This fic feels so close to me because of how true and close the whole settings and narrations sound like with my thoughts so yes, it's something you should invest your time and think of everytime someone said sebschumi.

: I HAVE NO WORDS FOR THIS FIC EXCEPT THAT HOW BRILLIANT AND ALLURING THE STORY IS. I've always wanted a seb harem fic with sebschumi as the endgame considering of the drought ive been facing so when this fic came, it's as if god has heard my prayers because truly this fic alongside with the author herself, my guiding moonlight and the stars of my night, are just god given with how much they changed the trajectory of my life and im so glad i met her and able to read her works. : as a fan of dead dove with a huge favouritism of age gap and underage characters, i was super happy when i first read this fic mainly because of the struggle, the push and pull dynamics between sebschumi and their guilt ridden thoughts as well as their burning desire that makes this feels so so good yet vile to be reading. It's that kind of fic where i jerked off to every night while thinking about it lolll BUT IM SO SO SO NORMAL ABOUT IT.

ok i am really sorry about how this may come off and i want to say i'm not like prejudiced against german people, but i often hear about things from germany like women having to try brothels first before getting unemployment, or "sex being a human right for disabled people" (ie they force a prostitute to go "service" a disabled man), and so on, and it kind of makes me skeeved out by german men? where i'm from obvs there is a local brand of misogyny but how accepted is this in your country? how common is it among the men to just think it is normal and okay? would you say the average man there goes to brothels or is okay with it?

no worries! i completely understand where youre coming from.

first off, women do not have to try prostitution or they get their unemployment benefits cut, thats a myth. a brothel owner tried to enforce it but the courts decided that, since the alleged purpose of the prostitution law was to protect prostitutes, not to foster and promote prostitution, the government agency responsible for unemployment is not to advertise brothel ads or help brothel owners find „employees“ which would not make sense in the first place because brothels dont employ prostitutes, they rent out rooms.

secondly, i dont think german men are more (or less) likely to buy sex than men of other nationalities. german men tend to generally be more shy (when it comes to hitting on women/dating) which is not due to virtue but probably because german people are more reserved in general. my french friends say they get harrassed on the street less in germany, for example. but that doesnt make germans less misogynistic.

from a feminist point of view, we have the worst possible mix of liberal and conservative politics: for example, prostitution has been liberalised and legalised 20 years ago - but abortion is still technically criminalised (albeit accessible). women have been excelling in academics - but mothers still take on most of the childcare (resulting in poverty at old age, single mothers being at highest risk of poverty, and women being overrepresented in part time jobs, for example). the conservative part comes from the center right christian democratic party having been in power for most of the time since the end of ww2. the prostitution law is the brainchild of the green party who have been massively influenced by postmodernism and hippie culture. academics are also pretty much divided into these two camps (conservative or postmodernist liberal) and this also influences politics. i think this is reflective of our weirdly ambivalent culture!

in my opinion, the average german person does not have strong opinions on any of this. they care about würstchen and maybe refugees (racism is a more obvious albeit not more or less grave issue here than sexism). the topic of prostitution is not a widely discussed topic at all. which means people dont care enough to stop that green party nonsense like „sex is a human right“ and buying sex being legal (they are by the way also responsible for the new self id law in germany). feminism is just very weak in germany. there are big discussions on „gendering“ and the trans topic, refugees and nazis, and climate change, but weirdly the sex industry and other misogyny is not often discussed. at best we get a halfhearted gender pay gap debate.

i think german men are freaks in private. we have a huge fetish scene in germany, i cant tell you why. germans are known to be very dry, reserved, not fun loving people, but there is an undeniable underbelly of sex pests here, i cant tell you what it is but maybe thats because im too close to it. i would be very interested to hear how other germans but especially non-germans who have been to or maybe even lived here perceive it!

Time line is still the same. She came through the door and could tell right away she was in a mansion full of vampires. She's trying hard not to blow her cover. But she's out in the city and is like "oh! I remember this place!"

And Sebastian is like "this....this store doesn't exist past the 1940s"

She probably met one of the guys while they were still alive and she's trying so hard not to be like "hey. Do you remember me??" But instead actively tries to avoid them in worries they will recognize her, tho they are all stupid so it's likely they won't.

She knows the basics about each guy and what they did in history, and she can't believe how stupid they are when they are all together.

She doesn't mind Napoleon, and Jean too much. She likes to hear them tell stories about the battles they were in and hearing their point of view on everything.

There's something off about Vincent and Dazai that she just can't seem to put her finger on. She can tell that Dazai is more aware than he likes to seem, and Vincent seems to be hiding something. You aren't sure if he means to hide it because he doesn't want anyone to know, or because he doesn't want to remember.

If Arthur could be quite and stop over analyzing everything for five minutes she might actually like him. She overheard him and Isaac and decided to interrupt and slap Arthur for teasing Isaac. She doesn't know much about Isaac but doesn't like hearing Arthur teasing him.

She was excited when Will came around. She always enjoyed his plays, however, she wasn't expecting him to actually talk like that, and occasionally had a hard time following what he was saying. She was also happy to see Leonardo and excited to see what new things he's come up with. But then slapped the back of his head and realizing how lazy he really is.

Being a pureblood, you end up learning more than one language, and they all found out she knows a few languages the first time Mozart muttered something about her. Then she went off in German too him. He never expects someone to know German so it caught him off guard. Theo happened to be in the vicinity and said something about "hondji is feisty today" and she heard it, and understood it and gave him a mouthful as well.

She feels the most pity for Sebastian. He's the only human here and he's doing all the work. But by watching everyone else she doesn't think she could trust any of them to even fold the laundry.

Ferise/Herise

Basics

started this conlang in 2019 while taking french. i think its cause i wanted to one-up french [i hated it]. theres 11 different pronouns:

h͡a [i], e͡n [you], fr͡e [he], dr͡e [she], hr͡e [they singular], e [it], heh͡r [we], nr͡er [you all], fo͡er [they male plural], do͡er [they female plural], and ho͡er [they neutral/mixed plural].

theres also four different standard verb conjugations [with no exceptions!!]:

-o͡n verbs, -y͡i verbs, -x verbs, and -s͡h verbs.

the line above two letters indicates that they are actually one letter within the ferise/herise alphabet! they usually have a unique pronounciation that isnt replicated within any other letter or letter combination.

speaking of letters, heres a picture of the alphabet:

a whopping 42 unique letters! wow!!

each letter has one assigned pronounciation. theres nothing like "o can make 15 different sounds depending on the word" like in english. of theres a letter, you automatically know what sound it makes, cause theres only one sound it can be!

another note is that there are, naturally, some sounds missing, like the "ch" sound and the "th" sound. those are unfortunately not part of ferise [more on herise later].

Grammar

the grammar of ferise/herise takes inspiration from a lot of languages. as i only speak english fluently, it naturally takes from english. but its also partially inspired by french, russian, japanese, and chinese, and thats only the ones i can come up with off the top of my head!

sentence structure is still very much subject/predicate like it is in english. "thing does action" is fairly standard for germanic languages i think [im not a linguist so feel free to correct me], and naturally ferise/herise also takes from them.

verb conjugations are also fairly standard. theres a certain form each verb takes based on what the subject is. in order to make it future or past tense, all you need to do is add a few letters on the end. to negate a verb, add another few letters onto the very back of the verb, behind past/future indicators. no fancy schmancy "past perfect" whatever the hell that shit is no thank you 😭

adjectives always go after the word they describe, no need for "and" or commas or anything like that. im thinking of adding a word to indicate the end of a description, something simple like "ib".

prepositions are where the chinese influence comes into play! i was reading an article that said they go before the verb, and then describe the first objects relation to the second object after the verb. so i borrowed that! so if you want to say "i am on the road", you would instead say "i on am road" [there are no articles like "a" or "the"].

question words wrap around the entire sentence. the beginning of the sentence always starts with "bom", and the end is a question word! some conditionals like "can" and "must" behave similarly to question words, and go right before question words at the end of a sentence.

making words plural is fun, since theres two methods! the first is for small amounts but still multiple of an object. you repeat the last two letters of the word, tack em onto the end of the word. for larger groups of objects, you disregard the first method and tack on "a͡ef" at the end of the word!

thats most of what i have right now with grammar. im working on trying to do comparisons, but nothing i found is right yet.

Wait! What's "Herise"?

great question!! its a dialect of ferise, complete with its own slightly separate pronounciations and preferences for name lettering.

writing: herise is more commonly written in cursive [which is notably Much Harder but more fun to write]! what makes cursive so difficult is all the letters end up in different spots on the line: some end above the line, some below, some in the middle, its all over the place. very tricky!

pronounciation: theres a few letters that have differing pronounciations from their ferise counterparts, most notably being the letter "d". remember how i said the "th" sound doesnt exist in ferise? well thats the sound it makes in herise, similar to that of a "ð" and not a "þ" [more "the" and less "thick"]. theres some other details i dont really feel like getting into cause this post is already a monster. ill leave you with some examples of ferise/herise writing!

Talk shop Tuesday!!! How do you decide what research to do for a specific fic and which details to include?

talk shop tuesday!! thank you!! this is a fun question bc im very prepared to articulate HOW i do research and WHY i do research but its a lot tougher to explain WHICH research. a lot of times i’ll decide on a vague premise or setting for a fic and then let the research suggest the story, like whatever interesting resources or anecdotes i come across then shape the plot. so in most cases i am researching before/during the drafting process rather than trying to fill in gaps while editing, i think “write first research later” is terrible advice that i dont follow. the rabbit hole is where the magic happens!!

example: i started ‘not a strange thing amongst the people’ with a vague idea of boyd and raylan in wwi meeting in the trenches or something, and then started researching to figure out the exact circumstances: what their wars would have been like, how a guy from kentucky might have ended up in europe, under what circumstances they would reconnect, where and when exactly this would be happening (on the one hand, probably few of these details would make it on the page and this level of rationalization doesn’t matter when The Trench is a perfectly legible symbol to most readers. ((its the scary wet place where homoeroticism happens!)) however i think its more fun and a better characterization exercise when its realer and also the cliche is right truth is very often stranger and cooler than fiction. history is full of extremely weird coincidences and patterns that make excellent stories.)

the original vague plot i had in my head for ‘not a strange thing’ based on zero research just vibes was boyd as a jaded middle aged kentucky national guard nco who got dragged to belgium and raylan as an mp or something and they reconnect while boyd is awaiting court marshal for some kind of uuhhhh trench scam. or something. however then i started digging into the minutiae of how enlistment worked in wwi and under what circumstances particular types of guys got sent overseas and then thought ‘hey were the marshals in the trenches could that be why raylan was there?’ and looked at one timeline on marshals dot gov to learn that the marshals stayed stateside spying on german civilians and chasing down draft dodgers and a little lightbulb went off in my head and then the story became a totally different story. and this was approximately minute 19 of the research process which was still the idle googling phase.

the other way i decide to do research is by questioning all my own assumptions as im writing. like if i am writing about a place or time that is not my own and i find myself going ‘yeah thats probably how things work’ then that is always going to be a productive place for more research and for the inclusion of detail based on that research bc the gaps between my experience and the character’s experience are why im writing the story. as another example a lot of the first bits i wrote for not a strange thing involved raylan having a car and driving around. this was just an instinctual decision i made (aka assumption) (also i had recently come across the phrase “touring car” and liked it and wanted to use it in something) and then questioning that instinct led to qs like well how did you get from lexington to harlan in 1918. what kind of cars would a marshal have had access to. if other marshals in other places in the country didnt NOT have cars could raylan have had a car. and then that led to an unproductive rabbit hole where i was looking at archival marshal financial records to see if they were buying cars and then i had to just cut myself off and say raylan was allowed to drive. BUT i learned a lot about roads and transit and car culture in the place and time that i think made the story a little juicier.

as always this is long as hell and probably too detailed but i just like to talk about research! i just think its neat! talk shop!

i know for sure that i had a bright pink pony, white hair, normal pony, so no horns or wings, not a baby, not a bro, not skinny. i also know she didnt look down and had one hoof partially raised (because i loved rubbing that part haha)

i dont remember the cutie mark. so either it wasnt very distinctive or it was rubbed off. i did get her handed down from a nice german lady whos daughter didnt want it anymore. i had her in my 90s, so it was that old at least.

so now i just have to find a g1 snowflake thats affordable and that looks ok. (i know ive seen posts here about restoration but i honestly not sure i could do a good job.)

thats the only pony i owned and i thought about buying just any g1 that i like, but that doesnt sit right with me. i dont wanna start a collection, i just want to my pony, dammit lol.

i used to play with this for ages, i was obsessed with it, i had so much playing with it. i kept moving the little figure around it and roleplaying in my hand. such fun.

(but for real that's like one of the reasons I picked russian in uni, I figured, there's lots of stuff online that's in russian, it should help. It didn't because I still have to decipher every word like in japanese but like. In spirit. I would be able to read more Snarry. Maybe one day.)

Also conversational in french?? Damn what is it with everyone learning french, why would you pick this language??? Omg okay so when I started getting back into German last week the first thing i checked was for snarry fics and there were like 12 pages worth and omg, I've already got a few in my Marked for Later to come back to once I have enough vocabulary!

I do fully intend to learn Russian someday, Russian my beloved, when I was in highschool I used to be able to read a little bit even though i was never consistent, and I'd genuinely love so much to be able to get back into it and be able to go further <33 i just already have three languages active rn, and since my goals require I be fairly fluent in each, as well as having a fourth language in the wings for as soon as i can get the other three into a good maintenance point, i just cant do Russian rn and likely wont be able to get to it for a few years.

But the fact that theres lots of snarry in Russian too really helps 👀👀

So i picked French because my school didnt offer German. It was either French or Spanish, you had to pick one or the other, and then in highschool there was also the option to either add or switch to Latin. I picked French. I was pretty good at it, i dropped it in my junior year then picked it back up in my senior year and ended up being conversational enough to be able to use it at work (i worked a food stand at an amusement park that was only 2 hours from Montreal). Ive forgotten a lot of it, though i can still read some things. I kinda miss it tbh, it was really fun being able to actually communicate lol!

But yeah, im mostly focusing on ASL and German to prevent the usual ADHD gets too excited and cant fulfill anything thing! I need to learn ASL despite having really no interest in it because im losing my hearing and dont want to learn once im deaf. And im learning German because i grew up around native Germans enough so that i can read and listen decently enough for someone whos never formally learned it, but i want to be able to actually write and speak in it too! I wouldnt call German a heritage language for me bc it wasnt my parents who spoke it, its my grandparents, but its still kinda a heritage language for me, yknow?

But yeah! I have a list of like 10 or 11 languages that id like to learn, but thats like. Long game, 20-30 years from now goals 😅 for right now im just focusing on ASL and German, and once my textbook comes in ill be learning Tibetan too!

Hey av,

I’ll just start calling you like that since you „signed“ your last text here like that. I wondered already for a longer time if you actually want me to call you with a nick name, but somehow im uneasy with applying nicknames when i hear them from friends (like ale from zoi) bc then I always feel like im stealing something, life if it were somehow awkward to use it as well. Now I got an invitation to use it which makes it feel right.

When you sended me this blog the other day I was feeling quite overwhelmed. I couldn’t really tell what I think about it and what it means. So I decided to sit with it until I feel like I’ve made my mind up. Day by day that passed I felt like saying sorry for not being able to respond yet, and day by day I told myself, that this reaction would play into the tennis match that you want to avoid. So I’m not saying sorry. But thank you for that super cool medium!!! I actually love the idea of having somehow an online diary that we share with each other. Where can just narrate on our own, remember on our own, associate on our own, but also can of course respond to each other. I think it’s fun, it’s a new experience, it’s playful and a vivid archiv to look back on you and me and the world. On the other hand, I’m also afraid of what this shared medium that I don’t have with anybody else could create as meaning for our bonding. 

These days feel somehow pale. Uni started again and as always I’m a bit too absorbed by my feelings of not belonging. Not belonging to that sphere of academia but also to that group of people. I’m dreaming again about people from uni letting me now that im stupid and pathetic (the other day it was the german guy stefan, if you remember him lel). Some days like today, I feel the fear very intensely in my body. I’m longing to run away from social interactions, my body and my mind freezes. Yet, generally on most days I feel like I’m better than usual to convince myself of the fact that it’s just a matter of time, until I’ll feel like I’ve arrived here again after the summer pause and that we all know and share feelings like that. 

And then there is the war. As u can imagine the intensity of the discourse about it is also represented in uni. People with palestinian and arabic background position themselves quite openly and clear. Words like genozid are being dropped in combination of german responsibility. It has not been taking much time quantity wise, but If it comes up it’s quite intense. Of course. I feel like we are laking a space where we can together discuss about it as the main topic and not relating to it and then dropping very emotionalized comments. But of course it’s emotionalized how could it not. I’m rambling and I feel lost with my emotions of being overwhelmed and immensely sad, not sad enough and not helping, not knowing if I want to go to a demonstration for the palestinians, how much that would hurt my israelian friends, how much information my opinion is lacking, to what extend we all need to get rid of the dimensions good and bad, right and wrong, how my mind should be able to explain happenings by history but not justifying at the same time (I feel like thats a rethorical figure that is almost impossible: how can you try to understand in what circumstances people think and feel and desire without inherently being a justicifation?). What does it mean for my active behavior to not stand finally with one or the other side, but stand for peace and not answering violence with violence? I feel lost and i feel I’m lacking ability rn to talk about it in a way that gives me comfort. But on the other hand, we all need to sit in discomfort with it. 

The last week I was hosting Mira which was very nice. I started a pole dance class. I love the idea of jumping and flying around the pole, even though I look like a clumsy monkey still. It will eventually get better - looking forward to the day when my body learned the new movements and it actually feels like dancing. The other day Lotti folded her hand into my hand when I left her and I felt very moved by that, I really wonder how that relationship will develop. I need to leave now for uni. And then the weekend is calling and I’ll be occupied by a party here a party there and uni in between. I’m already looking forward to be a bit tipsy and having fun while smoking :p
