remember when i said new marathon looks like cheap shit??????
its almost like bungie axed most of their creative team well before new marathon went into its final stage of development and its almost like this game was made to mirror other cash-cow player-milker type multiplayer games. its almost like this is fucking soulless and absolutely no one that worked at bungie in the 90s works there now and this is just the least possible effort they could possibly put into a game to grab your attention. why else would a narrative plot driven storyline be turned into a fucking hero-based extraction shooter. [because you dont have to do any of that scary expensive writing/gamedev!! just reuse every map for 1000 hours]
even DESTINY had effort and artistry put into it.
the art theft is a direct result of understaffing and careless passionless management. someone that was supposed to be creative and original didnt have the time or get paid enough to put in the effort to actually make something original. and management doesnt give enough of a fuck to be checking anyones work
this is a game born from CAPITALISM. as opposed to marathon/durandal/infinity, which were born from WEIRD PEOPLE WHO HAD SOMETHING FUCKY WITH THEIR HEADS like all good art

Playing some Marathon. Mixed feelings so far. Its neat. Exploring is fun. The extraction part is great. The visual style and music are fantastic. Lots to like.
But as a long time Apex Legends player it feels VERY slow. Not always in a bad way though. But the Heat (stamina) system really makes it feel like even doing basic stuff like sprinting to catch up with your team is very limited. Climbing and manteling isnt as fast or fluid as in Apex, and as far as I can tell there's no vaulting. So the action is very much rooted to the ground. Or at least that's my early impression.

Gunplay feels fine, but movement and positioning feels sluggish. It may just be that I need time to adjust though. I often feel this way when moving from one shooter to another. I played Destiny for years, and I assumed Marathon would feel like that. It kind of does.
Way more pve and exploration than I expected. I assume as people get used to the game pvp encounters will be more common. The pve enemies that I encountered weren't super tough, but they can catch you by surprise, and they can knock you if youre not careful.
The characters feel pretty basic. Their kits are okay, but each feels kind of generic. I may feel different as I spend more time with them. None of their kits stand out as much as anything in Apex Legends. At the same time , movement is sluggish enough that it feels like you're really supposed to be relying on the kits as much as gunplay. But right now the kits don't feel very significant. In fact, I keep forgetting to use most of the abilities. I'm sure Bungie doesn't want the kits to dominate the fights over gunplay, teamwork and good positioning, but right now they just don't feel super impactful. Maybe that will change as I play more.

I REALLY wish that the Runners weren't 4 specific characters. It makes the game world feel very small. And makes it hard for me to invest in my runner. Also, none of them are nearly as cool looking as the Runners we've seen in the concept art and original trailer. All 4 are kind of painfully generic. If you're going to do characters, they need to actually BE characters.
I really wish we had full visual customization for our Runners. That may eventually end up being what keeps me from sticking with the game. I want my Runner to be MY runner, not one of 4 identical character choices that everyone else is also choosing. That's extremely boring. Yes, we know there will be skins, but playing the exact same character as everyone else, but in a Christmas outfit, is not what I want. Let me make my own runner, even if I'm still choosing from one of the 4 mechanical kits. Let me make my Scout or Destroyer look however I like. Not every player cares about that kind of stuff, but I do. In order for me to invest in the game I need to be able to invest in my character.
I'm eager to play more. Right now the base of the game feels like it could be fine with some small adjustments. But it also feels barebones. I don't mean because the alpha is limited to two maps and 4 Runners. More of both will come fast, I'm sure. But everything feels very basic at the moment. From the very mundane guns, the generic Runner kits, the super basic screens (character select, inventory, etc). It's just an alpha, so I assume there's more to come. I hope so.

Gold Medal Girlfriends - a Wolfwren fanfiction
A/N: Hello everyone! Here is my second anniversary gift to all of you! This story is based on two fanarts made by @somewillwin ten days ago and as soon as I saw them I knew I just had to write something! Here is an extract and if you enjoy it you can find the link to the whole story at the end!
The ride back to Paris was rambunctious. The Australian team was riding with the Americans, and while they had not won, they were quite ready to celebrate for Sabine’s gold. The medal was heavy and comforting around her neck, but despite the music blaring at the back of the minivan, Sabine wasn’t dancing. She was maxing out the Internet her mobile plan allowed her to watch the fencing competition on her phone. It was the semi-finals already, and Ukraine was facing against Japan.
“Sabine, it’s not fun if you’re not celebrating,” Ketsu, the US shooter, shouted at her as she tried to take Sabine’s phone from her hands.
One glance at the screen told her all she needed to know. Ketsu rolled her eyes.
“How is your girlfriend doing?”
“She’s last to go.”
“Okay, well, enjoy your fencing, I’ll party on your behalf.”
“There will be plenty of time to party when Shin also has her gold medal. Heck, she might even win two.”
The next day would be the individual saber women’s competition, which Sabine had no doubt Shin would also win. Behind her, Ketsu turned up the volume of the music she was playing at the back, to the point that Sabine could not even hear the commentators anymore. Suddenly, Shin’s name appeared on the little banner at the bottom of the screen, although Sabine would not have been able to tell, with her helmet already on her head.
“Shut up, shut up, shut up,” she shouted in the car. “Turn the music down, it’s Shin’s turn.”
Ketsu obeyed. All the passengers turned to Sabine and the commentator’s voice coming through the tiny speakers of her phone.
“A good defense from Ukraine’s side. Hati seems to be waiting for her opponent to strike and overextend herself. And…”
The clear sound of metal on metal echoed out of the phone.
“Hati strikes. That’s one more point of Ukraine, 37 to 28.”

>Man it is going to be funny in a cosmic way when solstice begins next week.
It's so wild because I had JUST been talking with friends last week about my prediction was:
"Marathon is going to flop HARD because no one wants to see one of the most narratively creative FPS' of the boomer shooter genre turn into a fucking extraction shooter with NO major character customization. Then Bungie would announce whatever Project Payback was and it'd be a NEW destiny thing with no saved progression, it wouldn't get the pre-orders it needs and Sony would liquidate the asset of Bungie as a whole."
I was NOT however, expecting them to layoff 17 fucking percent of their employees, which given the layoffs last October, means they're now down roughly ~24% of their employee base give or take, which then turned into some of their longest employed higher ups QUITTING. Thing is a shit show dude, and if the "leaks" are to be believed, we're going back to CoO and Warmind sized expansions, getting the base seasonal content with them, and then having to buy the battlepass reward tier as extra.
Outside of a game I really used to love being driven STRAIGHT into the ground, I'm mad because one of the talented team members let go was the artist who was given titans SO MUCH good armor. Titans can't have shit anymore man.

Top 1 of this shooter MMORPG category ever existed in the past:

Candidate games of the category:
Fallout 76 (MORPG & not MMORPG, shooter, shared world, quests)
DC Universe (MMORPG, shooter with aim-assist, no reticle)
Secret World Legends (headshot and bodyshot are the same, needs X-mouse to bind to bind shooting actions to mouse??)

Project LLL (released in 2024?)
Others:
Destiny 2 (extraction shooter, not open-world)
Warframe (extraction shooter, not open-world)
The Division 1/2/Heartland (RPG, not having a sharing world between players)

Extraction Looters
I had a supriningly difficult time actually finding out what extraction looters are even called as is a uncommonly used term and an uncommon game type as a whole. However some of them are some of the most famous games, Escape From Tarkov, Vigor and even Dead By Daylight is technically an extraction looter. It was also somewhat unclear which game actually pioneered this genre with people discussing weather some games classified with the genre such as The Division, from what I could see on reddit and other forums most people agree that The Division should be considered as the starting point for the genre with it being released in 2016 whereas Escape From Tarkov was released in 2017.
This too is interesting as it means that not only is it a small genre it is also a very new genre when you consider most genres are many decades old now or even thousands of years old if you are considering board games.
There are still quite a few of these games around despite the genres youth and here are a few of those:
I also found it interesting that most games within the genre focus on 2 things, Player vs player combat and Gun based combat, which my game will have neither of. However there is one game, Dark And Darker. This game focuses primarily on player vs enemy combat and melee based combat as it is set in the medieval era. However dark and darker, while not being focused on it, does in fact have a large element of PVP and for the some players is the draw. And even games such as Helldivers 2, while being extremely PvE based does also allow you to kill members of your team whenever and however you like. From what I could find there is actually no looter extraction where there's is no pvp feature whatsoever which is something unique that my game will have.
