Interesting to read the count of monte cristo right after jane eyre bc both are good examples of orientalism as Said first detailed it, but in different ways. “Eastern”objects”” and “”rituals”” hold a morbid fascination that must be reckoned with (not destroyed but changed) in JE, and similar objects and rituals are something to be coveted and possessed ‘by the right person’ in TCoMC. Was wondering if i should think about this from a gendered perspective, but I would hate to read that essay; there are too many other social components going on (e.g- the authors' race, nationality, how respectively traveled they were.) The more interesting approach would be that brontë and dumas are wielding this idea of “the east” differently only insofar as to genre, thinking about how a gothic romance compares to an action-adventure

sorry but we need to state this. edit: also @fan-fictions and @fan-arts.
screen-shot took from the first episode of “Total-dramaRama”, the new series spin-off of the franchise “Total Drama”. Scene reference around 3:55-4:00. I hope this will become sooner or later a meme because it’s such good material and very relatable.

Honestly it's morning and all characters yote from my head buT I just remembered. The count of monte cristo
Obviously you mean the book guy and not the gacha game character. I think it’s funny that it’s actually a pretty good adaptation
Sexuality Headcanon:
Revenge (He’s bi but he doesn’t know that’s something you can do)
Gender Headcanon:
Left behind at the Chateau d’If
A ship I have with said character:
Mercedes that shit hurted :/ and also. I’m have to say Villefort or I’m a fake friend
A BROTP I have with said character:
He’s a fake bitch canonically he doesn’t have all that many people I can really consider friends but. Theoretically I wanna say Heloise also I think the way he treated Franz on that island was so so fucking funny
A NOTP I have with said character:
I think the fact that there are still people who post MonteHaydee in the tcomc tag is so awful like what year is it
A random headcanon:
He and Vampa always approach each other with sneaky, evil type movements even when they 100% know they’re alone or could bribe the people present anyway bc they don’t know how to interact outside of the context that they’re absurdly multi-skilled Bad People
General Opinion over said character:
*arrow flying over my head* wow! cool revenge!I I have a lot of thoughts about him when I take it seriously it makes me kinda :( I thought I got spoiled for it in the middle of reading but it turns out what I saw was from a tv miniseries so I thought for most of it that Albert was his son

People are like "Gérard de Villefort is a flawed character" and starting to name his autistic traits
(but okay, most often people just blatantly mischaracterize him but it's still related to being autistic)

I wish I'd get high at least once in my past life. Imagine how easy things would go:
Valentine : father I know you're gonna be mad but I love Max!
Villefort, inhaling Stuff™: okay, good luck with your new husband
Val: father!.. are you sure?
Villefort: yeah
Val: why are your eyes red?
Villefort, exhaling smoke: tears of joy

Here's a take I want to be able to fully explain once I'm recovered: Villefort's actions aren't justifiable in any way, but Villefort is still innocent.

Villefort: pansexuality is a tiger, and tigers always attack from behind...
D'Avrigny: ...
D'Avrigny: your daughter is dead, wtf are you talking about

Héloïse: do you prefer coffee or tea?
Villefort: I prefer not being alive.

Dantés: how could these horrible people have ruined my life for their personal gain?
Also Dantés to Faria: let's kill an innocent guard, escape justifies it :)))

In the end Monsieur de Villefort went insane or, to be more precise, it's implied that he had a psychotic breakdown.
My headcanon is that he didn't. In that moment he suffered a very intense flashback.

Even though I'm often getting cranky about stuff in tcomc, I gotta admit that Dumas used a powerful strategy to ensure survival of this story: he made it appealing to autistic and other ND people. And we're the kind of people to reread the same stuff over and over again and then talk about it endlessly to lure more people into liking it.

This is a weird thing to wish, but I want Maximilian/Villefort ship. Wonder how the Count would solve that problem.
Count: so what if there are people dying there?
Max: but I'm in love! Valentine de Villefort ! She has... Such a nice father!
Count: honey, no, this is gross.
