Ravnica: The 38th District
Dimir
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite its unassuming nature with few notable locations; The Dimid controlled districts are hubs of information and research. Littered with libraries on all subjects the dimir guild has expertly woven themselves into the 38th’s society; all the while they collect information and secretly pull the strings of not only the 38th, but Ravnica as a whole. The guildhall is known as The Underclock, where Mistini, the guild’s sphinx keeps a of nexus of Doomsday clocks for districts of interest. The four faces closest to Mistini’s chambers represent the 1st district, 10th district, the 38th district and a district whose identity is hidden, only two minutes till midnight. While the existence of the underclock is shrouded in mystery, high level dimir operatives oftentimes find themselves here during their missions, as it has become a hub of Dimir operations.
Tumblr media
Moving on to the main civilian hub of the Dimir Guild, the Lamplight District. The district gets it’s monacor due to the Crescent Rock Prison Complex, This Azorius controlled Prison was constructed to shield the district from the sun. This effect has caused the district to be in a constant shadow, and subsequently develop a Horrible infestation of duskshell crawlers This compacted district houses most of Dimir’s civilian population. Don't be mistaken, although this is a tightly compacted civilian area doesn't mean Dimir doesn't have its operations held within plain sight. Libraries, stores, and even the birds themselves all work as spies keeping a close eye on anybody within the 38th. Under the surface of the lamplight district is a large portion of Undercity. This area was previously azorius territory and thus is a large network of bridges and waterways now known as The Waterlamp District. This has allowed the district to become quite the pain to traverse for those unfamiliar with its complex layout. The entirety of the Lamplight and Waterlamp districts are butted up against the golgari necro-district of Hangulg which emerged and swallowed a chunk of the district about thirty years ago. While the two gilded districts dont necessary get along, the larger enemy is the Azorius Senate who built a complex of prisons hovering over the districts. Until the fall of the Crescent Rock Prison Complex the two guilds have vowed to cooperate.

A random shot from an anti-aircraft battery, whose gunners accidentally let go with eight shells in the New York metropolitan area on March 13, 1942, hit the Equitable Building in the financial district in lower Manhattan. The shell hit the corner (center foreground), about 400 feet above the street, between the 37th and 38th floors, chipping the corner stonework just above the ledge and knocking loose a small piece of the cornice just below the ledge.

this is random but i’ve been thinking about it today. do you have any thoughts or headcanons regarding other victors from district 4 (aside from the ones we already know obviously lol)? ps Versipellis was so good that i’m still thinking about it
Hey thanks so much!
I did create a list of other d4 victors when I was writing Best Laid Plans and I've mentioned them a few times in other fics, but so far I haven't done very much with them. Here they are (excluding canon victors), along with which year they won and whether or not they were a career:
Kai, male, 21st Games (career - one of the first ones)
Nerissa, female, 30th Games (career)
Dylan, male, 38th Games (not a career)
Calder, male, 46th Games (career)
Coral, female, 53rd Games (trained casually but was reaped)
I also have a few headcanons about them in regards to family life and personalities. Nerissa and Coral are both married, and Nerissa has two grown children and Coral has no kids. Dylan was married but separated from his wife after their son died in the 62nd Games. The others are not married.
Now that I'm writing all this out, I definitely want to start fleshing out Four's Victors' Village more! I'm a big fan of lorata's District 2 series and how it fleshes out the relationships between the victors. I probably won't do something of that scale, but it's interesting to think about for sure!
Thanks for the ask, I love talking about this stuff :)

Hey!!!
I’m interested in your thoughts: how many living Victors do you think each District has at the time of the QQ reaping?
omg hi!! thank you so much for the ask, i love talking about the victors!! iirc there were 59 victors still alive shortly before the quell, so here's what i think:
1: 11 total, 8 living: Jasper Montgomery (2nd, dec.); Ruby Red Bird (6th); Mirage Dubois (17th); Luxe Cloud (22nd); Jade Crawford (30th); Onyx O'Hara (42nd); Amber Nova Astor-Moon (51st); Quartz Whitegrass (59th); Cashmere Davenport (63rd); Gloss Davenport (64th); Crystal Chanel Michaels (66th)
2: 14 total, 11 living: Rex Barnes (1st, dec.); Atticus Nader (4th, dec.); Diana Roseman (8th, dec.); Florence Malina (19th); Ace Robinson (27th); Violet Rashid (28th); Valerie Banks (36th); Brutus Kumar (40th); Emmeline (Lyme) Lin (46th); Leo Kalinin (52nd); Sebastian Kim (56th); Enobaria Moore (62nd); Augustus Braun (67th); Julian Stone (72nd)
3: 5 total, 4 living: Edie Faris (13th, dec.); Sofie Park (26th); Beetee Latier (33rd); Wiress Payne (48th); Gage Patel (54th)
4: 10 total, 9 living: Tomi Ando (5th, dec.); Magdalena (Mags) Flanagan (11th); Caspian Zhang (15th); Siobhan Sullivan (24th); Dylan Kahale (32nd); Estrella Williams (39th); Pearl Davis (49th); Halia Kane (55th); Finnick Odair (65th); Anemone (Annie) Cresta (70th)
5: 4 total, 3 living: Dacie Quinn (16th, dec.); Porter Millicent Tripp (38th); Wyatt Medina (44th); Vander Allen (61st)
6: 3 total, 2 living: Basma Ford (23rd, dec.); Adrienne Mercedes Hughes (43rd); Miles Horowitz (60th)
7: 5 total, 3 living: Phyll Thomas (9th, dec.); Olive Sato (20th, dec.); Grover Hits Back (41st); Blight Hackman (58th); Johanna Mason (71st)
8: 4 total, 4 living: Woof Dimatteo (12th); April Webber (21st); Sasha Travin (35th); Cecelia Balan (57th)
9: 5 total, 4 living: Malt Waters (7th); Robin Blue Ryan (25th, dec.); Maisie Olson (34th); Erika Miller (53rd); Isaac Mesteth (68th)
10: 4 total, 3 living: Vina Garza (18th); Aubrey Flores (29th, dec.); Paxton Bernal (47th); Bel Cuervo (73rd)
11: 6 total, 5 living: Cane Harrison (3rd, dec.); Honeydew Hayes (14th); Seeder Chapman (31st); Harvey McLean (37th); Chaff Santana (45th); Clementine Jones (69th)
12: 4 total, 3 living: Lucy Gray Baird (10th, dec.); Haymitch Abernathy (50th); Katniss Everdeen & Peeta Mellark (74th)
i think that the majority of the deceased victors passed away from old age, with the exception of a few (general TW because this gets dark):
Dacie Quinn (D5, 16th Games): died of cancer at the age of 53 (56 ADD)
Olive Sato (D7, 20th Games): died in childbirth at age 40 (42 ADD)
Basma Ford (D6, 23rd Games): died from a morphling overdose at age 27 (32 ADD)
Robin Blue Ryan (D9, 25th Games): murdered at age 37 (44 ADD) (imo he was a very unpopular victor in D9 because a) he was voted in, and b) as D9's first actual mentor, he didn't do very well, bringing home only one tribute in the 19 years he mentored)
Aubrey Flores (D10, 29th Games): drowned in his bathtub while drunk at age 40 (53 ADD)
Onyx O'Hara (D1, 42nd Games): died by suicide at age 26 (50 ADD)
anyways... thank you SO much for the ask, i'd love to hear what you think :3

Several Uvalde families are suing Daniel Defense, the gun company whose AR-15 style rifle an 18-year-old gunman used to kill 19 children and two teachers and injure several others at Robb Elementary two years ago, lawyers said.
The family members of victims Friday also filed a separate lawsuit against California-based companies Meta — the parent company of Instagram and Facebook — and Activision, whose best-selling video game Call of Duty features Daniel Defense guns.
The lawsuits together will argue that the three companies marketed semi-automatic weapons to the Uvalde gunman before he was 18, accusing them of negligence and wrongful death. The shooter purchased firearms shortly after he turned 18 years old and then used one of those guns to carry out the deadliest school shooting in Texas history.
In Texas, 18-year-olds can legally purchase long guns such as rifles.
Josh Koskoff, an attorney representing the Uvalde families, says there was a direct line between the companies' conduct and the Uvalde shooting.
“Just 23 minutes after midnight on his 18th birthday, the Uvalde shooter bought an AR-15 made by a company with a market share of less than one percent,” Koskoff said in a statement. “Why? Because, well before he was old enough to purchase it, he was targeted and cultivated online by Instagram, Activision and Daniel Defense. This three-headed monster knowingly exposed him to the weapon, conditioned him to see it as a tool to solve his problems and trained him to use it.”
The lawsuits come on the two-year anniversary of the shooting.
Attorneys argue that Daniel Defense intentionally markets its weapons to adolescents and uses platforms including Instagram and first-person shooter games like Call of Duty to promote criminal use of their weapons.
They add that Instagram provides an unsupervised channel to speak directly to adolescent boys because of what attorneys say are flimsy and easily circumvented rules meant to prohibit firearm advertising to children.
The lawsuit against Daniel Defense is expected to be filed in Texas’ 38th District Court in Uvalde County on behalf of 31 family members of the victims. It accuses Daniel Defense of courting the shooter with marketing that lures adolescents into forming an attachment with its brand of AR-15s, particularly its flagship DDM4v7.
The lawsuit against Activision and Meta was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of approximately 45 family members of the deceased and injured victims. It accuses the gaming company of desensitizing young men to acts of mass violence and grooming them to seek out weapons like those featured in Call of Duty. An Activision spokesperson did not respond to questions about the allegations in the lawsuit but issued a statement expressing their condolences to the victims’ families.
“The Uvalde shooting was horrendous and heartbreaking in every way, and we express our deepest sympathies to the families and communities who remain impacted by this senseless act of violence,” the spokesperson said. “Millions of people around the world enjoy video games without turning to horrific acts.”
However, the Entertainment Software Association, which represents top publishers in the gaming industry, denounced efforts to blame video games for real-life acts of violence.
“We are saddened and outraged by senseless acts of violence,” said an association spokesperson. “At the same time, we discourage baseless accusations linking these tragedies to video gameplay, which detract from efforts to focus on the root issues in question and safeguard against future tragedies. Many other countries have similar rates of video gameplay to the United States, yet do not see similar rates of gun violence.”
Representatives for Daniel Defense and Meta did not respond to emailed requests for comment.
While Instagram prohibits the marketing of firearms on its platform, the lawsuit claims Instagram fails to enforce firearm guidelines while rigorously enforcing other types of content guidelines.
The Uvalde families’ legal action appears to follow a similar playbook that Koskoff, a Connecticut attorney, successfully employed in his home state, where he helped victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting win a $73 million settlement in a lawsuit against the maker of the AR-15 style rifle used in that school shooting.
That settlement was widely considered a setback for the firearms industry, which has broad legal immunity from civil complaints. A 2005 law enacted by Congress shields gun companies from liability for crimes committed using their weapons. Koskoff’s team worked around that by successfully arguing that the gun company could be sued under a consumer protection state law, through an exception to the federal law.
Over the course of the Connecticut case, documents came out through the discovery process showing that gun company Remington has a licensing agreement with Activision. It is not clear if such an agreement exists between Daniel Defense and Activision.
A 2019 Instagram post from Daniel Defense says “Call of Duty Modern Warfare launched today” and shows a photo of the type of rifle used in the Uvalde shooting.
Other Instagram posts from Daniel Defense show videos of young men actively firing the company’s rifle. A 2020 Instagram post shows an image of someone taking a gun out of the trunk of their car and the words “refuse to be a victim.”
“Gun companies like Daniel Defense don’t act alone,” Koskoff said. “AR-15s were available when many of us were growing up, but we didn’t have mass shootings by kids. What has changed is that companies like Instagram and Activision do more than just allow gun companies to reach consumers–they underwrite and mainstream violence to struggling adolescents.”
This is not the first lawsuit families have filed against Daniel Defense. Uvalde victims’ families previously filed two lawsuits against the Georgia-based gun manufacturer, alleging that the company intentionally marketed its AR-15 rifles to young males in ways that “encourage the illegal and dangerous misuse” of its weapons.
Daniel Defense has sought to dismiss those lawsuits, which were filed in federal court and remain ongoing.
In the two years since the Robb Elementary School shooting, state and local law enforcement officers have been heavily criticized for their response to the massacre. Hundreds of law enforcement officers descended upon the school and waited for more than an hour to confront the gunman, who shot indiscriminately inside two fourth grade classrooms.
The botched response was the subject of a U.S. Department of Justice report and a scathing Texas House Committee investigation. A grand jury convened by Uvalde District Attorney Christina Mitchell could determine whether any federal, state and local officers are criminally charged.
On Wednesday, Uvalde families — represented by Koskoff — filed a lawsuit against 92 Texas Department of Public Safety Officers. They also announced a $2 million settlement with the city of Uvalde. During a press briefing on the day of that announcement, Koskoff foreshadowed that additional lawsuits would be filed on behalf of Uvalde families, including some lawsuits focusing on the time period before the shooting.
“There has been, appropriately, so much of a focus on law enforcement,” Koskoff told reporters earlier this week. “And, I think it’s appropriate to remember that they are at the end of the road.”
Koskoff noted that the 610-page DOJ report included “not a single page on why the shooting happened in the first place.”
The number of semi-automatic rifles, which include AR-15s, produced or imported in the U.S. have increased significantly since the 1990s. AR-15-style rifles weren’t used in mass shootings until 2007, according to a database kept by Mother Jones. In 2022, gunmen used an AR-15 rifle in 67% of the 12 massacres that year.
The AR-15 was designed in the late 1950s as a military-style rifle.
Officers who responded to the Robb Elementary School shooting feared the rifle and decided to not immediately confront the gunman, a Texas Tribune investigation found. Officers instead waited for a Border Patrol SWAT team based 60 miles away to arrive.
Uvalde families pushed the state Legislature to pass a bill to raise the minimum age for buying certain semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21. That bill failed to pass in the Republican-controlled Legislature that has spent years loosening gun laws, making it easier for Texans to get guns in a state whose residents have a strong fealty to the Second Amendment.

RAVNICA: The 38th District
The Spire of Guilds / The Trials of Ravnica / Crescent Rock Prison
The 38th District, commonly known as Innovation District, or since the events of War of the Spark, The District of Trials. The district's main draw for any Ravnican dweller tends to be the safety of the district. On top of the guildmasters working together, most of the district's proper city is controlled by the two guilds of law, Azorius and Boros guilds. The district is divided down the center by *Innovation Boulevard* where the Izzet and Simic guilds stare each other down in an ever-ongoing competition of advancement. Selenya, Along with The Boros and Azorius guilds, to prevent the growth of the Gruul territory. The Rakdos, Dimir, and Golgari guilds are left to fight and claim the land. or are alloted specialized districts near one of the law guilds. This leaves Orzhov. Orzhov being the black sheep of the district has allowed for little interference from outside parties and has allowed them to gain near complete financial power over the district, allowing for the creation of stuff such as The Sleepless Market Macroplaza. And many many ways to spend your cash.
Tumblr media
**The Spire of Guilds**
The Spire of guilds is nearly as old as the district itself. Crafted by Azor himself after the creation of the guildpact. Azor detained the previous guild leaders, replacing them with specialized clones of himself Azor left the district in the hands of the one thing on the plane he trusted, himself. These clones, while specially crafted to fit the ideologies and aspects of the guilds they held, still maintained the traces of Azor causing each guild to hold the morals of law higher than the average district’s guild masters. The Guild Sphinxes meet at the Spire of Guilds. The Guild leaders are as follows
**Amzorette, Arbiter or Azor:** The clone closest to Azor himself. Amzorette held the highest esteem for her creator and his teachings. Attempting to replicate his leadership to a T, she was successful up until her tragic death at the hands of the previous guild leader of the Senate, Grand Arbiter, Heptrisa III, who struck Amzorette down with a powerful spell causing Amzorette’s body to transform into a flock of doves. After four years of temporary leadership provided by a trusted guild liaison the guild found Androphit, a sphinx planeswalker who shared a love of order and knowledge.
**Mathalis Athornin, All-Knowing Tactician:** The closest to Azor in terms of appearance Mathalis Athornin is a master at both Abjuration magic and Evocation magic. So much so he began a collage within the district and is overseen by him directly. Magister Athornin has recently adopted the precognition magic, developed by the Azorius Senate, into both his guild’s repertoire and his own personal arsenal.
**Mistini, The Enigma Eyes:** Mistini’s Cloning process was done secretly as the Dimir guild had not been revealed to the public yet. As a protective measure Azor did not grant Mistini any eyes so she could not escape her imprisonment. After her ascension to guild leader she had two magical gems put in place of her eyes, This did not allow her to see the world as normal eyes would. Instead she could sense through the physical world and see the magical and life-holding essences of the creatures. She uses this along with her magical prowess to control the the choices of the council
**Sollithris, Rotheart of Golgari:** Cloned, Killed, and Subsequently resurrected, Sollthiris takes his role as the Golgari leader extremely seriously, taking care of the swarm ensures the best for ravnica as a whole, he encourages that the Golgari citizens of the 38th to pay no mind to the political turmoil of the heart of the hive in the 10th districts. He is not without fault though, secretly he has Golgari sink large portions of the city back into the depths in order to gain more land within the city proper.
**Ragormiroars, Wingless Riotmind:** Ragormiroars had his wings ripped off soon after his creation. During the pain Azor connected his consciousness to the wilds themselves. Azor instructed Ragormiroars not to lead Gruul but instead to act as its permanent representative and diplomat. Ragormiroars has stayed true to this order and allows the guild to work autonomously.
**Domahelix, The Meteor Oracle:** The Overcharged clone of Azor Domahelix was gifted with a natural precognitive ability to sense the future of the plane of ravnica, This power has only increased with the creation of the thousand year storm. With her insane magical prowess Domahelix has taken to calling upon the meteors to the enemies of her guild. Domahelix is rarely around to actually run the Izzet guild as she tends to be assisting other districts with whatever crisis they are currently experiencing.
**Teimaiser, Appraiser of Minds:** Teimaiser’s role within the guild of Orzhov is to maximize the profit and maintain the guild's ghastly records, The guildmaster is rarely seen outside of his office above The Sleepless Market where he secretly reads and manipulates the minds of citizens below.
**Sulacas, Ringleader of Madness:** The tragic tale of Sulacas is happily known across the guild of Rakdos within the 38th. A sphinx created by Azor to lead Rakdos, Imbued with the blood of Rakdos himself. Sulacas started his new role with the intention to increase the trust in the rakdos guild within the 38th and possibly the larger guild’s representation. This plan failed spectacularly when the guild fed him to their hidden god hidden deep underneath the surface. The blood of Rakdos fully imbued itself to Sulacas in this moment. Reviving him as a demonic sphinx and bursting from the “god’s” gut, Sulacas had lost the veneer of Azor, his goal has since become to become the thorn within the side of the 38th district. Still yet he happily attends the guildmaster meetings held at the Spire of Guilds.
**Hallirallis, Ingenious Biosmith:** Azor was quite cautious and cruel in his creation of Hallirallis as he knew the dangers the Simic guild possessed. Granting Hallirallis with too much innate intelligence would horribly backfire causing the guild’s scientific pursuit to skyrocket possibly to a hight even the guildpact couldn't handle. Due to this Azor gifted Hall Skyclaim with the egg of Hallirallis. It was entirely up to the Simic guild to teach their guild leader. As Hallirallis grew and developed her own theories she began to experiment on herself. Eventually she found herself splicing herself with a Kraken found within the original oceans of Ravnica. Her overall goals for the guild are heavily guarded but some speculate she plans to become the Prime Speaker overtaking Vannifar.
These sphinxes are what holds together the “order” within the 38th district. As it was hinted at earlier Amzorette had met an untimely demise at the hand of her predecessor, During the four year absence of a guild leader the guild liaison Jaieminsat was sent from the 10th district to oversee the guild’s operations during this absence. Just before the assassination of Ispera, the Azorius Guild Master Androphit, A sphinx from amonkhet, arrived on ravnica with knowledge of Bolas’s master plan to invade ravnica. She was searching for a way to help prepare the people of ravnica. Yet with no knowledge of the plane she wasn’t sure where to try first. Androphit used her intuition and traveled to the largest building she could see. The Spire of Guilds. Androphit resided at the spire of guilds for nearly an entire month formulating every aspect of her plan, awaiting the guild leaders to return; and upon return she made her intentions clear and her goal obtainable. She wanted to train the people of ravnica to fight against the incoming invasion. Despite the overwhelming pushback and scrutiny Androphit layed out her plan to hide the training in plain sight by setting up a series of trials. The five trials would test the skills of Ravnica and showcase the core of each of the guilds Those who prove to be skilled Ravinicans would go on to attempt the Five Trials of The Gods from amonkhet from inside a harmless demiplane. Finally Androphit also utilized the mind of the weaker human liaison. Androphit forced the memories of what she saw during the hour of deviation into the mind of Jaieminsat. The powerful man was reduced to a screaming crumpled ball. His terror of the memories he now had, had convinced the rest of the guild leaders. They would allow her to set up the trials as she saw fit. But in return she must stay on ravnica as the active Azorius Guildleader until either her demise or the Invasion ends in victory. She was happy to accept. Androphit’s first order as guild leader was the construction of the five trials and her new guildhall, each a huge stone pyramid. The trials are as follows.
**The Trails of Community.** The Trials of Community hopes to nurture a love for ravnica its nature and its people as a whole, this represents the core of the Gruul and Selesnya guilds. Participants are sent all across ravnica in a series of goals to learn about the cultures of Ravnica, to gain the trust and protect those you have come to know. To have a Cartouche of Community is to wear an oath that says you will protect ravnica through and through.
**The Trials of Law.**  The Trails of Law represent the core of the Azorius and Boros guilds. Participants of this trial are put through grueling investigations, and court cases. This trial stressed both body and mind. To ware this cartouche is to have a inside and out understanding of Ravnica's law and to enforce it in it's most just manor.
**The Trails of Records.** The Trials of Records represents the core of the Dimir and Orzhov guilds. Participants are tasked to uncover, acquire, and a near idyllic memory of Military, goverment, finacial, and property, records among others by any means necessary. This trial pushes the participants to the edge of debt and death. to ware this cartouche is to know how to steal, understand, forge, and manipulate any form of paperwork to their bidding.
**The Trials of Innovation.** The Trials of Innovation, seek to push how one thinks to the limitations of one’s mind. Representing the core of both the Izzet and Simic guilds. This Trial demands participants to solve the unsolvable and seek to improve on the perfected. To wield this cartouche is to never think inside the box, even on the simplistic of conundrums
**The Trials of Mortality.** The Trials of Mortality brings its participants to death's door then raises them onto the stage of life. Representing Rakdos and Golgari this trial asks it’s participants to push themselves as close to death as possible for the spectacle of others and to become comfortable and even respectful of one’s death and likely undeath. To wear this cartouche is to always have a plan for your death, and to live everyday as if it was your last.
After the completion of all five trials one may seek out Androphit at her guildhall, here they are given the opportunity to enter The Trials of Omniscience. Once accepted there is no going back, the participant is put inside a specialized detention sphere inside of the Guildhall’s main room. From here Androphit projects a one for one recreation of Naktamun and each of the five trials. Androphit creates projections of each of the gods and thousands of citizens. In the matter of just one week the participant lived though or died in the trials of amonkhet. Upon finishing the trials victorious the participant is gifted with the final cartouche. The Cartouche of Omniscience. To embolden oneself with this cartouche is to hold all 10 cartouches, and to be accepted into Androphit’s secret crop known as “Crop  Akh-Id”. Those who are accepted into the Crop  Akh-Id may commune telepathically with Androphit from however far the distance and are entrusted with protecting Ravnica from any cross-planar threats.
**Crecent Rock Prison**
A huge crescent shaped floating isle sitting on the verge of selensyan and Gruul territory. This island floats above the aptly named crescent district, this district focuses much of their energy on handling border disputes between the selenyan and gruul guilds. The prison itself is used as the main Azorius incarceration prison for the 38th. Due to its shape and position, the prison blocks out all the sunlight to the dimir district below, thanks to this it’s gained the nickname The Lamplight District. The prison is seen as a symbol of Azorius's hold on the district by many of the more oppressed guilds.

What Are South Korea's Famous Tourist Attractions and Activities?
Gyeongju
Korea's ancient capital, Gyeongju, is the country's big must-see, and rates as one of the ten most important ancient cultural cities in the world. In among the shops and markets in the modern-day city you'll find abundant relics of its two-thousand-year history, including colossal fifth-century tombs and burial mounds, a seventh-century stone observatory, and the royal pleasure gardens of Anapji, which were designed in 674 AD. Other quarters of Gyeongju are rich with elegant pagodas and historic wooden Buddhist temples, and numerous trails take you to the slopes of the sacred mountain, Nam-san, which dominates the south of the city.
Hiking in the national parks
South Korea is full of exhilarating national parks, all of which are crisscrossed by clearly marked trails and dotted with good camping spots (and the occasional mountain hut). The cream of the crop is Seorak-san, and in particular Naeseorak (Inner Seorak), an exceptionally tranquil stretch of forested peaks, rivers, waterfalls and Buddhist temples - and some established rock climbs too. Also well worth seeking out are Jiri-san, which boasts a 65-kilometre-long ridge trail and lots of historic temples; the popular and fairly gentle trails of Songni-san; and Bukhansan, which is on the edge of Seoul.
Seoul
South Korea's modern day capital has a reasonable number of sights to keep you entertained for a few days. Most interesting are the five imposing royal palaces, some of which date back to the fifteenth century. Inside the Changdokkung Palace you'll find one of South Korea's loveliest gardens, the Piwon, a beautifully landscaped haven of ponds and pavilions. In the modern part of town, check out the Kimchi Museum, dedicated to fiery pickled cabbage that is South Korea's national dish, browse the cutting-edge Leeum Museum of Modern Art, and spend the evening in the trendy nightlufe district of Sinchon.
Panmunjeom
On the 38th parallel, the 1953 ceasefire line between North and South Korea - a four-kilometre-wide strip of land spiked with guardposts - is still in force today, and the village of Panmunjeom, which stands on the DMZ just 56km north of Seoul, is a popular day-trip from the capital. Unless you can afford the cost of joining an organized tour around North Korea, this is the closest you can get to the repressive, desperately impoverished totalitarian state. There's no border crossing here (or anywhere between the two countries) but Panmunjeom attracts busloads of tourists, all of whom required to dress smartly (No jeans, T-shirts or miniskirts) and, if male, to have a respectable haircut!
The Korean Folk Village
It may sound like a coach tour nightmare, but the Korean Folk Village is well worth a day-trip from Seoul, especially if you've not got time to explore the rest of the country. A reconstruction of a typical nineteenth-century village, it's complete with Buddhist temple, Confucian school, pottery and weaving workshops, blacksmiths and traditional farmhouses. The people you see in the village do actually live and work there, even if they might look like actors dolled up in traditional outfits.
Jeju-do
This southern island has maintained traditions that have long disappeared from the mainland and is now a popular tourist destination as well as a favorite with local honeymooners. Highlights here include mysterious Easter Island-like statues, hikes to the summit of Halla-san (South Korea's highest volcano), and a seven-kilometer-long lava-tube cave. The climate down here is warmer and wetter that in the rest of the country, but don't come specifically foe the beaches, as you'll find them crowded and disappointingly scruffy

Franklin-West Clinton Historic District
Franklin Boulevard and West Clinton Avenue
Cleveland, OH
Houses on the southern side of the 6400 block of Franklin Boulevard in Cleveland, Ohio, are part of the Franklin Boulevard-West Clinton Avenue Historic District, a historic district that was listed with the National Register of Historic Places on December 6, 1993.  Included in the district are 5207-7625 Franklin Boulevard and 5802-7325 W. Clinton Ave.; also 6801-7003 and 7319-7405 Detroit Ave. Detroit Avenue represents a boundary increase of December 5, 2006.  The Franklin Boulevard – West Clinton Historic District was established to help residents preserve and protect this important history of Cleveland, enriching the neighborhood’s bright future.
The goal of the Franklin-West Clinton Design Review Committee, established in 2010, is to be an asset for this neighborhood, providing neighbors with information and resources to increase the value of our homes in this historic neighborhood. The volunteer committee members have both personal and professional experience in remodeling, construction, and historic preservation. It is made up of neighbors who are here to serve the community.  The committee follows the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties guidelines, and acts as a local advisory to the City of Cleveland Landmarks Commission on exterior renovations.
The Belden Seymour House, located at 3805 Franklin Boulevard, was built in 1874 by Belden Seymour, a wealthy west side Cleveland businessman. After his death in 1889, his widow and son made renovations to the house and converted it into a luxury four-family dwelling. After his widow's death, the house was further remodeled and eventually converted into a tenement house. A 1931 photo shows the house when, according to the 1930 federal census, it was home to 52 tenants. Thus, the house went from 19th-century Mansion to 20th-century Tenement to 21st-century Restoration.  By the summer of 2021, the historic Belden Seymour House on the southwest corner of Franklin Boulevard and West 38th Street had been restored.
