Moving to a text post because it's more comfortable. But hold on...

I mean no offense, but no one needs permission or guidelines (especially from another fan) for how they're "allowed" to enjoy AA and to get berated for "not understanding the character" when they understand him perfectly fine. Just differently.

Is it truly that hard to fathom that some people enjoy the actual character and the dynamic that happens between him and Tav/Durge and not (just) the sexy stuff?

Is it truly that hard to imagine that there are people who enjoy AA outside of the (very mild) sexual content?

Do you only see the ascended ending as some sexy fantasy with nothing else to offer?

Larian themselves did not call it his "bad" ending. The only person who said that was a certain cowriter. Said cowriter was not saying it in an official capacity and was sharing their opinions.

Want to know something? The spawn ending felt more like failing him to me. And that's simply just how it felt. Can't change that as there's no reason to.

Anyone can claim how Tav is "supposed" to feel during a certain scene or event. Even some one shiny and "official". But that does not make it canon information if it isn't actually stated in the game. It really doesn't mean anything in relation to roleplay, except that it's just one way out of many to interpret that game event.

No writer, cowriter, or fellow fan can actually tell someone how that person's Tav feels because only that person can say. That's what roleplaying is.

Regardless of the co-writer's intentions for a specific message or agenda in the story, unfortunately, due to the nature of the game and individual experience, every person is going to interpret the same information differently. As they are supposed to. That's the point of the game.

Yes, there are people who ascend him just because it's sexy. I have seen people admit things, like how they'd never ascend him or could never do "that" to him for roleplay, but they still ascend him just to see the romance scene. I've seen people admit they'd never ascend him for roleplay reasons or dislike AA overall, but are glad to find clips of the romance scene online so they can still enjoy it. Honestly if that's how they enjoy the character and game, that's their choice.

But the people who usually do that are not the people who call themselves AA fans. Because the people who do that don't typically enjoy that version of him, only parts of it. And that's fine! But you cannot lump us all together.

I don't know a single AA fan who prefers the ending SOLELY for the sexual content or the "sexy Vampire" fantasy. I don't know a single AA fan's Tav who ascended him solely because they wanted to be with the "sexy vampire". There's always a roleplay reason well beyond that. Unfortunately, no matter what any cowriter says, personal interpretation and roleplay comes first, thanks to the nature of this game.

And, while I appreciate the way you and the cowriter and many others interpret his story, I cannot and do not interpret it that way, based on my own trauma experiences, my own biases, my own individual understanding, AND my own desire for the kind of narrative I want to tell. And that isn't just me. That goes for every single person as an individual who plays the game.

Like it or not, this is a roleplaying game. Heavy on the roleplay. With this game specifically, the individual player's interpretation of canon information comes first before any writer's intent. That does not render the cowriter's agenda null and void, as many people (like yourself) see it the same way, but it does mean that there is more than one way to interpret this story, and ignoring or berating others for simply connecting to his story in a different way, saying it's "provocative and untrue", is quite honestly inconsiderate and condescending. And wrong.

Yes, posting anything to the internet is going to warrant a response from people who disagree. Everyone who posts anything online knows that. However, there's zero reason to actively be the one saying the negative things. Especially when it's about something innocent and fun.

Alright, so I've compiled a list of manga series (struggling to think of a movie that can be described as Murcielagoesque that isn't already popular with people who seek out that stuff). As a preamble, I want to mention that a lot of these series are messy (if not, are only about average) for reasons independent of their messed up girltagonist(s). Regardless, I find the main female characters of the series I will be listing below either compellingly written, or at least interesting to follow. You can find a synopsis of all of these series via a quick google search, but I'm going to be including content warnings and some minor notes so you get a sense of the atmosphere.

Bota Bota - the story of a 29-year-old woman's quest to have sex for the first time while managing a condition that gives her violent nosebleeds whenever she touches something 'unclean'. She's also goated with the sauce.

Aku no Hana - Most people have already read this already, but if you haven't, what are you doing? CW for SA. Also, Chi no Wadachi and Avant-garde Yumeko are from the same mangaka and have strange female characters. The former of the two is a harrowing and very personal tale of child abuse however, so the female character's behaviour is more grounded as opposed to a spectacle.

Gunjou by Nakamura Ching- Thelma and Louise but in sub optimal circumstance. CW for lesbophobia, physical abuse, emotional abuse, child abuse (discussed not shown), general misery (I love this series lol)

Onani Master Kurosawa - This was one of my favourite manga series when I was in high school. While the male protagonist is the centre of the story, the female protagonist is the emotional core. And the patron saint of mentally busted girls everywhere. CW for SA (fantasized about, not actualized), bullying, blackmail, self harm and suicide attempts

Welcome to the NHK - If you only watched the anime (or even just read the light novel), for the love of God read the manga. They do Misaki so much better here. True Cluster B girl representation in media. I would have loved to see this particular iteration of the story get an adaptation.

Aspergirl - Has it really been that long since I last talked about this series? I love it. It's about a traumatized but quirky autistic girl and a shut in writer she takes up residence with. It's not dark like some the other series on this list, but the writer is very unflinching with how he depicts his subject matter. CW for discussion of emotional and physical abuse, animal abuse (it's only once) and self harm

Aa toka Uu shika Ienai - This series also isn't dark by any stretch, but the main girls are weird as hell and have baggage.

Helter Skelter by Kyoko Okazaki - All of her stories have strange women but it felt mandatory to recommend her magnum opus.

Usotsuki Mii-kun to Kowareta Maa-chan - Haven't read this one in a while, but I remembered liking it. Idk its not long so it can be here too. CW for child abuse

Tokyo Girls Destruction - there are no serious CWs for this one. It's like a 90s fight shounen with girls and it rules.

Sumire♡16-sai!! - Does this count? Probably not, Sumire is a nice girl. Regardless, it's still good. I recommend it.

Himegoto: Juukyuusai no Seifuku - Alright so you know how I mentioned that some series in this might border on mid to some. This is one of them; but it does have something special that may or may not land for you like it kind of (?) did for me. CW for discussions of gender/body dysphoria, SA (both enacted by and against certain main characters), CSA (not graphically detailed, but it's a core component of one character's backstory) and emotional abuse.

Franken Fran - You've definitely read this but just in case. CW for body horror LOL

Alien Nine - You've probably already watched the OVA but the manga gives the series an actual ending + further character development and darker content (some REAL bad stuff happens to our girls). If you can stand the more off-putting components of the anime, you'll likely be able to read the manga just fine. I'm also reading Propeller Heaven, which is by the same mangaka and is considerably similar. CW for body horror for both

also if you're a fan of Alien Nine, I would recommend Terumina. The female characters aren't unhinged, but there's a very strong, dreamlike atmosphere that's pervasive throughout the story, so they sometimes do strange things.

Bokura no Hentai - Alright so I want to highlight that only one of the main characters in this is a girl, the other two are boys who like to dress effeminately, but all of them have a very knowable forms of baggage that become intertwined as the story moves forward. CW for gender dysphoria, homophobic/transphobic bullying, CSA (not graphically detailed, but discussed and depicted in an abstract sense), SA (both enacted by and against a main character), physical and emotional abuse

Swweeet - This is a story where the questionable (or outright bad -_-) character development is upheld by the fact that the art is gorgeous and that there's an alluring sense of intrigue as the plot unfolds. The female main character of this one is certainly Going through it. CW for SA (main character against another) and questionable displays of violence ? at times

Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction - I remember in an interview Asano Inio did after he completed Punpun he said that he started DeDeDeDe because he finally understood why people gravitate towards cute girl sol manga. Anyway this series is about the most girls ever.

Gensou Gynaecocracy - So this is a collection of oneshots by Hiroaki Samura. It's not completely translated, but has his signature style and a reasonable amount of intrigue per chapter. The stories seek to convey a sense of magical realism and atmosphere above all else, so while characters aren't particularly deep, they're at least weird. I recommend the first few chapters (the story about the pineapple girl in particular) as a starter, and then you can see if you want to continue reading. I changed my mind, just read the pineapple girl chapter and then go read Wave, Listen to Me!

Hanshin - Just read the oneshot, the other chapters aren't related

Aishiteimasu, Kyouko-san. - It appears that scanalators have abandoned this one for the time being, but I'm honestly intrigued enough to see where this one goes (even if it does end up being Dead Tube level trash). CW for some very weirdly depicted child abuse

trash. - Man, I really didn't want to recommend trash., but most of my list doesn't actually deal too much with girls who bite and kill and murder. trash. is a pulpy exploitation horror, but it has more tact than Dead Tube about how to portion out the Edge. it's female cast has reasonable enough characterization and motivations that I can say things never really get boring. You just gotta read it and see if it's for you. CW for anything you could possibly think of short of outright guro.

Golondrina - Not too unhinged, but still rather unique. It's about a lesbian who becomes a bullfighter after a devastating breakup.

also I havent read this one yet but I hear Machigatta Ko wo Mahou Shoujo ni Shiteshimatta is good. I'm apprehensive towards the whole "magical girl, but edgy" thing because of how many writers transparently do not consume any of the genre they're trying to take apart, but this doesn't appear to be torture porn

hey anon, thank you so much (*´∀`)♪ !!! honestly i gotta be honest - i went on a shounen anime binge as a kid and watched countless of them! i kind of just happened to stumble upon the 99 anime when i was maybe 10 yrs old and from the start i knew it was gonna be a favorite series!! and it still is to this day! (<- religiously watched the 2011 series multiple times)

sadly i've been pretty bad at reading fics lately T__T my focus is just not the best, but i do remember .quintessence's works and they made me cry in the best ways possible!! i have almost all of their hxh fics bookmarked on ao3 haha~ i also liked and bookmarked a lot of .decembercamie's works as well when i was a more active reader!! i definitely recommend checking them out if you want. SORRY IF I DISAPPOINTED YOU AA... i just am more of an artist that draws and consumes fanart content but i find writers absolutely wonderful and i am so grateful for their work and effort to give us more content !! idk what i would do without fanfic writers tbh- HAHA.

The Ace Attorney Fic Rec Repository (a.k.a. the Ace Attorney Library!)

What is the purpose of this blog?

I wanted to make a place to curate Ace Attorney fanfic from over the years. I would like to request that users submit links to fics that they think deserve more love. While this blog is small now (in terms of followers) I hope that its reach might grow to a large readership and help to connect writers and readers. I would like to see fics get the views, kudos, bookmarks, comments and follows that they deserve.

Do you accept any Ace Attorney fic?

There are some notes to note. I look for - overall quality, grammar and spelling, length (longer than a drabble), creativity and originality. I won’t reject a submission on the basis of me not caring for the particular characters, plot or ship. I am aiming to put together a curated collection for the blog. Based on this, I’m looking to accept a subset of NSFW and slash fic as well (which will be tagged of course), depending on the content. NSFW fic links will be given a Mature Community Label in line with tumblr’s content policies.

That being said... in service to the curation aspect, the following submissions may not be accepted: songfic, poetry, Y/N fic, drabble collections, and some types of crack/troll fic. While these are all lovely types of fic, the AA Library’s focus is going to be on prose - one shot or multichap, with a bias towards completed fics.

Can I recommend my own fic?

You sure could, though the caveat being I may not accept the submission - especially if one is submitting all of their fics as a batch or spamming the submissions one after the other. Give everyone a chance, willya?

soukoku is bsd original name for the dzi and chuu duo, it's not a thing in bungou to alchemist or other bungou media. though, people do ship them in many non-bsd bungou media too, but like said it's not their ship name, or a term used anywhere else than in bsd. please refrain from using it when talking about other versions of those two, you're being rude to the irl writers too when you reduce charactes based on them to something that only one series out of hundreds uses 😔 i know you mean nothing bad, but just had to point out this. if you have to use ship name, it's dazanaka/dazachuu (or nakadaza/chuudaza depending on which dynamics you prefer for the ship). japanese fandoms for the various bungou medias haven't really fully decided on which reading to use for chuu, as his surname and first name both start with the same kanji, that can be read either as "naka" or "chuu". and as dzi is a surname, some find it weird to only refer to chuu with his first name when the other one is always called by his surname, meanwhile some are totally all about calling the short guy chuu anyways even if it's a bit unfair. but the japanese bunal fandom mostly uses dazanaka (or nakadaza for inverted dynamics). so yep, pick your choice, but no skk ever again for bunal or other bungou media versions of them, thank you. have a nice day o/

ps. there's also a comprehensive info on pixiv's dictionary regarding the bsd ship (https://dic.pixiv.net/a/%E5%A4%AA%E4%B8%AD), and it also mentions bunal's variation (https://dic.pixiv.net/a/%E5%A4%AA%E4%B8%AD%28%E6%96%87%E3%82%A2%E3%83%AB%29) which has same ship name. people add (bsd) or (bunal) behind the ship name to differentiate them. among western fans it's especially seen on ao3 when people tag their fics. you can use translator to get a gist of the links' content if you don't know japanese!

Everything sucked. Work was stressful, and your parents sudden want to have a say so in your life after months of radio silence wasn’t helping. The constant complaining about you living alone and still being single was getting tiring. You weren’t even single anymore! You just didn’t want them trying to meddle in your relationship with Micah. Your parents randomly popping up to your house trying to arrange a date was the final straw. You needed space, away from work, away from your parents. You needed comfort, you needed Micah. Yeah you could vent to him on video call, but you wanted him next to you, and you were gonna make that happen

After taking some time to plan and pack you were ready to go. You hadn’t told him you were coming to visit during your daily calls. He had gotten a little suspicious when he noticed you snooping around in his computer, but he just thought you were trying to send him a little gift. You had to admit, Micah was right about it being child’s play to find someone’s address, you just never had a need to do so.

When the day finally came you had told Micah that the company you were working for was sending you out of town so you wouldn’t be able to talk until tomorrow. Luckily he took the excuse (though he still was suspicious) and you were on a plane to his house.

From outside you suddenly heard running, something getting knocked over and Micah apologizing to an annoyed Skrunkly. Before you knew it he was swinging his door open and he starts screeching with joy when he sees you.

“OH MY GOD WAIT YOU PULLED A ME YOU’RE HERE HI WHAT THE FUCK!?”

He pulled you into a hug, spinning you around and planting kisses you all over your face. He was so excited he could cry tears of joy. It had been a while since he came to visit you and with what he had been hearing from you about your job and your family he had been thinking about coming over again but here you were at his door step.

“So why exactly did you come here? Don’t get me wrong, I could pass out with how excited I am that you’re here but… nothing serious happened did it?”

After assuring him things were find and you just needed a break from your job and your family he nodded and let you in. He was more than happy to have you with him. He doesn’t ask to much about what’s going on back home for you either, he knows thats not what you’re here for.

When you’re at his house you’re royalty and he is your personal butler thats also your secret lover those were his exact words don’t @ me. Whatever you want to do that’s what the two if you are gonna do, even if its just laying in bed all day and snuggling Skrunkly. You do eventually get to have your little competition of who’s the best back rubber between you both. Skrunkly ended up picking Micah but you claim he cheated since Micah feeds her of course he’d win. As compensation you do get to experience the back rub treatment Skrunkly got and quickly realized why Micah won in the first place. Micah’s grip was gentle yet firm as he meticulously worked out the kinks in your back. The feeling was so relaxing you found yourself falling asleep. Micah found it cute how by the time he was finished you were sleeping soundly.

He cooks for you every day you’re there except for the night he wanted to take you out. He made a big show out of it too. He took you shopping for formal clothes, bought you flowers and took you to a fancy restaurant together. While places like that aren’t really his thing he made you giggle at how dramatic he was about it all. He refused to let you open any door, joked around with a fake rich person accent, and of course you brought Skrunkly with you both. She had her own little pearl necklace and everything. It was all in good fun but above all he just wanted to show you a good time. And he’ll admit, getting to see you all dressed up does something to him.

He loved getting to show you his room and his set up. He would let you play on his computer around a bit but according to him there was something on there that he’d get in big trouble for showing you. It was really because he had about 10 songs he wrote about you he was too embarrassed to share yet and about 100 screenshots of your face during calls that he did NOT want you finding out about.

On your last night before you went back home Micah gave you a small gift box, his face a tinge of red. When you opened it inside was a necklace with angel wings and a key.

Souma refused point-blank and ran away like his life depended on it. He bumped into Subaru, who jumped in immediately to help Souma defend his sword from Mao / StuCo. They escalated it by barricading themselves in a classroom to keep Mao out, creating a siege situation, and all the YNS 2nd and 3rd years showed up to join in the fun / see what the fuss was about. In the end though, Souma was permitted to keep his sword by his side, cos after demonstrating his skill with the sword in a solo live (the titular “One-Man Army”), Mao recognised that the sword was part of what made Souma, well, Souma; and as a fellow idol, Mao could not confiscate that integral part of his identity away. So, it is not certain if this uproar was really the one that prompted Souma to start keeping his sword in the gym.

I especially agree with that "challenge as a writer" statement, having a canon like SNK really adds to the experience of writing for these characters. <

ohhh hell yes, pink anon coming up here being all philosophical and shit! this is what i like to see. i know that everybody likes to say that they know their faves better than the creator but when it comes to snk.... i tend to believe the stans. the interpretations of people who care about the characters are sooo much better whatever bullshit the loud ignorant masses like to spout on twitter or reddit or whatever crap the ending offers.

yes! completely agreed. writing for snk canon is unparalleled and so when people choose NOT to write in it,, i'm kinda just like. why? canon is so fun, maybe it's intimidating though. that's WHY it's fun! i know you get it!

yyyeyeeaaaaaahhhh it's going to be quite bad. unfortunately it'll probably still take me a while to write, at least another month or so. but an attempt is being made!! i think about it all the time.

awww man, that is really sad. i do see what you mean! the vibe of the song does really fit the vibe of TRNT, minus the unrequited love of course. everybody cares SO much there's just miscommunication at first. i know i'm writing slow as fuck but TRNT is going to get a lot happier in the overall story
