Sorry to bother, but I don’t know much about basketball so could you explain the difference between the strategies used in canon vs in BIL for the Kaijou match?

i also don't know that much about basketball, but let's just pretend ok?

canon: run-and-gun to the theme of gasolina, and being caught by surprise at what kise can do, no defense, utter shock when kuroko's misdirection wears out, seirin's hopes and dreams hingeing on kagami and kuroko finally working together to bypass kise. oh yeah, dramatic kise accidentally backhands kuroko, some bittersweet friendship/ex-teammate drama conveyed through longing glances. ganbatte through the power of teamwork, friendship, and hopes and dreams.

bil: kuroko is gonna run out of misdirection. don't rely on it completely, use it as the final blow. they'll lag in the beginning, but that's fine - just stay in the game. kise is arrogant and selfish, overly reliant on his 'power', but has the weakness of the body not being able to keep up. he doesn't care about winning as much as he cares about dominating his opponent -> he's not playing the most efficient way to help his team take an impassable lead. piss him off and 'bend him back and forth like a paper clip' until he can't take it. when kaijou then has to deal with kise and figure out what happened, kuroko can come in for the rest of the game and help them catch up bc kise can't mitigate. it's not a guaranteed win. but it's the smartest way to play with the resources you have.

the score is reflective that kaijou was able to score way ahead of seirin, and seirin had to fucking sprint to catch up. but never underestimate the bolster that is mental steadiness - knowing that that is what you're trying to do and not get caught by surprise.

tldr: the difference in strategy is 'being deliberate'. knowing where their own weaknesses were and working with that in mind, rather than just trying to overtake kaijou with sheer speed, luck, and shonen juice.

*edit: si!kagami is also more well-rounded of a player, not just dunking. bc of his past life perspective, he values the well-roundedness, as well as physical flexibility and other physical hobbies that translate well (FlexN, as i briefly mentioned in ch 4, is a type of breakdancing. super popular when kagami is supposed to be a kid and where he's located - there's a specific subcategory called bone-breaking. he's very flexible, agile, and balanced for a guy his size). he also knows from knb what he needs to train. final thing - bc the whole tatsuya thing didn't blow up, the two of them butt heads and practice against each other a lot pre-japan, and they bother alex way more.

canon!kagami doesn't have that advantage but has higher dunking power. he also went through a Bad Time after Tatsuya fought with him, and didn't play for much longer than si!kagami. also he's really not a strategic/tactical guy - more intuition.

I want to hug Banba so badly right now… This boys’ facial expressions are amazing. Like, you can tell he’s in agony over the fact that, as far as he knows, he, personally, destroyed the only way to save his brother.

But, to do some random spitball theorising… Could there have been a situation where Banba felt like he screwed up, and then when he trusted someone to help they betrayed him in some way? No grounding for this, just musing.

I always wonder how much they tell the actors? Like, is it like Game of Thrones where they only tell them things that the characters would know? By that logic, Tatsuya may know what Banba’s side of the story is… Though I seem to remember that Keisuke said something that implied he didn’t know all of Kuro Woz’s backstory… Though maybe he was deflecting a question. I dunno.

Okay, it’s not actually that similar, but that cut from the dramatic scene of the others declaring they trust Melto and Kou/resigning to giving them a chance while also having some sort of secret trauma flashback or something over the concept of ‘trust’ (in Banba’s case) to Kou being yeeted into a pile of barrels made me think of that scene in Kyuranger where Lucky gives a speech about how much faith they have in Shou and what a great leader he is––and then it cuts to Shou screaming hysterically about how they’re all going to crash into the sun and die.

Kou is a very reckless oaf, and I love him to bits.

Preview: Don’t trust the sisters, and I suspect they have vocal powers, perhaps to control others. I do wonder if this is going t reveal more about the brother’s past at all as a parallel? “Hmmm~ where is Gome-chin?”

“Gome-chin?” Kise repeated having heard the tall purple haired male. Blinking, Kise noticed Murasakibara looking towards the door before eyes dropped to the screen of his phone. Was he waiting on someone?

Raising a brow, Kagami placed another plate of fried chicken in the middle of the table. “Who is ‘Gome-chin’?” He turned his head towards Himuro, noticing the smile on his lips. “Is someone else coming, Tatsuya?”

“Ah,” Kuroko popped in (making both Kagami and Aomine jump in place), “Murasakibara-kun did ask if it was okay to invite someone else. I had no problem with it.”

“It’s my house…” Kagami’s brow twitched. Sure he had thrown Kuroko a birthday party, but these sudden invites were not being run by him. First the Generation of Miracles, and now some ‘Gome-chin’?

“’Gome-chin’ is Kagome-chan.” Himuro chuckled. “A classmate of mine, and well, someone Murasakibara took interest in.”

“Eh?” All eyes blinked simultaneously as heads turned to see the said Center pouting at his empty notifications. Murasakibara was interested in someone?

A big scoff escaped Aomine’s lips before taking a big sip from his cup. “Like that giant would be interested in anything other than food. Is she made of cake or something?”

“Hm,” Murasakibara hummed, “Kagome does look delicious.”

Faces paled having a feeling someone like him would try something like that.

“Ma, ma,” Himuro snickered, “she would kill you if you tried something like that, Atsushi.”

“Well, I won’t believe it until I see she is real.” Aomine rolled his eyes before pouring himself another drink of juice.

Before anyone else could ask questions about the mysterious girl, the echo of the door bell caught their attention. Everyone froze with only heads turning to the direction of the door. Seeing as no one was getting up, Akashi chuckled under his breath as he stood from his seat.

“I’ll go.” He spoke making his way towards the exit. Opening the door, Akashi blinked taken back by the sight of the black haired girl holding her phone in front of her.

“Ah,” she smiled nervously, “is this perhaps…um, Kagami-san’s apartment?”

“It is.” Akashi nodded. “Are you ‘Gome-chin’?”

The nickname sprung a vein on her forehead, “he is calling me that in front of his friends? Is he here?” Getting a nod from the Rakuzan captain and being led inside, Kagome removed her shoes before stomping her way into the living room (careful not to move the contents of the bag she carried). “Murasakibara-kun! If you are going to introduce me, say my actual name!”

“Ah~ Gome-chin~.” He waved. “You’re late.”

“Uso…” Aomine and Kise blinked at the same time while the others had stopped moving and talking to see the second year girl. Once again, heads turned towards Murasakibara; Aomine slammed his cup on the coffee table. “How the hell were you able to get a babe like that?!”

“Excuse me?” Kagome’s brow rose. “Who are you calling babe?”

“Gome-chin, did you bring sweets?” He yawned. “I need sugar.”
