ooh thank you!! I picked #12 which was Fruits Basket (2001). I really loved this but my version didn't make it easy because I initially only had the first 18 episodes, and the quality was like if you put it through a blender and then screen recorded a horizontal version on the world's longest mobile phone. but we made it through and I'm glad because it's a great series!! lots to say about grief and growth, I think

i finally have names for the dark hand!

Valmont Monette (i liked how stupid but also posh it sounds. Monette roughly means home or rich protection

Yamaguchi Tohru (Yamaguchi being 山口, meaning mountain entrance and Tohru being 竜, meaning dragon, imperial, mythical creature)

Phineas "Finn" Flanagon (i just liked how it sounded, but Phineas possibly means serpent's mouth in hebrew or Nubian from an egyptian name and Flanagon means descendant of Flannagán, which itself means blood red)

Andrea Giuseppe "Ratso" Santoro (huge thanks for my italian friend for just handing me this name wholesale. Andrea from Andrew which basically just means masculine, Giuseppe for Joseph, which means he will add, and Santoro meaning all saint's day)

Alonzo Chow (Alonzo meaning noble and ready. His chinese name is Kěguì, spelled 可贵 and meaning to be treasured or praiseworthy with Chow spelled 周 which is both a dynasty (Zhōu) and means to encircle)

Bonus:

Chow's little sister is Amanda, meaning loveable or worthy of love with her chinese name being Kěài, spelled 可愛 and meaning worth loving

Even Katsura Hashino woman-codes Adachi...

I PROMISE THIS TITLE ISN'T CLICKBAIT HEAR ME OUT OKAY.

In his Persona Club P4 interview, Hashino describes his interpretation of the founding myth in the Kojiki: Izanagi refuses to see the truth of Izanami's death (even tho he watched her die and buried her; dude is not bright), journeys into Yomi, and ends up almost getting killed by Izanami after seeing the truth.

Hashino goes on to describe how he added the interpretation that death is a metaphor for when a person mindlessly accepts all of the things they hear on the media and stops thinking on their own. Izanagi not dying, thus, is because he did not accept her death at face value.

When you think about events in the game, we can see how this theme plays out. For example, Adachi has a stalker crush / teenaged girl hyperfixation / oshi culture regarding Mayumi, so he goes to the Amagi Ryokan and verifies if she was actually in an affair with Namatame or not. Like, "He did not blindly accept what he was being told! He went to see for himself!" kind of thing. Making him Izanagi, Mayumi his Izanami, and the ryokan his Yomi.

...and then he kills her but uhh okay look that's besides the point.

Similarly, later on in the game, the Investigation Team deduces that it's Adachi. But even though they think this, they still want to verify it for themselves. Even after Adachi jumps into a god damn TV, Naoto still approaches it like something that needs to be verified. After all, it was their rash decisions and believing what was being told to them that almost led them to murder Namatame.

Which is why they, too, must journey into Yomi and discover the truth for themselves. By December, the Investigation Team represent Izanagi, Adachi is their Izanami, and Magatsu Inaba is Yomi.

...WHICH MEANS THAT EVEN THE DIRECTOR OF THE GAME IS WOMAN-CODING ADACHI NO I WILL NOT BE TAKING CRITICISM ON THIS THANK YOU.

Megumi has always been blunt, but somehow her attitude seems especially pointed today as she gives Tohru a look and sighs.

"You need to get over it already. Even if you don't attack anyone, someone else will, right?" In spite of what she's talking about - attacking and killing innocent people, draining their blood and taking their lives without mercy... it seems like the thought doesn't particularly bother Megumi at all. She speaks as if she's asking about his Tohru's day, or talking about the latest television show - in such a disarmingly casual manner that anyone listening would surely think they were the ones going crazy.

But as far as Megumi's concerned, she's completely right. After all...

"If you don't drink, you'll die for good this time. And Tatsumi won't let you fall out of line anyway, so... you've gotta accept it. Don't you have anyone in this village who's ever treated you badly?"

stumbled across your au recently, i just wanted to say i really like your take on an older sho! he's underappreciated i think so it's nice to see him sho (lol) up in places! i really like your artstyle as well and especially the way you draw akechi, you communicate the breadth of his emotions and facades incredibly well

But SPEAKING OF SHRIMPS OF MEN

Sho is definitely more Minazuki here (and I tried to base part of his outfit on Tsukuyomi) and I’m currently trying to work out where I can fit an interlude where I explain what happened with him in lieu of P4AU,,, bc P4AU definitely hasn’t happened (yet.) but Sho still wakes up in a hospital, and he goes unaccounted for on the night shift. And it’s a cold case for sure, but… someone might dig it up in a year or so…

although we don’t know how old Sho is, I’m assuming he’s probably a 3rd year or would have just graduated if given the chance. Adachi just kind of monitors his behavior post-arrival to Inaba and ends up getting a new son out of it. (No sho/adachi here, sorry!)

anyway I just think they would have a fun family dynamic
