THE CHILD RETURNS AFTER SIX MONTHS-

here’s my readyrambles :))

“i missed your hugs” and i’m already crying-

“i know gavin’s been telling me how you’ve been and he’s been telling you how i been” ohhhhhh so thats why it’s not as emotional lol there’s been updates from gav about each other! that’s great! at least we know why fl isn’t crying like i am rn-

i missed his voice so much.

“i was worried if that i wasn’t here that things wouldn’t go back to being good, but delphinus said um, uh hold on i remember-“ he’s so precious.

“he said i should trust in the work i’ve already done! he said i’ve already helped my charges learn ways to find their ways back to being happy! even when i can’t be there!” delphinus thank you for taking care of our child.

“i don’t think i was really okay with it before.” yeah, i could tell but that’s okay!

“like i knew i could t be everywhere all the time, but i was able to be most places most of the time! but the problem is..” his whole ramble <333 i love him

“i was holding on tight to one of my charges and it wasn’t good for everyone.” i wonder who the charge is, david? and was this the downward spiral gav told us about?

“and then they assigned me to you! and they said you needed a friend and we became really good friends, and stuff felt a lot better for a while!” that just speaks for itself :,)

“and uh and then the bad thing happened and it felt really bad to be here and i couldn’t be here” HE WHISPERED WHEN HE SAID THAT— :(( that moment broke my heart when caelum left like that, i never wanna see him upset like that again

“but it’s not so bad anymore!” roll credits-

“and you guys did it all on your own! and that’s amazing!” took a while but true lol

“like i did something right you know?” as if you do anything wrong, precious boy :)

“i helped people figure out how to come back from feeling bad, even when i couldn’t be there!” jokes aside, this is huge for caelum and i’m proud he’s grown with that knowledge

“delphinus kept saying it was something like… fish.” HUH LMAOOOO

“and something with teaching fish but i don’t really get that i don’t think you can teach fish things, but we’ll, i guess i never tried. maybe i just need to try! but i don’t know what i would teach a fish? i wonder what a fish would want to learn? wait what was i talking about?” cae, i missed you and your adorable rambles so much

“fish, no uh before fish-“ MY POINT STANDS HES ADORABLE

“i finally couldn’t be everywhere all the time, so i kinda had to learn” i’m so proud of him for that

“it didn’t, it got happier again! and that makes me happy! i’m really glad you’re happy” HIS GIGGLESSS

“you’ve been through a lot of bad stuff” that’s an understatement-

“and that’s not fair, cause, cause you’re really nice so you should only have nice stuff happen to you, but though the bad stuff happened to you, you still found ways to be happy, and that’s the best thing i could ever see!” and now i’m tearing up again-

“me? yeah! i’m doing good, thanks for asking!” hes so cute i missed him

“whenever you used to ask me how i was doing, um, i always used to like, uh, well, like the uh, like the way the words used to come out when i answered was that y’know like, ‘other people were happy so that meant i was happy!’, and i meant it! i mean seeing other people happy makes me happy, it makes me the happiest!” :,)

“but when i couldn’t be around the people i was used to being around for a while, when someone would ask me how i was, i didn’t really know how to answer cause, i didn’t really know how to think about just what i was feeling when there wasn’t anyone else around.” wow.

“before i always just made sure there was someone else around cause it was easy cause if they were happy, i was happy! and if they weren’t i wasn’t until i could make them happy again! and it didn’t make sense to me back then when delphi and he others would try to ask me ‘caelum how do you feel?’ and i’d say, ‘my charges are happy so i’m happy!’ and they’d be like ‘alright but caelum how do you feel?’ and i’d say ‘i told you people are happy so i’m happy.’ that makes sense because he never learned to think of his own feelings omg

“right but we’re asking about YOUR feelings not theirs and i’d say i knowww you keep asking me, but their feelings are my feelings!” fuck that hits so hard-

“and then they’d always get this weird look on their face, kinda like they were worried and i’d always ask if i did something wrong, and they’d say ‘oh no you didn’t do anything wrong but you need remember their feelings are their feelings and your feelings are your feelings. there’s still a difference between their feelings and your feelings’” fuck dude THIS IS SO DEEP FOR WHAT-

“and that’s usually where i’d get confused” yeah that makes sense unfortunately

“it seemed like all the other empathy daemons were getting it, but i just didn’t feel like i was getting it, cause for me there wasn’t a difference, idk i just felt what other people felt.” whew, there’s a lot of deepness in this convo lmao

“longer than i’d ever stayed away before” … well then

“it still took a while, but i finally get what they meant, and i get why they kept asking me it like that cause there is a difference, my feelings are my feelings! and other peoples are there’s and i still feel their feelings, and i still want everyone to feel good but, i don’t know! there’s like a space there, a little space in between and the space matters and that makes more sense now, makes things feel better now.” he’s growing up i’m not crying i- i’m not crying-

“aw thanks!” i’m so soft-

“yeah i feel good! not just cause other people do now, i feel good just me! and that’s really nice!” i’m so proud :,,)

“i’m happy that some good things came from the bad thing” *clears throat* hux and dami

“ a lot of things got worse and that’s scary, but other stuff got better! i mean it helped me make sense of that stuff that didn’t really use make sense, and it brought a lot of people closer together!” HIS GIGGLE AFTER THAT and also- HUX AND DAMIEN i’m sorry- (no i’m not)

“i’m really glad you’re feeling better after all of it, your feelings have always been really deep, and when it’s that strong the knots get tied up, really really tightly, but gavin’s good at untying them too! even if he doesn’t always think he is!” THEY ARE BROTHERS (or father and son lmao) YOUR HONOR AND I LOVE THEM

“he’s a lot better at it than he thinks, he just does it different so he thinks it doesn’t count, but it counts! different isn’t worse it’s just different! and if you find someone that the different works with, and your different works together than the different is perfect!” caelum the relationship expert, i mean he’s responsible for some of them happening so it makes sense lmao: that section really applies to the relationships in redacted and i love it

“and your twos different is the perfect kind of different!” … caelum sign these adoption papers right now-

“hey! do you wanna do something together?” YES.

BAKING, CUDDLES, GAMING. IFGAF I JUST WANT TO HANG OUT WITH YOU

“i wasn’t really playing the game i was just kinda looking at it, but it was fun to look at!” HA I LOVE HIM

“gavin’s been really good about telling me all about what’s been happening and i’ve been telling him everything to tell you but, i just like talking to you!” … i love caelum

whew- that was a lot but in the best way possible

i thought it’d be more emotional, but knowing they were updated about each other makes sense, i mean the audience wasn’t so we’re all crying lmao

gavin mentions!!! we love that, wish he has a line or two but that’s okay! we got plenty of him from the last audio

seriously, caelum has grown so much since his first audio and from the last time we heard him, he’s growing up!!! and he’s learning so well and on his own time. i’m really proud of him for realizing what delphinus was telling him about his feelings being his own. as much as i missed him, he needed that time for himself and to learn things, i’m really glad it payed off.

i love caelum a lot and he’s a really well thought out and portrayed character. he’s executed so well so well done redacted, one again.

he’s always been so sweet and that’s not gonna change, i don’t think i’ve ever liked a childlike character like him ever (cause i don’t like kids lmao) but god he proved me wrong. i would adopt him in a heartbeat. i can’t wait to see more of caelum and hopefully we have another audio with him and gavin!!!

A new face was always note-worthy in Etheria’s castle, especially if they were a Puff. So when Vanilla was introduced to the mild-mannered and pretty puff named Snowdrop, she took an instant liking to her. She felt something in her heart, a feeling that she had experienced at least twice before.

There was a desire for her to get to know this other Puff, Vanilla had to. She was a high-ranking leader in Etheria’s Guard, and one of the most respected Dames. It was only good practice to get to know Snowdrop.

Some meetings and involved conversations later, Vanilla was feeling it again. It was for Snowdrop, what did they say it was?

…Attraction?

It took Vanilla some courage to come forward about it to Snowdrop, just how she felt. And she was absolutely relieved when the other reciprocated those feelings.

“..Sn-Snowdrop… Are you sure you’d want to start building this relationship with me?” Vanilla asked her gloomily, casting her eyes to the ground.

“What? But why not, Miss Vanilla?”

“Um… B-before you were here.. I already had a mate..” She hesitated. Clearly, the memory was painful. “He.. He was killed by a beast… A-and we had two Pufflings together…”

Snowdrop looked sympathetic as she reached over and laid a gloved paw on Vanilla’s. “I’m so sorry about your loss. I-if you don’t-”

“No.. No, it’s okay, Snowdrop.” Vanilla murmured. “It happened, and there is nothing I can do to change that. But at least I still have his legacy with me… But.. I think I am allowed one more chance, right?”

“Miss Vanilla..”

“Please, just call me Vanilla.”

“Momma, can we see the brooch again?” Delphinus prompted Snowdrop, who was thoroughly enjoying this rare break she had received. Her step child was asking to see the engagement brooch she and Vanilla had commissioned, the jewels that symbolized their bond together. Obliging, Snowdrop reached within her wing-concealing cape and withdrew the brooch, handing it to the curious child.

The brooch was of the snowdrop flower, which was what she was named for. Behind the flower was a pair of feathery wings. The jewels were sparkling white sapphires, and the metal was silver. The brooch was perfect, and they each had one. Of course, Vanilla carried the brooch for her and Ram still, just as a reminder of his memory. Snowdrop couldn’t blame her for that, and she didn’t mind it in the slightest. Vanilla told her that at Ram’s funeral, she saw the glimmering jewels of his brooch nestled in his paw.

However, their brooch ceremony had obviously been one of the happier days of her life. Snowdrop could feel Vanilla’s love and happiness filling the small room as they fastened the brooches to their ceremonial sleeves. Being pronounced as mates was a big deal to their species, and Snowdrop was happy she could give Vanilla her second chance.

Such thoughts were shaken away as Vanilla came over, Junonia tucked under her wing. Snowdrop initially smiled at her, but her smile dissipated when she saw her in a disheveled state.

“Vanilla? Are you okay?” Snowdrop quietly asked Vanilla as she plopped down next to her and groaned.

“‘Been sick all day…”

“Oh… Uh… Have you gone to Perseids about that?” Snowdrop whispered.

“Why would I need to do that?” Her mate lazily whined. “That means I have to get up again…”

“Well, it could be…” Snowdrop glanced over to her step-children, who were distracted by their own conversation. “…It could be something more, you know?”

Vanilla’s wings fluff up as a thought dawns on her. “…Sorry. I’m not thinking straight right now, but… How long ago was that one thing? You know, the thing Perseids suggested?”

“…Four weeks ago?”

“…R-right… I think it’s best to go to the infirmary. C-can you…?”

“Of course, my sweet.”

“V-Vanilla…” Snowdrop murmured to her weakened partner. Her voice was sore from all the worried and joyful tears she had been shedding earlier. “P-p-please… Promise me you won’t scare me like that ever again!”

“I’m… … Sorry…” Vanilla rasped, her paw trembling to grasp Snowdrop’s. “I didn’t mean to…”

“It’s okay… It’s okay…” Snowdrop whimpered back. “P-Perseids was able to save you, at least…”

“And… The little ones?”

“She said they’ll all be fine as well.” Snowdrop whimpered, a few loose tears of joy slipping. “It’s a miracle, Vanilla… It’s a pure miracle!”

“Can… Can I see them, p-please?” The weary mother asked, prompting Snowdrop to nod and pad over to the other side of the recovery room. Vanilla’s sisters, Cinnamon and Mint, had been peering at the four bundles in the crib, their own children had been left in the care of Eirny and Rosea for the time being as they helped Vanilla recover. Of course, they each picked up one of the four pufflings as Snowdrop took the other two in her arms.

Seeing them at last brought a smile to Vanilla’s face. “Did.. Did you name them yet?”

“N-no, I wanted to wait for you. I couldn’t just go naming them without you!”

“Oh.. But I’m awful at naming things…” Vanilla murmured. “What did you have in mind,,, D-dear?”

“Oh, well… They all inherited wings, you see. So I was thinking about birds…”

Vanilla smiled warmly,a slight giggle escaping her. “You were always a bird watcher… Can I see t-two of them? We’ll each name two.”

“O-Okay…” Snowdrop delicately placed the two she was holding into Vanilla’s arms. It was a pale gray female and the only male of the bunch, who was black and had a distinctive red stripe on his head. Vanilla smiled at the two, their coos bringing her joy.

“I think… I’ll name the gray one Chickadee.. And the little boy can be Woodpecker.” Vanilla mused, nuzzling her pufflings.

“Um.. Let’s see.. The brown and white girl can be Sandpiper. And the darker brown and cream will be Finch.”

As the two considered the names, the other Sweet Sisters broke their little silence.

“Chickadee, Sandpiper, Finch, and Woodpecker… Yeah, they all seem to fit them.” Cinnamon cooed as Sandpiper began to reach for her aunt in Snowdrop’s arms.

“I think they’re all lovely! Delphi and Juni will love them all, I’m sure!” Mint chimed, her tail wagging.

“Then it’s settled.” Vanilla beamed. “Snowdrop, you should go get Perseids and inform her about the names. She’ll want to fill out the certificates…”

“R-right. We should put these guys back in their crib..” Snowdrop murmured absentmindedly as she carefully set the pufflings down in the crib one by one. Once they were all in there, she moved them next to Vanilla, so she could see them.

“Get some rest, okay?” Snowdrop whispered to her tired mate.

“Yeah, Snowdrop. I’m thinking you need it, too. I can see it in your eyes..”

“Ahaha! I guess.” She giggled, sidling over to Vanilla and nuzzling her.

“Goodnight…” Vanilla murmured scarcely as Cinnamon and Mint turned the lights down in the room before leaving.
