StreamBuilder: our open-source framework for powering your dashboard.
Today, we’re abnormally jazzed to announce that we’re open-sourcing the custom framework we built to power your dashboard on Tumblr. We call it StreamBuilder, and we’ve been using it for many years.
First things first. What is open-sourcing? Open sourcing is a decentralized software development model that encourages open collaboration. In more accessible language, it is any program whose source code is made available for use or modification as users or other developers see fit.
What, then, is StreamBuilder? Well, every time you hit your Following feed, or For You, or search results, a blog’s posts, a list of tagged posts, or even check out blog recommendations, you’re using this framework under the hood. If you want to dive into the code, check it out here on GitHub!
StreamBuilder has a lot going on. The primary architecture centers around “streams” of content: whether posts from a blog, a list of blogs you’re following, posts using a specific tag, or posts relating to a search. These are separate kinds of streams, which can be mixed together, filtered based on certain criteria, ranked for relevancy or engagement likelihood, and more.
On your Tumblr dashboard today you can see how there are posts from blogs you follow, mixed with posts from tags you follow, mixed with blog recommendations. Each of those is a separate stream, with its own logic, but sharing this same framework. We inject those recommendations at certain intervals, filter posts based on who you’re blocking, and rank the posts for relevancy if you have “Best stuff first” enabled. Those are all examples of the functionality StreamBuilder affords for us.
So, what’s included in the box?
The full framework library of code that we use today, on Tumblr, to power almost every feed of content you see on the platform.
A YAML syntax for composing streams of content, and how to filter, inject, and rank them.
Abstractions for programmatically composing, filtering, ranking, injecting, and debugging streams.
Abstractions for composing streams together—such as with carousels, for streams-within-streams.
An abstraction for cursor-based pagination for complex stream templates.
Unit tests covering the public interface for the library and most of the underlying code.
What’s still to come
Documentation. We have a lot to migrate from our own internal tools and put in here!
More example stream templates and example implementations of different common streams.
If you have questions, please check out the code and file an issue there.

How to make Tattoos/Skin Textures for Final Fantasy 14
Hi there! I made a video about this a long time ago, essentially it is still the same work flow even though the Textools UI has changed a little bit with the Dawntrail update. Please mind that the video is a little old, recorded with a free software and I personally have zero editing skills. From experience and from what other creators told me it helped them a lot so I would like to bring it to more people and share my wisdom. This is a "beginners guide" for now, I can and will expand on it if necessary. You're always welcome to ask me questions. Join my discord or send me a dm! Let's start with what we need to make a tattoo/skin texture:
- Textools - Final Fantasy 14 with subscribtion - Substance Painter - Any Photo editor (Photopea is a free Photoshop online clone) - Not required but it could help: my videos
Step 1
Open your fbx in Substance Painter by clicking "Open" then "New" or Ctrl + N, with the following settings: PBR Metallic Roughness (Starter Assets) Resolution 2048 You can find the Bibo+, Gen3 and TBSE .fbx file here!
Step 2
Import your assets by dragging and dropping them into the Asset Library, then set them to "Texture" and import into your preferred Asset Library Category.
Step 3
Drawing: You can draw directly onto the 3D model and on the UV/2D planes. For that create a paint layer, select your brush, set your color in "base color". Assets: You can drag and drop your assets onto the 3D model, then select "Base color". This will project the asset in 3D. You can change the projection properties on the right under your layer selection or by right clicking in either of the windows. You can also create a "Paint Layer" and drag and drop the asset into the "Base color" slot. This will replace the fill color with the asset. Please make sure to make linework have a transparent background before using your assets.
Step 4
Whenever you're done arranging your tattoos/textures, it is time to export. Export with the following settings: - Output template: Document channels + Normal + AO (With Alpha) - Size: 2048 is more than enough for skin textures in FF14!! 4096 is almost overkill but will result in better quality, if you're a Mare user, please don't blast others with a 4k tattoo/skin texture unless it's really necessary - Padding: Dilation + Transparent
Step 5
Export the Skin Diffuse Material from Textools by selecting Character then choose your Characters race and gender. Midlanders share their skin material with Miqote and Elezen.
Step 6
Open a photo editor of your choice, open the skin Diffuse png and your Substance Painter Export. Adjust the layers if needeed so your tattoo/skin texture is above the skin texture. Export as png.
Step 7
Replace the Skin Diffuse png with the one you've just created, save to FFXIV to apply your changes to the game files and then launch the game to check the results!
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to DM me here or on discord @arimaemae

hi cat! 🩷 so as you know i really enjoy your ts2 posts and lately i've gotten the itch to play it again! but last time i played ts2 i played it with only a few crappy cc clothes lol, so i have no idea what mods are essential mods to have in ts2 or where to get them, how to prevent saves from getting corrupted and how to build your own custom hood - stuff like that. so i wondered if you have any advice or if you knew any guides on where to even get started on this? 😭 thank you 🩷🩷🩷
vilna hiiiiiii!! first of all i am so sorry that this took me so long to reply! i got ill and it hit me harder than it should rip 😭 anyways, thank you so much as always for your kind words, you know i love your stuff so it really is appreciated 💖
it’s a long write-up and i reference a lot of guides and resources from the community from which i learned myself. i’m really grateful to this community for sharing these resources, truly! i tried to organize this as best and include as much as i could, but i'm sure there may be missing things or things left unclear. so if you have any questions feel free to message me!
i. installation
i personally use the sims 2 rpc launcher by lazyduchess, which is included in osab’s installation guide. i really like this guide, since it includes links to the full sims 2 collection, as well as indications to make the game work more nicely with modern hardware and software, such as modern graphics cards through graphics rules makers or the 4gb patch.
it also includes instructions for reshade installation (i personally use the rpc injection method).
ii. setting up a clean slate
whether you want to play in a premade neighborhood or a custom neighborhood, i recommend using a clean slate, meaning empty and/or clean neighborhoods. many functions of the game use hoods, and sometimes these aren’t actual physical hoods and instead add sims as townies or npcs. there are also “clean” versions of premade neighborhoods that fix/tweak oversights by maxis.
mind that if you want a brand new hood without maxis’ townies, you need to get an empty pleasantview template (N001) in your game’s installation folder, or disable it somehow by changing its name. you can still play in pleasantview as it will be stored in your documents neighborhoods folder, and you can use clean versions for that. you also need to get empty stealth hoods.
this all may sound a bit complicated, but simgaroop made a wonderful write-up here for different user cases depending on what you’d like to do in your game. the mods linked here are a boon!
as for making a brand new empty hood, i love getting custom terrains (which are sc4 files originally made in simcity 4). some of my faves are made by @/nimitwinklesims, but i also like finding them at modthesims. you don't need to create each type of subhood, but i do have at least one of each in bloom valley. in bloom valley i have two downtowns (one is magic town from sims 1 originally converted to sims 2 by @/voleste. the other is @/kattaty's remake of downtown, which will be deleted and replaced with a downtown i'll make myself to be more consistent with my other subhoods. it is incredible, and i think i will use some of their lots in my new downtown because they are great), i have two shopping districts. one is strangetown because i love those premades and townies; i never have sims visit or form relationships with them though, it's just so i see them around. the other is oakburg which uses acorn bend as a base, it works more or less as an expansion to bloom valley and it's where i play more often than not these days. then i have the vacation hood makeovers by @/plumbtales. the university hood was made from scratch by me.
when you create your own hood, you will either have to set up your own townies from scratch or source them from community shared townie hoods. for making townies from scratch, i recommend @/simper-fi’s guide (also recommend getting the mods linked here before you make a hood).
for townie hoods shared by other simmers, i recommend those shared by @/mikexx2 (seriously, look at all those familiar faces that ended up as spouses for gen 1 in bloom valley) and @/marvelann’s sims made townies by @/letthemplaysimscc. i also use the bon voyage locals shared by @/plumbtales. i also make my own townies from time to time or use specific downloaded sims as townies.
iii. on corruption
here’s the good news: as it turns out, corruption really isn’t an issue. april black has made an excellent video on the matter of corruption; although it is long, i recommend anyone who plays ts2 to watch it, or at the very least the final timestamp. to know what to do and what not to do.
although corruption isn’t an issue, i still consider the suite of “anti corruption” mods to be essential in order to avoid overpopulation and overall weirdness.
iv. making the game look pretty
i have linked my eye and skin genetics over here
my supernatural skins default replacements: alien - witch - vampire - plantsim - werewolf - considering switching my vampire, zombie, and werewolf defaults to this
for hair, i only use 4t2 conversions. i just like the way they look. i use @/platinumaspiration’s 4t2 defaults collection, which is a boon. for custom hairstyles, i recommend going through @/4t2clay
for clothes, i recommend going through the sims 2 defaults database. i have also linked some favorite creators for male clothes here. note that they also have female clothes. other creators i enjoy: @/mdpthatsme @kaluxsims @/jacky93sims @/goatskickin
i have a lot of makeup and “skin details” in my folder, but i have always been fond of @/lilith-sims’ things
for build/buy, that’s more difficult to pinpoint, but i again recommend @/sims4t2bb for a conversion database, and also @/veranka-downloads’s plentiful 4t2 and 3t2 conversions. some creators that feature in my folder: @/i07jeuu @/linacheries @/nonsensical-pixels @/pforestsims @/tvickiesims
custom sliders in cas: @/simnopke’s sliders, @/memento-sims’ sliders
for the ui, i use the incredible @/greatcheesecakepersona’s clean ui; i also use the mods linked here (+ @/keoni-chan’s amazing talk to me icon to replace icons), particularly the one to remove the red border in pause mode since that won’t be removed in tab camera
speaking of camera, this is the camera mod i use
i regrettably don’t recall the exact lighting mod i use (looking at them, probably cinema secrets), but i know it is one shared by @/veronaquiltingbee
to beautify my neighbor, i consider these skylines by @/lowedeus to be essential (+ optimized textures by @/celestialspritz). additionally i use the rural charm terrain and roads default replacement by @/criquettewashere in addition to most if not all of their hood decorations. i also love 3t2 hood decor conversions!
another useful resource is the gos events
please note that a lot of these creators do multiple categories of cc, so recommendations for one category may overlap with another; i know that this is just scratching the surface but i hope it helps
v. gameplay mods
i use so many mods to overhaul the gameplay so there will be some omissions. i’ll do my best to provide the most important ones (ignoring the ones previously mentioned)
economy and careers: uni part-time jobs for teens - lower wages - no 20k simoleons handout - loan jar (afaik lamaresims is working on a version to enforce regular payments) - custom bills (750%) - expensive bills for apartments (300%) - private school bill fix (in moreawesomethanyou-al.zip; charges the household 200 simoleons each school day for a child in private school) - lamare’s job options mods - 50% job promotion chance - restricted job offers - work food delivery
food & eating: basically @/jacky93sims's whole library
lifespan & health: lifespan (modified as follows, baby to elder: 3 - 7 - 14 - 21 - 91 - 7-14; i will make the adult lifespan longer still given that i play very slowly, it works as young adult and adult stages, and as is i don’t see many sims of gen 1 living to meet their grandchildren) - more dangerous fires - frequent & faster disease processing
personality: 3t2 traits project and associated mods
relationships and woohoo: acr - romantic standards - reproductive capabilities configurer - pregnant sims wear any outfit
supernatural/occults: plantsims can change hairstyle - no more leafy hair - no more werewolf hair - child lycanthropy - werewolf fangs fix - werewolf transformation 3 nights a week + no personality change vampires can’t eat food - vampire motive decay during day based on aspiration + vampire hunger goes down at night & social/fun decay- hereditary supernaturalism
travel and community lots: visit other sims - community time (+ limeyyoshi’s fix, reuploaded bc i cannot find it)
university: semester changes - pets at university - maternity for young adults - maternity outfit fixed for young adults
misc: planting overhaul - monique’s hacked computer, which i use to give sims separate bank accounts, study skills and badges online, and so on (1 - 2 - 3 - 4) - townie apartment residents - community lot skilling - engagement and wedding ring for color traits - invisible medicine cabinet (so sims can brush teeth and wash face with any mirror) - shiftable everything - midgethetree’s mods - fix subhood selection - longer seasons (7 days)

How do you make UI recolors? I wanted to make my own but I don't know how to get started.
How to make your own UI recolours for The Sims 3
note:
this guide is for the Windows PC, Steam Version of The Sims 3, because that is what i have
dino_rex's thread:
this thread is what got me started
you can download the starter packs on the attached files of this post
i don't use this starter pack anymore because it's limited and didn't include what i wanted to change
i would recommend that you use the other options below...
start small first:
i wrote a similar post on creating custom loading screens here, so this post will be VERY similar to that!
please start with that tutorial first to get familiarized with the whole editing process, then move on...
now, to do it yourself:
first, navigate to where your TS3 game is installed:
Steam -- Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 3\
DVD 34 bit-- Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\
DVD 64 bit-- Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\
Origin 34 bit -- Program Files\Origin Games\The Sims 3\
Origin 64 bit-- Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 3\
// idk the path for non-Windows installations //
NOT THIS -- Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3
navigate to:
\GameData\Shared\Packages\
and the packages you are looking for are:
FullBuild0.package
DeltaBuild0.package
for BOTH packages, do this:
Open in S3PE
Resource
Select all
Export
To file...
Choose a folder to export to (An example: have a primary YourProjectName folder, with 2 folders within it: Originals and Edited. Within Originals is 2 folders: FullBuild and DeltaBuild)
Export the files to the appropriate folder
now that you've exported the Originals, time to make your edits:
Navigate to YourProjectName folder
COPY the original file that you want to edit (from the Originals folder)
Place it in the Edited folder
Edit these files with your preferred image editor
Open S3PE and have your File Explorer up
Select the images you've edited in your File Explorer (Ctrl+A to select all)
Drag to S3PE
Popup window: Import
Wait until it's complete
Hit X to close S3PE
Save? Yes.
Choose a name for your package
Save
Copy this package to your Mods folder
Start your game. Changes should appear.
Repeat until you are satisfied with your changes
my version
my 3 UI recolour projects (Sakura, Wisteria, Celeste) are based on this starter template repository on GitHub. don't use this template because it is stylized / customized for MY OWN three projects, and may NOT be what you want. however, you can copy the folder structure and look up what files to change for your own project (as inspiration).
i highly recommend that you use GitHub to BACKUP and TRACK your changes (or another version control software)
happy editing!

I want to publish a book someday, but I'm not sure where to start. What was your experience like publishing The Heart of the World? How did you format it for printing? Did you have to hire someone? How did you find a cover artist? Was it expensive?
I bought the hardcover as soon as I could. I love the story, and I loved the story in its fanfic form, too.
I hope one day to be as good of a writer as you.
(P.s. Have you considered selling signed copies?)
The Heart of the World by me (@janedoewrites)
Thank you, anon! Glad you like the book and the original fic! I always love to hear from people who've a) read it b) enjoyed it. Always nice to know it's not just me.
And I'm sure you'll get there if you're not there already. I didn't start out nearly as good as I am today, it just takes time and practice.
As for the publishing stuff most of this is discussed here.
Publishing, Was it Expensive, How You Do?
Self-publishing was very simple, stupid simple really. Hardest part is writing and editing and then, if you're trying to make decent money/a living, marketing which is the hardest of all.
Now for your questions.
There are word document templates you can use that have the specifications required for print books (both hard and soft). This is what I used for the print versions. For the electronic version I used software to render it as an e-pub and make sure the chapter titles and sections were all correct. This software is freely available and is easy to use/has tutorials.
I had friends help edit the book through various drafts and didn't have to hire anyone for editing. However, hiring a professional is absolutely something you could do, but I have no experience in how much that would cost.
I was lucky for cover artists in that @sunnyfish0-0, who is amazing and a great artist, volunteered because they were a fan of the fic series and were very excited about the story. They also wanted a chance to add something like this to their portfolio. They were very kind in that, so long as they retained copyright of the image (this is very normal/should be the case, as you as the author are then granted use of the image but don't own it) and were able to use it in their portfolio, I was not charged. I'm still so happy about it, because it turned out absolutely fantastic and really captured the vibe of the story.
If it hadn't been for that, I probably would have drawn the cover myself (and it wouldn't have been nearly as good and would likely have been quite different). To create the cover, there are specifications of the exact dimensions the cover requires based on the number of pages in the book/the paper being used/the size of the page. For Amazon, what I went through for hard printing, these dimensions and templates were provided to me.
There are also tools that can help you generate covers from stock images for free as well.
If you want to hire an artist, there are artists all around on tumblr who will do so for commission. See if they're accepting commissions, see what their pricing is, look at their style and see if it matches what you're looking for, then talk to them about the project. I've seen artists saying that sometimes they get manuscripts, sometimes they don't and are just told "vibes of the story/main trends/themes and things that are important to portray". Prices will vary based on the experience of the artist, the complication of the scene you're asking for, the size of the cover, cost of materials/software, and really depends on who you're looking for and what you're doing.
Might also be worth reaching out to friends and such/people excited in the project and see who is willing to help out with what and for what if any price.
So, for me, it was extremely inexpensive, the only thing publishing cost me was my free time (which I was spending writing anyway). Because I chose a route where printing is on demand, printing and shipping is slow but does get there eventually and it means I don't pay out of pocket to have 50 books I may or may not sell on hand. I also don't have to ship them myself which helps a lot.
Now, all this changes if you're getting published by a publishing company, in which they will likely handle the cover art and editing for you, but that's not something I have familiarity with.
Signed Copies
Alas, one of the downsides of not having print copies on hand is I don't have print copies on hand. I can get authors copies for the price of printing and then there comes the problem of shipping.
Shipping, especially for readers who span across the globe, is expensive even for something as relatively light as a small paperback/hardcover book.
And since it's not something I really want to offer to some versus others, and don't want to cut off at a few lucky people who get a signed copy, it's pretty much a "if you know who I am in the real world and can meet me in person with a book". I also don't want to offer signed copies only for exorbitant prices of "make up printing and shipping plz".
Maybe that will change someday, but for now, I sign only in spirit.
If it's any consolation, my handwriting's garbage.

What is CosmoLex?
CosmoLex is a cloud-based accounting software solution designed with professionals in mind, especially those in the legal industry, such as law firms and solo practitioners. With an all-in-one platform, CosmoLex combines essential accounting functions with specialized features that cater to the unique needs of legal professionals. Unlike traditional accounting software, CosmoLex streamlines financial management while also addressing compliance and trust accounting requirements.
With features that extend beyond basic bookkeeping, CosmoLex helps firms manage time tracking, billing, client management, and compliance, all in one integrated system. The software's easy-to-use interface and powerful functionality have made it a go-to solution for professionals looking for efficiency and accuracy in their financial operations.
Key Features of CosmoLex
1. Trust Accounting Compliance
One of CosmoLex’s standout features is its trust accounting capabilities, specifically designed to meet the strict regulations of the legal industry. Trust accounts require meticulous record-keeping to ensure that client funds are handled appropriately. CosmoLex automates the process of tracking client trust balances, generating trust account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with local bar association rules.
2. Integrated Time Tracking and Billing
CosmoLex combines time tracking and billing into one seamless process, making it easy for law firms to log billable hours and create invoices directly from the platform. This feature helps streamline the billing process, improves accuracy, and ensures that no billable time goes unaccounted for. Whether you need to track time spent on client meetings or specific case tasks, CosmoLex offers a user-friendly interface that simplifies time tracking and invoicing.
3. Comprehensive Financial Management
Beyond its specialized tools, CosmoLex provides full-service accounting capabilities, including accounts payable/receivable management, general ledger, and financial reporting. It allows businesses to manage their financial data accurately, create financial statements, and generate customizable reports that provide insights into their financial health.
4. Automated Bank Reconciliation
CosmoLex automates the process of bank reconciliation, which is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records. By connecting your bank accounting software, transactions are automatically imported, matched, and reconciled. This reduces the manual effort needed for reconciliation and minimizes the risk of human error.
5. Client and Matter Management

This helps legal professionals keep track of all case-related information in one place, ensuring that critical documents are easily accessible when needed.

This feature not only streamlines the billing process but also provides clients with convenient payment options, thereby improving cash flow for the business.

Compliance is also a key focus, especially for law firms that must adhere to various legal and financial regulations. The platform ensures that all data is protected and compliant with the necessary guidelines for trust accounting.
Benefits of Using CosmoLex
1. All-in-One Solution
One of the major advantages of CosmoLex is that it combines various essential tools into a single platform. This eliminates the need for separate software solutions for accounting, time tracking, billing, and client management, streamlining workflow and reducing administrative overhead.
2. Enhanced Efficiency
CosmoLex’s user-friendly design and automated features help businesses save time on routine tasks. The time tracking, billing, and reconciliation automation allow professionals to focus on their core activities rather than spend valuable time on manual bookkeeping.
3. Accurate and Transparent Reporting
With real-time financial reporting capabilities, CosmoLex helps businesses keep a clear picture of their financial status. Customized financial reports can be generated for better insights, aiding in more informed decision-making and strategic planning.
4. Improved Cash Flow
By enabling easy online payment processing and accurate invoicing, CosmoLex helps businesses improve their cash flow. Clients can pay invoices directly through integrated payment gateways, which helps speed up the collection process.
5. Legal-Specific Features
CosmoLex is specifically designed for legal professionals, so it includes features that cater to the needs of law firms that other generic accounting software might not offer. This includes trust accounting compliance, case management, and billing features tailored for legal services.
How Does CosmoLex Compare to Other Accounting Software?
1. CosmoLex vs. QuickBooks
QuickBooks is one of the most widely used accounting platforms for small to medium-sized businesses. While it offers strong accounting capabilities, it does not provide specialized features tailored for legal professionals, such as trust accounting compliance and integrated client matter management. CosmoLex excels in this area by combining industry-specific tools with general accounting features.
2. CosmoLex vs. Clio
Clio is a popular practice management software for law firms that includes billing, case management, and document storage. However, while Clio does provide some financial features, it lacks full-service accounting capabilities such as automated bank reconciliation and comprehensive financial reporting that CosmoLex offers. CosmoLex integrates these features into one platform, making it an all-in-one solution.
3. CosmoLex vs. Xero
Xero is a well-known accounting software designed for a broad range of businesses. While it offers great financial management tools, it lacks the legal-specific features that CosmoLex has, such as trust accounting compliance and client matter management. For law firms needing specialized accounting and practice management, CosmoLex is the more comprehensive option.
Pros and Cons of Using CosmoLex
Pros:
All-in-One Platform: Combines accounting, time tracking, and client management.
Trust Accounting Compliance: Ideal for law firms that need to manage client trust accounts.
User-Friendly Interface: Easy to navigate, even for those without an accounting background.
Seamless Integration: Works well with payment gateways and other third-party tools.
Automated Features: Time-saving automation for bank reconciliation, billing, and reporting.
Cons:
Cost: CosmoLex can be more expensive compared to simpler, non-specialized accounting software.
Learning Curve: While the interface is user-friendly, new users may still need time to familiarize themselves with all the features.
Not Ideal for Non-Legal Firms: The software is best suited for law firms and may not provide enough value for businesses in other industries.
Final Thoughts
CosmoLex has established itself as one of the best accounting software solutions for legal professionals due to its comprehensive, all-in-one approach. From trust accounting compliance to integrated time tracking and billing, CosmoLex provides the tools needed to manage the financial and operational aspects of a law firm effectively. While it may come at a higher cost compared to simpler accounting software, its specialized features and time-saving automation make it a worthwhile investment for law firms and professional service providers. By choosing CosmoLex, businesses can enhance efficiency, ensure compliance, and focus on delivering excellent services to their clients.

So! In light of google docs being revealed as a data farm for google’s AI, I promised my discord friends I’d report back to them on the software, Scrivener! I have too much to say even for Nitro to handle it and I figure some of my Tumblr peeps would also find this interesting so this is where it’s going.
Now, it’s a pretty hefty program in terms of functions and features but it includes a full, in depth tutorial. So rather than rehash all that, I’m gonna give you the broad strokes of what makes Scrivener better than other paid programs. (at least in my opinion)
It’s project based rather than document based.
"Dee,” I hear you ask, “what do you mean by project based?” You know how you normally have to make a folder for your project, then many separate documents within said folder for chapters, references, character profiles, world building, etc. that you have to open individually to work on?
Scrivener said “nah, we’re gonna do all that for you”. You can have multiple documents, character cards, research notes, whatever you want within a single open project window so you can freely click through them.
So instead of this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You get this!
Tumblr media
You can switch between documents in seconds and it also offers a side by side view so you can have your outline, a reference article, etc. visible while you’re writing.
Good Templates!
When opening a new project, you get this menu:
Tumblr media
Each category has multiple sub options (Fiction has novel, novel with parts and short story. Scriptwriting has drama, stage play, etc.) and what I love most about them is that they format everything for you to cater to that kind of project! You can also choose a blank template, play with the formatting until you’re happy with it, then save all those settings as a custom template.
The Compile Feature!!!
This is invaluable!!! Particularly if you’re writing original content and are looking into traditional or self publishing. Once you have your finished manuscript, the compile feature will format that shit FOR you! You make your save file selection (print, PDF, .html, .epub, etc), choose your final document format and what sections you want included/excluded in the final document.
Tumblr media
Click Compile and you’ll have a fully formatted final document ready for submission!
30 Day Free Trial
And I mean ACTUALLY free! They never ask for your card info, name, or even email address to download the trial version. You get 30 days to kick the tires, take it for a spin around the block, push all the buttons. If you do decide you love it and need it in your life, I have more good news for you!
NO SUBSCRIPTION BULLSHIT!!!!
It’s a one-time-purchase of $59.99 USD, you download the software and it’s yours! You own it! That’s it!
I can’t emphasize enough that I have just barely scratched the surface here. There’s so many features and tools to play with that I haven’t even explored myself yet. I absolutely love it, fuck google and if you’re interested in giving Scrivener a whirl, you can get the free trial here.

Large-Language Models and [Bleh]
I wanted to take a stab at understanding why LLMs have a tendency to output word soup. [Word Soup] is the creation of sentences, paragraphs, and entire articles as if the LLM was using [AutoComplete] like in your mobile device. As if it were playing [Let AutoComplete finish your sentence for you]. Like ppl on social media tend to play.
There's been analysis of the word output by authors, editors, and software developers that have suggested a few things. The first is that the LLMs tend to pull up a writer's template first. Something like [The Hero's Journey] or a [Style Guide] that gives a set of rules on how to write a professional looking and sounding document.
The output of the LLM matches about what you'd expect from a novice author or writer filling in those blanks. The idea is that; if the template says "You NEED to fill in these blanks." Then the LLM will fill in those blanks; even after it runs out of data doing so.
Essentially using [AutoComplete] rules after it runs out of information that matches. There's not something that says; "We can't fill in these blanks, we've run out of correlating data" it says "Go find the next set of closest correlating data to finish." Which might have a probability of like 10% of being correlated at all.
This mimics exactly what we'd expect from your typical search engine; which returns a list of data based on what the search engine expects the users are really trying to find. With the highest probability of being "correct" being at the top of the search results. At page 3+ being not as high as what was on the first page.
This is part of the reason why there's a skill-gap in how we think LLMs should work for your average user; and experienced individuals who know more accurately how the LLMs "think".
Because like a search engine; tailoring your search query will return results closer to what you're looking for in the case that it doesn't return what you were expecting at all.
This also means that Novices using an LLM should have an idea for what they're using it for. It can reliably return a website you're expecting; but if you're looking for a StackOverflow from several years ago (because every modern post is closed for being a [Duplicate Question] without referring to said duplicate) you need to know how to search approximate dates, expected key terms and hashtags.
I'd personally prefer something that returns a Wikipedia entry with further results to peruse. But I can see where there's demand for the "Give me what I want NOW." Veruca Salt type queries.
Honestly; Should the LLM return customized content as if it really did know everything? Because we tried that with Alexa "Here's what I found: [Thing tangentially related to the thing you asked about]."
I dunno.

Improve Cash Flow with These Prior Authorization Best Practices
Prior authorization (PA) is a necessary but often frustrating part of the healthcare revenue cycle management. When not managed effectively, it leads to claim denials, delayed payments, and frustrated staff—all of which disrupt your cash flow. However, by adopting a set of strategic best practices, healthcare providers can streamline prior authorization processes and significantly improve financial performance.
Here’s how to optimize your prior authorization services workflow and enhance your cash flow in the process.
1. Verify Insurance Coverage Early and Accurately
The first step to successful prior authorization is ensuring accurate patient insurance information. Verifying insurance eligibility and benefits at the time of appointment scheduling or check-in helps avoid unnecessary delays or denials.
Best Practice Tip: Use automated insurance verification tools to check coverage in real-time. Confirm whether prior authorization is needed for specific services or medications before the patient is seen.
2. Standardize Your Prior Authorization Process
Inconsistent workflows create confusion and errors. Standardizing your PA process across the practice ensures staff know exactly how to handle each request, improving accuracy and speed.
Best Practice Tip: Develop a step-by-step workflow that includes eligibility verification, documentation collection, submission protocols, follow-up schedules, and escalation procedures. Train your staff on this process regularly.
3. Use Technology to Automate Routine Tasks
Manual prior authorization is time-consuming and error-prone. Leveraging technology such as electronic prior authorization (ePA) platforms and practice management systems can drastically reduce administrative burdens and processing times.
Best Practice Tip: Invest in software that integrates with your EHR and allows automatic PA submission, real-time status tracking, and two-way communication with payers.
4. Create a Prior Authorization Checklist for Common Procedures
Some services and medications frequently require authorization. By maintaining a checklist of common procedures that need PA by payer, you can speed up the process and reduce guesswork.
Best Practice Tip: Regularly update your checklist based on payer policies and past denials. This helps front-office and billing staff know exactly what documentation is required for fast approval.
5. Stay Current with Payer Requirements
Payer guidelines frequently change, and failing to stay updated can result in denied authorizations. Each payer may have different forms, documentation rules, and submission timelines.
Best Practice Tip: Assign a team member or outsource to a service that monitors and updates payer-specific PA rules. Establish regular audits of payer policies to remain compliant and minimize rework.
6. Maintain Detailed Documentation
Incomplete or inaccurate documentation is a leading cause of prior authorization denials. Providing all necessary clinical justifications and supporting information upfront increases the chance of first-time approval.
Best Practice Tip: Include medical necessity documentation, diagnostic codes, provider notes, and previous treatment attempts. Having templates or documentation guides can help clinicians provide what's needed without extra effort.
7. Track Authorization Status Diligently
Once a PA is submitted, don’t assume it will be approved. Delays in follow-up can lead to missed approvals and delayed care, impacting both patient satisfaction and reimbursement timelines.
Best Practice Tip: Use a tracking system to monitor the status of each authorization. Set reminders for follow-ups and maintain logs of submission and payer response times to identify bottlenecks.
8. Train Staff Regularly
Staff turnover and changes in payer requirements mean that ongoing training is essential. Your front desk, billing team, and clinical staff should all understand the basics of prior authorization and their roles in the process.
Best Practice Tip: Offer quarterly training sessions and update team members on process improvements or payer changes. Use case studies from past denials to highlight learning opportunities.
9. Outsource When Necessary
Managing prior authorizations in-house can overwhelm staff, especially in busy practices. Outsourcing to a specialized prior authorization service can improve turnaround time, reduce errors, and free up your internal team.
Best Practice Tip: Choose a vendor with expertise in your specialty and experience with your major payers. Outsourcing not only speeds up approvals but also helps you focus more on revenue-generating activities.
10. Analyze Denials and Trends
Denial patterns provide insight into where your authorization process needs improvement. Reviewing denial data helps you adjust workflows, retrain staff, and avoid repeat issues.
Best Practice Tip: Run monthly reports on prior authorization-related denials. Look for patterns in payer type, services denied, documentation issues, or timing. Use this data to refine your process and increase approval rates.
Final Thoughts: Better Prior Authorization Means Better Cash Flow
Prior authorization doesn’t have to be a financial bottleneck. With the right strategy, tools, and training, healthcare providers can streamline this process, reduce denials, and accelerate payments. Every approval that goes through smoothly means fewer billing delays, fewer write-offs, and better patient satisfaction—all of which contribute to stronger cash flow.
By implementing these best practices, your organization will not only save time but also ensure that your revenue cycle flows smoothly from authorization to reimbursement. Whether you manage this internally or choose to partner with a prior authorization service provider, efficiency in this area can deliver significant ROI.

How Generative AI is Revolutionizing Financial Modeling in Investment Banking
Tumblr media
In the high-stakes world of investment banking, precision is everything. A single miscalculation in a financial model can mean the difference between a multi-million dollar deal and a missed opportunity. Traditionally, financial modeling has been a labor-intensive process, requiring hours — if not days — of number crunching, assumptions, and scenario building. But now, a new player is transforming the game: Generative AI.
From assisting with pitch books to creating entire financial models from scratch, generative AI tools are streamlining how analysts work, enabling faster, more accurate, and more strategic decision-making. This evolution isn’t just a passing trend — it’s the future of investment banking.
What is Generative AI?
Generative AI refers to AI models that can create content — be it text, images, code, or even spreadsheets — based on a given prompt or dataset. Tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Google's Gemini can generate narratives, financial summaries, and data-driven reports in seconds.
But what happens when you point this power at a balance sheet or a discounted cash flow model?
Well, you get financial modeling on steroids.
How Generative AI is Disrupting Financial Modeling
Let’s break it down: financial modeling in investment banking typically involves forecasting a company's future performance using tools like Excel, Python, or Power BI. It includes building profit-and-loss statements, cash flow projections, and valuation models using methods like DCF (Discounted Cash Flow) or LBO (Leveraged Buyout).
Enter generative AI — and suddenly, this entire process becomes faster and smarter. Here's how:
1. Automated Data Input and Cleansing
Generative AI can ingest raw financial data, clean it, and format it for use in a model. This saves analysts hours of manual work and reduces human error.
2. Scenario Generation
Instead of manually adjusting assumptions for different scenarios (best case, base case, worst case), AI can generate these simulations instantly — helping bankers explore risks and opportunities with ease.
3. Template Creation
AI tools can generate customizable templates for DCF, LBO, or merger models, drastically reducing the time analysts spend on structural formatting.
4. Narrative Writing
Whether it’s an executive summary or a pitch book, generative AI can draft professional-quality descriptions of a company’s financial health and investment potential, ready for client-facing documents.
5. Real-time Analysis
With AI integrated into financial software, investment bankers can receive real-time feedback on how market events impact their models, enabling quicker decision-making.
Real-World Example: Morgan Stanley & GPT-4
Morgan Stanley has been one of the early adopters of OpenAI's GPT models to streamline wealth management and internal documentation. According to a Financial Times report, the bank uses GPT-4 to empower its financial advisors with instant access to decades of research and client information — saving time and boosting productivity. Imagine the possibilities when this same technology is applied to core investment banking tasks.
Impact on Analyst Roles: From Grinders to Strategists
Let’s be honest: junior analysts in investment banking are known for their grueling hours, often spending late nights perfecting Excel models and PowerPoint slides. With generative AI taking over much of the grunt work, these roles are shifting.
Now, instead of being spreadsheet jockeys, analysts can focus on:
Interpreting AI-generated outputs
Identifying strategic insights for clients
Customizing AI-created models for niche industries
Collaborating more closely with senior bankers
This doesn't eliminate the need for human intelligence — it amplifies it.
The Human-AI Collaboration: A Winning Combo
While generative AI is powerful, it’s not infallible. Financial models often involve nuances, assumptions, and strategic inputs that AI alone can’t provide. That’s why the future lies in human-AI collaboration.
The most successful bankers will be those who can leverage AI tools while applying human judgment and contextual knowledge. Think of AI as a supercharged co-pilot, and the banker as the one navigating the flight path.
How You Can Prepare: Invest in the Right Skills
As generative AI becomes more embedded in investment banking workflows, professionals will need to upskill. It's no longer enough to just know how to build an Excel model — you’ll need to understand automation, data analytics, and AI integration as well.
If you're an aspiring investment banker or finance student, the best place to start is by enrolling in a cutting-edge investment banking course in Kolkata.
Why Choose an Investment Banking Course in Kolkata?
Kolkata is quickly rising as a knowledge hub for finance and analytics education. It offers the perfect mix of academic infrastructure, industry exposure, and affordability. A top-tier investment banking course in Kolkata can help you learn:
Advanced financial modeling and valuation techniques
Real-world deal analysis using AI tools
Excel automation and Power BI for finance
Integration of generative AI in investment banking workflows
Case studies from global M&A and IPO deals
Boston Institute of Analytics: Your Gateway to the Future of Finance
At the Boston Institute of Analytics, students in Kolkata are equipped with everything they need to thrive in this AI-augmented investment banking landscape. With a curriculum co-designed by industry experts, hands-on projects, and modules focused on the intersection of finance and AI, you’re not just learning — you’re preparing to lead.
Graduates from the BIA program often find roles at top firms, having gained the practical experience and tech fluency that employers now demand.
Challenges & Ethical Considerations
With great power comes great responsibility. As investment banks increasingly rely on generative AI for decision-making, they must address key concerns:
Bias in AI models: If trained on flawed data, generative AI could perpetuate biases.
Transparency: How do clients trust AI-driven models they can’t see inside?
Over-reliance: What if bankers lose core modeling skills because AI “does it all”?
These questions highlight the need for balanced adoption — combining the strengths of AI with the critical thinking and ethics of human professionals.
The Road Ahead: Evolving with the Industry
The integration of generative AI into financial modeling isn’t just a tech upgrade — it’s a paradigm shift. The future investment banker will need to be part strategist, part analyst, and part technologist.
By learning how to harness the power of AI tools today, you can set yourself apart in a field that’s becoming more competitive and tech-driven than ever.
Conclusion: Embrace the AI Evolution
Generative AI is rewriting the playbook of financial modeling in investment banking. It's accelerating workflows, enhancing accuracy, and enabling analysts to focus on what truly matters — strategy, insight, and client success.
But to ride this wave, you need the right training and mindset. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to pivot your career, enrolling in an investment banking course in Kolkata could be your smartest move.
