Elections in India are a grand spectacle of democracy, characterized by vibrant campaigns, fervent public engagement, and, crucially, the influence of economic policies. The relationship between economic decisions made by ruling parties and their subsequent electoral outcomes is both complex and intriguing. As the 2024 India Poll is scheduled, we delve into how major economic policies have historically shaped the political landscape of India, influencing voter behavior and determining the fate of political parties.

Indian Elections (Part 2)
Part 2 of the result and campaign opinions is here!
I know I said that Rajasthan was Congress's biggest comeback, well I take it back because INDIA alliance won in Maharashtra with Congress getting 13 seats, Shiv Sena (og one) with 9 and NCP (again, og one) with 8. With BJP getting 9 seats, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde one) and NCP (new one) getting 7 and 1 seats respectively, NDA lost 28 of its seats. And honestly, what a banger. Sharad Pawar probably deserves credit for this, that man is a shrewd politician. Also, the Congressi responsible for campaigning in Maharashtra also deserves credit, because Congress performed well and beyond the expectations here.
Tamil Nadu my beloved. Major INDIA sweep! DMK (22) and Congress (9) while BJP remained on the zero mark. As expected of the Tamil public. Everyone say thank you to DMK's campaign and BJP's incompetency to get the Tamilians on their side.
Chhattisgarh is an almost BJP sweep, with BJP getting 10 and Congress getting 1. Expected for Congress, given the Vidhaan Sabha results last year.
Another almost BJP (25) sweep is Gujarat, again, as expected. It is, after all BJP's garh, as my mother calls it. Very heavy campaign that paid off for BJP. Hats off to the Congressi who won 1 seat, probably worked very hard on his own.
Things get tricky in Karnataka, where BJP won with 17 seats and Congress got 9. Again, not much familiar with Karnataka politics, but BJP did lose 8 of its seats, so I guess a part of the public is losing trust in the government but it's not a majority yet. A Rajasthan like situation.
TDP shines in Andhra Pradesh with 16 seats, BJP with 4. Congress remained on its zero mark. Chandrababu Naidu come to the INDIA bloc you can be deputy PM
Congress (14), Muslim League (2) and CPIM (1) lead INDIA alliance to an almost sweep in Kerala, BJP getting 1 seat. I'm so glad that Shashi Tharoor won from Thiruvananthapuram, he is a delight to watch.
Things are perfectly balanced as all things should be in Telangana, with both Congress and BJP winning 8 seats each. I guess the public has major divide on issues and opinions.
That's it for this part, I thought this will be done in 2 parts, but guess not.

KCR Wanted to Arrest BJP's BL Santosh: Big Claim in Tapping Row
Inquiries into the Telangana phone-snooping row have thrown up yet another explosive allegation - that then Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wanted to arrest senior BJP leader BL Santosh to force a "compromise" and "get rid of the Enforcement Directorate case" against his daughter K Kavitha.
Tumblr media
The allegations were made by ex-Deputy Commissioner of Police P Radhakrishna Rao in a six-page confession that contained damning claims, including one that said he "arm-twisted certain persons creating trouble" for the former Chief Minister and/or his family members and the ruling party.
Mr Rao - arrested in March from his Banjara Hills Hyderabad home - also claimed he had, on orders from the Chief Minister or his inside circle, been active in "suppressing dissent or protest or agitation against the BRS (then called the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, or TRS) and/or its government…"
The former senior cop, who was also a member of the Hyderabad City Task Force, said KCR, whom he called "peddayana" or his "elder", would get "irritated by minor dissent or criticism"
But perhaps the biggest flashpoint was an elaborate plot-and-counterplot drama involving the BRS' Tandur lawmaker Panjugula "Pilot" Rohith Reddy, an alleged poaching attempt by the BJP, and the former Chief Minister scheming to entrap his rivals and force dropping of charges against Ms Kavitha.
"… sometime in the last week of October (before the 2023 Assembly election), one day Prabhakar Rao told me Chief Minister had information from an MLA that some persons claiming to be influential in BJP (were) asking him to leave BRS and join (the rival party)," Mr Rao said in his letter.
T Prabhakar Rao was then the chief of the Special Intelligence Branch and reportedly tasked by the former Chief Minister with running the allegedly illegal phone tapping operation. Prabhakar Rao - expected to return shortly from the United States - has been named as 'Accused No 1' in the case.
"KCR, thinking to use this to corner the BJP, had asked the Special Intelligence Branch to put surveillance over these private persons (reportedly from the saffron party) and the MLA…"
The result was an audio tape that led to the arrest of three people after a 'sting op' at the farmhouse on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The BJP firmly denied it tried to poach any BRS legislators.
A SIT, or special investigative team, was set up to 'investigate' the BRS' poaching claims, and it was this team that K Chandrasekhar Rao reportedly wanted to use to arrest the BJP's BL Santosh.
Mr Santosh was named as an accused in the case but, after a stay from the Telangana High Court, authorities confirmed in November 2022 he would not be questioned in this matter.
However, the unfortunate, "inefficiency of some Cyberabad police officers" put a premature end to this operation. "The case went to the High Court, where do-not-arrest orders were issued and the case was transferred to the CBI (which reports to the centre)… pedayanna KCR was very angry."

Layout Development program in hyderabad telangana
Development programs have faced delays for several months due to the Election Code, hindering the progress of key projects. Now that the election rush has concluded, the HMDA will prioritize existing projects over new ones until the election results are finalized. Top officials are planning to develop layouts on non-agricultural lands acquired with farmers' consent in the Patu areas. During the previous government’s tenure, substantial revenue was generated by creating and selling layouts, benefiting both the farmers who provided the land and the HMDA, which used the funds for metropolitan infrastructure development.

Rabi Crop Arrival in Market Leads to Decline in Rice Prices
Due to rising market supply and government initiatives, the cost of rice has decreased by up to 10% over the previous month, making the basic food grain more accessible to Indian households. Prices for basmati rice have dropped by 10%, whilst non-basmati rice has decreased by up to 7%. In advance of the general elections, the government should benefit from the price decrease of the most popular grain. The selling costs of non-basmati rice have decreased as a result of the rabi crop's gradual entry into the market from Telangana, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu, according to trade sources.

Video from AP falsely connected to violence over BJP votes in Kannauj
The phase 4 of the Lok Sabha elections took place in several parts of the nation on May 13, 2024. 96 seats in 10 states and union territories like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir etc. were up for polls in this phase. Owing to the voting going on in the country, a video was posted in that context on Instagram which claims that violence occurred at one of the polling booths in Kannauj. The fight amongst the people shown in the video was allegedly a result of not voting for Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). The viral post claiming polling booth violence in Kannauj over BJP votes (source: Instagram) link
Truth
The video in the viral post shows scenes of a polling booth where inscriptions on the walls were written in a seemingly South Indian language. This cue gives a hint of the place of fight not being Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh.
Tumblr media
The walls in the video show inscriptions in a South Indian language On further reverse image search, the video was found to be from Andhra Pradesh. An article by NDTV reported that the video from Andhra Pradesh features A Sivakumar, Tenali's YSR Congress Party MLA slapping a voter in the booth. The fight allegedly happened when the voter being hit in the video opposed YSRCP MLA's attempt to skip the cue for voting. Voter who objected to #Guntur District #TenaliMLA #Sivakumar jumping queue, was slapped by him & voter returned in kind; ugly show of political musclepower as the @ysrcp MLA candidate's henchmen joined attack on voter #BoothViolence #ElectionsWithNDTV #AndhraPradeshElections2024 pic.twitter.com/Z5wK0enrWK — Uma Sudhir (@umasudhir) May 13, 2024 Read the full article

Modi takes a jibe over Gandhi’s ‘Shakti’ comment, asks him for clarification
In the Monday political game, The comment made by Rahul Gandhi with the wording ‘Shakti’ garnered a sharp response from the Bhartiya Janta Party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his rally in Telangana, took a dig at Gandhi and asked him to clarify the same.
Gandhi commented during the culmination of the Bharat Jodi Nyay Yatra and many more before that stirred a sharp reaction on social media already. This time, the PM lashed out at these comments with great power. Shakti is a word that represents Goddess in Hindi. The PM said that Shakti represented “Bharat Mata” (Mother India, the personification of the country) and that he was ready to embrace the challenge of “prevent the eradication of Shakti”.
PM Modi further said that the manifesto of the INDIA bloc of opposition parties “targets Shakti, representing every mother, daughter, and sister. I revere them as Shakti and worship Bharat Mata. Their aim to eradicate Shakti is a challenge I embrace. I am ready for the battle ahead. How can anyone on this Earth talk of destroying Shakti when everyone worships it?”
Gandhi, while speaking on the completion of his 62-day east-to-west peregrination that began in Manipur, commented “In the Hindu religion, there is a word called shakti. We are fighting shakti…We are fighting against a shakti. The question is, what is that shakti? Like someone here said, the king’s soul is in the EVMs. That is right. The king’s soul is in the EVM, is inside every institution in India, is inside the ED, CBI, the Income Tax department.”
Answering this, Modi in Jagtial, Telangana said, “ We dedicated the success of the Chandrayaan mission by naming the point where Chandrayaan landed as ‘Shiv Shakti.’ The fight is between those who want to destroy ‘Shakti’ and those who worship ‘Shakti.’ The verdict will be out on June 4.”
April 19 will mark the beginning of the elections in India and the result will be declared on June 4.
