I’m Scotland anon! We’re flying into Inverness and driving to visit my sister who’s living outside Aberdeen. It would be cool to know a couple good places to go, but also any tips to not embarrass myself as a tourist?? Ty!
Hi! I'm going to be honest, i haven't spent a ton of time up the north end of the country, at least not for a good few years, so i'm afraid i don't have a ton of insight on what places to go around aberdeen, especially if you're looking for nightlife and the like. I know that inverness has a castle and a really cool bookshop called Leakey's and thats about it. I've been to aberdeen exactly 3 times and all i remember about it was that the sea had foam so thick and yellow that it looked like old mattresses and that the seagulls there are massive hulking mutants who run that city through intimidation and stolen chips
I'm not sure whether you're planning on spending most of your time in the city or if you want to see more of the country, but there's some lovely countryside around the north/northeast. Stonehaven is a really nice picturesque seaside town about half an hour from aberdeen. There's a castle/ruins you can take a tour of, and tbh there's few things more scottish than eating ice cream and chips on a beach on a cold day, assuming you're going to be visiting sometime between now and like april lol. If you have the time it's worth checking out some of the islands. Skye is beautiful and one of the closer islands to aberdeen. I think there's a pretty regular ferry from there to the mainland and its less than an hour journey.
(i'm about to go on a food rant sorry) Scotland definitely isn't renowned for its food, but if you are looking to eat 'traditional' scottish food then the best thing to get is fish/seafood. You can get some really good, really fresh stuff in seafood shacks by the beach, but also just in restaurants in any coastal town/city, though i'd make sure to look at locals reviews on google so you don't get ripped off. Scotland is overall pretty good for vegan/vegetarian food too, and we have a lot of really solid indian restaurants and takeaways, which i'd def recommend. Honestly scotland's best culinary offerings are probably curry, ice cream, and whiskey. Also if you find a sweet shop (or more likely a newsagents selling old fashioned sweets) you should try soor plooms, these bright green boiled sweets (or hard candies if you're american).
I really don't think you need to be worrying about embarrassing yourself, i promise you that as long as you have basic human courtesy and aren't super condescending about scottish accents/culture nobody will be bothered by you. I will say that aberdonian accents, and accents around that part of the country are really fucking weird and not very similiar to any of the accents you'd likely have heard on tv, which tend to lean more towards a stereotypical highlands or glaswegian accent, so if you're alarmed by how people talk you aren't going crazy, they just do talk like that. I doubt this will come up, but scottish ppl might get pissy if you mispronounce certain things. Like scottish gaelic is pronounced gah-lick not gay-lick, edinburgh is pronounced edin-bruh, and glasgow is pronounced glaz-go. Also never refer to scotland as being a part of or the same as england, and generally don't refer to scottish people as british. Not everyone will be offended by being considered british, but it's generally a sore spot for people, and the english thing is just plain wrong. Also if you're american and have scottish ancestry its perfectly fine to be excited about being in scotland but if you're too enthusiastic about it people will give you the side eye and think you're obnoxious tbh
sorry i couldn't be more of a help, i actually would have advice about travelling around the middle/south of the country but i'm not sure whether you're planning on travelling down that far and i've already rambled on way too much. If you are thinking of travelling further down the country, especially around edinburgh or glasgow i would be happy to give more salient advice on where to go and what to do. I hope this helped in some way at least :) I really hope you have a good trip nonetheless

A munchy box or munchie box is an inexpensive fast-food product sold from takeaway restaurants, primarily in Scotland and Glasgow in particular, but also in many other parts from Aberdeen to Rothesay. They are also now sold by many takeaways across the UK.
It consists of an assortment of fast foods served in a large pizza box.
The contents of a munchy box vary but may typically include kebab meat, fried chicken, pizza, chicken tikka, samosas, onion rings, chow mein noodles, pakora, naan bread, garlic bread, coleslaw, other fast foods and sauces such as curry sauce. There is sometimes a salad item and, invariably, chips or fried rice.

IceMan Investments Update – Mid- Season 2022/23
Ok, just a quick check in on how the pre-season positions are playing out. Looks like an interesting year with Arsenal already a sure fire pick up, balanced by a couple in the loss column. A cheeky 150/1 Napoli are in Champions league contention and lots of other picks are still in the mix. As ever, all to play for.
Here’s where we are, Sports bets with an anti-fascist attitude....
Premiership, Arsenal Top 6 - 4/6 Now 1/300 IcePrice. Seen enough calling this a Winner.
Ok last season my caution was rewarded when a took a top 6 position rather than the more ambitious top 4. This reason, I should have been bolder, Arsenal are actually sustaining a title challenge and sit 5 points clear at the top. They have a massive 16-point margin over 7th place. No hesitation in declaring this an early Winner.
Championship Middlesbrough, Promotion - 3/1 now 7/2 (Drifter)
So, I backed them on the basis that they had the ‘best’ manager, who then takes them into a relegation place and is sacked. I did however raise a concern about a proven goalscorer who was never recruited. So, new manager Michael Carrick does some magic on existing player Chuta Akpom who can’t stop scoring. Boro now in a play-off place and have signed another striker. Quietly optimistic about their prospects.
League one - Peterborough Top 6 - 6/5 Now 2/1 (Drifter)
‘The Posh’ have been super inconsistent. At one point they were going gangbangers and this looked a confident pick up. They have now slipped down to 9th and 5 points off 6th place. Peterborough have responded by doing what they always do and appointing Darren Ferguson for the fourth time, in an effort to get them back on track. Obviously, the price has drifted but they still in the mix.
League Two Mansfield Town Promotion 5/2 Now 7/2 (Drifter)
One of the most frustrating of this year’s picks, The Stags just keep chucking away leads turning 2-0 wins into 2-3 losses. They have been in and out of the play offs slots but currently sit 9th and two points shy. They are still in with a shout but need to push on.
National League Wrexham Promotion 4/5 now 1/4 (IcePrice)
The bookies seem to have the Red Dragons as nailed on certs; I wish. Reality is there is only one automatic promotion place, and they are currently in second place, five points behind Notts County but crucially have two games in hand. Solidarity to star striker Paul Mullin who got in a bit of trouble for wearing boots that had that had the message ‘Fuck the Tories’. IceMan hopes he scores 200 goals this season and has a cracking career. Respect.
Scottish Premiership - Aberdeen without Celtic/Rangers 17/4 Now Drifter
Except for Arsenal and Wrexham the main takeaway across the selections this year is inconsistency. At one stage Aberdeen were sitting comfortably in third place and looked a certain pick up. They then suffered a horrendous loss of form which has seen them overtaken by Hearts, they are now 3 points behind but having played a game more. This bet is still ‘live’ but Hearts have a significant advantage. Aberdeen got back to winning ways at the weekend, so hoping they can make a fight of this.
Scottish Championship - Dundee to win 7/4 Now 6/5 (IcePrice)
Continuing the theme, Dundee had looked like taking control of this league and had me looking forward to an early pay out. However, they never pushed on and now find themselves in third, 4 points adrift of Queens Park. Despite this their price has shortened as the bookies are pricing in the fact that their deeper squad should make the difference in the run in. I am quietly optimistic about collecting.
Scottish League One - Queen of the South to win 5/1 each way Now 66/1 (ShitePrice)
This pick started quite brightly and was in contention for a top 3 place during the early part of the season. Their form fell away leading to a recent Managerial change. They are in 8th place, 9 points off third so too little, too late for us. This is in the loss column.
Scottish League Two - Sternhousemuir to win 9/2 each way Now Drifter
Guess what? Sternhousemuir had an ok start to the season and looked like they would be challenging for a top 3 place. Another collapse in form and change of manager ensued. They now rest in 6th, 5 points away from third. Looks like too much of an ask, heading for a loss. Can’t find an updated each way market as only win only. Safe to say would be a substantial drifter.
Bundesliga - Dortmund without Bayern 5/4 Now would be ShitePrice
Dortmund have been disappointing, like a lot of my selections they have flattered to deceive at times, however they have never been able to put a winning run together. They are now in 6th, 5 points off 2nd. Hopefully they can improve and chase down some of the sides in front of them. Realistically, it looks like they have too much to do, and I would rather be on RB Leipzig at this stage. I cannot find a revised without Bayern Munich market, however, no doubt Dortmund would have drifted into ShitePrice territory.
Spain World Cup 8.5/1 (Lost)
Yes, of course, Spain started brilliantly beating Costa Rica 7-0. It was all downhill from there and they ended up tamely losing on penalties to Morocco.
New :
Napoli Champions League each way 150/1 now 16/1 (IcePrice)
Not previously posted this as added to portfolio after the domestic football positions. The Bet based on a massive price for a team who had started Serie A well. Unlike so many others, their fine form has continued, and they are top of Serie A, until last week they were unbeaten. They did win their latest game so hopefully no dramatic loss of form. They topped their champions league qualifying group pipping Liverpool. I Do have to point out Rangers were in this group and got nil points. HAHaHa. Next up a winnable tie against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Politics Lab/Lib Coalition 7/1
I put this on before the Truss implosion, at that stage a Lab majority looked remote. I would happily forego the winnings on this if it meant a Lab majority. it will be small consolation should they come up shy.
Grand National – Gaillard Du Mesnil 36/1 now 20/1 (IcePrice) plus Gericault Roque 36/1 now 33/1 both each way and the 36/1 were price boosts.
Cheltenham Gold Cup – The Stattler 12/1 now 10/1
I am a sucker for both races and love an ante post bet. I was about to do some research and the first articles I read were by Matt Brocklebank of Sporting Life who was putting up these selections. I looked at some other options but kept coming back to these on value. As ever with ante post we are taking a gamble that will even make the race.
Hopefully we can finish the season with some profit and use a bit of it to fight the forces of darkness and reaction.

We, at Rehmat’s Restaurant, bring together a rare blend of modern and traditional Pakistani and Indian cuisine along with the western delights of burgers, steak, and grill options, as a unique contribution towards the food takeaway in Aberdeen mission.
Here is a glimpse:
Our popular kebab delivery combinations start with the alternate between Chicken Seekh Kebab and Lamb Seekh Kebab. Further, you may combine them with the delights of Chicken Tikka, Chicken Wings, and Lamb Chops, to serve a yummy Mixed Grill start of the meal spread.
While hovering in the same cuisine, we have two elegant options of Biryani delivery. Order our Chicken Biryani, to relish the savoury flavours over spicy marinated chicken, caramelized onions and saffron rice. With the Lamb Biryani, on the other hand, put away your hunger pranks via a delicious Pakistani dish that brings an interesting and spicy harmony between tender bits of lamb and fluffy rice.
As we move towards the territory of Seafood delivery, fish and chips delivery in Aberdeen steals the show. Entertain your appetite with the fresh haddock, battered or bread crumbed, with the crisps of chips. Other than the fish and chips delivery option in the Seafood stack of dishes, you may choose from the array of Scampi, Salmon, Prawns, and Flaky fish. These come with their individual blends of spices, sauces, and accompaniments, as per our chef’s careful and skilled discretion.
In case Seafood is not something that tickles your taste buds, scroll towards the extensive Steak delivery selection carefully curated in our menu. You name it, we have it. In addition to our Chicken Steak delivery and Lamb Steak delivery, order food in Aberdeen from the various forms of Beef Steak delivery: would you like an order of fillet, rib-eye, sirloin, or t-bone? These steaks are a minimum of 10oz and are accompanied with peppercorn, cheese, or sweet chili sauce. Enjoy these with the crisps of chips or any other option of sides from an interesting range from creamy mash to onion rings to coleslaw.
Stake conversations are incomplete without being extended into the mouth-watering Burger conversations. This section is multi-appetizing: while the patty preparation ranges from grilled or marinated cooking method of chicken to lamb or fish fillet, to a mixture that combines beef with chicken strips; these patties are sandwiched between brioche burger buns; toppings include a selection of iceberg, tomato, red onions, cheese, mayo and burger relish; and last but not the least would be the sauce choices of Guacamole, Peri Peri or Sweet Chilli.
This list goes on and on. In times when everything is uncertain, the ability to find joy in little things, starting from every meal, is certain to bring some relief. With food delivery Aberdeen open now, feel free to put the latter of the two on your back burner, and allow the restaurants delivery Aberdeen team to put your dish on their front burner.

#aberdeen spoken word#tbh like i wasnt totally pissed at her last post#my main takeaways after a few days of rumination are that it was worded rlly immaturely & that it is egotistical + self serving like#one of my ldr mutuals brought up a good point which was that she could have totally said thst#she was uncomfortable being told she was setting feminism back bc shes directly talking abt her own trauma + feelings while that trauma was#occurring#i think they used the phrase ‘reclaiming her trauma + emotions’ or something more articulate than me but like#it wouldve been possible to say that without implying that you take more shit than anybody else for being......a ‘delicate’ cisgendered#white woman w loadsssss of money like actual for real money like.#i never got the sense that she was legitimately tear down the artists she name dropped it just came across as like. pretension and bitter#ness#but like!!!! the original note was so weirdly self pitying like lana every woman in music takes unfair criticism including the ppl u#namedropped#i just cant get over how she genuinely thinks theres no place for delicate feminine beauty queens like bitch the entire world is made for#you#the entire world is structured around YOU SPECIFICALLY#I JUST CANT. LIKE THIS MAKES IT WORSE#ITS LITERALLY POSSIBLE TO HAVE THIS DISCUSSION W/O THIS LEVEL OF SELF PITY AND EGO#YOU COULDVE JUST SAID#THAT YOURE IN CONTROL OF YOUR OWN STORY#IN THE FIRST ONE AND PEOPLE WOULD AGREE WITH YOU WHY ADD ALL THIS OTHER SHIT

diary prompts --- accepting!
05.     entry made after experiencing heartbreak.
September 16, 1989. Found out today that Lorcan has been seeing Tel when I’ve been away on tour. I think I should be upset, but I just feel empty inside. Of all the fucking people, Tel? What does that Welsh cocksucker have that I don’t? I can’t even tell anyone, I haven’t asked Lorcan about it yet, because I don’t even know what to say. Isn’t it some kind of indictment that your husband would rather be with his alcoholic, low-life ex instead of with you?
I wish I could be good enough for him. I wish I could be whatever he needs me to be. I don’t know what I’d do without him. Maybe in the next few days this is finally going to sink in and it’s going to hurt like hell, but right now, I just feel numb. I think that’s worse, just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I wish the universe would stop fucking punishing me.
12.     entry made discussing their hopes and dreams. 19.     entry made talking about a simple    /   normal day.
August 2, 1983. Haven’t written much cause life has been crazy lately, but in the good kind of way. I spend most of my days at work and as soon as five o’clock hits, it’s a mad dash to wherever to set up for the gig. Just spent the last few days playing in Edinburgh and Aberdeen and it was nice to get out of the city. It’s busy, but I love it. I love being on stage and playing music. Maybe this is what I was really meant to do. It’s so nice to know other people like me, or at least, they like my music. That’s good enough. I’ve had today off which is nice - don’t remember what a day off was like. Paul showed me the music review in NME and I got mentioned by name! I’m gonna paste it in here so I can remember this moment, my first nod in a music review. I slept till two o’clock today and got a takeaway curry to celebrate. Probably shouldn’t have spent that much because rent is due, but if things get better soon, I won’t have to live in this shitty flat anymore and maybe one day I’ll even have enough money to get a flat in the Merchant City. I can dream...
“...By far, the standout of the group is the younger Innes, who is responsible for the band’s recent chart success. He shuns the spotlight, letting his brother Paul take centre stage, but the best moments of the night come when he steps down to the microphone [...] James Innes is a curiosity on the Scottish indie music scene, exuding at once a quiet confidence in his melodies and a crippling fear of the limelight. He will be the one to watch in future projects.” --- New Musical Express, August 1983.

'New Love,' embodies our yearning for the what if, nestled in the hope and possibility for loving connection." Listen below.
X62
X62 (Ten-Sixty Two) is a pop/soul duo from Edmonton, Alberta. Think of that thrilling and terrifying period of time when you’ve fallen for someone, but don't yet know if they feel the same. Their new single, 'Hopelessly Hoping,' is about "those nights spent laying awake in bed picturing life with this person, desperately hoping they feel the same, knowing full well you can’t force someone else’s emotions. To turn it into a duet, we created a story where both people feel the connection, but neither is bold enough to let the other know. Mutually wondering if it's a hopeless endeavour or something greater. The song ends and we still don’t actually have an answer. We'd like to think that it ends happily and they both figure it out." Her musical style is definitely a reflection of her experience growing up in a desi household in the 90s. Romana is changing the way we view artists today and giving people everywhere permission to do it all. "I have had many conversations with my friends about energy vampires: individuals that can drain the life out of you!" says Romana. "My new song, 'ENERGY,' is about the give and take that each relationship needs to be healthy. Jeia Rouge produced this track and it was one of the most floetic, fun and egoless experiences I have had. Jeia is also the first and only female producer I have worked with. There is always something special about women coming together to create! If something or someone is not actually adding to your life then it has got to go! I want you to assess your own circles to make sure that there is no one in your life who is sapping your energy." Listen below.

Violet Hull
Violet Hull is a 20 year old singer songwriter of Thai and American descent currently developing her craft in Sydney, Australia. 'Buy This' is her debut single and is self-written, recorded and produced.  "It unleashes a lot of feelings I have about the world right now– the pleasures and pressures," explains Violet. "When will our selfishness eat us up? Will we make it out or sell ourselves into the ground? Creative sampling and satire taps into poignant realities about consumerism, narcissism, and social media. Though spacious, the song crescendos like the feelings of crisis that are palpable at the moment." It was first released with a stop-motion music video (created with conceptual artist and painter Kaye Mahoney) on youtube and IGTV. "'Buy This' doesn't just allude to consumerism, but the self-centred ideologies thrust upon us in a world that supported Trump's rise to US President," she continues. "I would love more people to be able to hear its message." Listen below.

Tekla Waterfield
Trouble In Time marks a first for husband and wife collaborators, award-winning Seattle based singer-songwriter Tekla Waterfield and multi-instrumentalist and producer, Jeff Fielder. Their two aesthetics have found maturity, meshing together to produce sensual, ephemeral songs nestled in lush beds of laid-back and stripped down grooves. Most of the album’s nine songs were written in 2020, in response to the heavy and anxiety-filled events taking place around the world. Despite the heavy subject matter, there is a resounding takeaway of hope for a brighter tomorrow in this collection of beautiful and haunting songs. Trouble in Time is out January 8. After graduating  from the University if Illinois at Urbana-Chapaign on a full athletic scholarship, she moved back home to Toronto and began releasing music  featuring her indie folk style with R&B-pop production. "My new song, 'Falling,' is about that uncontrollable feeling when you first start liking someone, but not finding the words to tell that person how you feel," says Jade. "The more time you spend with that person, the more you realize how beautiful they truly are. Writing this song was my way of expressing that." Listen below.

Seeing ALL the things...
Wanted an early start, so got takeaway breakfast and hopped in the car for the Sculptor’s Cave, on the north Moray coast near Elgin. This is a cave on the beach with Pictish carvings dating back to the 6th and 7th century. Unfortunately, it started raining as we arrived, and the signpost was down (are we in an adventure movie???), so we only walked as far as the lighthouse and turned back. (Which turned out to be a smart move - 10 minutes back in the car and it was pouring.) But the coastline was beautiful, and it was our first time seeing the North Sea.

We drove through the little town of Elgin and saw Loch Oire, then cut across from Elgin to Aberdeen on the east coast. There we walked across the Brig o’ Balgownie (late 1200s), which was a strategic point, as it was the only way to move large armies along the coast of Aberdeenshire. Another little waterfall too!

Had lunch in Aberdeen at Holburn Bar, which is sort of like Applebee’s meets sports bar, but with the tv’s on silent. I should mention here that I’ve now had mac & cheese three days in a row. I figure it is so popular here, it deserves at least the same attention as Indian food in London. Rankings to-date: #1 Castle Tavern in Inverness; #2 Cobbs Cafe in Fort Augustus; #3 Holburn Bar in Aberdeen. They were all better than what you normally get at home - I’m a purist, and don’t want truffle oil, bacon, breadcrumbs, or any other superfluous ingredients. I want mac, and I want cheese, and Scotland delivers.
Then about 2 more hours in the car (lots of driving today - thanks, P!) to Donnottar Castle in Stonehaven. THIS is what you imagine when you think of a Scottish castle. It’s out on a high bluff overlooking the North Sea; it was considered impregnable, and it’s easy to see why. It is speculated that it was in use as far back as the year 600, but most of the remaining buildings are from the 15th and 16th centuries. It is most famously known as the place where Scotland’s crown jewels, the Honours of Scotland, were hidden from Oliver Cromwell’s invasion in the 17th century. The last laird in residence, Earl Marischal, forfeited his titles when he participated in the Jacobite Rebellion in 1715.

One last stop for the day, in Kirriemuir to see a statue of Bon Scott, of AC/DC fame. Though the band hails from Australia, Bon was born in The Wee Red Toon, and his stage name comes from the nickname Bonnie Scot (shortened to Bon to be more “masculine.” 😂)

Then back in the car and on to Linlithgow, a suburb(?) of Edinburgh. We're staying in a really cute hotel that used to be the courthouse, the Court Residence. Had Italian at Bar Leo, about 2 blocks from the hotel, where a very large flying bug in the gelato case did not stop me from having 3 flavors. 🐷
