Week 7- Song Selection and Moodboard

Un-annotated

Annotations and mood board. Initial ideas are surrounding the ideas of vice, horror, body horror, fear, phobias, dark erotica, loving something you hate, addiction, sleep paralysis, and cognitive distortion. 

Artists and art movements I’d like to look further in to are Guro and Takato Yamamoto, as well as general art surrounding the above themes. 

I really like the image of this spindly creature with legs that are just wrong crawling its way through the window and into someone’s safe space, a la Magnus Archives episode 3 Across the Street, in which an impossible creature crawls its way through someone’s window.  I want to represent the creature as this vice or addiction or fear or guilty pleasure, and make it strangely alluring and horrific. 

Having that contrast between the listeners safe space and the horror they’re being faced with? Perhaps even it could be a thing of self reflection, like the person in bed is seeing some twisted, demented version of themselves that they feel a deep kinship to but also hate? This could be a more personal link to feelings of self hatred that I struggled with in the past and still harbour to an extent, feeling like its something I can’t rid myself of, but too afraid to do anything about it.

The more I listen to it the more I realise it’s got a strong emphasis on the idea of consumption, being consumed and that kind of thing. Talking about spiders and flies, repeated dinner imagery, being eaten by “a thousand million shivering furry holes”, the spider man being always hungry... It draws out the idea that whatever the victim is working through or struggling with it’s quite literally all consuming.

The two pairs play a quiz game in order to become better friends, and the quiz questions are presented by other guests who Zoomed in!

The ninth question came from Kawasumi Bishin (Yamamoto), who wasn’t available to call in. With yet another question that put Daigo and Akana at a clear disadvantage, Takato discretely offers them a little bit of help. Unfortunately, Kenken isn’t having any of that and Team Nekoma loses 10 points!!
