I know Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop gives heavy lore drops with a big emphasis on Sig.

But, F y'all I never really cared all that much about the Crimson Demon storyline, and I wanna talk about Schezo.

(Disclaimer: I do care about Amitie, Sig, The Demon and everything in the Story, it's just the storyline itself I don't like.)

Shoutout to SEGA for allowing Schezo to do 3 things I didn't think he was allowed to do in SEGA era Puyo.

Be Smart

Man figured out the Entire plot of the Game in the 1st Act, No one told him any of this he just figured it out. I don't think anyone has been that close to the Answer unless they were straight up involved.

2. Minimize his Innuendos

Would you believe me if I said these are the only instances in the entire Game. He's in Arle's Story for all of the 2nd half and he only says one thing. Guess he really was improving since Tetris2.

Unless Schezo has just been Ringo in disguise or I miss something in Ecolo's lore, saying his name should not be possible. How did he do that?

Just Finished: Tetris 2

Well, I really wasn't expecting this! I've never played Tetris 2 before so I thought it would be the same game with some fancy artwork. But instead Nintendo brought a new different approach to the game adding "colors", 3/6 line rules and "bombs" to detonate. At first I wasn't getting into to it but as soon as I understood what I could do it became as addicting as the first title. Very clever, very good. Well Done!

The rest of the box

First pick-up? Technically?

So from the CameCube collection post you guys know my dad sent me a care package with all of the leftover gaming items from my youth and past decade. I revealed that the box contained my old black DOL-001 GameCube, along with Mario Golf Toadstool Tour, and Super Monkey Ball. Bringing the collection up to a respectable three games, for a cost of zero dollars, since, well, they were mine. They were just sort of... lost.

I wanted to do a separate post on the remainder of the box, mostly because the GameCube one was getting a bit long.

The first item not mentioned in the GameCube Collection post is my brother’s Platinum DOL-101. I was not expecting this to be in the box, but he said the only time he would ever play it is if he and I were together, which is seldom since he lives a 12 hour drive from me. So he sent it in the box along with mine.

It is not in terrible shape, couple scuffs, but overall, looks a good bit better than my black one. It is a DOL-101 though, so only one AV connector, no digital port.

The second item is something my parents bought for me, I believe it was Christmas of 1993. It was only $49.99 at the time, Nintendo attempting to refresh the momentum of the NES, even 2 years after the launch of the SNES. An NES-101 “top loader”.

Condition is ok, it is a little grubby, it was played, but not really maintained for the last 20 years or so. So will have to give it a good cleaning.

I remember we hooked it up for the first time, and were very pleased with how easy it was to get a game working. Simply pop in the cart, turn it on, and it worked. However, it had lines on the screen, now known as the “jail bars”. We thought something was wrong so we took it back to the store and exchanged it for another one. Of course, we found out quickly that there was nothing wrong with it, it just looked like that. Well, in my opinion there is something wrong, the video quality should never have been released like that. Nintendo knew this too, which is why, in my current research recently with all my interest in retro nintendo games, I discovered rumors that you could have called Nintendo at the time and complained about the video quality. They would have replaced the unit with one that had a multi out, like on the SNES. Model HVC-101. I have not been able to confirm this, again it is just rumors I’ve read. I only know for certain that the HVC-101 was the top loader Famicom model released in Japan. If there was a North American version that Nintendo provided to folks who complained, I can’t be sure. In any case, having a top loader is fun, so I am happy to have it in any case. Beggars can’t be choosers, this was free after all. Even though it was technically mine to begin with, my parents were just borrowing it for two decades. Ha!

In addition to the NES-101, there were a couple games for the NES they still had. Nothing rare or spectacular, the first is one that my parents actually played regularly up until just about a year or so ago. Tetris 2.

They would honestly wait for my brother and I to go to bed, and then play this game for a couple of hours. Multiple times a week. They loved it. So I left the NES-101, and the copy of Tetris 2 there for them to play for all these years.

There was an unlicensed game from American Video Entertainment called Tiles of Fate that was similar to MahJongg. We had gotten it for my mom, she loved MahJongg. Unfortunately this was too dis-similar for her taste and she didn’t play it much, but here it is anyway, right in this box.

The game is actually somewhat challenging, and doesn't suck at all. Can just be frustrating at times if you get stuck and that time just keeps running down.

A third game still was in the box, and if you read my NES Collection post, you know we had a second copy of NES Open Tournament Golf, I had the copy we bought after we thought we fried the one we bought new. After buying a second replacement copy used, we discovered the original one did still work. We used to play this when I would visit, so we had a copy at both of our houses. So much time spent playing that game with my dad. He sent that along as well.

That is almost all of it. I have an urge to see about getting the top loader modded for AV, or possibly HDMI. That would be a really nice addition to the collection, an NES that can play on any TV. Hmmmm.

The final little surprise that was in here was a disc only game, no case. I saw Super Monkey Ball was in the Platinum DOL-101, so when I opened the Monkey Ball case to put the game back in, expecting it to be empty, there was Metroid Prime staring at me. Again, not FZero GX, or Mario Kart, but I’ll take that nice little bonus. It does have a name written on it, right on the disc, in marker. AGH! But I can at least play the game, and another copy may come along, or an opportunity to pick up just the case for very cheap.

So here is everything in a group, not pictured are all of the RF switches and power adapters, as well as the two dog bone controllers the NES-101 came with. All of that was in the box of course, I just didn’t feel it necessary to photograph.

So, great “haul” if you want to call it that. Good stuff in good shape. Keeping me afloat while hunting is slow.

Speaking of hunting, I’m getting frustrated at the dry spell, still no finds or deals to date. Despite still hitting several yard sales and thrift stores. The best I found was a PS1 at one thrift store for $10.10. It was very yellowed, no controllers, no cables, nothing. If it was maybe $5 I would have bought it, but at $10 I just couldn't bring myself to do it on the off chance it didn’t work.

I have been absolutely scouring craigslist for yard sales, combing LetGo, and OfferUp for real deals. Still no deals. There have been a few people I have messaged, like Mario Kart Wii for $5 from a guy, but every time I ask where we can meet he goes silent. So doubt I’ll get that. Saw Viewtiful Joe on OfferUp as well for $5, the case had stickers on it so I offered $4 because I would need to replace the case. She agreed, but it was the day before she was leaving for a month. A month. She said it will have to be today. But I had plans that day and I could not squeeze the drive in. The time she could meet me, I couldn’t meet her. She said she’d message me in a month. We’ll see, that game isn’t super valuable, but $4 is a good deal on it. A friend says it is a fantastic game, so I do want to try it.

So a bunch of nothing at yard sales and missed opportunities on OfferUp and LetGo. We can only go up from here! Right?

whenever i decide i shouldnt use anymore money like 20 things that i wanna buy pop in my head -_- but i wont use money cause i should save that for when i go thrifting or to the record store obv. but now im thinking of tetris2+bombliss on the famicom and the original famicom tetris cause of its historical significance and then the famicom ports of donkey kong, jr, and 3 especially jr and 3 since ive never rly played those and 3 looks fuuuuun. UGH. well it doesnt matter im sure i can make some money in the future and use that. oh and christmas is coming so my relatives usually get me money lollll
