Thanks to @gobbogoo for the marvelous idea.

Since there is no sketch for this one (there is, but it was so empty it would be useless to show you), I give you instead a mid work version.

I think it turned out quite nice, but that's just my opinion.

Also for those who can't read cursive, it is written "La Capocomandante e il Consigliere" which is in Italian and means the commander-in-chief and the advisor (the Consigliere being the aide of the Big Boss, representing them in meetings, etc). The Consigliere, you will notice, has a very nice maroon striped crabbemarché suit.

A little headcanon I developed that at one point before scout (or in this case, Scratch) was born, his ma got kidnapped during Spy’s spy work (methinks before he joined in with the red n all that), and he came to her rescue, and that’s how they fell in love :3

I've seen a debate about if Scout would forgive Spy for leaving him and his mom, and both sides have really good points, and not that anyone asked but I'd like to put my thoughts out there

Scout would learn to forgive Spy because Scout's mom forgives him.

Firstly, though, Scout would definitely beat the ever loving shit out of Spy in front of God and everyone at the base, and to be honest, none of the other mercs would stop him. Spy wouldn't even fight back. He'd just take it. Honestly, Scout might even kill him, sending him through the respawn. Cursing him the entire time, literally ripping him to shreds verbally. Scout grabs him up by the neck and tells him in no uncertain terms that after Medic fixes his face, Scout will be dragging Spy to go and apologize to Scout's mom. Like he makes it crystal clear that if Spy's appology doesn't live up to Scout's standards, a lot worse than what just happened will follow.

So they go, and Scout begrudgingly holds himself back from any physical violence against Spy after he sees his moms face go sad after they explain the situation, only growling out an "apologize. now." Through gritted teeth, after it all. And he does, and it's a very good appology from a man who lives thinking he's never done anything wrong (other than, yk, leaving Scout and his mom, he knows how wrong that is)

But Scout's mom just smiles and hugs Spy. Forgiving him for what he did, not fully by any means, but enough to give herself closure and for her to be able to let go of the hurt and anger she held towards Spy.

And sure, does Scout immediately welcome Spy with open arms and immediately have some father-son bonding moment? No. But seeing how much lighter his mom becomes once she can be at piece with the past and move on from the pain makes him realize he wants to be like that too.

So, to be real, Scout wouldn't immediately forgive Spy, but he would eventually, they just can't have the father-son dynamic that both of them always wanted, but they can mange to find a way to understand and care for each other.

Also, Scout's mom, after forgiving Spy, may or may not have sucker punched him so hard he fell on the floor, clasping her hands together with a soft smile and sence of proudness, then asking Spy and Scout if they want to stay and have lunch before they go back to the base.

Now that I think about it, I've never seen Momma Scout as a scout. Here is a flat color reduced + full piece + headshots.

Freckled Jem. Also I am 100% sure his mama has those stupidly big teeth as well. I also headcanon she's first-gen french immigrant so Scout speaks French from both sides.
