8. Do you have any OC family trees?

Nope! I could make some, I suppose, but I've never had OC families big enough that I'd need a family tree to keep track of them.

13. Which story has the most lore?

...none of them. My old stories written when I was a kid had a lot of lore and rich settings and all that jazz, now it's not what I'm really interested in writing. That might change with Karita's story, though, I'm really excited about Magic in Space™

27. What are your favourite movies?

Chicago is my #1 favorite movie, I've watched it a bunch of times and I still adore it. Now I want to rewatch it 😔

🌼 - If you used any other labels before your current one, what were they?

I actually tried out Aromatic for a little but! But I just didn’t quite like it. It felt itchy - like I kept wanting to mess with it or justify it or change it. So I just dropped it.

💛 - Who or what made you realize you were queer?

Technically that random girl in my theater class, but I remember realizing I was different when I was like 7. Some other girls and I were sitting under a table, and they started sharing their crushes. When it was my term, I just picked a boy that I liked to play with. They all went “EW” in unison and I could not figure out how I went wrong lol. How was he different from anyone else? Meh I’ll just pick a different one. That’s how that works, right?

🫐 - Are there ways you wish you could present yourself differently, but can’t?

… still poking that one honestly. Sometimes I wish I more masculine, but when I do I don’t like it. I dunno. I’m pretty okay how I am now.

4. Is there a kind of whump you wish you could write better?

As I recently discovered with @redwingedwhump, the hardest thing for me to write is actually recovery arcs. Stories that have slow, emotional pacing and tend to be more driven by internal conflict than by external forces. I'm thinking specifically recoveries where the character(s) are already somewhere stable and safe, and are having to come to terms with things that already happened to them (instead of facing ongoing re-traumatization at the hands of the Plot).

And don't get me wrong, I still do enjoy writing slow, heavy scenes where not much physically happens! They're just as important to the story as a whole, and they can be a LOT of fun to read. But I can only write them in the context of shorter scenes within a larger story, where the emotions serve as a pause from the forward momentum of the plot. When those emotions are meant to provide the momentum on their own...that's when my skill set tends to feel stretched. (For the time being!)

12. What is one of the strangest things you have had to research for your whumpy writing?

Oh man... that's a hard one, because I don't really consider any of it strange. Niche, yes. Unusual, perhaps. But my deepest research dives have been into what it's like to live as an upper-limb amputee. Or into what medications are most useful for treating Long QT Syndrome, or what having an ICD go off feels like. Or alternatively, about foods and wildlife found in and around the ancient Syrian desert. Or about laqabs (that one was fun). None of it is actually strange, it's just about understanding the experiences of people whose stories we don't get to find unless we go digging.

25. What advice or wisdom would you like to share with other whump writers?

Take advantage of occasional unsanitary descriptions! Don't be afraid to make the things that happen to your characters be embarrassing and gross! I know we all love the pretty kinds of pain, but I feel like we shoot ourselves in the foot by leaving out the stuff that's gross or humiliating. If your whumpee is crying themselves sick, let them get snot on their face! If they just had a near-death experience, let them realize that they lost control of their bladder! If they're being kept like an animal in a cage, let them face ALL the consequences of ending up without a bathroom!

Those descriptions can each be incredibly brief, but just acknowledging that they're happening at all brings the whole story back to reality. If you go too long without them, your suspension of disbelief starts working against you. The whump your character is going through starts to seem oddly natural. Until suddenly there's something there that gives you just that tiiiiny jolt of "....oh. Oh god. It really is that bad, isn't it?" that truly renews the horror of what you're reading. There aren't many things that can have such a big impact on the overall reading experience of your story in so few words.

And besides, when you find various ways to take away the dignity of your characters (and I mean ALL of your characters, not just your whumpees), it's SO FREEING. You learn that you don't need your Aloof Dignified character to be aloof and dignified 100% of the time. And that in fact, when you find ways to take that defining trait away from them and they still come back to it after, that makes the character trait ten times stronger than it was before. Perfection kills personality. Humiliate everybody, and you'll see what they're actually made of.

But I suppose sometimes speed is of the essence, or so they say. Altair: Proposing is no different from killing an enemy general—the simpler, the better. If I were to plan this proposal, it would be focused entirely on the moment of truth. I would corner my target, leaving not a single escape route—then, it's a waiting game.

🌼 - If you used any other labels before your current one, what were they?

Asexual, pansexual, bisexual... it was a journey :v I stuck to bisexual the longest until it got to the point where my thought process was basically "maybe my attraction is simply 99% women and 1% men!", and then, well, I realized I was a lesbian.

💙 - When you first learned about the Queer community, did you immediately realize ‘That’s me!’ Or did you consider yourself a ‘really good ally’ for some time?

Oh I was definitely a Really Good Ally. At that time I had a tendency to not really think about myself, my identity and emotions, so there was absolutely no self-reflection at first lol. It took me a bit to start exploring the possibility of me being queer.

🏳️‍🌈 - Do you enjoy the colors of your preferred flag? Do you incorporate it into your outfits, decor, etc.?

I love the colors of the lesbian flag! I don't incorporate the entire color palette, but I do love me some pink or peach color, and I once got my nails painted in the colors of the flag, that was fun.

Vio's short, sparkly, co-worker has left him a Squidmas card and a fairly conspicuous box.

Inside said box is are a few things.

One is a hand made and dyed silk shawl with flower embroidery on it, which is wrapped somewhat separately inside the box. It is labeled with his mother's name on a small card attached to its wrapping.

Beyond the shawl there is a custom made and embroidered bomber jacket, the embroidery being a mix between some wildflowers and a deep sea angler fish skull on the back. The inside is lined with a military level armor lining weave not unlike their agent uniforms but softer to the touch. The fit is comfortably loose to offer mobility.

There is also a pair of motorcycle boots with the matching wild flower motif in a minimalist fashion under the jacket. These are also lined with the same military weave. It's a wonder how she got his shoe size.

The information card for the custom fashion pieces lays out their default durability, the washing instructions and the slotted booster chunks she put into them. The jacket specifically has been made with respawn punisher as the special trait.

The card reads as follows:

As he finishes reading the card, he shoves it into his pocket. Man, this girl was persistent with.... getting to know him? And he guesses that she overheard his conversations and found out about his mom’s condition from the captain.

 Vio pulls out the contents of the box-- Gotta admit, the jacket was nice same with the boots. While loose fitting, it seems like something he shouldn’t be wearing in the Splatland’s heat. Perhaps... He’ll save wearing it for another time. When will he wear it? Well... That’s really him for him to decide? What bothered him was how did she get all the info on his sizes. Isn’t like that invasion of personal space? How did she get the info on his three sizes? Let alone his shoe size? Ugh, kinda creepy!

‘Is she like obsessed with me or something? How did she even get my sizes right..?’

At least the shawl was nice. He’ll give it to his mom the next time he’s allowed to visit. She did mention she was getting tired of wearing the same hospital gown nowadays...

AU where Sanemi is trying to raise Genya and all his kid siblings with you, his childhood sweetheart.

/ "How come Genya gets all this cutesy heart shaped shit in his lunchbox and all I get is a big, fat, juicy burger?" snarls Sanemi from behind you, watching you prepare the toddler's lunch. "You're even writing him a fuckin' note?! What is this, huh? You're the most adorable baby boy in the world, love you! Why don't I get that? Do you even love me?! Am I just the other man?"

You just snatch the note off Sanemi's hand and fold it into Genya's Iron Man-themed lunchbox, knowing the toddler would come back crying, also questioning whether you stopped loving him if it wasn't inside.

"'Nemi, I'll put them in your lunch box, too, okay?" you say casually, quickly putting the cucumbers through the heart shaped cutter.

"Pfft, no thanks. Don't need none of tha' cringy shit."

Though the soft, boyish smile that dons his face when he opens his lunchbox at work to find mini burgers with cute little flags on top of them and a few other things — heart shaped, of course — alongside a note that reads: To my handsome Sanemi, I love you loads <3

Henry:

How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?)

Most nights, Henry spends about an hour before bed bundled up and reading. He almost always ends up reading a little longer than he intended to, fighting off the heavy eyes until he finally has to put the book down before he drops it.

How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach? 

Oh, this one is a very familiar frustration for him—the scar tissue around his arm acts up sometimes and will get insanely itchy, but because the nerves have been so heavily rewired it can be nearly impossible to figure out WHERE the scratch is coming from. Imagine if you got a mosquito bite but no matter how much you ran your hand over your skin, you can only find a spot CLOSE to where the bite actually is. And most of the places you end up trying to itch are on scar tissue, which itself feels awful to scratch at. It's endlessly frustrating. Henry will try to ignore them for a while, but he usually just gets shifty and then irritable and then finally has to go off to a bathroom somewhere to spend ten minutes searching for them.

More mundane itches, he'll just excuse himself to go handle.

What causes them to feel dread? 

😈 Electricity. The sound of it crackling, the sight of sparks arcing through air. It gives him a very tangible kind of dread because he knows that if he gets shocked, it could very well stop his heart. And even if it doesn't kill him outright, a good shock means going to make sure that his ICD is still functional. And if not, that means yet another heart surgery in order to replace it.

Dogs are another one. Less dread and more 'you're gonna get to see him climb onto a table to get away from your Pomeranian' kind of antics.

What memory do they revisit the most often? 

You know, this is a really really hard one for me to answer. Henry spends so much of his time planning for the future, and very rarely goes about living in the past. Unless it's something he's still carrying a lot of guilt over. And of those, you pretty much have your pick—most of the time it's over the kind of mistake that you can only see the other choices for in hindsight. How you'd wish you'd been more careful, that you'd known to ask, that you'd waited just one day more. The ones that really haunt him are the ones that got other people hurt. And unfortunately, of those he has quite a selection.

Nadi:

What embarrasses them?

Nudity. And unfortunately for Nadi, his definition of the word is MUCH different than the ifrits'. To him and his people, a grown man having his hair exposed to people other than family is horribly indecent. Having his face exposed to strangers before they've become acquainted is the same. And having any more of his body exposed than just his hands and feet?? It's so unthinkably humiliating that to be in as little clothing as the ifrit wear would make Nadeem want to curl up into a little ball and cry. He has no idea how the ifrit just. Do that. And he's so badly hoping they won't make him join them.

[Here's the fun part of having Nadi as a narrator though: this boy doesn't realize that to the rest of the world, he's the one who is such a traditionalist and prude that it borders on comedy. They entertain it because they think it's cute.]

Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke? 

Not a specific joke, but he does have some pretty signature stories when he's around younger kids. Nadi earned himself a reputation around his village for being able to entertain all the children with his storytelling. It got to the point where parents who wanted to socialize during holidays knew exactly where to go leave their little ones; circled around a fire where Nadeem was already painting tales of travellers and magic. And the kids loved it because if they begged enough, then near the end of the night they could always talk him into one (1) scary story. And at those? Nadeem absolutely excelled. Sometimes it would be stories he adapted from real jinn encounters—a lot less bloody and terrifying than real life tales, but taking from the things that made them so unnerving. And he'd watch for when the kids were all holding their breaths in terror, then give a little jump scare. And then end the story on something silly, once the chorus of delighted screaming was over.
