Lord Unwin named his famous uncle Ser Gedmund Peake, known as Great-Axe for his favorite weapon, as commander of a fleet composed of eight great warships (commissioned by Ser Tyland) and twenty older cogs and galleys. Ser Gedmund was no sailor, so his second was a sellsail known as Ned Bean, more often called Blackbean for his beard. When they set sail for the Stepstones, Racallio Ryndoon’s power had largely been swept from the sea, but he still retained control of the largest isle, called Bloodstone. Braavos and Pentos jointly controlled most of the rest of the Stepstones. Knowing they could not defeat Braavos at sea, Lord Unwin ordered Ser Gedmund to defeat Ryndoon and his sellsails, then take over Bloodstone and use that as a base to keep the narrow sea open for trade. Ser Gedmund turned to Alyn Velaryon in turn, commanding him to turn over control of the Velaryon squadrons to Ned Bean. Lord Alyn refused to relinquish the command, but his ships dutifully joined the fleet.

By the time they reached the isle of Tarth, where their strength was augmented by a dozen longships commanded by Lord Bryndemere the Evenstar, the situation had changed on the Stepstones. The Sealord of Braavos, the Archon of Tyrosh, and Racallio Ryndoon had made common cause. With full control of the Stepstones, only ships licensed by Braavos or Tyrosh would be allowed safe passage. Learning of this, Gedmund Great-Axe sent word back to King’s Landing, wondering how to proceed. While Alyn Velaryon urged immediate action, saying that the element of surprise would be lost if they waited too long, Ser Gedmund refused to budge.

When the maester informs Rhaenys of Corlys’s return and injuries he said the ravens flew to Driftmark from Evenfall. They also said it was 3 days travel by sea from Evenfall to Driftmark!

Part 9 : Lady_In_Red's prose is elegant and intense. There are so many good stories! It's hard to choose.

- Spy Games is a modern AU filled with action, sexual tension and humor.

- Battle is the Great Redeemer is a brilliant season 8 fix-it inspired by Edge of Tomorrow.

- Salt Wife is an angsty short story about misunderstanding set at the end of A Dream Of Spring.

- All the Redemption I Can Offer is another brilliant story. What would The Winds of Winter look like in a modern AU? Jaime and Brienne meet in a motel in Pennytree : angst, smut, action. A little gem of a story.

She passed the reins to a nearby stable lad, then tugged self-consciously at her creased and stained tunic, squared her shoulders and turned on her heel. The man standing in the middle of the yard topped her own prodigious height by a number of inches. His ashy blonde hair tossed in the ever-present breeze. Creases fanned from his intense blue eyes. Dressed plainly, his only concession to rank was the quality of the wool and linen, and he wore and a Tarth sigil embroidered on the right shoulder of his jerkin. Brienne returned the man’s even gaze. ‘Father.’

look I like gwendolyn christie and peter dinklage a lot and I think they did a really good job on the show and everything and the issue isn't even really that they're not ugly enough. it's that they're not young enough. tyrion's cynicism and wit and sentimentality and rage all come across really differently from a guy in his forties than from a guy in his early twenties. and brienne my god in the books she's a baby. she's a teenager. when she's wandering all over westeros looking for sansa she keeps telling people she's looking for her "sister" and although yes it's because she's afraid to use sansa's name or explain why she's looking for her it's also because she saw catelyn as a mother. with renly she's a kid with her first crush and it's as silly and misguided and heartbreaking as sansa's crush on the knight of flowers. jaime is like. the first guy she has ever actually met. every time he does anything she's like "what are you doing 😠" and he's like "having a personality 😉" and she's like "well don't"
