frank might not have been the harvard alumini in the relationship, but he was a damn good detective. he knew his ex wife, and she worked on a schedule, — the moment he thought about it he figured there was probably some specific timing when it came to visiting tyler, and then all he had to do was pay attention to ethan's rambling about his coming and goings to catch on on what it was exactly. — so, of course, he timed it, he timed his way into to parking on the entrance of the golden ranch about five hours after ellie had last left. late enough that she would have been gone by now even if she had decided to stay a little longer, early enough that she wouldn't have come back yet, not for another two days. frank sat there in the driver's seat of the truck that advertised to everyone just who was driving, without him ever needing to leave his spot and thought about going back home. — his life was fine. he had a girlfriend, she was pregnant, he was happy. happy-ish. aas close to happy as he was capable of being. there was no goddamn reason in hell as to why he really needed to confront tyler about getting back with ellie. and yet there he was, gripping onto the steering wheel, gritting his teeth. knuckles white and jaw hurting. — maybe suvi was right all along, maybe he did need therapy, maybe admitting to a fucking stranger how much of a coward he truly was was better than whatever aimless bat swinging of his terrible feelings he was currently doing. he loved ellie, he loved tyler, he hated them both so much he couldn't think straight. he wished suvi's could make him forget he had a past, that there was ever any before her. he wished she was all there ever was. all there would ever. — frank took one deep breathe, allowed himself a second when he realized it came shaky. shifted his weight back and forth and then back again. and he was out of the truck, slamming its door, stalking his way to tyler, all anger and bravado, "you know, you are—" god, seeing his face made everything so much fucking harder. "you can be one motherfuckin' little shit sometimes, you know that, tyler?"

he had been home for one day. one day. and he felt better already. it was that simple, that easy. home. he couldn't tell if it was the distance from his job, the proximity to his mom, the ever present soothing nature of suvi, the fucking peace— god, he could finally hear himself think. — and the most ridiculous part about it was that he couldn't stop thinking about tyler. poor fucking tyler. he had fucked tyler up and for what? drove all the way there and what was he expecting tyler to say? sorry i didn't give you a heads up. there is no way that would have satisfied him. frnak sighed loudly pulled his phone out of his pocket.

at the end of the day, the golden ranch is so tied up in everything i made with him. it started with one of his characters, but that was enough to get me hooked on yellowstone (despite him never having seen the damn show). this was a huge thing for me, watching weekly with kelsey and cass, falling in love with building golden from scratch. tyler and angela, libby laura and leon, maggie and judas, every new addition something so much sweeter and stronger than i thought i could pull off.

and then he gave me frank. frank and tyler tied the whole story together, a lonely cowboy who'd bet his whole future on his best friends being around for the rest of his life, marrying his high school sweetheart right out of graduation, having a kid good and young.

angela leaving wasn't the biggest part to that story, not right away. not until tyler and frank were fully explored. that was were i learned that tyler would and could love every person his heart could find worth loving. angela, frank, ellie, i wouldn't have ever been surprised if he fell in love with suvi too.

there were all sorts of things that they hadn’t told each other yet, and max was one of those things. their relationship had started out so good, so loving and he was so excited by every little thing he learned about her. he listened to her talk, he held her in his arms and whispered sweet nothings in her ears. and when that ended, it never came back. leaving max was the best idea she had had, but she always knew he would come back eventually, he had before, but she never told anyone about that. 

suvi collapsed in frank’s arms, tears spilling down her cheeks, her whole body hurt and she knew she had done twice as much damage as he had done to her, but she couldn’t sort out that in her mind, not when the blood was still fresh. she couldn’t find the words yet, crying into his shirt, hands clutching onto him as she felt wave after wave of sobs, until like a switch had been flicked, she finally stopped.

her legs started aching ages ago, but suvi couldn’t bear to shift a muscle. frank hard curled up with his head in her lap, an arm wrapped around her leg as she contorted her body to be able to look at him while she drew. she had been staying up just to get a few more panels of the next edition of ‘dark there after’ done, but once she had, frank had already fallen asleep, and she wasn’t done, the urge to keep creating crackling in her chest like a well loved hearth. she traced over his edges, fingers ghosting over his skin as she tried to get the lines right, get the shape of frank and all the love he gave her and splash it all onto the empty pages of her sketchbook. sometimes her love for him was irrational. so overwhelming, so intoxicating she worried she might drown in it. in his eyes, in his grasp, in his sweet honeyed words that stuck to her no matter what she did. sometimes she worried she had gone completely insane. was she completely mad? did it matter? somethings in life came with insanity, and would they have been better if not for that loss of reality? the pencil in her hand slowed and eventually it was abandoned as her fingers were drawn to run through his hair, to touch him, to remind herself that this was real. that she had finally told him that she loved him. she hadn’t just made it all up. he loved her, and she loved him. and she could die tomorrow and the enormity of his love was enough for her to be alright with such a disappointing death. frank stirred ever so slightly and even though it felt childish, she held her breath. he rolled over just enough to shift her own position, like he had determined they were going to sleep here tonight. she watched him breath, eyes closed and the smallest smile on his lips before she properly moved, putting her sketchbook on the ground as she settled in. “we are going to love you so much you aren’t going to know what to do with all that love, kid.” suvi said softly, glancing down at her stomach. these were the moments she wanted to savor more than anything, before their live wasn’t just the two of them anymore. LAST RESORT suvi & frank

LAST RESORT : injured / sick and alone after an encounter with a threat or a run-in with a dangerous situation, sender finds themself at receiver’s door, coming to them because they have nowhere else to go.

he opened the door, heart suddenly pounding against his ear and frank had three thoughts at the exact same time: one, this was a nightmare. there was no way it wouldn't be. he had dreamed this same exact scenario so many times that it being real wasn`t a possibility anymore. she always came to his door, injured, hurt, panting, scared, begging for help. he always turned her away, far too aware that being inside with him was worse than being outside with whatever hurt her. two, this was real, because when he reached forward, brows furrowed, hands forced to steady and touched her, he could feel the warmth of her presence like it was a tangible thing. for as often as suvi showed up in his dreams, his brain could never correctly imitate the feeling of fear and adoration that rushed through his veins every time her hands brushed his. it could never copy that sudden spike in heartbeat that left him wondering if this was what it was like to be  close to an angel. perfection so vivid it could burn. in his dreams she was always fuzzy and here she was stark and real. three, whoever the fuck had done this to her— whether they had scared her, jumped her, hurt her, frank didn’t care. — whoever the fuck had hurt her was going to pay for it. 

“come here, baby, come here.” his voice was soft, but stern. caring in every way that it was direct. frank wrapped his arms around her body to guide her inside the house, never moving too close, never stepping too far, meant to hold her where balance faltered and leave enough space to breathe still— “it’s okay.” the words were beyond reassurance, beyond promises. frank’s voice offered an statement of fact. it would be okay now, frank didn’t care who he had to fight, or what he had to break. he would make it okay for her. “you are safe. you are safe with me now, okay? just breathe. what happened?”

Romanced companions react to Ryder having no chill

Jaal- He and his darling one were at a Nexus party, although it is fairly obvious that neither of them wanted to be there.

Even so,Ryder kept up a smiling facede despite wanting to shoot a wall repeatedly. Jaal, however, could not physically contain his annoyance. Finally the two said "hello" and made there rounds enough to retreat off into a corner balconey drinking and complaining about other people to themselves.

Suddenly, an obnoxious laugh rang off from behind them, and Ryder groaned, recognizing it. It was their hometown terror, Celeste,the one person they despised more than anyone in the entire universe, or in this case universes. Not because She was specifically a bully to Ryder, but because she always made it a point to talk about herself and her achievements and how much better she is,was or will be compared to every body else.

When Ryder had heard Celeste had joined the Initiative, they had hoped and prayed they'd never have to be on the same planet as her, let alone city. But there she stood, in all her sneering glory.

"Well,Well Ryder." She smirked "Still getting drunk in the back of parties? I see your slobishness and tastelessnes have stayed in tact all the way out here."

Jaal felt himself getting angry, but before he could say anything, Ryder quipped out "Unlike your engagement."

Celeste spulttered out as Ryder continued.

"Word on the street says that he dropped you like a sack of bricks as soon as he got here. "First to be married in Andromeda" you always bragged. Well congratulations, you the first person I know to be dumped in Andrmeda."

Celeste turned red and stormed away, while Jaal just chuckled at Ryder's firey comeback.

"Well,played,my darling one." He cooed as he wrapped an arm around them. ".....although, I have yet to see these word's you speak of." He added quietly looking at the ground.

"Jaal..." Ryder began with a tired sigh, and he immediately caught on.

"Idiom?"

"Idiom."

Liam- Sara and Liam were attending a sort of fundraiser event to raise awarness and money for the cause of the Initiative restores and repairment. Every thing was going quite smooth, Ryder was smiling and talking out every cent that she could to do her job as pathfinder and better not only the lives of humans, but all the species in Andromeda.

Everything was going smoothly, and Ryder was doing her very best to make a good impression and hold her tounge. Untill she got to an old fashioned half human Asari Heiress, with enough cover up scandals on her to make a best selling series of novels.

Liam and Sara had walked up to the Heiress and her date, which also had the company of 3 other men. She stood their quietly, as the men talked.

When Sara and Liam walked right up to them,she paid no mind...until Sara started to speak.

"Hello," She said sticking out her hand "I'm Ryder, human Pathfinder." Before the men could say, the Heriess pushed down her hand with a gasp.

"Don't you know, your never supposed to open your mouth in the presence unless asked?"

And out of reflex, without missing a beat the sass came pouring out of Sara as she repied with "Oh! Like you do with your legs?"

The Heiress chocked on air to which Sara mutterd underneith her breath about an uneeded demonstration. The Heiress obviously heard and had to go exuse her self.

Liam was awfully quite during this, but thats because he was laughing so hard he couldn't breath.

He weezed out an ariy "Damn,Sara. You cant say that to an aristocrat." Before leaning over and clutching his stomach, audible laughs coming in short breaths.

Sara had to remind him to breath.

Gil- Gil is also a sass master, but nothing could prepare him for this level of savagery. This one is placed into the future after Jill had the baby, a boy by the name of Alec Ryder II, (This is my Headcanon, let me have it). They were having a family Outing, which actually just consisted of Gil visiting mechanics shops for new part, and Scott trailing behind him like a sad,lost puppy with Alec strapped to his chest because Gil has all the credits and he wants to get Icecream.

"Come on Gil!" Scoott whined "Ive waited over 600 years to have Icecream again. The shops right there."

"Just a little longer, Scott." Gil chuckled out. "Let me find this last part, then we'll go for icecream. Scouts honor, love." He pecked Scott on the lips before continuing to shop.

"You were never a Scout,Gil." Scott chuckled.

Suddenly a bystander made a noise of distaste at the husbands affections. "What a disgusting desplay." He sneered "Such a horrific sight should not be seen by a child."

"Your absolute right," Ryder gasped with mock offensiveness "Sir you. should leave, lest you make my son cry with that mug of yours."

The man let out an actual offensed gasp before storming out.

"I changed my mind!" Gil laughed out "Ice cream now. You earned it, big boy." He grabbed Ryder by the hand and lead him to the parlor, which happened to be in the same direction the man stompped off in.

"Hey!"Gil called out after him? "Would you like me to buy you an Icecream for that burn?"

Suvi- This is also in the future, at a PTA meeting.The school was built and expanded upon on Aya, and it has mixed classes that teach all the basic subjects while still educating the children about the other species. Sara and Suvi had adopted Agrarian twins, Ellen and Alec, which were hanging out with Uncle Scott. The children were gone and the claws came out. The girls just let it play out, not really getting involved.

...Until homophobia got thrown into the mix over the "Safety,Security, and purity of the children."

"It is not good for the children," a mother protested. "They are young and impressionable. What if my son see's this and grows up, only to run off with another man like a hoodlim."

People where angry now. Suvi was angry,the anagra were angry. Who was she to lable love? But before anyone else could say something, Sara responded in a calm tone.

"Grow up and run off with another,

Huh? That’s funny. Isn’t that what your ex-husband did,Linda?"

Cue a collective room off "Oooooooo's" as Linda left earily

"Tell Frank and Denis that as pathfinder, Id be glad to attend their wedding!"

Cora- She and Scott were at a Nexus Gala , and Scott was stalking the snack table and Cora spoke with guests and superiors, celebrating there success and making plans for future colonies. Scott couldnt really care less as the moment, and instead concentrated on stacking a tower full of what he hoped are brownies. Suddenly, Tesla, an officer Scott could not stand came up behind him and tsked

"Isn't that your forth plate of food?" She scoffed.

"Dont know," Ryder shrugged, sarcasm dripping from his tone "Isnt that your 3rd husband?" He jesters towards the man Cora was talking to, or atlesst trying to talk to as she choked on her champagne. Apparently they were in ear shot.

She slapped him on the arm for it, but still smiled.

PeeBee- Oh, she is so glad that POC recorded this.She and Ryder were grabbing a drink with POC in tow, when a rather high strung Asari obviously nearing the end of her Matron stage sat next to them and demanded a drink. They ignored her mostly, laughing and drinking among themselves, until she got tipsy and felt the need to comment on PeeBee "as an Asari."

"As an Asari," she sneered "One would think you'd now to dress yourself by now. You've had 100 years of practice yet you wear that? You look like a hobo, nothing matches."

And without missing a beat, Ryder replied. "You know what else doesnt match? The father's of your children.  Or that ugly ass hat your wearing."

"It is a traditional Matriarch head wrap!" She gasped.

"It's hideous." Ryder retorted as she walked away.

PeeBee choked on her whsikey, but still gave an infectious laugh.

"My hero."she playfully cooed "Next rounds on me."

Reyes- Firstly, this dude had to have a titanium balls to even walk up to these two. It was some washed up has-been politician hoping to  gain some shadey connections to get back in the game. He had asked around, and paid off people with the last of his dirty money to find this "Charlatan".

 The real one. 

 He had to get past decoy after fruad after decoy, but he finally  found Reyes. Needless to say he did well to hide his shock at the fact that the King of Kadara port was hidding out in the backrooms of Tartarus locking lips with the Human pathfinder.

The politician stood patiently as the guard announced the guest, causing Reyes to groan and reluctantly break the kiss. 

"Yes?" He hissed, obviously annoyed at the politician's presence,who seemed unphased by his hostility. He stated his case and offered a proposition, to which Reyes consider. "Intresting," Reyes spoke with a smirk "But,Ill have to consort with my companion here. Not only is Ryder the Queen/Second King of Kadara port,  but a Pathfinder as well. Your re-initiation will effect the Initiative, no doubt."

The politician seemed annoyed,but let the two have a brief moment. It was there Reyes learned exactly why he had been replaced. The politician made several baf calls thats resulted in major deaths and civilian risks, had been in countless scandals ,and ignored Judicial rullings for his own gain. He'd screw the Initiative  (and ultiamtly Ryder) sideways which will undoubtedly screw funding and supply to sevral plantes and outposts, including Kadra Port (and Ultimately Reyes)

Reyes refused after learning this and had him black listed .The politician grew hostile at rejection and had to be physically removed from the room by the guards, lest Reyes shoot him and get kicked out by Umi.

"YOU!" he spat out accusingly at Ryder "This is your fault! I almost had him! You need to mind your own business and stay out of grown men's conversations, little girl/boy."

"And you," Ryder replied with mockery just as the politician was being hualed out the door "Need to stay out of married women's beds. But neither of us will be doing what we "need" to any time soon, now will we?"

"Damn," Reyes laughed "Your hot when your sassy." Then he leaned over to picky up where they left off

The politician was still found dead  few days later though, and Reyes only halfway feind innocence.

Vetra(And Lexi, I guess)- Ah, no one has more sass than a sibling. Sassing  each other is hardwired into evry sibling relationship. Ryder was visiting thier twin, who was awake, but still on bed rest. They talking for a bit, but that soon turned into a sassing contest. And ecen even though is was all in could fun, the amount of shade being thrown could blot out the sun. Currently they were talking about their teenage years before getting old enough to join the military,only vaguely aware of Lexi giving Vetra a check up

"Atleast my knees weren't always ashy." The twin quipped.

"Well no duh," Ryder scoffed playfully in a sing-song voice "You applied extra lotion cause you were always on them." 

The twin gasped and put hand of mock hurt on thier chest, then began wacking their sibling with a pillow when they started naming people.

"Ryder!" Vetra chuckled out as lexi smiled shook her  head,making a mental note to keep track of both twins sexual histories.

"That's below the belt, Bro/Sis!" The twin exclaimed as they continued wacked the other with a pillow 

"Oh,like you were with Terry Maclamra behind the bleachers in junior year?" They ended up getting hit even harder.

Vetra had to stay back longer because she laughed so hard she could breath, and swears she saw a tear roll down Lexi's cheek as the leand on the table and bowed her head,hiding the silent laugh.

Study captures six galaxies undergoing sudden, dramatic transitions

Galaxies come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and brightnesses, ranging from humdrum ordinary galaxies to luminous active galaxies. While an ordinary galaxy is visible mainly because of the light from its stars, an active galaxy shines brightest at its center, or nucleus, where a supermassive black hole emits a steady blast of bright light as it voraciously consumes nearby gas and dust. Sitting somewhere on the spectrum between ordinary and active galaxies is another class, known as low-ionization nuclear emission-line region (LINER) galaxies. While LINERs are relatively common, accounting for roughly one-third of all nearby galaxies, astronomers have fiercely debated the main source of light emission from LINERs. Some argue that weakly active galactic nuclei are responsible, while others maintain that star-forming regions outside the galactic nucleus produce the most light. A team of astronomers observed six mild-mannered LINER galaxies suddenly and surprisingly transforming into ravenous quasars—home to the brightest of all active galactic nuclei. The team reported their observations, which could help demystify the nature of both LINERs and quasars while answering some burning questions about galactic evolution, in the Astrophysical Journal on September 18, 2019. Based on their analysis, the researchers suggest they have discovered an entirely new type of black hole activity at the centers of these six LINER galaxies. "For one of the six objects, we first thought we had observed a tidal disruption event, which happens when a star passes too close to a supermassive black hole and gets shredded," said Sara Frederick, a graduate student in the University of Maryland Department of Astronomy and the lead author of the research paper. "But we later found it was a previously dormant black hole undergoing a transition that astronomers call a 'changing look,' resulting in a bright quasar. Observing six of these transitions, all in relatively quiet LINER galaxies, suggests that we've identified a totally new class of active galactic nucleus." All six of the surprising transitions were observed during the first nine months of the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF), an automated sky survey project based at Caltech's Palomar Observatory near San Diego, California, which began observations in March 2018. UMD is a partner in the ZTF effort, facilitated by the Joint Space-Science Institute (JSI), a partnership between UMD and NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Changing look transitions have been documented in other galaxies—most commonly in a class of active galaxies known as Seyfert galaxies. By definition, Seyfert galaxies all have a bright, active galactic nucleus, but Type 1 and Type 2 Seyfert galaxies differ in the amount of light they emit at specific wavelengths. According to Frederick, many astronomers suspect that the difference results from the angle at which astronomers view the galaxies. Type 1 Seyfert galaxies are thought to face Earth head-on, giving an unobstructed view of their nuclei, while Type 2 Seyfert galaxies are tilted at an oblique angle, such that their nuclei are partially obscured by a donut-shaped ring of dense, dusty gas clouds. Thus, changing look transitions between these two classes present a puzzle for astronomers, since a galaxy's orientation towards Earth is not expected to change. Frederick and her colleagues' new observations may call these assumptions into question. "We started out trying to understand changing look transformations in Seyfert galaxies. But instead, we found a whole new class of active galactic nucleus capable of transforming a wimpy galaxy to a luminous quasar," said Suvi Gezari, an associate professor of astronomy at UMD, a co-director of JSI and a co-author of the research paper. "Theory suggests that a quasar should take thousands of years to turn on, but these observations suggest that it can happen very quickly. It tells us that the theory is all wrong. We thought that Seyfert transformation was the major puzzle. But now we have a bigger issue to solve." Frederick and her colleagues want to understand how a previously quiet galaxy with a calm nucleus can suddenly transition to a bright beacon of galactic radiation. To learn more, they performed follow-up observations on the objects with the Discovery Channel Telescope, which is operated by the Lowell Observatory in partnership with UMD, Boston University, the University of Toledo and Northern Arizona University. These observations helped to clarify aspects of the transitions, including how the rapidly transforming galactic nuclei interacted with their host galaxies. "Our findings confirm that LINERs can, in fact, host active supermassive black holes at their centers," Frederick said. "But these six transitions were so sudden and dramatic, it tells us that there is something altogether different going on in these galaxies. We want to know how such massive amounts of gas and dust can suddenly start falling into a black hole. Because we caught these transitions in the act, it opens up a lot of opportunities to compare what the nuclei looked like before and after the transformation." Unlike most quasars, which light up the surrounding clouds of gas and dust far beyond the galactic nucleus, the researchers found that only the gas and dust closest to the nucleus had been turned on. Frederick, Gezari and their collaborators suspect that this activity gradually spreads from the galactic nucleus—and may provide the opportunity to map the development of a newborn quasar. "It's surprising that any galaxy can change its look on human time scales. These changes are taking place much more quickly than we can explain with current quasar theory," Frederick said. "It will take some work to understand what can disrupt a galaxy's accretion structure and cause these changes on such short order. The forces at play must be very extreme and very dramatic."
