Will Kel and Lin maintain their status as the two POV characters?
Yes, they will.

characters who very calmy do the most unhinged shit imaginable all while maintaining a perfect expression of blankness — but also they loose all ability to function on any level when they get horny (often) — like there’s a thin line between “many gears turning but I won’t let it show” and “no thoughts head empty” and they straddle it perfectly
this post is dedicated to James Herondale, Wil Kempen & Kel Saren

I JUST FINISHED SWORDCATCHER (and why does it seem like no one else has on here?)
Wasn't expecting to like it and get as invested in it as I am rn?? There's something about both Kel and Lin that really draws you in
Just documenting my thoughts below for fun:
- In the very beginning, I was kinda rooting for Lin and Kel (sorry I am kinda heteronormative and boring) but then as soon as she had her first interaction with Conor, I knew there was gonna be something there - but by the end, I have to say nothing at all is very clear there
- I TOTALLY CALLED LIN HAVING THE GODDESS IN HER ON TEVATH, although honestly I thought it would be for real (all the dreams and the stone etc) and not her scheming (which is so much better)
- So wanna see more of Lin scheming to get what she wants, and I'm totally seeing an arc where she gets ahold of too much power/magic but needs to make the choice between what is ethical and what she wants etc
- I'm predicting that Antonetta is gonna betray Kel at some point for her own gain/the Silk Charter/whatever
- I was really loving the Kel and Vienne interactions so I was honestly really sad to see her die :(
- Kel seems to have some sort of tie to the sea? And if I'm remembering correctly the three gods are war, death and the sea - interesting connection there and I wonder if anything will come of that
- I also feel like Silla is gonna be involved in some sort of betrayal against Kel ? (Idk I just feel like everyone's gonna betray him at some point because Cassie likes her main characters to suffer a bunch)
- I'm very curious to see what becomes of Conor next, because so far he hasn't done much of import, I'm interested in what kind of scheming he's going to pull off and whose interests are going to be protected
- Why do I feel like Mayesh is gonna die and there's gonna be some sort of struggle within the Sault over who succeeds him, and of course this will affect the coming war with Sarthe
- The King coming into his own was unexpected, there's gotta be some sort of agenda there too + his unexpected (physical) strength
- What I'm hoping to see is more of Kel's self exploration and him finding himself, his thoughts, his motivations outside of House Aurelian and Conor
- ALSO WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE KING ON THE HILL AND THE RAGPICKER KING????? GIMME MORE BACKSTORY ON HIM AND JI-ANN OMG I SO WANT TO KNOW (Does he remind anyone else a bit of Kaz Brekker and Inej?)
- Going to be super interesting to see what happens when Kel's interests and Conor's interests diverge at some point

Am I the only one that is severely confused by sword catchers (cassie Clare’s new novel) plot?
It’s the same as a darker shade of magic. Even the name of the main character is the same one.
Has anyone addressed this yet?

Sword Catcher and A darker shade of magic
so others have probably noticed the similarities too but I just had to get this out of my brain and put it here.
I have only read the first book of A darker shade trilogy and I can already see some similarities. Lin and Kell are about a rare type of species, she's Ashkar and he's Antari. Let's just forget for a moment that they both start with an A and focus on how only THEIR species could perform magic. Both of the characters need some talisman or another object to perform magic. Though Kell can conjure magic on his own, he still needs some thing to conjure specific magic for example jumping between the London's. I think there is also some magical objects that collectors collect but only the antaris could use them.
Now this is just the similarities between Lin and Kell. There is another main character that goes by the name of…. KEL. yep. Kel.
The official character synopsis
"Kel is an orphan, stolen from the life he knew to become the Sword-Catcher-the body-double of a royal heir, Prince Conor Aurelian. He has been raised alongside the prince, trained in every aspect of combat and statecraft. He and Conor are close as brothers, but Kel knows he has one destiny: to die for Conor. No other future is possible."
Kell and Kel are both orphans, they both grew up alongside a prince. Idk if Kell's destiny is to sacrifice himself for Rhys but I wouldn't be surprised bc the king of red London uses Kell to complete his tasks.
So yep. Cassie probably didn't mean to make it similar and it was probably not her intention. The book may be COMPLETELY different then A darker shade considering this is only similarities between the characters but I hope the books aren't similar because we r gonna get a TMI x Harry Potter plagiarism scandal again.

Okay like if you agree, but….
here are 3 trends that I wish the fantasy genre would take a break from for a little while.
*Quick disclosure, this isn’t meant to feel overly negative, I mostly want to hear other people’s opinions on these trends and others!*
Hungry Games-esque “a competition with deadly stakes” plot lines. On the one hand, I get it, because like the rest of the world, I was totally enthralled by this premise when it was first introduced in the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale and later, the Hunger Games. However, at this point the idea of the main character entering into a deadly competition feels a little tired and predictable, and unlike Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, the many of the latest iterations lack the searing social commentary which made the premise so compelling. Notable Examples: Serpent and the Wings of Night, Lightlark, The Jasad Heir
Motherfucking EPIGRAPHS. You know, that line or paragraph of text which proceeds every chapter. In the fantasy genre, often it is an except from a historical or religious text from the world in which the book is set. And here’s the thing—it’s not that I hate epigraphs, or that I don’t understand their purpose. They can be an elegant way to add context to the story without burdening the main narrative with too much exposition, and they can also help the created world to feel more “lived in”. Having said that, I feel like they are starting to get way overused, and for me, they’ve gone from feeling like a cool way for the author to provide context and add meta commentary to their story to serving as a slightly less clunky vehicle of info-dumping. Like…am I supposed to be remembering the characters of this lore which I only ever hear about through these epigraphs, because I can assure you, I am not. In other instances, they can feel like an authors lack of faith in the reader, as if they are afraid we might miss the point if they don’t include an unsubtle cue as to where we ought to focus our attention at the start of every chapter. I respect the role epigraphs have played in fantasy classics like Dune and Wheel of Time, but I currently feel the number of novels employing them has become fatiguing, and I hope the trend of including them decreases, at least in the short-term. Notable examples: Fourth Wing (Empyrean Series, Swordcatcher, Furyborn (Empirium series)
A [Blank] of [Blank] and [Blank] Not much to say here other than…when are romantasy authors going to let this go?? 😮‍💨😮‍💨 While you could argue the true genesis of this title naming convention could be GRRM’s A Song of Ice of Fire, I think we can all agree that—for better or worse—it was the popularity of ACOTAR that sent this title style into the stratosphere, and at this point, it has become ubiquitous to the point of literal disorientation. To me there is nothing inherently wrong with this title style (though I would also argue there is nothing particularly gripping about it, at least not enough to warrant a trend of this size) but it basically renders all of these books—which are already of a similar vibe and style—virtually indistinguishable. As a reader on the hunt for new books to scratch that romantasy itch, it’s nearly impossible to tell the dozens of titles bearing this title apart, which means I have no sense which which ones I’ve read, which I haven’t, which caught my interest, which I started and didn’t care for, etc. I have idea how much of this is a consequence of publishers trying to capitalize on a known entity in order to make the most money and how much is just the fact that naming a book is really fucking hard, but good lord, what is it gonna take to stop this madness? Notable examples: quite literally too many to name
What do yall think? Do you agree, disagree? What are some fantasy trends you’d like to see go away/make a comeback

everyone talking about the kickstarter prices but like. the way four special edition hardcover books and a journal (with art) for $167 CAD is a steal 😭 yeah the shipping is going to be utterly atrocious and CC should definitely consider an option that ships everything all at once so it's lower but like the books themselves??? my swordcatcher special edition was $40 and it literally was just a normal book with an art print lmao
