Chapter 3

♧︎︎︎ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐊𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦: 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈 ♧︎︎︎

One of the most anticipated days of the year came, it was finally time for the Magic Knights Entrance Examination, where aspiring young mages from all over the Clover Kingdom come to become Magic Knight.

The Common Realm was full of cheers and shouts, the young mages making their way towards the hall.

The Squad Captains were all gathered in the back, waiting for everything to settle down so that they can make their appearance.

Among them stood the princess in a beautiful beige gown with delicate embroidery of gold and white flowers with off-shoulder sleeves. She wore a cape that had the same patterns as those of Wizard King's. She wore the ornaments of the Houses as well, a Silva cross, a red lion necklace, a purple gem necklace, a blue rose brooch along with two other brooches.

Her cape was made of beige velvet and was floor-length, her appearance was screaming royalty.

The princess just like the Magic Emperor was very fond of magic.

She wasn't allowed to make an appearance until Captain William was escorting her,

Her curiosity getting the best of her caused her to peek from the back to see what was happening.

A sturdy boy with short height, ash-blonde hair, and green eyes was yelling and shouting as a flock of anti-birds surrounded him.

Anti-birds were birds that were attracted to less magic, the lesser the magic the more the birds, and vice versa.

That's interesting... She wondered,

Her gaze wandered off towards the guy standing next to the ash-blonde and found that contrary to the blondie there wasn't a single bird near him.

She was intrigued by it so much that she was almost about to fall from leaning too much.

The captains of the squads then decided to make an entrance and made way to their seats,

The anti-birds that were all over the place were now nowhere to be seen.

"Princess?" Asked Captain William and offered her, his arm.

She took it and they made their way towards the front.

Audible gasps were heard all across, this was the first time the princess had made an appearance in public.

The hall went silent as she cleared her throat,

"Welcome, to one and all present here, it delights me to see that there are so many young mages who want to serve the country. First of all, I would like to take a moment and appreciate all of you, this means a lot to all of us, to see that people care about the country.

"I am sure that every single one of you has high potential and has strived to become a magic knight but in case you don't get selected this year, don't give up, try again next year, keep trying and you will succeed and even if you aren't a magic knight, you can still serve the country by working as anything you want.

"In this exam, you are not judged based on where you come from but instead on how passionate and worthy you are, you are judged based on your will and your sincerity to protect the nation. Now I wish all of you the very best because after all, you all are the future and the hope of our kingdom. Captain Vengeance will take on from here." She concluded, stepping away,

The examinees erupted in cheers and were more confident now.

Along with the two boys who came from the village on the outskirts of the kingdom, they were thrilled to see that the princess was so supportive of all and not discriminatory.

The ash-blonde had a hint of admiration in his eyes, whereas the ravenette was curious about the princess as he saw the multiple patches and ornaments from different nobilities.

Captain Vengeance took the center and started to address the huge crowd.

"Attention examinees, thank you for waiting, I will be administering this year's exam." And opened his grimoire

"Magic tree's decent!" he said and his grimoire started glowing green and golden.

The sky darkened and huge roots descended from the sky and made magical broomsticks for the mages.

The princess sat on the edge of her, excited by the magic of the Golden Dawn's Captain, his magic never failed to impress her,

"You have waited long enough, the time has come to let the entrance exam begin!" he said

"In just a few moments, we will begin the first in the series of tests, the nine magic knights captain will be serving as the judges, and when the exam is complete we will choose the individuals we want on our squads if chosen you are in, if more than one squad chooses you, you will decide which one you want to choose. However, if you are not selected by any squad that means you have been deemed unqualified to join the magic knights"

"And now for your first test, you must use the brooms you are given to fly." He added

A magic broom test was the easiest, it was based on how much control one has over their magic and how can one concentrate it on an object and it was also the basic mode of transportation for mages.

Soon the first test began and everybody started to struggle with their brooms, some able to fly a bit and some just wobbling on theirs.

Y/n looked for the two boys from earlier and saw the ash-blonde one struggling with his broom, he wasn't able to make it fly,

As suspected, he has low mana but his determination is commendable, She thought

She then looked around for the other guy but he was nowhere to be seen.

Beside Fuegoleon, Leopold gasped, he was looking up the sky,

Y/n followed his gaze only to find the ravenette from earlier, gliding through the air on his broom just as easily as walking on the ground.

He radiates an intense amount of mana, just who he is..? She thought getting captivated by him.

It is time... She thought

Getting up from her place, she went near Captain Vengeance and told him that she was leaving,

He was the only one who knew what she was about to do.

Even though Y/n couldn't be in the squads, she still wanted to fight and test her magic to see how worthy she was.

So she had decided that she will take part in the one-on-one battle amongst the mages, which was also the last test of the exam.

The examinees however did not know about it and were oblivious to the fact that the princess was about to fight someone from amongst them.

Y/n had changed into much less formal attire and was wearing a brown robe on top, that hid her crests and face.

She was dressed up as a commoner who was about to take her exam.

She was standing amidst the crowd trying to get a closer look at the fight when she bumped into someone.

She waited for the impact but it never came, she looked up to see the black-haired guy from earlier, towering above her.

Her hood was not covering her face anymore which made her panic, but as she saw that he didn't seem to recognize her, she sighed in relief.

Nobody was able to recognize her, probably because of her outfit and because she was standing far up at that time.

He offered his hand to pick her up and she accepted, placing her hand delicately in his thick and calloused but surprisingly soft one.

His hand was warm against her cool one, which made her shudder. She studied him through her eyes that peeked through the hood.

He was handsome, that was for certain, his messy black hair sticking up, his delicate yet refined features making her more curious about him.

She would have concluded that he was a prince and one of much more power than her if not for his attire. It was not a formal one and much different from the people who came from the Common realm.

But that wasn't what she was staring at, her gaze was too busy fixed on the mesmerizingly beautiful golden gaze of his. They were guarded, and still had such an intensity that chilled her to the bone.

The crowd suddenly cheered, making her tear her gaze away from his, she looked at her hand and retracted it immediately.

She felt heat rush up to her cheeks, but she smiled at him nonetheless to be polite, before walking away but not before noticing someone approach him.

What just happened? She thought, the blush creeping its way back on her face.

Yuno never cared about anyone, he liked being alone and away from people,

He knew that he would get selected in at least one magic squad, he was also certain that his Rival and childhood friend will get selected too, but it would not be that easy.

As Yuno waited for someone to choose him as their opponent, someone bumped into him. His reflexes acting quickly and saving the person from falling by making a small tornado.

He was about to retort with some sassy comment when he looked at her, she was already looking at him.

He didn't know what to do, so he offered her his hand, which she took by delicately placing her soft hands on his.

Her hand was cool as compared to his warm one, he felt a shiver run up his spine which he shook off.

Her y/e/c eyes looking at him with such intensity that he felt pinned. She didn't seem to be moving too. She smelled like roses, much different than what he was used to.

The crowd behind them erupted in cheers making her withdraw her hand from his, she looked at him with a smile, a light pink hue dusted her cheeks, and thanked him, before turning away from him and going away.

What the hell just happened!? He thought before someone else stepped in his way.

Y/n was standing in front of the crowd watching the contenders spar, it was an extraordinary experience for her, to witness their powers up close rather than standing with the other nobles.

All of the people that had come here were amazing with their powers, they were strong too, this was going to be strong competition but it also means that there will be strong people in the squads.

She was personally rooting for the blonde and the black-haired guy, she had seen the blonde in action and it blew her mind away.

Yeah, he possessed almost zero mana but he was strong, his muscles were a force to be reckoned with. It was thrilling to watch him fight if you could call it that.

It had been more like just one hit because he won with just one hit, his grimoire was weird looking too.

She had heard about the five-leafed grimoire but couldn't remember what exactly it was, his sword was cool too, as he cut through the Bah-ha guy's spell.

Bah-ha had it coming for him, using someone to make himself look good is pathetic and not a quality that any magic knight should possess.

The blonde guy however looked determined and had his morals intact throughout the test, I just knew that he will get selected.

Father is going to be so happy!! She thought with a smile.

It had been quite a while and now she saw Salim Hapshass enter the battleground.

She had never liked him, she thought he was petty and a narcissist. He was the most discriminatory person she had ever seen, he always had his head way up in his as-

He was always picking fights with her and trying to get her to bow down to him and like him, his parents had even wanted them to be betrothed to each other but she had politely refused.

She remembered that she had almost laughed at their faces when they suggested that because it was seriously ridiculous.

She then turned around to see who his opponent was and saw the same ravenette again.

Oh, this will be amazing She thought, with an excited gleam in her eyes, which replicated her father's.

Kageyama never understood the hype about a guy's girlfriend wearing their jersey while they played, or that was until he saw you... His girlfriend, standing in the stalls cheering for him loudly wearing his jersey.

Kageyama rarely showed his emotions towards anything, he always kept them in control but when he saw you, cheering in the crowd for him as loud as you can and wearing his jersey, it made his heart do a flip.

It was as if his stomach had exploded with butterflies and he couldn't help but feel giddy.

He was flustered and touched by the gesture, you were wearing his jersey, not somebody else's, his.

He felt a smile creep up his face, and it was a genuine one, not the creepy one. He felt proud, and you in his jersey, for him meant that you supported him, that you were his and that he was yours.

No, it wasn't just his number 9, but it was his jersey, one of the two that he had gotten.

You looked beautiful in it, with your hair up in a ponytail and a few strands falling out of it, your face flushed, and that excited glint in your eyes as you watched him play.

His cheeks heated up as he thought more and more about it, he was desperately trying to hide the blush from his teammates because if they saw it, he would never hear the end of it.

"Go Kageyama!!!" He heard you yell and his eyes softened, he was happy that you were cheering for him with this much enthusiasm and it made him want to score every point and not lose any.

It was now that he understood that why people liked this so much, it was an intimate yet subtle sign of the relationship you both shared, a subtle indication that Kageyama Tobio was your boyfriend and you Y/f/n was his girlfriend.

The song shifted behind you again, this time playing softly as the background music behind as you both were wrapped in each other's embrace

"Dance with me?" He asked, his gaze pinning you in the spot.

You chuckled and shook your head, dismissing him and pulling away to walk inside but stopped short as he did not let go of your arm.

"Dance with me?" He asked you again, his golden eyes never leaving yours.

You shivered, not knowing if it was from the cold atmosphere or the intensity of his emotions.

You let out a little yelp as he pulled you flush against him, his forehead touching yours, his lips ghosting over yours.

The song played as you both gently waltz around the small balcony, with him leading you softly,

He gently dipped you, and then brought you up as the song grew to its crescendo.

He danced with you, through it all, his eyes never leaving yours, his wings creating a halo around you both as you danced carelessly along with the music, grinning at each other like lovesick fools.

The song ended and so did the dance, but you both did not let go.

You both looked at each other with admiration and adoration, his eyes falling to your lips now and then before finally leaning down and capturing your lips with his, his wings instantly wrapping themselves around you, providing you with warmth and a feeling of protection.

"I heard that she has spelled him, making him fall in love with her..."

"What a peasant, strutting around like she owns this, wonder how it happened"

You heard a lady say whole she eyed you, and that was it, the confidence that you had gathered to come here and surprise Will, crumbled down and a big lump built up in your throat,

You smiled politely, excusing yourself before running away and out of the ballroom which could be easily mistaken for a hell hole.

Tears escaped your eyes as you ran through the castle hallways with your gown gathered in your hands, you had put so much effort into looking your best and surprising your lover at his birthday party, you had specially asked Mimosa to tie your hair and asked Captain Charlotte to pick out a dress with you, but now it didn't matter because no matter how good you try to look, you will always be lower than them, never belong with them.

How can a noble love a peasant, and that too, a peasant like her? Her words kept on repeating in your head because after all, they were true, you were nothing more than a commoner from the Common Realm whereas he was a Noble and the Captain of The Golden Dawn at that... How can he love you?

You finally came to a stop after running a considerable distance, stopping in the hidden royal garden.

You inhaled deeply and relaxed as the fresh air soothed you, nature always seemed to do the trick for you and make you calm.

The garden looked particularly beautiful today, the moonlight was glistening on the surface of the leaves, twinkling fireflies dancing around the trees, the starry sky looked beautiful along with the full moon that glowed in between. The flowers gave off beautiful fragrances which mingled together most beautifully, the cool air from the wind only making it better.

You sighed as you walked towards the fountain that was in the center of the garden, the water sparkling as it moved around, it was a rather big fountain and had enough space to house several small koi fishes.

"You left early..."

You flinched at the sudden voice, before turning around to come face to face with William Vangeance.

"Will..." You said, looking down and not meeting your eyes with him.

You heard soft footsteps coming towards you, making you anxious.

He took a step forward and reached out, holding your cold and soft hands in his warm and calloused ones.

"You came to the ball... For me?" He asked you, his smile turning slightly cocky to hide his blush.

"I mean... It is your birthday..." You said shyly, looking everywhere but him, and trying to hide the heat rushing to your cheeks.

"I am honored.. And may I say that you look absolutely gorgeous in this gown." He complimented,

"Well, you are the only one who thinks that... Thanks..." You mumbled, looking down.

"Hey..." He said, gently removing his hand from your hand and placing it under your chin to lift your head up,

"They don't know what they're talking about..." He cooed

"No, they do. They know that I am just a peasant..." You said, tears forming in your eyes again,

"No, you are special and they don't know a thing about you..." He said, looking into your eyes.

"They know I am not a noble, what is left for them to know? And they are not wrong... I am nothing compared to you and I definitely am not someone who is at your level or worthy enough for you... At this point, I don't even know why you like me... " You say, gently removing your hand from his and tears dropping from your eyes as the words kept repeating themselves.

You sighed as you walked away from him, hugging your figure, and letting the tears fall.

"You wanna know why?" He said, making his way towards you,

"Maybe because, your smile, it sends shivers up my spine..." He said and took his mask off, making you cheerful becausevit meant that he was comfortable around you.

"Or because of your eyes, they feel like they are looking inside my soul and holding me captive..." He said taking steps forward...

"Or maybe your soul, it is so pure that it inspires me..." He said, taking yet another step and closing in.

Your breath hitched as you felt him beside you, looking at you with an intense gaze.

"Or maybe it is because our touch, it makes me feel like I am on fire..." He said as held your hand, and gently traced small circles on it,

You felt butterflies in your stomach and a blush creeped onto your face.

He turned you around and towards him, smiling at you and placing his hands on your waist,

Your heartbeat quickened as he leaned down, placing a soft kiss on your mouth, making you wrap your arms around him instinctively,

"Or maybe it's your kisses... I swear they keep getting sweeter..." He mumbled against your lips,

"You are so cheesy, William Vangeance," you muttered with a laugh.

"Well this is not even half of the cheesiness that you inspire in me..."

"Of course, what was I even thinking..."

"And for the record, I don't like you." He said, making your heart drop, and confusing you.

"What?" You asked,

"I am madly in love with you," he said with a smile,

The moment he said that, it felt like you were not filled with love and adoration but that you were love and adoration itself.

"And..." He said, pulling away from you and smiling as he reached into his coat pocket.

You looked confused, but gasped as he went down on one knee,

"Will..." You asked, your eyes wide with shock.

"Y/n... You are the most special person in my life and you hold the top place in my heart...

"Yes, the people say that you and I are no match but who cares about them they don't know what they're talking about, but I do...

"The bond that we share, it gets stronger with every passing second and I don't want to wait any longer... I want to tell everyone in this kingdom and the others, that you're mine..." He said,

Your heart skipped a beat and your eyes filled with tears but this time with joy.

"Now, I wanted to ask you at the ball but I think this is better, it's our place... Will you marry me?" He asked, holding up a beautiful ring that had thin flowers etched on it with a diamond, in a velvet box.

"Yes..." You whispered, your eyes never leaving his,

He grinned and stood up, smiling as he slipped the ring on your finger.

You couldn't care less about the ring as right now, he was the only thing that mattered.

"I love you William..." You whispered as he wrapped you in a hug before pressing his lips to yours,

Your hands wrapped around him instantly as you bith melted away into the starry night, in the middle of your secret place...

As he had guessed, you were fast asleep. Your breathing was slow and steady and he could hear the light thumps of your heart beating.

He admired you silently, thinking how he got so lucky to have a person like you in his arms and with him. He knew that you could have easily gotten any other person to be with you but you chose him. Why you chose him was beyond him but he was glad that you did, he was glad that you made him your first priority and was olanning to live upto it.

He wanted to give you all, all that you deserve. He wanted to make you happy, he wanted to see you smile and he wanted to be the reason you smiled. He wanted to bring you comfort in your nightmares, he wanted to make your dreams, a reality. He wanted to make your life as amazing as he could because you deserved it all.

He was happy to see you so calm and comfortable. He wanted to make you feel protected, he wanted to be better for you.

He had realized a few months ago that it was not the big and epic moments that led up to this, it was the smaller and gradual ones. Like the ones where you both spend your winter nights, cuddling together, keeping each other warm and safe. It was the lame inside jokes, it was the late night ice-cream runs. It was the stolen kisses, it was the unsaid promises... It was every moment that he spent with you.

He couldn't believe how much in love with you he was, it was unbelievable that the playful Kaminari Denki was hopelessly falling for a person. It was scary but beautiful and he wanted to see how it turned out.

Right now watching you sleep soundly, he couldn't help but wonder, how did he get this blessed? That didn't matter now though...
