I hadn’t drawn the house of hades boys in years! Curse me! This isn’t exactly a remake of an old painting but it’s in the vibe of how I used to draw them all the time. Poetic and stealing kisses

“Come now. You have no words for a dying man?”
“You’re not a man, Zag.”
“Okay, pretend I am.” He takes a deep, rattling breath. “Pretend I am a warrior and I’ve been stabbed by another warrior, someone far less talented who certainly only got the chance through sheer luck and died soon after but I’m still here.”
“Lord Ares would be the one to send you to the underworld,” Thanatos says. “He presides over battlefields. I provide support in some cases.”
“Very well, pretend I’m a farmer or something, and, um. I have been… gored by a horned animal?”
Thanatos nods. “It’s possible.”
“Yes! Okay, gored by a horned animal. And you’ve happened upon me bleeding out on my field. And I’m afraid. Would you just reap my soul or try to comfort me?”
“You’re not a farmer. You wouldn’t be. You’d be the warrior.”
“Than.” Zagreus wipes the corner of his mouth. Just before he lowers his hand, Thanatos sees red on the backs of his knuckles. “You can’t be this serious around dying people. In this hypothetical, I have to be the farmer so I can be reaped by you and not Ares.”
Zagreus’s arm snakes over Thanatos’s waist. His fingers brush the small of his back. Thanatos leans closer and takes a deep breath of Zagreus’s wild hair, smelling fire and smoke and blood and pomegranates.
“Alright,” Thanatos says. “You’re dying.”
