Just saw an ad for hulu where they edited clips of the Bear together. The whole thing was just different characters saying "hi" but the start of it was two separate clips of the Bear edited together of Sydney and Carmy saying hi all cute and coy and they made it look very flirty/romantic even though the clips were her nervous on her first day and him bumping into Claire, they 100% made it look like they were talking to each other anyways Netflix official accounts aren't the only silly shippers hulu does it too apparently.

CARMY'S FLOWERS, SYDNEY'S FLOWERS
Everyone knew Carmy liked getting flowers from the farmers market.
They brightened his mood
Flowers from the farmers market were a CARMY thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it raised one curious eyebrow of Tina's when Syd posted a couple pics of HER farmer's market flowers. Similar to the ones Carmy bought
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tina said nothing.

hi these are some of my sydcarmy headcanons:
* i love reading fics where they both realize they like each other and then start furiously making out but. also. what if carmy asks syd out and she’s a little skeptical about it at first? but she agrees to go on the date anyway — and carmy takes her out to a little fancy joint by the river and is so nervous about messing up that his hands are so so so shaky and he can’t even pour the wine into their glasses right. so he fumbles through some half apology half speech about how he’s just really happy she’s here and how he really really really likes her and how he’s honestly glad that she was willing to give him a chance and how he’s very anxious because she looks so pretty in that dress she’s wearing. and syd realizes that, holy shit, he really does like her — and she thinks she really likes him too. so they wine and they dine and when the night is over he takes her home, walks her up to her door, and doesn’t kiss her because he says that’s something he’d like to do on the third date, if she’ll have him. and of course, she says yes, she would like to go on more dates with him — she says yes like he just proposed to her, because they’re so intense about everything they do.
* i think that syd and carmy, carmy especially, are the type of people to be vaguely private about their relationship. like, it’s very obvious that they are together, they won’t hide it — if you see them in person, if you see the way they look at each other, move with each other, the way they talk to each other, you will know that they’re together. they will casually mention each other in interviews and articles, refer to the other as their partner. but they will not post a million pictures of each other on social media, they are not that couple. there will be the occasional, slightly vague post — a picture of carmy in his chef whites, back turned to the camera, posted to syd’s instagram account to congratulate him on The Bear’s fifth year of service. A congratulations to chef sydney adamu on her james beard nomination tweeted to carmy’s twitter account. and if they ever do attain that level of fame, there will be the occasional pap shot of them walking back from a deli, or a farmer’s market (in true JAW fashion). but unless you’re close to them you’ll only see that surface level to their relationship
* i know that they’re roughly the same height but in my head sydney is just slightly taller than carmy, just by a few inches, nothing too big. carmy is not the type of person that cares about height, it’s not a big insecurity of his, and deep down, he finds the similarity in height between him and syd to be quite grounding and comforting. he likes being able to hug her and comfortably put his chin on her shoulder. he likes how it doesn’t feel awkward when they put their arms around each other, and how neither of them have to bend down or get on their toes to kiss each other.
* another thing i absolutely love in fics — when syd just gets the opportunity to talk about her hair. i don’t think carmy is ignorant, but realistically, he does not know about, for instance, the difference between 2b and 4c hair (as in, the labels) and how to care for 4c hair, which (i’m pretty sure) syd has. like, i think hair care would be such an important aspect of their relationship — syd teaches him about protective styles, tells him why she sleeps with a satin scarf wrapped around her braids, what silk presses are and why she has to spend a good twenty minutes wrapping it up each night before she goes to bed. and carmy helps her take her braids out, because four hands are faster than two, he helps her put twists in, helps her blow dry and comb it out the night before her next appointment. and sixth months into their relationship, he becomes a walking glossary — he will tell you what leave-in conditioner is, what edge control is for, why you shouldn’t buy cantu products, the textural difference between synthetic and human hair. and secretly, he thinks to himself, this will also be useful information for him to know if he and syd ever have kids one day because yes — carmy doesn’t do things halfway and he is already thinking that far ahead.

It's not about platonic relationships and you know it.
At this point, the haters are hating, and the show's people are cosigning it. So, que será será. 🤷🏽‍♀️
I hadn't heard anything about viewers wanting more depictions of platonic relationships on tv until now. And I find it all very odd. I won't speculate on it too much, but their reasonings for it have no basis or merit. But okay, the showrunners said there will be no romance, but then they added a love interest. Could be that they were asked to add it? I don't know.
Bottom line, because I don't really have the energy to debate this and the show is really good despite all the hoopla over romance, it's not even about that; people have been shipping characters for forever. Now all of a sudden we should question it because of this particular popular show and push for more platonic relationships. Hmmm??
I don't watch shows for romantic subplots, I don't look for it, but as an objective viewer I do notice romantic chemistry between characters if it hasn't already been established on the show. Most people notice romantic chemistry between characters and they ship them. It's perfectly fine and should not change how you watch a show. You either love it or you don't. I just find all the negativity of this SydCarmy ship very disconcerting. Why does it matter and who is it hurting? There was clearly something there but naysayers choose to be blind to it. That's fine, whatever. Just don't tell me I'm delusional because I am not.
The discourse is great for marketing but it kind of leaves a sour taste in one's mouth. Like why is this even a topic of conversation that the media feels they need to address? (I hope this discourse doesn't give the actors a complex. I would stay far from it.)
I like that Tumblr is mostly a safe space for people with common sense and decency because Twitter and Reddit have run amuck with haters. I don't think I'll be saying much more on the subject, I don't care what the show does with these characters. I will still watch it because I like it and there is so much more to these incredible cast of characters to explore. We're only 2 seasons in. Let these writers tell whatever story they're going to tell. I'll just enjoy all the SydCarmy posts on here because it's cute, and accurate. 🙂
Ciao! ☀️

Yeah, re-watching now, so BEAR with me. The whole scene of Marcus and Sydney FaceTiming while he was in Copenhagen was Storer’s lame attempt to ship Syd with someone else to know how it went. It didn’t go as well as SydCarmy, obviously. Otherwise S2EP9 would have been totally different. [And S3].
He was testing the waters and the viewers (us) were his focus group. The result of this shipper experiment: Team SydCarmy beats all the other teams, it’s still the largest and true driving force of the whole fandom. Even though there is a small shipper team that actually roots for Syd + Marcus, they exist. OK. Good for them.
So my point: I’m totally fine with Storer not spoon-feeding us. Cool! But try to force a whole bunch of Bolony into our mouths?! Fuck no! So… like I said, my theory is that not only Storer is slow-burning Syd and Carmy since S1, but also, business-wise, and marketing-wise, he wants to keep several exit points open to keep the viewers guessing. AND most importantly: he started out as a platonic and then after seeing the chemistry between J & A and the viewers' response, he read the room, and BOOM! He turned into a shipper, hence: Braciole and Omelette. He’s playing the long game here and diverting us a lot along the way. He’s into twists and turns to make the plot plot. I can get behind that writing style. Sure. Now, am I patient enough for this?
Tumblr media
Ask me later, after S3.

If you like The Bear and SydCarmy you should watch the movie Burnt. Here’s why it hasn’t left my mind since I watched it! It’s pretty much required viewing to me at this point.
Mild Spoilers Below
Adam, the main character and head chef, is who I feel Carmy and Mikey are based on. There are addiction issues, ego, ingenuity, ambition, volatility, loneliness, self loathing, everybody in love with him but refusal to acknowledge, etc.
Helene is who I think Sydney reflects. She’s intelligent, talented and is essentially poached by Adam to work with him. She comes into the restaurant and updates/improves his cooking efficiency, similar to what Sydney did in s1.
Adam violently screams and grabs Helene and she quits. This reminded me of Review 😫 although it is much worse, Helene returns as does Sydney…
There is a woman from Adam’s past who still wants to be with him because they just make sense and she’s incredibly beautiful. (Carmy/Claire) she’s literally the daughter of his greatest mentor like that’s who he SHOULD be with, but Adam has to grow and learn from his past not go backwards.
Helene finds him in the fish market early that morning. “She smelled great.” “Yeah but you smell nice.” At that point you know their dynamic is shifting 🤭
*Brief Note* I need the bear to step it up. Need Carmy feeding Sydney like tomorrow what the hell?!! And then using the same spoon! Seems pretty common for chefs to do and spitting in the same bowl is not enough 👀😭
Ok back to the movie! Adam and Helene!!! That’s all I’m going to say there as to not spoil it, but it will confirm all of your theories about what happens when you work so closely with someone.
Adam learning to trust his new family, trust his mentee, trust Helene, show his appreciation to Tony is how they were able to get the star. Adam had to let go of his past, his control issues, and let people in and allow them to help because even though he’s the best, he’s not always equipped mentally to handle all of it so he has to lean on his family. 😩😩😩 if that’s not the bear then idk what is.

THEM GIVING CICERO THE BUSINESS PITCH LIKE PROFESSIONALS WHILE THE ALARM GOES OFF IN THE BACKGROUND i'm sobbing
"he's not our uncle" "well richie's not your cousin" "HEARD AND RESENTED" this scene is amazing
"i don't mind it" oh carmy. that's not great.
um. cicero's looking between syd and carm as they argue about carmy getting vs retaining the star? no reason for that cut, the scene would linger on carm and syd arguing since they're the speakers, but it chooses to go to cicero watching them with that look on his face? yeah there's no reason for that apart from, well the obvious reason. adding cicero to the They've Been Knowing club with tina and 80% of the viewers of this show
carmy putting the whole land/restaurant/everything up as collateral -- not only is it their only choice, let's be real, but also it sets up an interesting dichotomy -- while carmy doesn't wanna lose, would it lead to his happiness? i'm still feeling that 1) they'll succeed by the skin of their teeth and 2) carmy will end up stepping away after creating a Good Spot to work and eat at
gosh the sydcarmy banter is so GOOD this episode. sure hope no incel stalker chick comes by to ruin that or anything, that would be a damn shame
"you want a star, yeah?" "i think it'd be nice" "godspeed" yeah i think that's where it's gonna go. this is carmy's namesake, but it's syd's ship to helm ultimately, and it's her that's gonna get the star (with help from the crew of course!)
"TREMENDOUS" "thank you" the sarcastic tremendous?? after it's the word he used to describe her dish in s1 and that they flirted over?? this is flirting right now thank you i am Flapping My Hands in glee
I CALLED IT WITH TINA!!! AND SHE'S SO HAPPY IT'S SO CUTE!!! carmy talking about finding people eager to learn and syd immediately thinks of tina, it's wonderful
calling it now, the people who are gonna become Bedrocks of the restaurant (with carmy/syd leading of course and nat on project management) are Tina as the new sous, Marcus finally fulfilling that copehagen storyline and really diving into patisserie, and...i'm gonna say Richie -- giving him purpose, they mention that he doesn't have his food handler's license as foreshadowing, and he's gonna use his natural charisma and knowledge of people/the area to good use. def front of the house for him. also balances the giant personality (carmy/syd) in the back of the house
eff it i'd love for pete to get involved too, he's gotta have a marketable skill. handling Difficult People in the restaurant? or oh my land, helping out in HR. if he can deal with the berzattos he can do HR
bring back louie i miss him. he can get suspended again as a treat

I sometimes like adding to the discourse on my favorite shows to see if others felt or viewed it the way I did. It's usually fun, but for The Bear...hmmm.
I just want to leave my two pennies on the show and this SydCarmy ship (I've never been a shipper but I do recognize romantic chemistry between characters when I see it).
I didn't watch the 1st season right out the gate. I kept seeing it on my Hulu recs though. I noticed in the promos that it had JAW from Shameless in it, but I don't think I started watching it until November or December 2022 because I wasn't watching anything on Hulu like that. But, I eventually did. It was the DIVERSE cast that piqued my interest — a stressed-out looking white guy amongst a group of black and hispanic people (barring Richie). Interesting! So, I hit play. I binged the season, loved it. Then I started noticing that a lot of people loved it. Great! I did notice something between the two main characters Syd and Carmy but it was very subtle. You would honestly miss it. I did watch it a second time and noticed it more (because you don't always catch things the first time around) but still like a whisper of something. I honestly think their meet-cute is very telling and when Syd came back at the end. It's all in how Carmy looks at her (and he be looking).
Now, here we are with season two. Prior to, everyone is saying that there will be no romance and Syd and Carmy just have a platonic relationship. Okay! That's fine, whatever. Clearly viewers have noticed something and they're shipping the two. Not a big deal. But, season 2? I binged it, loved it. Now I see that there is definitely some romantic vibes there. Honestly, it sticks out like a sore thumb, and that's just on the first watch. They said they weren't going to have romance, but they gave Carmy a love interest and Marcus catching feelings for Syd. Okay, twist! They lied, that's fine. Carmy and Claire do have chemistry, as does Syd and Marcus, but it paled in comparison to, and I believe quite noticeably, the sparks between Sydney and Carmy. It's there. My issue is why are they making the SydCarmy shippers think they're delusional when the evidence is literally on the screen? Make it make sense.
They say this season is about their partnership. A partnership is a relationship, it's synonymous. It can be romantic and it cannot be. Being in a platonic relationship is not devoid of intimacy (it's just not sexual). That's fine, but their interactions were not giving 100% platonic. I think Carmy likes Syd, Syd might not notice (or is scared to), just like she didn't notice with Marcus. I think her mind just doesn't want to go there and she's focused on the restaurant and it's success. Either way, I'm not delusional. All this discourse is a great marketing ploy I will say (which is probably why this season has gotten way more views). Great job!!
I liked Claire (how can you not). I have no negative commentary on her. I just chock up their dialogue as getting to know one another, in Carmy's awkward way. I honestly don't know. LOL. I think she was needed for Carmy's character arc/growth. Her and Carmy had chemistry but it didn't feel romantic (maybe lustful). It looked romantic but didn't feel like it, you know. Maybe he liked the idea of being in a relationship and Claire was very persistent in pursuing him, so why not. He seemed to like her. But there is a stark difference between his interactions with her and Sydney. I know she's a girl he knew growing up, hung around but never talked to. Mikey and Richie teased him about loving her which he denied. It was very vague if this was actually someone he had a crush on, so I don't know. But like Carm said, he missed out on all that stuff, so why not give it a try.
I think Sydney's reaction to Claire wasn't initially jealousy just moreso annoyed. Carmy was supposed to come back and help her with choosing napkins and working on the menu. Instead, he comes back with Claire and kicks everyone out. I'd be pissed too. She'd been working on that menu alone and with Tina, and he comes switching up things after discussing it with Claire and not her. But it wasn't until the table scene that you can kind of see that she was shocked to hear him say that Claire was great. I think at that point you just have to accept it, so she admits that maybe she was just scared. Absolutely justifiable. But we all saw how that convo progressed, and there's more there. It's kind of like an open window.
The relationship between Sydney and Carmy is integral to the show. They have the weight of this restaurant on their shoulder and the crew's livelihoods. They need to get that Michelin star and repay back the loan to Cicero in a short amount of time. Every second counts.
I don't think we've heard the last of Claire, I think they should get some closure after that ending or whatever, because it would be shitty if he didn't. But I don't see them as "endgame." I see this as a story centered around Carmy, Sydney, and Richie; their relationship with each other and those around them.
In Sydney's episode where she went around to restaurants to get inspiration, they were giving her tips about being in a partnership. But the partnership that stood out to me was the one at Kasama where she was supposed to meet up with Carmy. Kasama means "together" in Tagalog. They are a Michelin star restaurant in Chicago, the partners/owners are a couple (for those who think Sydney and Carmy being together would ruin things). I just thought that was interesting. Could be nothing, but why not hope. LOL
I loved this season, it was great. Loved all the characters. Sydney, Natalie, and Tina were bosses! They were my faves overall. Richy made a huge 180. I'm here for it. I hope they win those Emmy's this season. And, I'm excited for a season 3 whenever that will be. Pay the writers!!
Sidenote: Let the haters hate. It changes nothing. Just because they say something, doesn't make it so (denial is real). We all watched the same show and you either liked it or you didn't. People shipping characters, as they always have, should not bother you.
Also, saying you don't want two characters together because you want to see platonic relationships but are okay with pairing said characters off with another is very contradicting and very not cool. It's not Shondaland, you're right. But, adding romance doesn't cheapen the show at all. I think the writers know what their doing. Again, pay the writers! :)
