From this we can extrapolate that while Mu Qing helped with the outer clothes, Feng Xin helped him put on his underwear.

As for why they talk as if they are in a relationship and Xie Lian is Feng Xin's future wife, I have no clue. They seem to be very good friends

rereading tgcf volume 1 right now and on the one hand it's SO funny - nan feng and fu yao are tearing into each other and xie lian, knowing full well who they both are, looks them in the eyes and says, "you guys are being SO disgraceful rn fr. on the other hand though it makes me want to cry real tears because this is their highness! They're getting to spend time with him for the first time in 800 years! They can't bear to face him after everything that's happened between them, but they can't bear to lose him after just meeting him again! I need to share the experience I had reading the climax of tgcf because FUCK. I was listening to this song somewhat untintentionally during Xie Lian's fight with Jun Wu. The song ended right as Hua Cheng faded away and. Oh my God. It was serendipitous. I fucking cried. Literally the most magical experience I've had listening to music while reading. Nothing will top it fr. Two months later and whenever this song comes on I'm a fucking mess on my kitchen floor. And I need to share this. That is all thank you

reading book one of tgcf with spoilers is honestly so great since almost all the characters are going double agent fr. Fu Yao and Nan Feng's relationship and interactions with Xie Lian are even funnier.

Like:

Xie Lian: Stop fighting!! What would your generals think?

Fu Yao (secretly, Mu Qing, the general in question): ...

Nan Feng (secretly, Feng Xin, the general in question): ...

Fu Yao and Nan Feng: begrudgingly stop fighting to not blow their covers

On top of that their past lives with Xie Lian put more of their interactions with Xie Lian and San Lang in context

Fu Yao's disdain cause he was his servant, and his big reaction to being tossed a broom

Nan Feng not allowing Xie Lian to eat Floor Bun (despite Xie Lian eating worse in his lifetime) and his reaction to San Lang being both self preservation and protective of Xie Lian because he was Xie Lian's bodyguard and still strongly cares for his well-being

Top 5 characters:

Xie Lian - someone with terrible luck who deserves SO much better and ended up gaining the best, he hasn't let his negative experiences turn him into someone bad but instead puts out as much kindness into the world as he can :") an icon fr

Hua Cheng - someone with the best luck but terrible circumstances and did things completely unconventionally - particularly towards the end (SPOILERS) when there's a reveal about what he was offered, that truly cemented him as my favourite character

Shi Qingxuan - genderfluid ICON ugh they have a very similar personality to myself and I adore SQX so much - I love them for their potential and wish we got more about them, their story is definitely not finished

Quan Yizhen - he has many braincells but the most important one is Shizun-shaped and it's the one he uses most frequently - fluffy prince I love him so much

Mu Qing - there's just something special about him that I really love. I did get quite annoyed with him at one point in the story but it's because he did something that he redeemed himself for later - he really gained his place back in my heart after that :")

Hualian confession scene!!!!! I LOVE hualian so much 😭

Quan Yizhen waking up, not questioning Xie Lian and throwing a whole bed at Pei Ming

Quan Yizhen later leaving gold bars for Xie Lian, sneaking them in and generally being a wholesome menace (I LOVE qyz)

Hua Cheng creating E-Ming and the events surrounding this (one of the main reasons why I admire HC so much)

oh god my top 10 okay- I don't really have a ranking for them, so their numbers don't really mean I like the character above more per say

kirishima ejirou from mha: I watched mha from middle school to like halfway through my sophomore year, and I've adored kirishima since even tho I don't keep up with mha anymore. I just love him so much, he's so kind and strong because that's what he wants to be and he tries really had to achieve it. if I existed in the mha I would love to be his friend!

sherlock holmes from mtp: I think this adaptation of sherlock holmes is hands-down the best one. He's a brat, he's sweet, he's aloof, he's cunning, he's such a fun character! you can't help but like him despite his many flaws. he really grew on me the first time I watched mtp; I'd only been exposed to a tiny bit of bbc's sherlock holmes and a vague remembrance of the source character, so I wasn't expecting to like him that much, but oh boy I stood corrected! he's tied with another character as my fav mtp character

william jame moriarty from mtp: this is who sherlock is tied with as my fav mtp character btw. I love how much depth he has, and how underneath all his layers of masks and a dark past, he's a guy with a heart so big it hurts him. he's amazing!

crowley from good omens: I love a demon who's kind what more can I say?

aziraphale from good omens: I love an angel who's a bastard what more can I say? (okay fr tho I just adore aziraphale and crowley sm, I just love how they fall in love with the earth and then each other it's so nice to read and watch)

ITS A HARD QUESTION i literally love all the characters so much fuck so to pick top 5 feels like a punishment fjfkssk

1. Mu Qing : cause duh he's best boy. plus i relate to him in alot of way. ive done many things in past that he also did in the novel that make me feel less shitty about myself. both of us tend to come off people who only think about themselves, so it was nice to finally resonate with someone.

2. Xie Lian : i like how realistic he is and how he was portrayed in all the glory and in all the bad stuff. something about him is so insanely human that it doesn't feel like im reading a fictional character. especially in book 4 with everything that was happening it felt good to see a character break apart in all the ways possible and hit rock bottom. (plus both of us are shit cooks meant to be fr)

3. Hua Cheng : he's a bastard. so am i. we will get along. Also i really like that he didn't become a blind dog after xie lian, during the time they were apart hua cheng grew as his own person and found new perspectives.

4. Yin Yu : i just desperately want him as my best friend he's literally so cool and calm most of the time (ahem, leaving behind that one go die scene but it's fair) imagine being able to work in the paradise manor with him ahhhhhhhh

5. He Xuan : i really don't have any big words to say for him and except he gets to live in the ocean and has skeleton fished as pets that's enough to make anyone cool in my eyes. also he's such a mood, my man is trying to stay out of trouble and just eat but here comes his butterfly bff crying about his crush.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS : SHIN QINGXUAN, FENG XIN, PEI MING, LENG WIN, LORD RAIN MASTER, QI RONG, I LOVE THEM ALOT SOBS
