If you had to pick the top five episodes of supernatural what would you pick? I'm asking because I'm planning a binge party with my friends but I legit cannot decide

ohmygod ohmygod YES that sounds so fun!!! i have some amazing eps in mind, but idk if i can put them in a particular order of favorites, also just picking 5 from the whole series is HARD, especially because there's such a wide range of vibes in the eps. okay lemme think:

5x22 "Swan Song" - is this thee best spn ep of all time? with the narration, the montages - you decide.

5x08 "Changing Channels" - a full on crack episode that somehow manages to be crucial to the apocalypse plotline?? sign me tf up.

6x15 "The French Mistake" - this would make everyone's top 5 list i think, but that's because it's valid. imo you can't do a spn binge collection without this ep

11x04 "Baby" - a robbie thompson classic. another ep that's debated to be one of the best. yeah, the one from the car's perspective <3

10x05 "Fan Fiction" - i'm a fan of the meta episodes, but i know some aren't, so if you're not, def pick another one, buttttt it's a musical. about their lives. and they're watching it. it's awesome.

Honorable Mentions:

1x18 "Something Wicked" - listen this one is just special TO ME, it's the first time we see young sam and dean interact with john, and it's really just beautifully tragic that that's the case, but it's def a crucial ep in young dean studies.

4x01 "Lazarus Rising" - first time we see Cas is a MUST imo. plus, it's just an EPIC entrance for angels and a great season premiere.

4x21 "When the Levee Breaks" - if you want angsty, full-of-pain ep, this has to make your list. if you're aiming for lighthearted, funny eps, maybe not so much, but i'll list it because it's just that good

6x20 "The Man Who Would Be King" - an option for the cas girlies (gn). this is a great ep, and if you're a heller friend, you may choose to include this one from our fav angel's perspective.

12x11 "Regarding Dean" - a comfort ep of mine. if you're a deangirl like me, this one my be extra special to you too. it's got dean cuddling a bunny, adorable dean and rowena scenes, and ofc the mechanical bull, so it's a win.

13x06 "Tombstone" - a heller classic. deancas reunion, deancas in cowboy hats, dean being happy, cas meeting jack - it has everything, my beloved <3

13x16 "Scoobynatural" - it's a scooby-doo crossover. enough said.

15x18 "Despair" - destiel confession scene, but yeah. this one is pretty tense, obviously, so tread lightly.

so... for context, and s1 thoughts

i watched supernatural around the time it aired, when i was entirely too young to be watching supernatural. (i was like 10 some episodes scared the shit out of me) i think i only caught up to the live show around season 7 though because in the beginning i had to wait for the hun dub versions as i didn't speak a word of english

i'm a seasons 1-5 is spn truther, not that there aren't good episodes or stories later, but when i say i'm a fan of the show, i mean 1-5 minus the last 2-3 minutes of Swan Song, i think that makes a great and completed story. i watched up to 10x05 (I think, episode 200), which brought back a lot of nostalgia, made me feel warm and fuzzy and finally gave me a decent point of exit. i never actually finished the show so i don't know much about how it ended, and frankly don't really care about it either :D

the last time i rewatched the series was around 2019, when I introduced my partner to it. it was an influential show for me and i wanted to show it to him, and it was really exciting to see what he makes of it as a first time viewer. (for the record he loved it, but agreed that 5x22 is a great ending and wasn't interested in staying on as a viewer with so many other options out there)

i started this rewatch, because i got into phasmophobia recently (again? sorta), and the ghost stuff reminded me of supernatural

season one thoughts

(1x01 - Pilot) i kind of... forgot that it's supposed to be a surprise that Jess dies. now every time i watch this episode, i'll think of my partner's "oh shit i didn't expect that"

(1×05 - Bloody Mary) this episode has always been the scariest for me and i'd consistently skip it on repeat viewings. idk why, the concept of bloody mary just does it for me. interestingly, i didn't actually find it as scary as i always have before. maybe i became a little more tough when it comes to horror stuff // i think mobile tumblr fucked this paragraph up and idk how to fix it

(1x11 - Scarecrow) i LOVE scarecrow. it's just... an episode i've always enjoyed. Sam and Dean both wanting to call each other? Meg trying to distract Sam from connecting with Dean again? the PHONECALL?? i love this episode, it's a great one for both our main characters

(1x12 - Faith) so this is one of my most "fuck John Winchester" episodes. ffs man, your kid is dying. there is no excuse for this one

(1x16 - Shadow) i like that Sam doesn't fall for it AT ALL. he's immediately like "okay coincides don't happen to us who tf is this chick"

I’m sad

I have binge-watched the whole show this past month and all I cared about the finale was getting my jemma endgame.

I get Emma, and I think she was right about them needing to let themselves be with other people in order to learn how to function individually, but I can’t help feeling sad bc this is the last we’ve seen of them and they’re broken up and, most importantly, sad.

I gotta say, I love the idea of the twins going on a trip to Europe, the only thing that got me excited about their future plans

we should’ve known they were gonna butcher westallen’s kid storyline because of how they treated their wedding. the whole thing was a clusterfuck. they barely had any moments to themselves before the ceremony and then one lil moment after. i didn’t watch the other 3 episodes but i don’t think they shared any scenes until the LOT episode.

imagine your wedding gets crashed by n*z*s and you spend the whole fucking time catering to a white bitch only to have that same woman ruin your makeshift wedding. nobody even asked how tf she felt. like they really advertised the shit as westallen’s crossover only to treat them like chopped liver. like a damn afterthought like “this is what we have planned but throw westallen’s wedding in there since everyone is already together”. this iconic ass comic book couple got probably the worst wedding(s) in all of television.

cut to a new season and we got nora.. i don’t know who really looked at those scripts and said “damn y’all did THAT, let’s put this out there for millions to see”. i don’t know how they watched the episodes while editing and still decided it was good tv and that everyone needed to see it.

first of all, iris’ child would never hate her. barry or no barry. we’ve known iris for 5 years and NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, about her personality or character gives even a hint of bad mother. and all the extreme nora stans who fail to realize why iris fans wouldn’t care much for her, that’s why. nothing about that storyline made any damn sense.

the writers fucked up because they dropped nora on our doorstep (literally) and for 22 episodes we learned nothing about her. they advertised the season as being about family and i guess we didn’t realize that they meant star labs because we could take nora out and the story wouldn’t have changed much. barry and iris would’ve had more troubles and experience parenting by babysitting baby jenna, who’s been neglected, than they did with the nora. nora did absolutely nothing for them.

we barely got any interactions between barry, iris, and nora together. i was watching the ice skating scene from 5x12 and it was so glaring how they refused to give them scenes together. barry was with nora, he skates off and iris is with nora. nora skates off and barry is with iris. it’s always one parent with nora and barry’s scenes were usually about training her, not being a parent. iris was walking on eggshells, shuckin’ & jivin’ for nora’s love and attention.

we saw them together these times and most were like a minute long; lounge 5x01, team westallen 5x02, dinner plans 5x03, breakfast/chip reveal 5x04, scolding nora 5x05, iris nods at barry to take nora to the past 5x08, nora in med bay/taco dinner 5x11, scrabble/iris’ office 5x12, jitters/star labs 5x16, thawne’s plan 5x20, a few 5x21, dusted 5x22

half of those were just a moment in passing. they’ve had all of 4 bonding scenes with the 3 together. they didn’t start “parenting” nora until 5x21. that’s ridiculous. the season wrote itself and they still fucked up. i honestly don’t know what i was supposed to take away from this season. as an iris fan, there was nothing to like about nora’s behavior towards her. as a westallen fan, there was nothing to like about their interactions as parents and even worse as a couple.

i didnt mean to rant and i said i wasn’t going to during hiatus but i’m listening to a review of the season 4 crossover and got mad all over again about that trash wedding and that catapulted into me being mad about every fucking thing cuz this show does nothing right. they’re just lucky candice and gr*nt can do their jobs properly and kill their scenes because this shit is so bad.
