My brother and I went to this neat art installation in Tokyo today, and it was super cool! I dressed up in my cutesy dress and my brother (very kindly) took my picture. These were my favorite, from the garden section.
If you’re ever in Japan, I highly recommend TeamLabs! This installation was Planets, but yesterday my brother and I went to their other one in Tokyo called Borderless and it was also so cool. More projection based art in that one, while Planets is more physical. For example, we had to be barefoot because at two places in the installation we had to walk through water (which is why I’m barefoot in the photo ha). One was flowing the other was almost knee deep. Super cool.
Tokyo regularly tops tourists’ must-visit lists—and for good reason! With more than 35 million inhabitants, Japan’s capital is a city of extremes. So, matter what first brought Tokyo to your attention—be it cosplay culture, onsen life, or their galaxy of Michelin-starred restaurants—you’ll find it.
Though I was not emotionally ready to have to go barefoot and roll up my pants, or deal with such a big crowd (my fault for not doing enough research lol), it was fun to feel the textures change under your feet as we transitioned from one installation to the next:
This museum(?)/attraction was soo cool. It's called TeamLab Planets in Tokyo, it's an immersive art exhibit. It's hard to pick a favorite room, but mine was probably the falling flower light show room. Everyone just lied in the center of the room and watched. The whole room was flower scented. After that, we spent the rest of the day in Toyosu at a shopping mall of some kind. We ate some really yummy cakes and had amazing mocha lattes by the water.
I came back from my trip to Japan. Overwhelmed, inspired, in awe – of literally everything. Let me start with what I did on my last day of the trip – and tell you why you need to visit TeamLab Planets in Tokyo.
What is TeamLab Planets?
As explained in my previous post, TeamLab Planets is now an exhibition centre that was founded by artists and scientists from various fields.
It is one of the…
For this you are barefoot the entire time, got start off walking up a slope with running water on your feet. Next up is a room with a squishy floor and beanbags on the walls to get you away from the hard floors we are used too. Then it’s the LED light sensory room, you could change the colours with their app, the mirrored walls, ceiling and floor made it a 360 experience, super calming!
Then onto a water room with projections of koi fish and flowers on the water. After this the falling flowers where you lay on the floor and the projections are on the ceiling and make you feel that the sky and walls are moving, sounds awful but was so relaxing!
Then the room of the giant inflatable balls that changed colour when touched!
Lastly was the garden, first up the silver pods surrounded by moss and smoke, looked like they were straight out of doctor who! Finally the flower room with living flowers hung from the ceiling that moved up and down. The smell in the room was divine!
