A Red Queen Social-Political-Economic Meta devolves into prison reform (bear w/ me) 

links at the very end smile. ask me to elaborate a point or don’t idc. I will be talking more regardless.

How This All Started: 

Me, writing: do you think that rq story aus (canon-divergence specifically) can work w/out the existence of silver/reds or at the very least power/no power dynamics, or rather, how well would the plot work without that? 

Me, opening new doc: bc like, the rq story is built off the usurpation of the silver/red dichotomy and calling into question the validity of oppression with the existence of a third group which shares qualities of the two (if you wanna get sociopolitical with it). 

TL;DR: Cameron Cole’s role in the narrative works as a connection between the oppressive systems irl and in the rqverse by her simply being a Black girl from New Town and a Newblood silent. 

Norta’s Social, Political, and Economic System 

Thinking about it more, I think that RQ can be seen as a racial-adjacent (blood, in canon) oppression story and class oppression story, but combining those lenses to more closely mirror what we experience in real life is, iffy at best. Since race as we understand it in our world is purely social while in rqverse there is a biological difference (which uhm. I don't end up talking about eugenics but let's keep that in mind yeah?) in which the system of oppression is made from. That system of oppression then allows for the discrimination of Reds in society, which can be seen at its worst in New Town and tech towns in general. Reds are at the bottom of the social ladder with no hope of climbing above their station. 

Now as a class story, this is where economics would come in.  And since there is no economic mobility for Reds, RQ as a story rooted in class falls apart. Basically (without thinking myself in circles) it cannot be only a class story and it cannot be a story in which both social factors and economic factors combine, since there is no sense of "class" in the Red's lives, all of them suffer. But this is true only in the Mare's point of view, the Silvers in universe are separated by high houses, low houses, and "common." Yet, this is only where we begin to see politics come in as the Houses are separated by respect and power as well as wealth. The connection to monarchy is viable for those in the Houses and is all draped in political pomp and shit. idk man it's one am and i'm thinking too hard.  SO the sociopolitical works in tandem w the social-economical whilst for Reds politics is unfathomable bc they're second class citizens. 

Prisons in The USA 

WHICH BRINGS ME TO (the worse segue in history) TO CAMERON COLE *cheers whoops etc*  I cannot for the life of me get over how Cameron is pretty much the only Black Red "main" character and she came from New Town, which is a place where everyone works to create for the rest of the country. This is a little too similar to the reality of prisons and like, the generational Blackness of it all is a lot for me to NOT look over. 

Note: Prisons are long-term holding facilities where convicted people go to carry out their sentences, Jails are short-term holding facilities and most are awaiting charges or trial (Prison Fellowship). 

One thing to understand is that prisons are rife with modern-day slavery, especially in the US (which rq was written in the context in). Last I checked, the US held about 25% of the world's prisoners, about a million people incarcerated, not to count those still in the penal system (like in jail, probation, or juvenile detention). Not only that, prisons are often private, not public, so there is an active economical interest in having as many prisoners as possible. You need bodies to make money in that industry. Not only that, prisoners work for little to no money and aren't even guaranteed to be able to re-enter society. In fact, many prisoners do not, the prison recidivism rate is still over a third in the US, meaning that over one-third of prisoners commit a crime again and become re-incarcerated (Wisevoter). There are a fuck ton of reasons why this is, mostly, in my opinion, the lack of effective reform programs. But you cannot deny that there is a corporate interest in having prisoners in prisons to make money and make profits for the low cost of labor. According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), prisoners make $2 Billion in goods only to be paid an average of  $0.13 to $0.52  an hour, of which "the government takes up to 80 percent of these wages for “room and board,” court costs, restitution, and other fees like building and sustaining prisons. These wage deductions generally leave incarcerated workers with less than half of their gross pay" (ACLU). One more thing, who's populating these prisons? 

Statistically, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, White people make up 57.3% of prisoners nationwide while the next biggest racial group, Black people make up 38.6% (Note: This is by race, and the government's definition of race. Hispanic is considered as an ethnic group, which is why the data about Latine people is not on the federal website. Hispanic group makes up 29.7% of prisoners, to satiate your curiosity)(BOP). However, you have to take into account the rates compared to population. Let's take a look at New York State, which in the Rqverse includes The Stilts and Archeon. White people make up about 55% of the population and account for 23% of people in prison. Black people on the other hand, make up about 14% of the population and account for 49% of prisoners (PPI).  Like WOW! What a jump am I right? 

This disparity is again, attributed to many many things and long history of racial injustice and racist policing (looking at you stop and frisk, which is also a whole different problem i would LOVE to talk about), but as stated, has its roots in racial injustice and how the US never bothered to recover from slavery, Jim Crow, and treating minorities (most notably Black people) as second class citizens. 

Cameron Cole 

Okay, so now you have the IRL quick breakdown, let’s talk about Cameron Cole. Cameron Cole is a young Black girl who is from New Town and is a newblood with the power of Silence. That sentence is the core of her character as she stands in the plot (nothing about personality, we may get into this later idk yet. I have now officially passed 1k words on this. So. we will see fr.) Cameron’s identity as a young Black girl is not explored as, again, in the rqverse race isn’t a thing, it’s all about blood, baby! (that's what a vampire would say fr). So, in blood: she’s a newblood, one of those in-betweens that usurps the dichotomy yaddi-yadda, and is really just a socio-political thing, because Newbloods haven’t been around/ known for long enough in Norta to have bearing economically (class) and Maven decided to be Maven about newbloods in general, not just Mare’s standing as a Newblood ( he legitimized Newbloods as a blood group in Norta, essentially). But to get into the whole young Black girl, we need to draw the connection between prisons and New Town. 

Okay, no more jokes (though that is true), Black people are seen as second-class citizens in the eyes of the systems in place today, and that is reflected in Red Queen as a Black character is a victim of modern-day slavery within that universe. Her existence calls for comparison between the oppressive systems in the rqverse and the world as we know it. 

New Town is one of many  tech towns, dedicated to industry, building all of Norta’s mechanical goods and basically the cornerstone of Nortan economy. Everyone in there is forced to work despite the horrible conditions and have no chance of entering society and for little to no pay (sound familiar?). While the prison system in the US is a continuation of modern-day slavery, New Town just cut out the middleman of the police system and put them straight into modern day-slavery. Making the notable characters from New Town Black draws all these lines together and provide commentary on our world today: Black people still can’t win!

Now, as a Black girl, even in the RQverse, Cameron is still saddled with the same generational struggles Black women face due to the intersection of their Black and Woman identities. (source: am Black, am a woman). Because not only is the woman expected to look after household affairs and family matters, but now we’re dealing with racial inequalities. It’s a lot on a girl’s plate right? Cameron and Morrey remind me of all the Black women who have lost the Black men in their life due to violence and my own fears for my brother each time he leaves the house. 

Violence to us is like gun violence and police brutality and shit like that but to them is the war, where similar to the police system. Aw fuck new section time 

The Lakelander War as Control 

So my basic theory here is that the Lakelander war is used as the police system, not necessarily as like, actual policing but as a power move. It’s like Atlanta’s Cop City to me, a way to be like “heyyyyy don’t forget who has the power to kill you. Okie!” 

Back to Regular Programming 

Where violence is perpetuated by over policing and the war on drugs and such polices affecting minority populations irl, the war (and the duel things i forgot what they're called, and bowl of bones) exacerbate the uhm. Power dynamics. Reds are powerless Silvers powerful . “Look at what we can do” and shit. 

Edit: Lynching is also in this category. It’s about power, yeah.

 So Cameron has to save Morrey from this violence. I have to fear about my brother and dad and cousins. Like there is a connection there please tell me you get it I will cry its three am now im almost 2k deep like. 

Cameron, though, is not just a regular red, she is a Newblood and a  silencer at that. 

So how does she fight against her oppressors? She silences them, quite literally takes away their power. And isn’t that an apt metaphor for this all?

First Love, Part. I

Living in Jupiter, Florida, proved to be no picnic. Especially when your family found herself among the most respected in the community. Recognized as a small settlement, Jupiter appeared to be a crowded town. Many people in the community seemed to have known each other for decades. Rarely would you find a single inhabitant who did not share a blood connection with another.

We must go back in time to acknowledge where these connections originated. The first settlers moved to the area in the eighteenth century. At that time, some Indian tribes were living there. In order not to lose the pure blood of the white man, many of them united themselves through marriages. Thus, the births linked to the intermarriages created the community of Jupiter.

You came to be no different. Your parents' relationships grew out of their high school years. Because they lived in the same neighborhood, their exchange intensified over the years. A wedding soon followed, and soon, Jupiter welcomed a new little soul. The blowing of your fifth candle featured the entry of the USA into World War II. Like many other men of his generation, your father suffered from the mobilizations. Yet, he soon found his way back home.

Your calm and respectful nature strengthened your parent's conviction to extend the family. Three new faces appeared to the delight of your father, for whom a large family meant prosperity. He received three boys who would carry on the family name with pride and continuity. Soon, your role as the eldest took a new meaning.

Growing up, you learned to look after yourself and your brothers. While your father worked, your mother attended a lot of Tupperware meetings. Police detective, he rarely found himself at home. No one could follow your mother to the meetings. She claimed you tended to be too young or that you would get bored.

So, to make pocket money, you dedicated your free time to babysitting. With your hard-earned money, you gave yourself a weekly treat. Every Wednesday, you enjoyed going to the local diner. There, you could eat a mixed salad and read the newspaper. Your break could, sometimes, include a walk by the Jupiter Lighthouse.

Like the other children of Jupiter, your future seemed set. From your future career to the man you would marry. Yet, some areas remained unclear. Unfortunately for your parents, their plans were about to fall through.

The first obstacle to your success involved a man named Jimmy Darling. He used to show up at the diner on Wednesday afternoons. The first few times, you walked past each other without noticing each other's presence. Well, without him ever noticing you. The young man sat opposite you. His favorite pastime was flirting with the waitress. Carol's greatest dream tended to be fleeing from Jupiter. To achieve it, she worked at the diner five days a week.

The reason Jimmy didn't notice you remained simple. You usually arrive before him and hide behind the Jupiter-Tequesta Inquirer. But this time appeared to be different. Due to a delay, the young man took his seat a few minutes before you.

As you pushed open the door to the diner, you greeted Carol with a pleasing smile on your face. The waitress stood behind the counter, close to the man with the gloves, as she called him. When she heard you, she straightened up to respond.

"I thought you wouldn't come in this week!" Carol flashed a smile at Jimmy before handing you the day's newspaper. Your attention went immediately to the cover of the newspaper.

Your father's work as a detective with the Jupiter Police Department never made it past the door. He never talked about his investigations or what was going on in town. So the newspapers turned out to be your only source of information on the subject. A murder happened recently. A milkman had found a woman dead in her own home. According to the police, the only suspect appeared to be a girl with two heads. The headlines mentioned a two-headed freak. Curious about it, you turned the pages with great attention. At some point, your elbow bumped into your neighbor's. By the time you got there, no one was next to you. Thus, you excused yourself.

"First time?" your neighbor came out to be Jimmy Darling. Besides the delightful smile on his lips, dimples formed on her cheeks. The black leather cap matched his jacket and gloves, which he never seemed to take off.

With round eyes, you found yourself unable to answer his simple question. His gaze roamed on the newspaper you were holding before Carol came to your rescue. The waitress brought your salad. As you blushed, she took the initiative to answer.

"Y/N comes in every Wednesday for lunch. Always at this place, she orders the same meal." Carol offered you an understanding smile as she leaned toward the two of you.

Not used to these exchanges, you put a lock of brown hair behind your ear.

"No way! How could I have missed such beauty?" Jimmy tended to be a smooth talker, and you knew it. Yet, your body kept expressing discomfort as you blushed even more.

Still speechless, your eyes met Carol's. Jimmy understood your discomfort and, like a gentleman, he jumped out of his seat. The young man exchanged some words with Carol. He speculated he would be back the following Wednesday since he now had something to look after. Raising your eyes toward him, he threw you a ravaging smile. Jimmy also winked at you before leaving the diner.

That brief interaction filled your mind for the rest of the afternoon. And your imagination allowed itself to invent the next meeting. Jimmy hadn't lied. The following Wednesday, he showed up for dinner again. But also those that followed. He allowed himself the pleasure of coming to make conversation by buying you a drink here and there. Jimmy revealed himself as reserved when you asked him about personal subjects.

Over time, your shell broke, allowing him to discover what kind of woman you were. "What if we went for a ride together? We'll take my bike!" Jimmy suggested, on a whim, when you had finished your salad. If he had made this proposal on the previous Wednesday, there is no doubt that you would have accepted it. Unfortunately, the timing could not have been worse. One of your father's colleagues had asked to see your mother at the police station. As a result, you had to watch your brothers for the rest of the afternoon. Without refusing his proposal in its entirety, you offered to pick you up at your school the next night.

In front of your house, a police car parked as if the driver came in a hurry. It was not your father's car. You would have recognized it by the little bear that hung under its rearview mirror. Approaching the front door, Detective Jack Colquitt emerged from the house. His face bore an overwhelmed look. Colquitt knew you since you were born, he had never been the best policeman in Jupiter, yet he would do his job. Once he passed you, he shook his head before getting back into his car.

"Jack came to ask me if I'd heard from your father in the last few days." Ready to go to bed, your mother wore a mustard yellow bathrobe to hide her faded nightgown. Her arms crossed, the expression on her face detailed anxiety.

"Don't tell your brothers." As said before, your father rarely goes away for very long without giving any news. He used to call the police station or even your mother to inform them where he was. But this time, Robert Bunch left only a family and colleagues in a state of worry and incomprehension. Things must have been important enough for Jack to go on his own when the meeting got scheduled at the police station.

The next evening, you waited for Jimmy for almost an hour, but he never showed up. So you walked home, telling yourself how stupid you were to think that a boy like him could be interested in you.

The following Wednesday, you didn't show up at the diner. You changed your day to ensure that you wouldn't run into him, yet you did. He immediately sat down beside you. His face showed a guilty expression that you missed right away.

Jimmy stood so close to you that the fabric of his jacket almost caressed your arm. With a wave of his gloved hand, he motioned for Carol to bring him what he used to order before turning back to you.

"Look, doll, I wanted to come to you, but there's..." Jimmy started before you cut him off, which wasn't something you used to do.

"You don't need to apologize... because I'm not mad at you." you continued, but your intervention didn't manage to convince him. He moved closer to you, so close you could feel his breath caressing the side of your neck.

"There was a problem where I work. That's why I couldn't pick up my angel for a motorcycle ride." His comments made you grin against your will. You wanted to forget about this smooth talker, but he was good. So, you turned to him, a slight smile on your lips.

"Tell me where you work, and I'll come to see you since you can't get away." Flashing his charming smile again, Jimmy still seemed to hesitate for a moment. He ended up writing it on the small piece of paper you had handed him, where you could find him.

A little bit naive, and even if you didn't recognize the address, you showed up there one morning. You cooked a full plate of pancakes to sweeten the deal with Jimmy's coworkers. When your mother asked where you wanted to go, you lied, pretending of a meeting with a classmate. She called a taxi but ordered you to come back early because she needed to see her own friends.

The smell of hot pancakes wafted into the car, and the driver asked for one as payment. Closing the door, your plate in your hands, you couldn't believe your eyes. Tents stretched as far as the eye could see. Large banners praising the merits of frightening personalities were floating in the wind. These elements raised doubts about the truthfulness of Jimmy's words.

Observing your movements, a young woman approached you. In an aggressive tone, she informed you that the ticket office did not seem open before yelling that you should not stay. Taking courage, you asked her if she knew Jimmy Darling. The young woman looked at you from head to toe before asking you to wait.

So you did, taking care not to let your eyes linger where they shouldn't. At some point, your knight in shining armor appeared. His leather gloves still protecting his hands. The expression on his face made him glow, as did the dimples on his cheeks as he smiled at you.

"You came!" He exclaimed while his appearance had brought a stupid smile to your face. He observed the dish you were holding in your hands and relished the faint smell of rum from it.

"I didn't tell you I was coming, so to make up for it, here are some pancakes!" Jimmy pretended to have a surprise for you too. He then led you to the center of the camp, his hands resting on your eyes to prevent you from cheating.

Still holding your plate, you groped your way forward to avoid falling. After some steps, both of you stopped. You took a moment to listen to the sounds and assumed people were around you.

When Jimmy removed his hands, you stayed stunned by the vision. A small group of people sitting around a wooden table stared at you with round eyes. Among them, a woman of above-average proportions took a sip of water. Next to her stood a shorter man with arms that looked malformed. As she slid down the bench with her arms, your body took a step back when you noticed that the woman in front of you had no legs.

A young man appeared to polish chicken eggs with great attention. Your back hitting Jimmy's chest made you realize how unwelcome your behavior was. Embarrassed by it, you finally tried to break the ice.

"If I had known, I would have made more pancakes." Your peculiar comment made Jimmy chuckle. He turned away for a few moments so you wouldn't think he could be making fun of you. The man with the malformed and tattooed arms approached you. With a lot of sympathies, he shook your hand. After introducing himself as Paul, he took your plate. You met Amazon Eve and Suzi. Jimmy introduced you to Meep, Pepper, and Salty before inviting you around the table. His face seemed more relaxed than when he met you next to the cab.

Once seated around the table, they enjoyed your cooking as if it was not something usual.

Some of them let out slight groans after the first bite, and when the dish ended up empty, many of them seemed pained. You stood there for a long time talking and getting to know people you don't get to meet on the street.

A little shy at first, you eventually relaxed. They were different from the descriptions people were giving of them. And you ended up blaming yourself for ever believing what they said.

"I have an uncle who became a clown in a freak show. My mother found him very friendly. But he left Jupiter a few months after I was born. I don't know what happened to him."

Discussions continued throughout the afternoon. It wasn't until you saw the sky turn orange that you realized what time it was. Your mother would worry about your absence. It was inconceivable to torture her any further after your father's unexplained departure.

"I promise to come back as soon as I can.." you announced as Pepper had wrapped her arms around you and didn't want to let go. But Eve managed to convince her to let you go. Jimmy called you a cab. On the way to your starting point, you announced that you might be coming back with your brothers. Such animation in town could only be positive for their morale, and especially yours.

Letting your eyes wander one last time, the decoration of a caravan caught your attention. Attached to Jimmy's first and last name was a nickname that made you frown, "Lobster Man". You stopped, forcing your friend to ask you what was going on. Not wishing to appear rude, his gloves appeared as your way of finding out the truth.

"You're not wearing your gloves because you're cold, are you?" You asked with a slight smile, you had never believed his story but you gave him the benefit of the doubt. Your remark seemed to bring up anxiety in him, the same you had already felt when he took his hands away from your eyes. You approached, wanting only to reassure him.

“Whenever you’re ready,” your voice was identical to the one you used with your brothers. When they came to you whenever they had some kind of problem your parents couldn’t solve. Plunging your gaze into his, you didn’t notice that he was about to tell you his most shameful secret. Jimmy dropped his gloves to the floor, but you hadn’t even glanced at what he was hiding underneath the cloth. Your heart had started beating faster. Your own hands were sweaty, and before you knew it, your faces were dangerously close. And your lips ended up touching.

It was both gentle and violent. Gentle because neither of you wanted to hurt the other. Violent because it was the thing you had both been dreaming of doing for some time. Jimmy’s hands quickly grabbed your waist as one of yours found refuge in the lobster man’s hair.

The cab driver’s horn, yet, made the moment that seemed almost dreamlike stop. It was the first time you kissed someone like that, the first time you kissed someone. Opening the cab door, Jimmy placed one last kiss on your lips as a goodbye. He begged you to promise to come back and see him. Which you obviously did.

BIOGRAPHY.

Raul Gonzales was born to Luis and Rosa Gonzales in 1965. He was the eldest of five children in a low-income family, and attended public school in Central Florida until his graduation from High School in 1982. He immediately left to pursue college, and in the year 1984, Luis died of lung cancer.

He completed his bachelor's degree in 1986, and signed on with the USMC with the promise of funding his Master's degree. He enrolled as an officer, and due to his high grades, was streamlined into the pilot pathway.

His service came to an end in 1989 when suffering a mental break in Honduras after being witness to CIA downing a passenger plane. He hijacked a plane to take himself and his squadmates back to the United States. Only intervention from the Umbrella Co. prevented a court martial, and possible execution, and it was agreed that he would serve in the UBCS with his military record wiped.

In the UBCS, he gained a reputation as a "Lone Wolf" when on ground missions, often taking the role of sniper or counter sniper to cover teammates from rogue B.O.W.s. In 1996, after the loss of the USS Alpha Team's pilot, Raul was transferred into USS as the new Alpha Team pilot. A shortage of pilots led to the additional role as Delta Team's pilot.

In 1998, now under the callsign "Night Hawk", he was put on extraction for Alpha Team and Delta Team for Operation Nestwrecker in Raccoon City. Umbrella Command lost contact with the teams, and Raccoon City suffered an outbreak, Nighthawk was told to stand by and await further instructions for command.

When news came that Raccoon City was going to be destroyed, Hawk snuck out of the base with a Med-Evac helicopter and patched through radio frequencies trying to make contact with either team, eventually making contact with Alpha Team's leader, Hunk, in the hours before Raccoon City was set to be wiped out.

They returned to Umbrella base and were subsequently hospitalized together, and visited by the Umbrella US Vice President while recovering from exposure to the T-Virus, and it was made very clear that both of them were spared for their usefulness, and the successful recovery of G-Virus, though the Umbrella VP considered their mission a failure, because Dr. Birkin was not recovered as well.

After the recovery, Nighthawk remained Hunk's primary pilot through several missions, and this continued even after the fall of Umbrella into the present day.

I think it's such a shame that no one can get mental help in Upper Michigan, USA. I had to take "getting help" into my own hands and read into psychiatry/different therapies and teach myself how to be less depressed/anxious on my own because my survival instinct kicked in and I can't just go without help. I literally had to help myself as a last resort. It was really difficult but I somehow pulled through. I'm still not able to function like a proper adult (can't work or drive), but I'm no longer s**c*dal and planning my own death like I did between the ages of 14-28. My 30's have actually been great so far. I have a lot less episodes and they are shorter and less intense. I haven't self-harmed in about 5 years or so too. Some people can't conquer such a thing though, and I am really concerned for several of my friends. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who live in my area who come to me crying about how they can't take it anymore. A couple of them jumped through hoops to get online therapy (tele-health, but it's very pricey and inconvenient). It's pretty much all of my friends at this point. Like my advice and compassion can only do so much and it doesn't ever seem to help them. It's become a little tiring in a way.

Same with getting a dentist with cheap insurance. The greedy conservatives (which is 2/3 of the population here) won't allow it. We all have to travel downstate or to Wisconsin to get basic work done (it takes 3.5 hours of driving to get downstate and 2.5 hours to get anywhere good in Wisconsin + no one drives or can afford cars anymore so we're all doomed). I'm gonna have to start getting to the abscess stage again to have to energy/drive to seek another dentist willing to help and that is not fair. I shouldn't have to look like I do hard drugs just because no one will fix my teeth + depression never helped with that equation either.

Everyone's life up here is a disaster. I live in a corner of the world that is sickeningly resource-less. The nearest psychiatric hospital is 1.5 hours away and doesn't usually accept people unless they've committed a crime or something drastic. The 2nd closest one is a double drive down to Wisconsin, unless you have Michigan-only insurance, then you're driving 6 hours downstate.

Another thing that drives me up the wall is the lack of basic ANYTHING. My friend from New York wants to come visit, but there's little to no AirBnB's up here unless you find a cabin in the woods with no phone/internet service, T-Mobile doesn't reach up here, no Uber drivers of any kind (2 expensive taxi companies that are overbooked all the time is the only way to get anywhere), no basic stores to find anything you're looking for so we all have to order stuff off the internet, no records stores in the entire U.P. except for a couple run-down multi-media stores that have maybe a bin or two of 60's country and Christmas music on vinyl, etc, etc. Also, my town has always been living about 10-15 years in the past. You can't find online reviews or even websites for most stores because the boomers and bootlicking assholes around here don't know what the fuck computers are. And if there's a fashion trend that I find on the internet (like crop tops of example), they won't hit our stores until 5 years later when the trend slows down. The end. Rant over. I don't wanna upset myself but like... lol...

The best alternative to an Americano that is not too bitter/acidic. There is not too much steamed milk and the flavor is still silky. It is easy to drink and the caffeine count is not too high. But, the coffee art is beautiful.

Soup Dumplings

They are usually referred to as the little pocket of joy. As the name states, there is soup in the dumpling shell. The flavor is umami and it is important to air out the dumpling before consuming or you will burn your entire mouth! The best added condiments to the dumplings are pickled ginger and black vinegar. 

Pan Fried Seafood Noodles

The crunch of these egg noodles are the best. They are fried and slathered with a seafood stir fry surrounding Chinese Broccoli. The dish is originally from Hong Kong and served in many Cantonese/Chinese gatherings with family and friends.

Shaved Ice

A hidden secret that is very well liked on the West coast especially Hawaii. The texture is like snow and doused with fruit syrups that have a sweet flavor. The sweetness is not sickly and the fresh fruit is a good addition. My favorite is always mango and strawberry!

Poke 

Another item that is favored on the West Coast and is competitive to sushi. Poke is a type of sashimi dish that is usually made from tuna or salmon. It is usually cured with some soy sauce or shoyu. It can be made for lunch or dinner and be eaten anytime of the year. The best toppings to a Poke bowl consists of seaweed salad, cucumbers, radish, pineapple, roe, and sriracha mayo sauce.
