Queen Louise of Sweden as a young princess by Philipp Alexius de Laszlo (oil on canvas, 1907)
Queen Louise, formerly Lady Louise Mountbatten, was born as Princess Louise Alexandra Marie Irene of Battenberg in Germany in 1889, but grew up in England.
During the First World War, she volunteered with the Red Cross and served as a nurse from March 1915 to July 1917. Queen Louise took an active interest in nurses' working conditions. During the Winter War, she opened a children's home for Finnish war orphans at Ulriksdal Palace. She also participated actively at Sophiahemmet's meetings.
In 1923, she married Crown Prince Gustaf (VI) Adolf.
Louise has been described as a staunch democrat and a practical person who disliked the attention she received as queen.

Hey! Hope you're doing good!! :) I'm wondering if you know any Drarry fics that have mythological elements / stories as part of the plot. For example, a fic based on Greek myths like Hades/Persephone?
Hi anon! I’m doing great, what about you? :) oh that’s a really cool ask, I hope you enjoy these! I strongly recommend checking khalulu’s stuff as they always explore different mythologies and cultures across their works. I’d love to get more recs on this theme, too!
Nordic:
Veðr by @shealwaysreads (M, 3k)
Norsemen have ranged far enough inland to find Harry, alone and abandoned by his kith and kin. But they bring far more than danger with them, they bring adventure, they bring magic.
Swedish:
Sweden | A Midsummer Night’s Dream by @drarrelie (M, 5.5k)
With the war finally over, you’d think Harry would finally be granted that “normal life” he’s always dreamt about. Finally free from the Dursleys, from that nose-less megalomaniac, from Horcruxes, Hollows, Death Eaters, Dementors, Prophecies… you’d think that he, for the first time in his life, would be allowed to be just a normal teenager. You’d think he’d deserve that much, right?
Russian:
S’Mitten by khalulu (G, 6k)
Harry and Draco aren’t enemies any more, but it seems their history will always stand between them – so let’s try some other histories on for size! The fickle finger of fate is muffled in one of Mrs Weasley’s mittens. Did I mention kisses?
Norwegian:
East of the Sun and West of the Moon by khalulu (T, 6k)
One stormy Thursday evening, a big white bear named Draco turns up to carry Harry away from the dreadful Dursleys. They get along fairly happily together until one night Harry’s curiosity gets the better of him, and Draco is whisked away to his wicked aunt’s castle, East of the Sun and West of the Moon. It will take a strong wind to bring Harry that far…..
Albanian:
What Country, Friends, Is This? by khalulu (M, 8k)
When Harry and Draco are paired up for a nebulous “capstone project” in 8th year, Draco suggests they use it as an opportunity to take a free Grand Tour of Europe. Harry isn’t interested in being grand, and they soon veer off the beaten path. The journey to find what (and who) you really want can lead to unexpected places. (As well as Bertha Jorkins’ aunt, Illyrian Serpent cults, heroic baby Draco tales, and Slytherins singing Motown.)
Hindu:
Birds of Dreams / Remover of Obstacles / Guardian of Waters by khalulu (G, 12k)
Harry is exploring his Desi heritage, and Draco runs into him in colourful circumstances. Luna has a penchant for puns and the Patils watch Bollywood. Paper is folded, a flying carpet takes an Indian road trip, and a phoenix is found. Love blooms along the way, a flower that’s free.
Finnish:
Sparks from the Fox’s Tail by khalulu (T, 17k)
Draco is frustrated with his career as a travel writer, when a mini-tirade from Mrs Weasley and an encounter with the portrait of an intrepid great-great-great-aunt lead him to Finland to study wandless magic. Harry is – just being contrary and following his sweet-tooth, or taking the subtle route to saving the world?
Multiple:
The Hardest Hue To Hold by @cavendishbutterfly (M, 17k)
Harry needs to get the hell out of England. So he sets up a teaching assistantship in America, hops on a plane, and heads off to a fresh start. Except there’s a familiar face among the university faculty, and it’s really not the familiar face that Harry wanted. Or at least, it’s not who Harry wanted at first.
Irish:
Offer Up Our Hearts by @tackytigerfic (M, 23k)
Harry Potter has a very nice life, thank you very much. He's a top Curse-Breaker with a lucrative Ministry contract, and exciting prospects ahead. Sometimes he does wish that he had time to pursue something official with Draco Malfoy - they're half in love with each other, after all, and a great team (in and out of bed), though Draco is still one of the most infuriating people he knows.
Egyptian:
Memory Lost | You Found by @maraudersaffair (E, 30k)
After his Auror training, Harry's assigned to guard the Department of Mysteries - specifically the room where Malfoy is being held in comfortable captivity. Yet no one will tell him why, and what's more concerning? Malfoy doesn't remember Harry at all. To uncover the mystery, Harry must travel all the way to Egypt where he discovers a magical community living in the great pyramids and a long held secret that is dangerous to anyone who knows it.
Arthurian:
The Compact by astolat (E, 64k)
Hermione frowned. “The real question is why the magic of Britain would be failing now, in fact.” “That is not the real question!” Ron said loudly; he’d woken up fully by now, and Harry had too; it was starting to sink in that they’d found the problem. “The real question is, how do we fix it?”
Brazilian:
A Sense of Scale by @fantalfart and dragontamerdrarry (M, 70k)
In which Draco spends an obscene amount of time thinking of new nicknames for The Living Git, lying to himself and using his charms to seduce an extremely uncooperative sentient school.
Celtic:
The Stars Have Courage by @fantalfart (M, 85k)
Draco waited five long years to watch his husband wake up from a coma. He's not ready to meet a Harry with no memory of anything that happened after he died at The Battle of Hogwarts, twelve years ago.
Greek:
Close Behind by @oflights (M, 134k)
To rescue Draco from the Underworld, Harry has to look forward. Unfortunately, Draco has to look back.
Bonus: dark fae AU 🧚‍♂️
Mushrooms of Wiltshire by @shiftylinguini (T, 5k)
There's no point unpacking―Harry's not staying long, and besides, there's just bundled rags in his valise. The illusion of belongings, of a man heading to a new position at a prestigious manor―one beset with rumours of old magic and of impish forest dwellers causing chaos and mayhem amid the phosphorescent toadstool glow. Bugger the job. Harry's here for the rumours. He's been chasing them for years.

Tiara Predictions: Denmark to Sweden
King Frederik and Queen Mary will visit Sweden on the 6th and 7th May 2024 for their first State Visit as King and Queen. The trip will focus on Swedish-Danish relations, technology, the armed forces, the arts and life sciences.
And now to the predictions…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tiara I want Mary to wear: Pearl Poire - Queen Margrethe’s signature tiara, this would be a lovely tiara for Mary to wear to show a passing of the baton from the former queen to the current. It was last worn in January by Queen Margrethe.
My Prediction: Ruby Parure - This tiara is more likely as Mary has recently worn the Emerald Parure Tiara for her first official portrait as Queen, which cannot be taken outside of Denmark, and I don’t think she’d wear another new tiara so soon. It was last worn in January by Queen Mary, then Crown Princess, for the New Year’s Reception.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tiara I want Silvia to wear: Braganza Tiara. As Silvia only wears this tiara to multi-royal events, it’s one of the only times that this tiara will get an outing so it’d be lovely if Silvia wore it tonight. It was last worn in September 2023 for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations for King Carl XVI Gustaf.
My Prediction: Leuchtenberg Sapphire Tiara. As the Danish don’t have any huge tiaras, I don’t believe that Silvia will go to the maximum, so the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Tiara is a safer bet. Silvia has worn 6 different tiaras to multi-royal events so this is a harder one to predict. It was last worn by Silvia in Dec 2023 for the King’s Dinner for Nobel Laureates.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tiara I want Victoria to wear: Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara. This tiara is my absolute favourite Swedish Tiara so it will appear in every prediction! It has been 2.5 years since Victoria wore this tiara so it’s overdue a wear. It was last worn by Princess Christina in January for the State Visit from France.
My Prediction: Baden Fringe. Similar to Silvia, Victoria has worn 4 different tiaras to multi-royal events in the past 7 years, so it’s a hard one to predict. It was last worn by Victoria in September 2023 for her father’s Jubilee celebrations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tiara I want Sofia to wear: Cut Steel Bandeau - I really like this tiara and it doesn’t come out of the vault enough. It was last worn by Crown Princess Victoria in July 2017 for the wedding of Astrid Bernadotte.
My Prediction: Wedding tiara. The only tiara Sofia has worn in the last 7 years, this is probably the safest bet! It was worn last month by Sofia for the State Visit from Finland.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tiara I want Princess Christina to wear: Connaught. Another Swedish stunner! This tiara holds particular significance for the Haga Princesses as it was their mother’s favourite tiara so it’s always lovely when she wears it. The tiara was last worn last month by Christina for the State Visit from Finland.
My Prediction: 4 Button Tiara. The better Swedish button tiara, I am not the biggest fan of either. However, aside from Victoria’s birthday tiara and the Cut Steel Bandeau, this tiara has been in the vault for the longest so it’s due an appearance. It was last worn by Princess Christina in December 2022 for the King’s Dinner for Nobel Laureates.

Both reproductive purchasers are 55. Waiting too long to have kids is not infertility
By Ainhoa Barcelona 3 MAY 2024, 16:00 BST
Congratulations are in order for Prince Gustav and Princess Carina of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, who have welcomed a second child, a daughter
According to Danish media outlet Billet-Bladet, Gustav – who is the first cousin of King Frederik and the eldest child of Princess Benedikte – and his wife Carina became parents again on Friday 26 April. The couple's spokesperson announced that "everyone is doing well and is very happy".
The newborn girl, whose name has not yet been announced, was welcomed via surrogacy in the US, much like her older brother Prince Gustav Albrecht, who turns one at the end of this month. Little Gustav was also born Stateside in May 2023
The Danish royal family are yet to acknowledge the happy news on their social media accounts, although last summer in August, they did share official portraits from baby Prince Gustav's christening.
The post at the time revealed that the youngster was baptised at home, in Berleburg Castle in Germany, with his grandmother Princess Benedikte – the younger sister of Queen Margrethe – in attendance, as well as King Frederik and Queen Mary.
Frederik and Mary's son Crown Prince Christian, who is one of baby Gustav's godparents, was also present.
Proud parents Gustav and Carina, both 55, married in June 2022, after nearly two decades together. They were unable to marry because of a strict rule implemented in the will of the Prince's grandfather, Prince Gustav Albrecht.
The will stated that Gustav would be prevented from inheriting family property if he married someone not of Protestant, noble, and Aryan descent. His partner Carina, an American author and former model, is of Swedish and Mexican descent.
However, after a lengthy battle with certain members of his family, it was determined that Gustav met the conditions of the will and would inherit Berleburg Castle, where they now reside.
In April 2022, the Danish court confirmed that Gustav and Carina would marry in June of that year, first in a civil service followed by a religious ceremony in Bad Berleburg, a town in Germany.
They tied the knot in front of 80 guests, including King Frederik and Queen Mary, before going on to start their family.

FASCINATING
THE WOMAN WHO PAINTED THE FUTURE
In the summer of 1986 a Swedish farmer recovered his abandoned country house by his last tenant. In the basement next to the house he found, covered in dust from years, huge wooden boxes.
When he opened them he was baffled. There were 1200 paintings, some very large, with geometric figures of intense colors. He called in a neighbor who supposedly was more educated or informed, but didn’t even understand what they had just discovered. They assumed that the paintings formed an enormous scenography or were illegal, maybe stolen.
The neighbor thought he would call a friend who worked in a museum and asked if the paintings had a signature. "Yes," said the neighbor - on the corner says Hilma Klint."
Some officials and art connoisseurs arrived and took away the boxes.
A few weeks later the Stockholm Art Museum made public an unusual discovery. It was more than a thousand paintings, drawings and theoretical essays, a totally abstract work, with pure color geometric shapes and precise texture, signed and dated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
What was unusual was the dates: they were painted before Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian "invented" abstract painting. Hilma was a clear forerunner. Why did nobody know about her? Why were the paintings hidden?
Hilma af Klint was born in Stockholm in 1862. Her father was a mathematician and had a large library in which little Hilma prescribed everything about geometry and art.
At twenty she entered the Swedish Academy of Arts, one of the few schools that admitted women and was part of the first generation of European painters who set up exhibitions and lived off their work. She painted portraits and realistic landscapes that were well appreciated by her clients.
In those years X-rays were invented and electromagnetic waves were discovered, which could send information through air and vacuum. These events blew Hilma’s mind where apparently she came to the conclusion that invisible parallel worlds exist.
She was interested in these alternative realities and different levels of perception. Because in that time the sciences were connected with spiritualism and Hilma went to spiritual sessions.
The possibility of communicating with the most beloved of her sisters, who had already died, was also encouraged. She would attempt to communicate with her sister, but formed a club with five other women; they met every Friday, summoned spirits and had automatic painting and poetry sessions (which the surrealists did years later).
Hilma started creating rare paintings with random spots, pretending to let herself go to other energies, then she went to paint that chaos based on the geometric structures of nature, which she knew well since she was a child.
She spent some days painting her commissions and others locking herself in a country house to unleash a creative passion she kept top secret. Two painters in one person.
So hid away for several years and on the day she wrote her will, she put her grandson Erick as the sole heir, on condition that he kept his paintings in wooden boxes, which could only be opened twenty years after her death
Why did she decide this?
Perhaps she considered her paintings a very intimate and sincere view, only of herself; perhaps she thought her work was completely out of academic rules and making it public would end her successful career.
But here you are, life decided something else: the grandson left this world before the date of the revelation and the paintings remained hidden for many years more than Hilma wanted, until 1986, when the Swedish farmer found it in his basement.
In the eighties, the avant-garde of the beginning of the century were already totally assimilated; art followed its paths, more different than ever.
Amidst this worldly noise, Hilma af Klint returned from the afterlife to take her place as the true mother of surrealism…

Augusto Nicodemo - Portrait of Jacob Philipp Hackert in His Studio, Naples - 1797
oil on canvas, height: 55.8 cm (21.9 in) Edit this at Wikidata; width: 42.1 cm (16.5 in)
Alte Nationalgalerie,  institution Berlin State Museums, Germany
Jacob Philipp Hackert (15 September 1737 – 28 April 1807) was a landscape painter from Brandenburg, who did most of his work in Italy.
Hackert was born in 1737 in Prenzlau in the Margraviate of Brandenburg (now in Germany). He trained with his father Philipp (a portraitist and painter of animals) and his uncle, before going to the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin in 1758. Later he traveled to Swedish Pomerania and Stockholm, at the invitation of Adolf Friedrich von Olthof, a Swedish government official and businessman. For a time, he lived with Von Olthof and painted decorative murals at his estate.
He spent from 1765 to 1768 in Paris with the Swiss artist Balthasar Anton Dunker, where he focused on painting in gouache. He met and was inspired by Claude Joseph Vernet, who was already famous as a painter of landscapes and seascapes, and the German engraver Johann Georg Wille.
In 1768 Hackert left Paris with his brother Georg, and went to Italy, basing himself mainly in Rome and Naples, where he produced many works for Sir William Hamilton. He travelled all over Italy, gaining a reputation as a talented landscape painter. He became famous everywhere in Europe due to his works for Catherine the Great, the cycle of paintings about Battle of Chesma, and Pope Pius VI.
In 1786 he went to work for Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies in Naples. He advised on the creation of a painting restoration laboratory at the Museo di Capodimonte, suggesting the call from Rome to the court of Naples of the restorer Federico Anders  and supervised the transfer of the Farnese collections from Rome to Naples. As court painter realised famous pictures of Caserta and the Royal Palace of Caserta, besides the paintings series of the Bourobon's ports. During this period he acted also as a secret informant of Russia, his contact being the Russian diplomat Andrey Razumovsky.
When Goethe visited Naples in 1786, he and Hackert became friends.
Hackert had settled in a house in Posillipo. The painters Salvatore Fergola and Salvatore Giusti (1773-1845) were among his pupils.
In 1799, when Naples was declared the Parthenopaean Republic, Hackert lost much of his royal patronage. He moved to Pisa and then Florence. He bought an estate in San Pietro di Careggi, near Florence, and he died there in 1807 and was buried in the so-called "Dutch garden" of Livorno. His remains were then moved to the actual cemetery of the Dutch-German Congregation.
He never married and lived a good part of his life with one of his brothers but he had affairs with some married women, and from one of them he probably had a daughter.
Goethe wrote the first biography of Hackert in 1811.

Asking Simblr: What's your tiara lore?
Thank you for this awesome question as I absolutely have tiara lore! I love doing this kind of world building even if it just sits in my documents to remind myself when plotting. The Lancasters have followed European Royal Families example (such as the Swedish Royal Family) and formed a family foundation to keep their most important items, such as Tiaras, safe through the generations. Tiaras and jewelry are managed by the Queen and she gets to decide who wears what tiaras. There are also tiaras that are owned personally but the Lancaster collection is prolific and vast, collected over many generations. Queen Alice was known as a jewelry lover and many pieces date to her time as Queen.
Tumblr media
First up is the Lancaster Wedding Tiara. Three generations of Royal Brides have worn this tiara (with a notable exception of Queen Charlotte!). It started with then-Crown Princess Alice, who loved everything jewelry and tiaras. It was a gift from her father the King of Attrope.
Tumblr media
Next is the State Diadem. Many generations of Queens have worn this tiara to the coronation of their husbands - it is generally not worn on other occasions. An exception would be a royal portrait or something like that.
Tumblr media
The Queen has several tiaras that are traditionally reserved for the Queen of the day. On the left is the Sulani Scroll Tiara, a large piece often worn for state dinners and large ceremonial occasions. Inset is two famous large diamonds given to the Crown by the people of Sulani over 150 years ago. On the right is the Lancaster Emerald Parure, a famous set gifted to Queen Anne by her husband King Frederick I. It is thought to be the oldest piece in the collection, featuring stunning large emeralds.
Tumblr media
Princess Margaret has worn a few tiaras since she turned 18 (the age at which young ladies are able to wear tiaras). On the left is the Lovers Knot Tiara, worn to a State Dinner. A hefty piece with many diamonds and large pearls. In the middle is a delicate Leaf Tiara that is owned by Princess Margaret personally - it was a gift from her parents on her 18th birthday. On the right she is wearing the Art Deco Diamond Bandeau to the Opera, which Queen Charlotte had created from diamonds in the family collection. It is a more simple piece which fit styles of the time, with no fancy metal work - its just huge diamonds.
Tumblr media
Queen Charlotte has worn many tiaras over her time as Crown Princess, Queen and now Queen Mother. On the left is her wearing the Art Deco Diamond Bandeau for its very first outing. In the middle is one of the tiaras reserved for Queens (and former queens) to wear - the Honeycomb Tiara, worn at Charles and Victoria's wedding. A large piece that needs a good supporting hairstyle! On the right is a piece named Queen Charlotte's Bandeau Tiara. Another art deco style piece that was a gift from her husband King Edward II.
Tumblr media
Last and certainly not least - Crown Princess Victoria. As the one with the shortest time within the Royal family, she has had less tiara appearances. On the left was her first tiara appearance after her wedding wearing the Lancaster Floral Tiara. In the middle, for her first official portrait, she is wearing the Antique Halo Tiara, one from the Lancaster vaults, dating back to Queen Alice. Purchased from one of the top jewel houses of the day, but not seen in decades so it was a nice surprise when the portrait was unveiled. The one on the right, I was just making a character picture for her and put her in the Queen Charlotte Bandeau because its one I really like. Its one she will definitely wear in the future.
There are some other tiaras that I have flagged as being part of their collection but I haven't pulled them out yet 😊😊
