Online therapy update: I think this is week three of doing online therapy? This time it's working a lot better than last time. I think last time I was experiencing something much more acute, like I was in need of IMMEDIATE help and a lot more attention, and more frequent sessions that were face to face/ synchronous, even though I'm not a huge fan of talking. This time around it's more about lighter stressors. Like, lmao maybe not 'lighter' stressors, but more like daily stressors is why I'm seeking help. Vs. trying to untangle trauma from experiencing ongoing abuse, which is much more complex because I'm still IN the situation and needed more safety planning, resources, and getting the fuck out.

Decided to try talkspace again because things have significantly changed since the last time I did. It wasn't a fit before because I was looking for intensive trauma therapy and I just constantly felt unheard by their at-the-time majority white community of therapists, as part of the trauma I had experienced was related to filial piety, a cultural value I wanted to uphold (personal choice) but not in the EXACT precise way my parents wanted me to uphold it. A lot of white therapists can't hold space for that and just label filial piety as abusive/traumatic without understanding that some of us second gens like it and want to bring that forward in our own way; and others reject the form they were taught/expected to put forward, and it's MUCH more nuance than "chinese value!!! therefore abuse", which is clearly racist when you put it like that. TANGENT FOR BACKSTORY ASIDE, my current circumstance is more like, I need a cheerleader for self-care against a community that's kind of hustle/grindset focusssed at ALL costs (even health, family, friends, etc.) and I hate that. I just needed to be able to almost "rubber duck" out some of my issues with someone who isn't just like, stay up for 3 nights to get it done!!!!!!!! Because that's not human for me. With my current post-COVID health, I can barely stay up to midnight and function for the week. Yes the WEEK.

Fortunately, we can stay uplifted by taking time to care for ourselves. Here’s a look at how to manage self-care for better mental health during coronavirus.

Before you browse any suggestions, it’s essential to remember that you’re not alone. This sentiment may seem overly cheesy or even untrue, but it’s not! Feel free to keep updated with local and state mandates, but try not to go overboard. Allow yourself to check for essential news once a day for a specific amount of time—like 10 minutes in the morning—and then keep your distance.
2. ESTABLISH A SLEEP PATTERN
If you transitioned to remote work or school from a more active physical routine, your circadian rhythm likely took a hit. When there’s no reason to leave home or keep schedules, we can fall asleep at midnight and wake up at 1 p.m. without any repercussions—right? Wrong. Actually, sleep deprivation poorly affects mental health, so it’s necessary to figure out a better sleep pattern.

Update: I’ve found an online psychiatrist/therapist service through Cerebral (kind of like Betterhelp or Talkspace but with RX capabilities). I have an appointment with a prescriber on Thursday and a therapist on the 9th. We’ll start there.
Goddamn it. They have no openings for the pretesting session with a clinician where we’d determine which tests we’re going to do moving forward (ADHD, Autism, Speech Processing Disorder, etc.) based on my concerns until JUNE 2022! I was told I can try messaging every once in a while to check on if they had a cancellation and could move me up. Otherwise we’ll wait until the first opening. 😯🤯😭😂
