Ladies and gentlemen, it’s official! I’m writing a musical!

For those of you in the community who have known me for a while, this is nothing new, but I’ve been working on it for quite awhile, so I finally want to unveil what I have so far.

The show is officially called “Tyrant! The Story of Robespierre” or just “Tyrant!” for short, and here’s my first concept for the album cover below!

As for the actual story and songs, right now I’m planning on having 16 songs per act, and I’ll format the songs I’ve written or am currently in the process of writing!

May You Ne’er Be Forgotten (basically charlotte’s ‘who lives who dies who tells your story’, her 11th hour power ballad, grand finale of the show)

I know that was a lot thrown at y’all, and obviously I’ve still got a long ways to go, but I’ll be working hard at it all summer, and I hope to have at least half of the first act finished by the end of this summer! I’ll keep working on asks too now that my schedule’s freed up, but I thought it’d be a fun announcement to share with all of you for Max’s birthday, and I can’t wait for you to see the rest of it! 2010 - Don Henley

Don Henley reached an out-of-court settlement with Republican Senatorial candidate Chuck DeVore who used parodies of two Eagles' hits for an election campaign without permission. 2002 - Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen scored his fifth UK No.1 album with 'The Rising', also No.1 in the US.

1979 - Lowell George

A benefit concert was held to raise money for Little Feat guitarist and singer Lowell George featuring members of his band plus Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt.

1975 - Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and his wife were both badly injured when the hire car he was driving spun off the road and crashed on the Greek island of Rhodes. Plant smashed both his ankle and his elbow, and was not fully fit for the best part of two years. A forthcoming North American tour had to be cancelled.

1968 - Newport Pop Festival

The second day of the two day Newport Pop Festival took place in Costa Mesa, California with Blue Cheer, Eric Burdon & The Animals, Grateful Dead, Illinois Speed Press, Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service and The Byrds. Over 100,000 fans attended the festival.

1967 - Monkees

A female Monkees fan stowed away on the bands plane between shows in Minneapolis and St Louis. The girl's father threatened to bring charges for transporting a minor across state lines.

1967 - Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd released their debut album The Piper At the Gates of Dawn on which most songs were penned by Syd Barrett. In subsequent years, the record has been recognised as one of the seminal psychedelic rock albums of the 1960s. When reviewed, by the two main UK music papers in the UK, Record Mirror and NME both gave the album four stars out of five. The album which was recorded at Abbey Road studios, London during the same time that The Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper peaked at No.6 on the UK album chart and failed to chart in the US.

1966 - The Troggs

The Troggs were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'With A Girl Like You', the group's only UK No.1 single.

1964 - The Kinks

The Kinks released 'You Really Got Me' on Pye Records in the UK. The influential distortion sound of the guitar was created after guitarist Dave Davies sliced the speaker cone of his guitar amplifier with a razor blade and poked it with a pin. The song became the group's US breakthrough hit reaching No.7 later in the year.

1958 - Ricky Nelson

Billboard introduced 'The Hot 100 Singles Chart', Ricky Nelson was at No.1 with 'Poor Little Fool'.

Day N Vegas 2022 Lineup Announced

The third Day N Vegas festival is happening this upcoming Labor Day and the lineup has been announced. Hiatus Kaiyote, Syd, J. Cole, Doechii, Summer Walker, Ravyn Lenae, Pink Siifu, Freddie Gibbs and J.I.D. are among artists performing at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds. Tickets are on sale and there are VIP packages and the option to bundle day passes with hotel rooms, nightclub guest lists, local deals and late-night dining. Both can be purchased through hotel partner Fuse Technologies. The bundles are Sza, J.Cole and Travis Scott will headline the event from Friday, September 2 to Sunday 4th. just like a kite

sanji has never flown a kite before, yet it describes exactly how he feels right now.

“is it almost up in the sky?” he shouts from the kitchen, his heart patters as he sees you attempt to fly the kite.

you’ve been running up and down the deck of the ship all day, trying to get the kite in the air, even if it was only for five seconds. sanji checked on your from the kitchen, and finally caught sight of the soft summer sun setting from behind you.

“no, i don’t think i’m catching the draft of wind just yet.” you take a deep breath, trying to calm your racing heart. when he gets a closer look at your face there’s a slight disappointed look in your eyes and a little pout on your lips that isn’t missed.

he acts on instinct, as any person with a kind heart would, “i can help if you’d like?” and places his hands over yours that are holding the kite with a tiny grip.

“oh, sure.” you feel the painted blush on your cheeks from embarrassment. but you also blush by the way sanji offers to help. you can’t get over the soft tone deep within his voice and how visible his caring heart is to you.

sanji begins running around the deck while you sit and take a break in a small chair under an umbrella. that is until you look over and see that the kite up flying across the sky. he smiles while gazing at the kite, proud that he was able to help you out.

“oh my gosh, it’s actually flying!” he laughs when he hears your peppy voice and trades the rod of string to your hands.

sanji examines the way the kite flies in the atmosphere, and how it’s grounded by your secure hands. he likes to think his feelings around you are just like the way the kite flies.

the kite loops up in the atmosphere, flying around with love, knowing you will always hold it’s string. you’ll be there for the kite and when it start to fall down, you’ll pick it back up. just like nights in the kitchen with sanji where he revealed his true emotions and feelings while you were right next to him.

“yeah, it’s flying.” he gazes at you slightly from the corner of his eyes knowing his heart will forever do swooning loops when around you, just like a kite in the sky.

Ace x Reader

They say love can be as fleeting as fireworks. Dazzling and bright one second, then extinguished by the darkness in the very next. But Ace wasn’t too sure if this feeling of his will dwindle as quickly as it came...

Year after year, it had always remained the same.

On that one special night in the middle of the summer heat, festivities would light up the decks of the Moby Dick. For what reason, no one was entirely sure, and when asked, a vague response would generally follow. Some says it’s to celebrate victory at some large fight years ago. Others claim it’s just their way of cooling down and relaxing from all the discomfort lingering in the air. Whatever it was, it didn’t really matter. At least not to Ace. What did matter, was that every year, your attitude towards the celebration remains the same. It seems as if you had a never ending plethora of excuses. One year, it’d be that you were feeling sick. Another, you’ll have a bunch of work to catch up on, even though none of the crew were given work a week prior. And sometimes, you’d just be already asleep, or at least that’s all Ace could tell from the dead silence coming from your locked room those nights.

But this year was going to be different, he vowed to himself. He was going to get you out of the room, one way or another, even if he’ll have to drag you by force. Now, Ace wasn’t completely heartless and ignorant to your needs. He knew you were shy and most definitely could not muster the confidence to mingle with the entire crew above deck. That’s why this year he took the time to plan out every single detail you could possibly use as an excuse to get away. Ace most definitely wasn’t a think-before-you-act person, so his efforts this time around was certainly commendable. Kicking out the newcomers that wanted to snag a seat in the crow’s nest, he secured a spot away from the crowds for you. Those newcomers could try again another year, plus, seniors first right?

When night fell and the jovial commotions only steadily increase, Ace couldn’t help the giddy look on his face as he headed towards your room. The majority of the crew were already above deck so the halls were unsurprisingly empty, making for a quicker trip to your cabin. Stopping outside your door, he knocked a few times, which was met with a muffled cry of surprise and followed immediately by a short sigh. The door opened slightly, and your face came into view.

“Ace...?” You questioned, a look of regret quickly dawning your face, realizing rather quickly what he was up to.

“S-sorry but I’m really not sure if I could attend this year either...” You apologetic tone was quickly cut off by Ace.

“I heard there would be fireworks this year. You always wanted to see those right?” He tried to contain his smirk when your eyes widen slightly in response.

That faint glitter in your eyes were gone as soon as it came, replaced by your typical anxious demeanor, “W-well... yes, b-but I don’t know... there’s just too much peop-“

Ace was quick to cut you off again, this time a grin clear on his face, “We got the crow’s nest all to ourselves tonight.”

While you were busy blinking in disbelief and asking how, Ace merely laughed and took the opportunity to grab you by the wrist and lead you through the hallway. Though your frantic, albeit quiet, calls for him to wait, he took the lack of resistance from your side as a sign to keep going. Eventually those were replaced with soft sighs of exasperation, to which Ace only smiled wider at.

The path to the crow nest was crowded with partying crew-mates before you two actually reached your destination. Settling down in the lookout, you yet again let out a sigh, though this time a sigh of relief, for getting through the mob.

“I’m not really sure if-“ Your uncertainty was gone in a flash and quite literally. Just as those words had left your mouth, a loud boom in the background had you turning to look behind you. The first round of fireworks had already begun, and the once pitch black sky was painted in streaks of nearly every color imaginable. Flowers of red, gold, green and blue blossomed in the sky before their lights were extinguished. Only to be replaced immediately with more and more fireworks that shoot in seemingly endless streams into the night.

Your breath caught in your throat, eyes wide in amazement. It’s not as if it’s some kind of once in a blue moon miracle, but fireworks were truly rare. Gunpowder usually went to the use of guns or cannons, so to actually use it for entertainment was a privilege of the wealthy or grandiose of a major holiday. You’ve read all about it in books and seen the photos, but nothing could compare to the real experience. None of the words could describe how the loud sounds would fade into background noises when your eyes are entranced. How the fireworks could brighten up the night sky and dull out even the brightest of the surrounding stars. The images and memory would be burned forever into your mind, that you were sure of. But even then, you didn’t want this to end.

Ace wasn’t looking at the fireworks, at least not completely. He could see them through the reflection in your eyes, but mainly he was staring at your wonderstruck expression. Just as you couldn’t stop looking at the blooming lights, Ace couldn’t tear his gaze off of your face. Your mouth slightly agape, but lifted at the corners to form a bright smile. Your wide eyes glistened in fascination, taking in everything you could. To him, you looked practically ethereal.

“Thank you...” Your voice caught him off guard.

It was Ace’s turn for his breath to get stuck in his throat when you turned to him with a beaming smile. The corners of your eyes crinkled in undeniable delight, and a smile stretched across your face. The new fireworks bursting into light behind you only served to emphasize your features, with warm hues of red, orange, and yellow dancing across your skin. But most important of all, was that your smile was aimed at him. He wondered to himself if the soft tint of pink on your cheeks was due to the lights, or if he had imagined it. Or perhaps...

Did Ace called you shy before? He wasn’t too sure of that right now. As you turned back to looking at the never ending fireworks, he finally managed to turn his head away, in an attempt to cover his burning cheeks. And it most certainly wasn’t due to the summer heat.

How do you make dividers- I’m literally so nervous since it’s my first time publishing, now time to find a way to delete my account and disappear off the face of earth forever :’)

If there’s any confusion about (Y/n) and Ace’s relationship, they’re kinda like close friends on the ship. Whether or not there’s any secret mutual pining... that I’ll leave up to your imagination 😊

Also, please excuse any ooc-ness of Ace in the story, I love him as a character, but my inability to write meant I couldn’t do him justice 🥲 rereads for the hundredth time and cringes at all the smirking and grinning I wrote

Authors note: I finished writing this a week ago and was hesitant to post it just because I was too shy to do it at first but now it is currently 12:27am and I have work in 7 hours why not. I hope you all enjoy this little story of my FAVORITE character on  One Piece Marco. Words can’t describe him they honestly can’t I love him <3 Thank you Syd for letting me participate in this event :) oh god this will be my first published work I ever did. This had brought my confidence up just a bit more. And I think I would be able to start posting more of my work that I have only my laptop and possibly taking some request from people. also this is my first time posting on my laptop I’m hoping I did this right! Title: Red string of fate SWF

You kept having this  reoccurring dream of a silhouette figure that was blurred out the only thing you were able to see was the red string tied on their left ring finger.  On the other end of the string it was wrapped around your left ring finger. The closer you stepped to one another trying to see the persons face you would wake up...Waking up your half lidded eyes looking up at the ceiling letting out a restless sigh. Raising up your left hand up you could see the red string from time to time. The witch on the island told me the red string represents  a soulmate connection. The reason the dreams are happening more often is because they are close. Her words echoed in the back of my head often “your destined to be with this person your souls are connected” 

Finally, deciding to get out of bed and getting ready for the day.  You felt yourself more anxious/ nervous . What if I’m not what they expected and reject me?  Shaking your head getting rid of all the negativity out of my mind. I’m just going to let it happen ands where it goes. Entering the plaza seemed pretty busy for a Friday morning. You entered the shop of the elder witch. “Morning Eloise.” Smiling at her. She was bit older I would come help her run the shop and pick up items she needed to be stocked on. 

“Morning my dear. I’m glad you're here.” She gotten up from her chair. “I’m actually going to need you to pick up some items for me today.” Handing me a list.

“I picked up sage and mugwort a few days ago you ran out already?” You asked her seeing both of them on the list. 

“Oh yes I used it all. If you’re could go now it would be best.” She smiled pushing you out the door. Looking at the list once again memorizing the list. You made it to her herb shop there were only a few people on the store. Grabbing the the items on the list and the last thing was the mugwort. Seeing the jar of the dry herbs on the highest shelf. Trying to reach it you even were standing on your tippy toes you still couldn’t reach it. A hand reach out for it bringing it down to me. 

“Saw ya struggling to get it down. Here ya go yoi.” The guy said. You turned facing the man wanting to thank him when you stopped  for a moment. The tall blonde with a lazy smile looked at me. Why is my heart beating rapidly just looking at him. Feeling a bit embarrassed for looking at him too long and not saying anything you finally manage to get some words out.

“Thank you.” You said as you went  grab the jar from his hand  you seen a red string tied on his left ring finger following the the red string the other end was tied to yours. It’s him he standing in front of me. What do I do. Mentally freaking out making your cheeks burn. He looked at you curiously.

“You okay? You don’t look too well.” He said a bit concerned.

“No I’m fine just a bit stuffy in here I should get going.” You quickly said as you grabbed the jar. Now he’s going to think I’m weird. Oh god first impression fail. Walking to the counter paying for items. You walked  out the store. Through the window your eyes met with his he  gave you a smile. Your cheeks still burning red you walked back to the Eloise shop. Why did I just walk away? Now regretting the decision that you left the herb shop. The red string on your finger didn’t disappear it was still showing. Eloise must have known he was coming and seen where he was going to be at.  You made it back to the shop. 

“oh you're back so soon?”  Eloise said placing some Palo santos on the counter. 

“Did you send me there because you knew he was going to be there.” Asking her placing the items down on the counter one hand on your hip. 

“Did you get his name?” She said taking the items and placing them on the back counter walking back one hand on her hip the other resting on the counter. “ was he cute?”

Running your fingers through your hair  “I didn’t get his name.... I was too busy staring at him like a creep... I couldn’t help it though he was really cute.. Once I stopped staring of him then trying to say something I saw the string i got completely nervous  I left quickly.... And now the red string won’t disappear.”  Looking at your hands and the red string. Eloise let out a little sigh. 

“______ my dear this is your opportunity...don’t let it get away. I let mines get away from me years ago and I regret not following her it has been over 10 years and I still haven’t forgotten her.” She walked to me cupping my cheeks. “Don’t make my mistake. You deserve to be happy in this life time.”

She was right...all the relationships you had didn’t last a lot of heart breaks over the years. It lowered your self esteem you put so much effort in every relationship to try to make it work but they didn’t last. I do deserve to be happy I’m not going to ruin this. “I hope I’m not too late..” You said grabbing your bag getting ready to walk back to the shop. Praying and hoping he was a slow shopper and didn’t leave.  

The door opened you seen the tall blonde a hand in his pocket. “Hey you kinda left in a rush. I wanted to see if you were really okay yoi.” He said walking a bit closer. 

Eloise seen before her the red string that connected you both. She slowly walked to the back of the shop pretending to be busy as she wanted to hear the conversation.  Looking at the blonde the pink on your cheeks arose once again. “How did you find me?” 

He smiled as he lifted his left hand the red string that you were both connected too. “I followed the red string of fate. The story goes if you see the red string tied to your left ring finger and it’s connected to another person your destined to be with this person your souls are connected.”

“You knew.” The pink hues on your cheeks appeared brighter you could have swore steam was coming out of your ears. 

A throat chuckled came from him as he nodded. “As soon as you entered the shop you caught my attention before I noticed the string tied to your finger. I never seen such a beautiful woman before yoi.  You looked so focused on your list it was cute.” closing his eyes for a moment a small smile on his lips formed  “So this is where you been all my life ______.” 

He knew my name already. I don’t recall my name being mentioned at the shop today. “How did you” before you could finish the sentence he responded 

“The owner of the herb shop gave me your name. I should have introduce myself sooner but boy your quick. I’m Marco pleasure to meet you yoi.” He reached for my hand. As our hands touched one another you saw little scenes of your future with him. Being held in his arms, Holding his hand, waking up next to him and sharing your first kiss with one another. Both of your hands lingered in one another’s for a moment longer before drawing your hands back. Tucking your hair behind your ear both eyes meeting again. “I know this is a bit bold of a move but would you like to join me for a coffee yoi?” He asked  

“Yes I would like that.” The tint of pink dusted your cheeks. “I know a really good place we can go for coffee.” Suggesting to him.

“Well in that case I will follow your lead ______.” His hand reached for yours. You gladly reached for his hand the feeling of his warm soothing hand against mines made my anxious feeling melt away this time. “No needs to be anxious anymore... this is were our journey begins yoi.” He kissed the back of her hand.

Summary : Oikawa never forgot you from your first meeting. After days, he meets you again in a beach. Will he be lucky enough to ask you out?

I was listening to Butter by BTS and Trust me I love it!! Its released today and I am so smitten by it. Please give it a shot, you wont regret it.

“Iwa chan, I told you we could win todays match”, Oikawa wiped the sweat off his neck with the white towel in his hands.

Today Aoba Johsai had a practice match with Fukuoka Gakuen and Oikawa lead the team to the victory. The sky turned into the beautiful orange colour and the team decided to go home for the day.

Oikawa ran towards Iwazumi and placed his arm around his shoulders. “So let me continue the story from before Iwa chan, that fan was so into me and wanted to date me and I-”

“Um, excuse me”, A voice made Oikawa to stop his story for which Iwazumi was greatful. They turned around and saw you. Your eyes lit up seeing them so close. Especially that adorable player that you always admired for a long while. The captain realised you were a fangirl instantly as he saw the stars in your eyes.

Oikawa stepped towards you and said, “Ah, I’m sorry but, I am tired and can’t give you my sign right now”

“Actually, I didn’t come here to get your sign but, Iwazumi Hajime san’s”, you replied and Oikawa froze in his place while Iwazumi’s eyes widened. It was the first time where a person came towards him to take his sign and the first one who straight up said it to Oikawa, who always teased Iwa having no fans.

You went towards Iwazumi and took his sign, while all this time, Oikawa stayed like a stone. You smiled widely looking at the sign and after thanking him, you left. Iwazumi looked at Oikawa who was still staring at your back as you walked away. That was the first time, Oikawa felt his heart skip a beat for something outside Volleyball.

“Oye! DumbassKawa!! What happened?”, he said shaking him rigorously. The setter turned to his friend and saw the proud smile on his face.

“So, now you can’t say I don’t have any fans ShittyKawa”, he said and then saw that his captain’s cheeks turned red like a tomato. “Iwa chan, I don’t know why but, my heart is beating like crazy fast”, he confessed. Iwazumi understood what happened immediately and chuckled, making his captain even more confused.

“Wha… What happened Iwa chan? Why are you laughing?”, he asked without any clue. Iwazumi turned to him and said, “Looks like someone got a crush”. Then it hit Oikawa like a ton of bricks. He was definitely in many, like many relationships and just got dumped that morning. But it didn’t affect him in any way. ‘So… this is how a having a crush feels like’, he thought.

“And… don’t even make me mention those red cheeks of yours DumbKawa”, Oikawa’s thoughts were broken as Iwazumi stated and walked away from him.

“Ah!! Iwa chan! Wait for me”, the setter ran behind his best friend to catch up with him. But he wondered how to even see you again? Would you even appear before him? He didn’t even knew your name nor your high school name. He sighed and walked towards his house after he and Iwazumi took separate paths.

Even after many days, Oikawa didn’t forget about you but he didn’t let this bother his concentration towards the game. As they won another match, the volleyball team decided to go to beach to celebrate their win.

The gang went to the beach after dropping their bags in the hotel. They were so hyped up when they saw the beach before them. They all got chaotic and played in the water. As some of them played with a beach ball.

That night after having a great meal, everyone slept peacefully except for one. Oikawa couldn’t sleep, so he left the place and started to walk in the beach aimlessly. The beauty of the beach increased much more at night. It was calmer and peaceful, which lacked in Oikawa’s life as he was always surrounded by cheers and claps.

As he walked he caught a glimpse of a person eating Popsicle. A lady, when he observed carefully. It could be because of his footsteps that made him to have eye contact with yours. His eyes widened at your sight, his heart started to beat faster and his cheeks turned red. This was so unexpected and he didn’t even imagine running into you here. He almost searched every high school he went for matches. Hoping you’d be in any and would come to meet Iwazumi again.

You recognised him and muttered, “Aoba Johsai Oikawa?!”, the moment he heard his name coming from your lips, he had to take even deeper breaths to maintain posture and not faint because you were here for real.

“You okay?”, you enquired as you moved closer to him as he seemed like in pain to you. He nodded his head and gave you a small smile. ‘TALK TO HER!!!!’, his head was exploding but, for the first time in life, Oikawa couldn’t talk.

“Great then. Need company captain?”, you asked and placed the Popsicle near your lips and stared at the sea.

He took the chance and stood beside you. ‘AHHH!!! She called me Captain! That’s so adorable! What should I talk? How should I talk’, his mind and heart were playing games with him till you initiated a conversation.

“Do you wanna have this?”, you asked as you offered him another popsicle which you had in your bag. He stayed still and didn’t answer making it awkward. Actually he was a mess, he didn’t even believe his eyes. You, his first and the biggest crush was now offering him a Popsicle.

“So… you don’t want?”, you raised an eyebrow at him as you started to pull your hand away but he stopped you.

“Wait!! I’ll take it!” he exclaimed as he looked into your eyes. You chuckled and handed him the Popsicle. He couldn’t even think properly now. ‘Ah great! I messed up’, he thought as he looked the sand underneath him.

“Its beautiful isn’t it”, you said and his eyes landed on you. He followed your gaze to the sea and smiled softly.

“Its peaceful and calming, that’s why I like the ocean so much. At night its beauty even increases”, you said making his smile even wider, because he thought the same.

“Especially the stars make it even prettier”, at last he said a proper sentence without messing up making you turn towards him. “That’s what I thought too”, you smiled at him not knowing, how much of an effect you had on him.

“So, what are you doing here?”

“Ah! My… My team won a match and we thought of celebrating so we came here. We will leave after a couple of days though… what are you doing here? Isn’t it dangerous this late at night”, he enquired wanting to know the answer. But internally he was grateful to meet you here.

“My friend’s brother had a beach wedding yesterday and she invited me too. I’ll leave tomorrow though. So I thought to look at the beach one more time before I left”, you answered and continued, “Maybe I really should go back now”, you said looking back at the hotel and he didn’t fail to notice it too.

“Let… let me drop you”, he said and walked with you towards the hotel. Still eating the Popsicle. “You people are really amazing players Oikawa san”, you said taking your last bite of the ice pop.

He heard this compliment from many people, but yours made a difference to him. He was on cloud nine when you said that.

“Thanks. May... I ask for your name”, he desperately needed to know about you.

“I’m Y/N L/N”, you replied making him light up.

“So, L/N san, Can I ask you what place you study at?”, he wanted to get as many answers as possible. Because he was scared. Scared that you may not appear again.

“Ah, its Fukuoka Gakuen, the place where we first met. Maybe you don’t remem-”

“I Remember!!! So, that was your high school”, he cursed himself for not guessing it, or even asking advice from Iwa chan.

“Woah! I’m surprised that you do”, you said as you gave him acknowledged look making him blush and smile at the same time as he ate the last bite of his ice pop.

“Ah, So… We are here”, you said as you stopped at the entrance of the hotel and but he got dejected at how soon you guys reached the place and how he had to let you go now.

“Thanks for accompanying me Oikawa san”, you said and walked towards the hotel. But suddenly you felt a strong grip on your wrist making you stop and look back. Oikawa was looking down but was trying to say something. His grip was strong but wasn’t harsh or hurting.

“Y/N san, do you think, if I come to your school, will you meet me?”, he didn’t look at you as he asked that.

Your heart skipped a beat when you heard it but, you had to reply, “Why does the Mr. Popular want to even meet me?”, you asked only for him to get closer to you. You knew he was taller than you, but… with him this close, you couldn’t avoid noticing that. You realised how the articles about him were all true on how handsome and well-built he was.

Oikawa looked deep into your eyes and replied, “I never once forgot about you from the day we met. Trust me, I wanna take you out. I’m worried if I even will get another chance, so please tell me”, it seemed more like pleading in the end.

You gulped and nodded, “I’ll meet you, if you come to my school”, and failing to hide your blush you covered your face with your other hand. He lit up and thanked you. After he let your hand go, he tricked you to give your number to him by using puppy eyes at you. Damn it was impossible for you to say no to him at that point.

He waited for you to get into the hotel before walking towards his hotel. He felt warmth in his heart as he looked at your number in his phone. And you also felt your heart beat becoming faster as you thought about him.

The next day you did get a text from him telling you to save his number too. And from then you messaged each other. And after 4 days he even came to your school to meet you. Damn you got stares from many people but neither you nor he cared, because it was turning into something just as the beautiful as the sea view you saw together.

You both walked side by side with each other as he sneakily slid his hand into yours and linked fingers together. When you gave him a questioning gaze, he just smiled brightly and walked ahead. “I ship us”, he murmured making you blush even more. It was definitely turning into something beautiful.

Meat Loaf 1990 Irish tour dates/Ireland’s Ballroom circuit

With the death of Meat Loaf aka Michael Lee Aday (1947-2022), I remembered he played a tour of Ireland in 1990. I distinctly remember seeing the above advert in my local paper the Meath Chronicle and wondering why a superstar like him would be playing a rural venue like the Oasis. As you can see this was a place where cover bands and discos would usually be hosted. I used to past it regularly and remember it on a hill in some kind of no-man’s land between Co. Cavan and Co. Monaghan (it’s long gone now). A few years later I attended one of its discos which is another story. Outside of Dublin’s National Stadium and Ulster Hall, the vast majority of the tour dates were held in similarly unlikely venues such as a youth centre in Carlow on a Tuesday night and a community centre in Moate, Co. Westmeath. I wasn’t a fan of Meat Loaf and was too young to legally attend anyway but was very curious about it all. 

Meat Loaf was broke and out of favour at the time and was happy to take the opportunity to play in Ireland (at least 15 dates in 22 days). In this audio interview with promoter Tommy Swarbrigg he goes into some detail about how the tour came about. There are a few other accounts online which paint a picture of a somewhat ramshackle tour. However, in the main the audience seems to have rapturously enjoyed the gigs and they were very well attended. Ronan Casey’s account here is brilliant but gets the year wrong and Colm O’Callaghan also writes about it and other encounters he had with Meat Loaf in Ireland over the years. 

There is always something compelling about the darker periods of an artist’s life, I’m thinking of figures such as Syd Barrett or Nico, the latter being the subject of  one of my favourite books Songs They Never Play on the Radio by James Young, which covers her later life in ‘80s Manchester. I’m sure if someone who was there wrote a book about this tour it would become a cult read too. Sometimes this can be a time for redemption and rebirth and luckily for Meat Loaf this was the case. I don’t know all the ins and outs but he has credited this tour with helping him get the money together to make another album with Jim Steinman. This would turn out to be Bat Out Of Hell II in 1993 and the rest as they say is history.

Tommy Swarbrigg brought him back again just a few months later for an outdoor gig at Conna Castle in Fermoy, Co. Cork and MCD must have recognised his pulling power and booked him for the first Feile Festival in Thurles, Co. Tipperary before the summer was out. He continued to be popular in Ireland and would return many times to play large venues. His first live show here seems to have been in 1982 (see all of his large Irish gigs listed here) and you can see him interviewed on The Late Late Show in 1984 when he was at the first peak of popularity.

I was curious what the exact itinerary had been and couldn’t find hardly anything specific online until John Foyle sent me a link to the work of Paul Byrne from a post on the Irish Rock Bands Facebook group. I only had to fill in one venue blank he had, added the extra Dublin show at the end of the tour and included his two one-off concerts here later that same year. I also double checked the list with lighting crew member Jack Cawley (you can read an amusing story he shared as a public post about the gig at the Oasis venue here). 

I was very surprised he returned so quickly but the appetite was obviously there. It’s possible there were a few extra dates so if anyone knows for sure please get in touch and I can update the list. The support band seems to have been Irish band Lightning Strikes. Meat Loaf brought his usual backing band The Neverland Express.

Meat Loaf returned this same year for these one-offs. There may have been more gigs in June as well.

While researching I realised this live circuit has not been well archived online. I did find just a few adverts for national tours in Hot Press and have scanned them to give you an idea of the typical itinerary and venues. National and local newspapers would no doubt be a better source for this kind of information if someone had access to those archives. Some of the venues still exist but many do not. While none of these were hip bands, they were successful and generated an income for themselves and local economies. Not to mention the memories and experiences of the audiences, crews and staff. I’ve archived adverts for tours by Dr. Hook, Smokie, Royal Flush and Gina and the Champions. For good measure at the bottom of the piece I’ve also included Status Quo’s Irish tours of the ‘88 and ‘90. This is because in Ronan Casey’s piece it seems that the Meat Loaf tour opened up a route for their tour but in actual fact it already existed.

Hopefully this will bring some joy, nostalgia, jog some memories or help anyone who is interested in this period. Please feel free to share any of these images as they do not belong to me or anyone really. Like it or not it’s all part of our shared cultural heritage and social history. 

Dr. Hook played many of the same venues as Meat Loaf soon after.

What I like about this Smokie advert is that they didn’t even need to list the venues! This was the type of scene you knew where they would be playing or just got to town and looked for the poster.

It was easy enough to find Status Quo’s Irish tour information online. In fact they played here in 1988 as well so maybe it was they who paved the way for Meat Loaf?

Hockey season turned into wedding season.

Right now I’m watching Matt and Sydney getting married with my boyfriend to the left of me. Looking down in my lap, Mat’s thumb was unconsciously rubbing my ring finger on my left hand. When I looked up at Mat, he was already looking at me with loving eyes. Just one look at him and my heart could burst with love. Mat smiled at me and I gave him a soft smile. 

“You may now kiss the bride.”

Everyone was cheering Matt and Syd as they shared their first kiss as married couple. I stood up with a huge smile on my face, cheering with everyone else. Watching them walk down the aisle hand in hand, Mat pulled me in for a side hug. 

As the wedding festivities continued, it was finally time to hit the dance floor. With champagne in my left hand, I was dancing with one of Sydney’s little cousins that I met at a hockey game before. I twirled her around, smiling as I heard her laugh. 

Mat’s POV

I was talking to Tito about off-season plans when I looked at (Y/N) on the dance floor. Taking a sip of my beer with a small smile on my face, I watch her laughing and dancing along to whatever song was playing. 

“So I was thinking of taking a trip to California or something like that. What about you?” 

“What? Oh, I think (Y/N) and I are gonna go visit her family down in Georgia.” I said turning back to my conversation with Tito. A slower song came on and (Y/N) came over to me. I pulled her hand back and then set our drinks down at the nearest table. 

“We won’t get those back you know?” She said looking up at me. 

“I don’t care. What I care about is having a dance with you.” (Y/N) laughed lightly and shook her head looking down. 

My right arm was around her waist while my left hand was holding her right hand lightly. Her head rested on my chest, I gave her a kiss on the top of her head and squeezed her hand lightly. She looked up at me and smiled. 

“I know we haven’t talked much about the future, but I do know that I want to marry you.” I said with a huge smile on my face. 

“Really?”

“Of course. I love you.”

“I love you Matty. I imagine myself marrying you too.” (Y/N) said with a twinkle in her eyes and a huge smile on her face matching mine. 

“How do you picture our future wedding?”

“Well, it would be in the fall. Summer is too hot for me, but we’ll have to have it before hockey training starts though. I don’t want to interfere with you training for the season. Oh! I would have it before football starts. You know how my family is about football.”

“Hmm fall sounds good babe. Would you want it indoor or outdoor?”

“I would have the ceremony outdoors and the reception indoors. I don’t want flies around while I’m eating. What about you? What do you picture?”

“I see us getting married somewhere warm. Maybe Georgia since that’s where you’re from. It would be easier for your family too.”

“What about your family?”

“I can always fly them down here. Plus I think they would like the to be somewhere warm. When would you want to get married?”

“Maybe in the next or so. I think I would want a year to plan in instead of 6 months.”

“Guess I better start ring shopping, eh?”

(Y/N) laughed quietly, mumbling “Yeah I guess so.” 

She leaned her head against my chest, closing her eyes to take in the moment with a smile on her face. I rested my cheek against the top of her head and pulled her closer to me. As we continued to sway along to the song, I started thinking of how I had already bought the ring. I just need to plan the proposal.
