Hello! I'd love to see Benji with a human mate. I think he'd just be the most smitten guy around. I'd love to see a sweet moment of them together(I'll include a few and you can choose what you like best!)
-Snuggled up in front of a fire when it's snowing outside(They obviously wouldn't be in India for this but maybe a little vaca) blanket, hot coco and all that fun stuff.
-Benji coming home to find his mate fast asleep on a couch or bay window while reading(bonus points if she wears glasses and they're askew)
-Benji's mate getting to see his face for the first time after she's changed(she was born blind and while they're not sure if the venom will work(Carlisle did say that there are things even venom couldn't cure).
Please and thank you!! <3 <3
Benjamin visiting forks hic
you’d met Benjamin when the big fight went down in forks, you’d always been close to Carlisle ever since he’d helped you get over your thirst for human blood and you were so thankful to him that you’d instantly agreed to come when he needed your help.
You were just walking round the Terrance when you noticed small droplets of water floating around. You’d never seen anything like it so you decided to get closer and touch them. To your surprise they just bounced off your fingers and floated in the opposite direction. Your head flopped to the side in wonder, you chased them around and it almost resembled kitten chasing a ball of yarn. When you finally caught one in between your hands you suddenly felt it splash open, it certainly surprised you enough to let out a little shriek, causing a particular someone’s attention to fall upon you. It was Benjamin, he’d just introduced and showed Renesme a few tricks of his, one including water. He excused himself and made his way up onto the terrace. He instantly introduced himself and apologised for the water bubbles, he told you that he wasn’t used to such a moist and foggy environment so it was a little tricky to confine his power to just one area.
- Ever since then the two of you hit it off, always around each other.
- I’m convinced that he has lots of aunties and uncles that fuss over the two of you once they heard the news. The first time that you visit his home country everything was quite overwhelming, it was so busy and the temperatures were seriously something you had to get used to.
- Whenever you get too hot, Benjamin acts as a vampire fan, making small swirls or find float in your direction, or he manipulates the moisture to gently wet your hair to cool down.
- 1000% all of his aunties and uncles compliment him on his lovely find of a partner, they all ask when the two of you are getting married and that makes you blush a little.
- All in all Benjamin is a very soft and caring lover, he’s a good listener and always appreciates anything you do.
- the two of you travel around the world and of course that means different climates, so because Benjamin has his lovely gift, he uses it to make daily life more fun, when it’s cold, the two of you sit in the living room, snuggled up in blankets as he makes time sparks or fire float and dance around you, careful not to burn you. He uses the light of his fire to cast shadows onto the walls.
- his gift is definitely part of what you live about him and it brings you so much joy to see him use it every day. But all this wouldn’t be possible if he weren’t so playful and fun.
- Let’s just say it lien this. He’s perfect for you.

Offer is submitted
My realtor has warned me that there will be several other offers. Due to the uniqueness of the space, someone will likely swoop in with an all-cash offer that is way, way above asking. When I was selling Woodlawn, I got a lovely letter from the person I ended up selling it to as an accompaniment to her offer so I asked my realtor if that was a good idea. She said it always is, so I wrote it and sent it to BND who said it was very sentimental and as a guy, he would probably discard it. So I didn’t send it to my realtor.
She asked me about it again so I took another stab at it. It might be cheesy to some, but it is all true and comes from my heart. I have listened to my heart with every good decision I have ever made so I sent with the offer. I have to start trusting my own heart and my own instincts, and it gives him the opportunity to know who I am and why I want to buy it so much.
I’m truly at peace with whatever happens and frankly, to be in a position where I could even come close is something I am grateful for.
Hi Robert,
As you are making a decision on selling your beautiful home, I wanted to introduce myself and tell you what owning ###### Berry would mean to me. I’ve lived in San Francisco for 13 years and  work in Training and Development. Outside of work, I’m involved in a charity that helps senior dogs with second chances. I’m also a big marine biology nerd, the coast and marine life in the bay is one of the best parts of living here.
When I moved from Seattle to San Francisco for a job opportunity, I knew it was the right decision but I did not anticipate how much I would miss my hometown. Soon after the move, I made a friend who owned a condo just a few buildings down from yours. I’d hop off Caltrain after a long day at work, we’d make dinner and watch the seals play at sunset on the terrace overlooking the channel your same terrace overlooks. Looking back, the time spent on that terrace helped with my transition to a new city more than anything and remains one of my fondest and most important memories. Ever since then, the neighborhood has been a part of my daily life and living there has been a goal I have been steadily saving for and working on.
Your home is perfect for me. With two bedrooms, my friends and family could visit. I could run/walk on the path by the canal several times a week - with a dog! Being able to sea lions, have a little garden with a lemon tree and a hummingbird feeder is everything I’ve ever wanted in a home so when I saw the lemon tree on the deck next door and the hummingbird feeder left behind on the deck alongside the bedrooms, I fell in love. It’s a beautiful place that you’ve obviously cared for well.
I hope the details of my offer reflect how much I would truly love living there. Thank you for considering it. Happy new year and my best wishes for a lovely 2021.

ii. it feels so good to be so young and have this fun and be successful
The alarm on the nightstand let out its shrill buzz, unbothered by the fact that it was silenced four times before and its patron hadn’t moved from their bed. A pale hand snuck out from the white duvet and slapped the button before pushing the covers away. The mass of white-blonde hair hidden underneath groaned.
She uncovered her body and put her feet on the floor. Shoving her hair out of her face, she winced at the sun beaming through the sheer curtains on the terrace doors.
After a quick shower, one that left her smelling like honey and lavender and much more alert, she was ready to face the world. She looked for her robe but only found a white button-up shirt draped over the bedpost. She ignored the cold tiled floor and moved straight for the walk-in closet. Her Braavosi apartment was much smaller than her apartments in the palace at King’s Landing, but it was a kind of small she appreciated.
Despite the mess in the other room, she kept her closet and all other areas in her life organized. A habit from princess training. She found her favorite pair of distressed jeans and pulled a pair of ankle boots from their resting spot on the shelf.
“Dany?” a groggy voice called from the bedroom.
“In here.” she rifled through a drawer to find a shirt she wanted to wear.
“That shirt looks great on you.”
Her latest and longest conquest, Daario leaned against the doorway, his eyes raking over her with the same hunger as last night. She shrugged his shirt off her shoulders and tossed it at him so he had at least something covering him.
She met the heir to the Tyroshi tech company in a dive bar last summer during her stay in Slaver’s Bay. They spent her semester break holed up in an expensive hotel in Tolos, spoiling each other with extravagant gifts and room service. Now they lived in the same apartment building. Considering that their fling was nearing a year old, it was time to cut him loose.
But every time she entertained the thought of ending their arrangement, it left her with a hollow heart. She decided she was having too much fun to quit and allowed herself to continue. Everything was perfect, there was no need to change.
“Don’t look at me like that,” Dany warned.
A roguish smirk grew across his handsome face, “Like what?”
She pulled the black crop tee over her head.
“Last night was fantastic,” he complimented.
Last night. They had dinner at an upscale restaurant, then went dancing at the hottest, most elite club. Then they’d stumbled back to her apartment, unable to keep their hands off each other.
“Isn’t it always?” she brushed past him to get to the bathroom.
He chuckled and followed her, leaning against the doorway again as he watched her put makeup on with amused eyes.
“So it’s like that.”
She paused applying her face serum to look at him, “Like what?”
When he didn’t respond right away she returned to her routine.
“Dany,” he sighed, “We’ve been doing this for a year.”
“And it’s been great.”
“But don’t you think it’s time we made things official.”
She froze, mid mascara stroke, to consider his words. They had been together for a while and Dany had  finally graduated from University. Turning their regular meetups into something more serious was the obvious move. And Dany was scared of it.
“You know how I feel about that.”
“Yes, but we’ve already been together so long, what’s the harm? Aren’t you ready to take the next step?”
The next step involved him meeting her family and getting approval from Rhaegar for their relationship to continue under the public eye. Which meant Daario would have to come to Westeros with her. Which also meant more cameras and flashing lights and yelling reporters. They’d survived in Essos because there were fewer prying eyes, depending on where they were hiding out. But Westerosi gossipers would scrutinize their every move. To Dany, it wasn’t worth the hassle.
“I’m not.”
“Oh, come on.”
“It’s true.”
“What do you have to be so afraid of?”
“Daario, let’s say that we do want to continue this … whatever we have.” she went back to applying her mascara. “And we want to make it official. That would require a trip to Westeros, specifically King’s Landing. You’re used to the occasional paparazzi standing outside the building, but Westeros is ten times worse. Your picture will be plastered on every magazine cover from Dorne to Casterly Rock, they’ll rip you apart before you can get a word out of your mouth.”
“Dany…”
“Not to mention the fact that if we want to make this official, official, we’ll have to get a blessing from the crown. And while you do have money, you’re still Tyroshi. And since Rhaegar has to make decisions based on what’s best for his realm, and you already put a sour taste in the mouths of the citizens thanks to the tabloids, Rhaegar won’t hesitate to get rid of you.”
“Get rid of me? Dany, that's ridiculous.”
“It happened to the one before you and we didn’t even make it to Westeros.”
“You’re just being paranoid. My family has good diplomatic standing, your brother would be a fool to say no to us.”
She rubbed her lips together to properly smudge her lipstick.
“Make no mistake. My brother is many things but a fool is not one of them.”
She pecked Daario on the cheek before leaving the bedroom altogether.
“This is only the first time we’ve talked about it. Maybe breakfast would change your mind?”
“It’s nearly noon and buying me expensive food won’t change my mind. You’re not meeting my family. Good morning Jorah.”
Dany’s assigned guard was already sitting in the common room, reading the daily tabloids, his feet propped on the coffee table.
She subscribed to them purely out of spite. They were like the great Braavosi comedies of old, hilarious and bawdy. Especially with the rumors they liked to make up about the Westerosi royal in their midst.
“Good morning, Your Highness. Have any plans this morning?”
“I was supposed to meet with Missandei for brunch, but she caught an early flight home. Family emergency.”
Jorah hummed and turned the page. She saw a picture of her from last night. Daario’s arm around her shoulders and her lipstick smudged, party dress riding dangerous high on her thighs and the neckline-
“Oh dear. Rhaegar’s not going to like that,” Jorah commented.
The world stopped turning. The beautiful morning came to a screeching halt as she saw the inset and the headline.
In all of her time studying the history of the Targaryen Royal Family she’d never read anywhere about a princess suffering a nip slip. Dany was rarely embarrassed about these things, she’d spent time with the Dothraki, but her face burned and she felt nauseous. It was different when her boob was actually plastered across newstands.
Sure, she partied but she’d always been careful. She and Daario never walked home together from bars and Dany wasn’t hungover so she couldn’t have drunk enough to let the nipple escape her notice.
“Gods, I’m a dead woman.”
Daario came into the common room, fully dressed and saw Dany’s predicament.
“Nice,” he commented to the inset of her breast on the front page.
“No.” she slapped his shoulder. “Not nice. I’m screwed. Why didn’t you tell me my boob was out!”
“If I’m being honest, I don’t even remember how we got home.”
Dany sank into the couch and buried her head in her hands.
“The gossipers are already down there. A lot more than usual.”
“Your Highness, you told me to ‘fuck off and let you have fun’ so I did. Otherwise this could’ve been avoided.”
“Shut up,” she grumbled.
Daario chuckled and Dany cheeks took on a new kind of heat. Her racing heart and mind zeroing in on the one thing they could control. At least her boob would cover up the fact that she walked home with Daario. Gods, they’d been so careful not to let the world get a peak of them.
“What do you want me to do?” Daario asked, placing his hands on her shoulders.
“I want you to go back to your own apartment.”
“What?”
“I need to figure this out and I need you to not be here while I do it.”
“Dany, baby, I can help.”
“No, you can’t. Jorah…”
She heard the magazine in Jorah’s hands rustle, but all she saw was the Myrish carpet and the way her toes kneaded the plush weave.
“No need. I’m already leaving.”
She heard his heavy footsteps and the door to her apartment slamming. Then the one across the hall. Dany hated that she made him mad, but there was nothing else she could do. She didn’t need his lewd comments when it felt like her world was falling apart. He would be back around later, when he cooled off.
She wanted to scream. The urge built up in her throat and burned like authentic Dothraki liquor.
“What in the seven hells am I going to do?”
“I’m not your PR consultant but I think you should go out to your brunch and show them that you’re still well-put together. Remind them that you’re a princess, and a dragon.”
The last thing she wanted to do was show her face. She wanted to crawl back into her bed, put the covers over her head and ignore the present situation. But she was a dragon. When Aegon the Conqueror lost a battle, he didn’t retreat to Dragonstone and sulk, he got back on his horse and found a way. She was the blood of the dragon, nothing phased her.
“You’re right. I need to be a dragon. I’ll go out to brunch and then I’ll start with the damage control.”
“Maybe those should be the other way around,” Jorah suggested.
“I can eat and email at the same time. I’m a natural multi-tasker. What time do you think it is in King’s Landing?”
“Almost ten.”
Dany grabbed her purse and slipped on her boots. Leaving the apartment building was never a problem before but Sir Jorah had to stick closer than usual. She put on her sunglasses and smiled at the cameras, giving them a little wave. Their voices sounded like gibberish as she passed, the flashes only diffused by the early afternoon fog. Her favorite restaurant, The Foghouse, wasn’t too far from her apartment building.
Luckily, the restaurant was exclusive and as soon as Dany stepped through the doors she was ushered to her table on the patio that overlooked the harbor. Her usual sparkling water was waiting for her.
The waitress welcomed them in Braavosi and asked what they wanted to order. When Dany answered her with ‘the usual’, the waitress just stared at her. Dany gave her the famous, “Don’t ask me, just figure it out” look and she scurried off, fear in her eyes. She took a sip of her water in a small victory.
“Do you think it’s too early to start drinking?” Dany consulted Jorah as she looked over the wine menu.
Ser Jorah made a noise of distaste and she set the menu down.
She pulled out her phone, hunting through her contacts list for the one woman who could save her hide. Galazza Galare.
Although Galare was based out of Meereen, her career as a publicist reached further than Slaver’s Bay. She was behind the success of Dany’s last outreach trip to the area, making sure the right photos were published and bullying the publishers into only positive and glowing reviews. Of course, none of her services came free and Galazza never accepted cash if her customer had something better to offer. That was what got her a guest lecture at the University of Braavos, which gave her more interns and interest. She played the game better than Dany’s ancestors.
“Is Galazza there? It’s Daenerys,” Dany stated as soon as the dial tone ended.
The receptionist questioned her in bastard Valyrian, the growling tongue coarse against Dany’s ears. It took everything in her not to hang up.
“Targaryen. Tell her it’s an emergency and she’ll be well compensated,”
The receptionist put her through. When the other line picked up, an electronic dance beat played beneath Galazza’s greeting.
“Dany, darling, you’ve got to tell me how you do it?”
Galazza’s accented voice was almost a comfort. If there was anyone who could take care of the problem it was her.
“Don’t get me started Galazza. I just want the picture taken down. And an apology from that tabloid if you can get it.”
Fingers tapping on keys accompanied the music, “A formal statement from the publication, I can do. Getting that picture taken down when it’s already on the internet and a majority of the world has seen it will be near impossible, but I’ll see what I can do.”
“What if we did a press release and overshadowed this,” she offered, considering what Daario mentioned earlier about making their “thing” official.
It was tempting to hide away in Essos. To settle down in one of the Free Cities and start on her career as a civil rights attorney, maybe with Daario by her side. Ignoring her family drama was the most enticing part of it.  But did she like Daario enough to take the next step? Sure, they'd been messing around for a while and money wouldn't be an issue but Dany couldn't help thinking that the only reason they were still together was that they were comfortable. Or was she too afraid to admit that she was willing to settle down? No, she was a woman who knew what she wanted, and right then she wanted the embarrassing photo of her down. The other issue could be resolved later.
“I don’t think there’s a way to overshadow this, it’s huge. We haven’t seen a Targaryen nude since … never. Well, there was that scandal with Deria Martell’s nude portraits from the 1800s, but she isn’t a real Targaryen and I think they proved it wasn’t really her in the painting.”
“I just don’t want to deal with Rhaegar.”
Rhaegar took after their father when it came to protecting their reputation. And Aerys wasn’t all that concerned with it either until Viserys.
He was always causing trouble, Elia said it was because he was the middle child and was jealous of the attention Dany and Rhaegar received. Not to mention losing his mother at a very young age. Starting fights, shoplifting, partying, and bringing home unfavorable women. He lashed out at Dany whenever he saw her. Once he attacked her so viciously it left scars and Aerys had them separated. It wasn’t until the year before Dany finished secondary school that Viserys’ behavior became downright terrifying.
He was out late drinking in one of the seedy bars in Flea Bottom and the combination of drugs and alcohol drove him mad. He evaded his security officer and stole a car, driving it off the cliffs at the edge of the city. King Aerys raised the banners, but his body was never found.
“I understand, darling, but it may be out of my control this time. I’ll call you back when I figure something out,” Galazza affirmed.
“Thank you so much. What do I owe you?”
“I’ll get back to you on that.”
Galazza hung up as Dany’s food arrived. Chopped eggs with fiery peppers, bacon, and a light gravy with orange slices on the side. Instead of digging in right away, she pushed it around her plate. Her appetite stolen by the events of the morning. Galazza’s answer wasn’t enough to settle Dany anxiousness and she kept glancing at her phone, waiting for the palace to call.
When she finally decided to eat a bite it tasted like cardboard. Not even the fiery peppers woke up her senses. She sighed at it instead.
“Dany…” Sir Jorah prompted.
He never called her Your Highness when he consoled her. He knew that she needed a friend.
“Galazza said that it might be impossible to get the photos removed because they’ve been replicated and spread all over the internet,” she responded.
“I’m sure everything will be fine. Galazza works hard and you’re her best client. She’ll try everything she can.”
“But what if it’s not enough?”
“Then we hope Baelish can do damage control,” Jorah joked.
Dany ended up getting her eggs to go so she could mope in her apartment. She smiled at the paps as they passed, trying her best to act as though the world wasn’t crumbling around her. How many people had seen her tit today? How many times was the picture shared and reposted?
She changed into her comfy sweats and a baggy tee shirt, her favorite fuzzy socks on her feet. Dany balled up on the couch and stared at her phone on the coffee table, willing the screen to stay black.
Part of her wanted it to ring. Maybe she would get to talk to Elia instead of Rhaegar. Hearing her sister-in-law’s soothing Dornish voice would calm her and give her comfort.
Queen Rhaella died after giving birth to Dany, so Elia took it upon herself to fill the hole when she moved to court. Even though Elia was merely engaged to Rhaegar at the time. The two have been close ever since. Dany even stepped in on babysitter duty when Elia needed her to. Despite a whole army of nannies and governesses, Elia insisted on raising her children herself, even when her duties as Queen Matrimonial took precedence.
Dany couldn’t stand the waiting. Patience wasn’t one of her virtues. She busied herself in the kitchen, cleaning the dishes and rearranging everything. Ser Jorah came in to shoo her out because she was making too much noise. So she moved to the en suite bathroom and scrubbed down the tiles and organized her makeup. She made a point of watering the plants on the terrace even though they got plenty of water sitting outside. She also wanted to move the furniture around, but Ser Jorah stopped her from doing that too.
She made them lunch. Dany wasn’t a great cook, she was decent from a certain point of view, but as long as the dish was simple she could do it. And when they were done, she cleaned the kitchen again.
Instead of finding more useless tasks to busy herself with, she balled back up on the couch to stare at the phone screen again.
When the phone began vibrating, Dany didn’t believe it. But it wasn’t Elia’s personal number, just the palace’s secure line. She slid her finger across the screen with hesitation and turned it on speaker.
“Hello?”
“Dany…”
It was Rheagar. His voice sounded disappointed. She toyed with a fuzz on her sweatpants, feeling oddly vulnerable. The last thing she wanted was Rhaegar’s disapproval.
“I’m glad you called,” she offered.
“I think we’ve both been dreading this conversation.”
Since this morning, she thought.
“Dany, I think-”
“Rhaegar, I’m really sorry. I know I messed up, but I honestly didn’t know. I was too tipsy and should’ve left the back way but if I’m being honest I didn’t think there would be so many photographers.”
“Dany, I think it’s time you came home.”
“What?”
“Besides your behavior in Essos, Elia and I think it’s time you came home. Aegon and Rhaenys ask about you a lot. They miss you.”
“They do?”
She’d only been home for two days the last time. Hardly enough time for young children to enjoy their aunt. And they crowned Dany the fun aunt because she brought them candy and gifts from Essos.
“The annual charity gala is tomorrow and we want you there. I’ve arranged for a flight early tomorrow morning so you’ll be home in enough time. You’d better be on it.”
Dany didn’t respond. She didn’t know how. Something in her yearned for Westeros but another part of her dug its stubborn heels into the ground and refused. She didn’t belong in the spotlight. The events of last night proved that.
That was why they wanted her home. So they could control her movements.
Before Dany could come up with a wiseass remark, the line clicked. Rhaegar was gone. She had to pack, he wouldn’t appreciate it if she was late.

So this has taken a lot of thinking and I finally want to share my novel with the world of Tumblr!
Thanks to @rockmarina I grew some balls to do this. I’m about 7 chapters in right now, but with everything that’s been going on in my life, I lost all writing motivation so I’m hoping to share my work and getting constructive feedback from people I’ll actually get back into it?
Well, Let’s see how it goes.
Here’s the prologue and Chapter One, If people like it I’ll share more I guess?
(I made the cover myself too!)
Tumblr media
Prologue:
London, 1887.
The last of the carriages lined the dark, stoned streets. Small flickering candles shone through the narrow windows of terraced houses. The light patter of rain hitting the ground could be heard, and the taste of thunder lingered in the air. The lampposts were slowly being lit, emanating a low, dim light to the streets below allowing Shadows to creep from the cold, dark alleys concealing the secrets and terrors lurking within them.
Men, women and children returning from their poorly paid jobs and arriving home to almost no food. A young beggar girl was sitting alone on the street, her pale face caved in, her body thin with the hungry passing of days. Women were forced to sell their bodies just to get their next meal, never knowing the dangers they were in. Everyday, working class people suffered as the high class lived in luxury. Their tables filled with uneaten and wasted food, their wardrobes brimming with garments of the finest quality and their homes warm and comfortable. These dreadful people only cared for themselves, oblivious to the fight some people must endure daily…
Wiley Walker and Celia Roberts have never been like the rest of their kind. They would always spare a shilling or two, sometimes some bread and water, to the young beggar girl. The two were kind and had both aspired to make a difference in the world in their own ways. Celia was a strong woman with straight brown hair, soft eyes to match and piercing rose red lips, She believed that women were not objects or prizes to be claimed by man, that all women had a voice and needed to be heard. She wished deeply to become a respected businessman like her father, knowing that would take a lot of work, yet she was ready for it. Firstly, she wishes to start small and state her right to not marry, not wanting her life defined by any man, even if she could decide his identity.
Wiley was the opposite of Celia. He was a quiet and reserved boy with lengthy ginger hair tied back from his pale, freckled face. His emerald green eyes contrasted his image. They shone with confidence and even power when his demeanor suggested otherwise. He was quite reserved in the presence of his family, giving into every one of their demands to keep the peace and to divert all of their attention away from him.
Wiley and Celia, although polar opposites, were best friends and had been from the age of 4. They confided in eachother about all aspects of their life, even if doing so was dangerous… Wiley had a secret, a rather large secret that he could never tell his family or anybody close. Celia was aware of this, of his forbidden homosexuality. No longer punishable by death, Celia had thought much less of this than Wiley himself. He detested this part of himself, as many others would if they discovered it. He had managed to keep it concealed for years yet, the truth would soon come out as he is soon to be married…
Chapter One:
The Roberts’ manor was an old and run-down place. Vines and ivy covered the chipped grey bricks that were barely holding together. The dark winter sky gave the house an ominous look. The leafless trees seemed to curl around the building as if to scare off any passers-by. The dark bayed windows glowed with soft candlelight as dinner was being served inside. The interior of the home was much more cozy and comfortable than the exterior. The dining table was being filled with food as maids plumped the velvet seat cushions and the butler set down the silver.
Around the back of the house was a rather large garden, the brightly coloured flowers looked out of place against the deep green grass and cracked stone paving. Under a canopy, to escape the lightly falling rain, sat Celia and Wiley.
Celia’s soft brown hair blew in the wind as she tucked a stray piece behind her ear. “Stop worrying,” Wiley said with a small smile. His fingers found a small silver ring on his thumb and began turning it, “you will be fine.”
Celia didn’t reply. She continued to look out into the garden, her hazel eyes in a vacant stare. They both stayed silent, listening to the wind through the trees, wishing that they could stay like this forever. “You know what’s going to happen,” Celia breathed, as if she didn’t want to admit it to herself, even though she knew it was inevitable.
“Celia-” Before he could continue, Celia threw her head back and pulled out the loose bun at the top of her head, catching him off guard. She discarded the long red ribbon to the floor and ran her long fingers through her hair with a sigh. “Please, don’t say anything.” She sat forward, pushing her hair from her face. “I just want five moments peace before the chaos.”
Wiley bent down, plucking the ribbon from the floor and running it through his boney fingers. “Here, let me fix your hair.” he held out the ribbon in his hand and Celia smiled in response. “Fine,” she said before wiley had began to make his way over to her. “You always have been good at these things.” “Doing your hair?” “Making me feel better,” Celia muttered, earning a toothy grin from Wiley. “It will all be okay, you do know that, right?” “Wiles… They’re going to marry me off to some egotistical bigot with a big, fancy job. He’s going to expect me to have his children, I don’t want anybody’s children.” Celia’s face flushed with rage as she massaged her temples. Wiley brushed his fingers through Celia’s hair, tying it into a neat bun using her ribbon. A few stray strands poked out around her head that Wiley had tried to tuck in. “There.” He took a seat, crossing his legs and twirling his ring once again. “Do you remember Nicholas?”
Celia’s lip twitched before breaking into a large smile. “Gosh, that seems like so long ago,” she laughed. “We were both crazy about him, well, you were. I just wanted a friend.” “It was at least 5 years ago now. He went off to marry, didn’t he?” Celia leant back over again, turning a loose hair strand between her fingers, her previous smile fading. “That’s where everybody goes, Wiles. It’s where I’m going and it’s where you’ll be going when your family finds you a suitable woman.” “I reluctantly await the day a woman wants to marry me.” He fiddled with his fingers on his lap. “How about Douglas, remember him?” Wiley asked,Celia didn’t reply. She leant back in her chair, closing her eyes in thought. She knew it was a touchy topic for Wiley and didn’t want to encourage him to talk about it when she knew he didn’t want to. “Where did he go? After your father chased him out, I mean?” “I don’t know, that was the last I ever saw of him.” She replied quickly to move the topic on, sitting forward again and pinching the bridge of her nose. “I don’t want to get married, Wiles. I know that’s what’s going to happen today. They’ve been acting strange for weeks, I know they’ve found somebody for me.” A tear escaped her eye and Wiley quickly wiped it away with a handkerchief. “You don’t know that for sure. I hate seeing you like this, Ci-Ci.” “I’m going to miss this. Just us.” “You don’t have to miss it, you know you’ll see me again. Whatever happens at this dinner.” Wiley stood, taking the smaller trembling girl in his arms with a deep breath. Wiley caught sight of a small, middle-aged woman waiting in the doorway. She had large bags beneath her eyes and her hair was a curled mess around her head. Her uniform was crumpled and covered in stained patches. She didn’t speak until Wiley looked at her with a raised eyebrow. “Mr Wiley, Miss Celia. I apologize, I don’t mean to interrupt. Your parents require your presence in the dining room, your dinner is served.”
“Very well. Thank you, Sylvia,” Celia muttered. “Well, let’s go.”
They hastily entered the dining room and wordlessly took their seats at the polished table as the footmen served drinks. Both had tried to move unnoticed as their parents sat at the end of the table, yet they knew the silence wouldn’t last long. “What have you two been doing all day?” Ralph Walker, Wiley’s father, was the first to acknowledge them. He looked much older than he was, with deep sunken eyes and prominent cheekbones. He was a very pointed man with a small but rough beard on his pale chin. “We haven’t seen you both since we arrived.”
“Apologies, Father, we were in the gardens.” Wiley flushed slightly and started fiddling with the ring once again.
“I don’t know what you expected, Ralph. Those two have never been apart.” Oscar Roberts, Celia’s father, was a very short and plump man with a round face and a balding head. He had very nervous-looking, brown eyes and didn’t like to speak up in conversations. Ralph and Oscar had known eachother since they were children and, like Wiley and Celia, they were inseparable. They had even started a business, Roberts & Walker, sticking together even after marriage. Wiley silently wished for a bond with Celia as strong as their fathers’, yet he knew that couldn’t happen.
Just as the footmen came out of the kitchens once again with their food, Celia’s elder brother walked into the room with a girl on his arm.
“Ahh, here he is!” A large grin spread across Oscar’s face as Celia’s eyes narrowed and her lips pressed into a thin line. Wiley noticed the look on her face and gave a small smile of reassurance.  The two new arrivals took their seats at the long table, opposite from Wiley and Celia. Celia’s brother, Benjamin, was a very tall man for his age. His neatly kept brown hair was pulled out of his eyes smoothly and his face was clean-shaven. His wife, Eliza, was a petite woman with lots of tight blonde curls neatly sitting atop her head, tied together with a long pink ribbon. Celia had instantly disliked her from their first meeting. Her dresses were much too frilly and she wore too much makeup.
“Some whiskey, Benjamin?” “Of course, Father.” Benjamin gave a smile and a footman appeared to fill his glass quickly. Celia looked down into her drink, twirling it around the glass.
“And wine for the lady?” the footman asked. “I’m afraid I must decline,” Eliza answered quietly with a large smile on her red lips, “just water, please.” Oscar looked knowingly over to his son and Ralph smiled towards the couple.
“I’m assuming you have some news for us, dear?” Mrs Roberts asked cheerfully. “Ahh, yes.” Benjamin stood, catching the attention of Wiley and Celia. “I am very pleased to announce that we are expecting a baby.”
The table uproared with cheers and congratulations from both families. Celia had taken no happiness in the news, she sat quietly, twirling a strand of hair between her fingers.
“So, what are you hoping for?” Mrs. Walker asked happily.
“A boy, of course!” Benjamin bawled and Eliza rolled her eyes.
“I want a girl.” She smiled, taking a sip of her drink.
“Well, any names?” Mrs Roberts asked with a smile, “What will I be calling my future grandchild?”
“Well Mother, we were thinking Oscar for a boy,” Benjamin glanced over at his father who grinned, his large cheeks slightly flushed. “And maybe Alexandra for a girl.”
“Oh, beautiful!” Mrs Walker chucked. Mrs Roberts laughed along with her happily.
“Let us raise a toast.” Ralph stood, tapping his class with a spoon. “To the happy couple!”
“To the happy couple!” They all cheered in unison - Wiley and Celia much less enthusiastic as everybody else.
After everybody had calmed down, the conversation turned to Celia. “You’ve been quiet all evening.” Oscar eyed her harshly. “Any words of congratulations for your brother?”
Celia muttered a hum of reply before turning her attention to her food. She had completely removed herself from the conversation and soon it turned to the topic of marriage. She only began to tune in when Wiley was brought into it.
“Any ladies in your sights, Wiley?” Benjamin asked with a grin. Wiley’s face paled and his hands dropped to his lap. “Uh, a few, I suppose,” he responded carefully, trying to hide the obvious shake in his voice. “Too many to choose from?” Ralph joined the conversation with stern eyes before they almost instantly filled with amusement. “That’s my boy!”
“Well choose soon Wiley, dear. We expect many grandchildren,” his mother said sweetly. Wiley only smiled in reply, the kind of smile that only Celia could see straight through. He moved his hands from his lap and hesitantly picked up his cutlery, yet only managing to push  a small pile of vegetables on his plate. Celia repeated Wiley’s actions yet as she ate, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the dinner was going unnaturally well.
The conversation had fallen quite silent before Ralph broke it with a clink of a glass. He stood tall, pointing his chin in the air with his chest puffed out. “Now that we are all comfortable and have eaten, I, we,” He gestured to Oscar, “would like to reveal the real reason we held this dinner.” His eyes seemed to omit light as he spoke. “Our families have been joined since we were young. We have a bond much stronger than many, and so do our children.” Wiley gave a small smile to his father and Celia filled with dread. “We know you both are coming of age and that you have your own ideas of who to marry, but Oscar and I both agree that our families deserve a stronger bond. Our company would stay within the confines of us; and what better way to do this than to join our families through marriage?” Wiley and Celia’s faces drained. “Father—” “Celia,” Oscar cut her off with a grin, “Wiley is the man you shall marry.”
Without another word, Celia rushed out of the room, tears filling her eyes. Wiley wished he could follow her…
“What do you say, Wiley?” Ralph asked, his eyes lit as if staring directly into Wiley’s soul. He knew he couldn’t refuse, but he didn’t want to agree, so he just nodded, keeping his eyes locked on the floor. “May I—, can I—” He took a deep breath and stood from the table. “Allow me to talk to her,” he said, his voice shaking. “Sit, Wiley,” Ralph ordered. harshly Wiley instantly sat back down. “You can’t seriously be against this.”
Thump.
“You two make such a delightful couple.”
Thump.
“I was convinced you would like this idea.”
 Thump.
“She likes you, I’m sure of it.”
Wiley’s heart was pounding in his chest and he felt like the walls were closing in. His mouth went dry and it suddenly felt difficult to breathe. His legs had lost all feeling, as though he was turning to mush. He wanted to run, to escape this situation, but he knew he couldn’t. He couldn’t disappoint his father. But he also knew that he couldn’t marry Celia. He couldn’t be the one to ruin her life.

Chiang Mai – Thailand’s Culture Capital
Tumblr media
When we first started planning our honeymoon, the first thing we agreed on was that we wanted to meet elephants. We’d both had fantasies of seeing an elephant up close — and were pretty sure we would both burst into tears. It didn’t take much research to learn that the best place to do it was in Chiang Mai, the largest city in northern Thailand. We built our itinerary around having an ethical elephant experience, but in doing so, discovered our love for this incredible city.
Tumblr media
After a short flight from Phuket and a fifteen-minute cab ride, we arrived at the Anantara Chiang Mai Resort. The hotel, situated on the grounds of the former British consulate, is a stunning collision of architectural grandeur against the urban epicenter surrounding it. Upon checking in, we were greeted with butterfly pea juice, matching jasmine necklaces and a short neck-and-shoulder massage by their talented spa staff, a practice we pray will make its way over to America.
Tumblr media
Our room was a huge suite, decorated in minimalist bamboo with a giant terrace overlooking the garden.
Tumblr media
The first thing we did after dropping off our bags in the room was catch the afternoon high tea, a hat tip to their British origin. The tea and pastries were as delicious as they were beautiful, and it was the perfect way to decompress after our journey while still keeping a touch of elegance.
Tumblr media
We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering the grounds. Every detail of the hotel seemed to be chosen with precision -- from the lotus flowers floating in jars lining the riverwalk, to koi ponds filled with lily pads and meticulously manicured gardens.

While we could have easily spent our entire time inside the gates of the Anantara, its close proximity to the hub of nightlife in Chiang Mai made it especially appealing. The hotel is only steps from the famous Night Bazar, which stretches for blocks during the evening hours, seven nights a week. We picked up some Christmas presents, window-shopped and finally tasted the infamously smelly-but-delicious fruit, durien. For the record, I loved it. (Scott wasn’t such a huge fan.) For dinner, we walked to Ginger & Kafe, place I’d found online that specialized in Chiang Mai’s signature dish, khao soi, a spicy, rich stew that still has my mouth watering just thinking about it.
Tumblr media
After checking out the nightlife in Bangkok and Phuket, we were curious what the gay scene would be like in Chiang Mai. Spoiler alert: we were not disappointed! Just a block from the Night Bazar, Charoenprathet Road houses a stretch of gay bars and cabarets. We stumbled into Ram Bar, a whimsically festooned bar at the end of the street just in time for their 10 PM nightly drag show. What followed was honestly one of the best evenings of drag either of these two homosexuals have ever seen.
Tumblr media
The incredible dancing and performance level of these queens was staggering and the special effects — which included haze, bubbles and, I kid you not, one of the performers lighting her own hands on fire — had us howling to the point that we both lost our voices. Plus, Scott got dragged onstage for an impromptu dance!
Tumblr media
When researching places to meet elephants, we didn’t realize how much of a problem tourist operations are for these incredible animals. Thirty years ago, when Thailand outlawed the logging that had leveled more than half of its rainforests, thousands of elephants that had been used by the logging industry were out of work. Too traumatized — and too valuable — to return to the decimated forests, most of them were forced into the tourist trade. In zoos, circuses, and the illegal logging trade that still persisted, these elephants were torn from their herds, held in sub-standard conditions in crowded cities or tourist-heavy beach towns, and brutalized at the hands of humans. But thanks to the work of Elephant Nature Park, a rescue and rehabilitation center in northern Thailand, these incredible creatures are being given a new home. No rides, no abuse, no tricks to perform — just elephants living together in the forest, like they’re supposed to be.
Tumblr media
Our day was spent with eight other people, getting to meet two elephants — both sisters, aged twenty and three years old. Through the course of the day we got to feed them, go on a trek with them through the jungle, bathe them in the river and feed them their daily vitamins. It was truly one of the greatest moments in either of our lives, getting to see these beautiful creatures up close and in a sprawling jungle environment free of cages or chains. The Elephant Nature Park philosophy is to let the elephants do whatever they please, never forcing them into an activity. Rather, these creatures are very social and always seemed to enjoy the human interaction, especially the parts that involved ripe bananas.
Tumblr media
After taking the longest showers of our life (it’s impossible not to get muddy when playing with elephants), we checked out of the Anantara and headed over to the Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai.
Tumblr media
The Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai is, without question, one of the most incredible hotels in the world. Built by hundreds of traditional craftsmen in the style of a Lanna village, the Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai makes guests feel like they’ve taken a step through time, wandering the streets of an idyllic Northern Thai city.
Tumblr media
The villas — all large, luxurious and with individual architectural flourishes and floor plans — are secluded and peaceful, perfect for a romantic getaway. Our villa alone had to be ten times the size of our New York City apartment, complete with private pool and two stories of ultimate luxury.
Tumblr media
The grounds, which extend for more than sixty acres, are dotted with temples, ponds, multiple pools, and immaculate gardens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shortly after checking in, we attended a private cooking lesson with Chef Juno, one of the chefs at Le Grand Lanna, one of the many restaurants on site.
Tumblr media
Chef Juno guided us through a four course lunch menu of traditional Thai favorites. He was incredibly knowledgable and the perfect instructor. The food: unforgettable. We already have plans to recreate some of the dishes back home.
Tumblr media
The staff at the Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai made us feel so welcome and appreciated, from giving us a guided tour of the grounds to booking the perfect dinner table, with a prime seat to watch a traditional Thai dance performance in between courses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During our stay we kept checking joking that it honestly felt like we were living in a dream, which is exactly what the Dhara Dhevi strives for. The hotel is so large that at times it felt like we had the place to ourselves. We couldn’t recommend it more to couples looking for an ultra-luxury hotel with a romantic setting that transports you into another world.
Tumblr media
By the end of our honeymoon, we admit, we were pretty exhausted. Our two weeks were packed with such complete overload of the senses — from the pristine beaches that went on for miles, to the thumping music of Bangkok’s nightlife, to the most flavorful food we had ever tasted. We knew it would be hard to adjust back to normal life. But we find that our trip lives on, whether it be a funny anecdote that pops into our mind, or finding sand at the bottom of our suitcase and remembering the warm waters of Phang Nga Bay. We went off in search of a paradise, to find something untraditional and exotic, and Thailand delivered all that and more. As for being gay travelers? It went beyond feeling accepted. There is something every gay person feels in a new space – the feeling that you’re being clocked. In Thailand, no one ever batted an eye or looked twice as we held hands across a dinner table. It’s just not a part of Thai culture to judge. Now that we’re back in the states, the only thing to do now is plan our return.
