Six Sentence Sunday

So listen, I'm having this problem where I'm being ridiculously flighty about my writing and hopping from idea to idea. Which I know for some people its normal. They have a lot of WIPs going and its all good. But it's weird for me, and I just can't settle on one thing to work on. And not having finished anything is bothering me.

All that said, I started another fic. Wow.

So have you ever thought to yourself 'dang, love ashton's stuff but really wish she'd just write more about sad guys have tender sex. that would be so different and fresh.' Well fear not, because that's exactly what this is.

It's a post AWTWB/SFC fic about Baz dealing with a resurgence of nightmares now that things have settled, and Simon is dealing with the fact that Baz isn't letting him help. (Coffin trauma woooo.) Basically I binged all the nightmares and h/c cuddling fics in the fandom and I wanted to join in, but I didn't wanna write a Watford get-together thing. So here we are.

I'm still figuring out the title, but right now it's either "Close Your Eyes" or "What Keeps You Awake". Personally like the second one a bit more but its also so so close to my OTHER post-AWTWB coffin trauma fic "What Lies Behind Doorways".

(I haven't even written that many fics and I'm over here recycling ideas.)

The best part is I straight up don't have a plan for this fic (also weird for me). So that's fun! Fully discovery writing at the moment.

Anyway. THE THING.

“Babe?” I say, shaking him lightly, my hand clasped to the side of his neck. I can feel his heartbeat beneath the heel of my palm, and it’s startling. I’ve never felt it … never. “Baz. Baz, wake up.” A tear beads in the corner of his eye, and a pit opens in my stomach. I move my hand to his shoulder and shake him in earnest. He jerks awake with a great, sucking breath, like he’s just breached water after nearly drowning. It’s strangely quiet, though. I think that if I’d not been awake, I might not have heard it. His eyes are wide open, but he’s looking past me, through me, trying to catch his breath. The tear that’d been clinging to his eye rolls down his cheek. “Hey,” I soothe. “Hey, you’re okay. I’m here.” My hand is back on his neck, his jaw, and there it is again. A heavy, lingering beat. “What—" He lurches out of my arms.

I’ve been very busy with uni and I’m also finishing reading HP, so I don’t have that much free time, BUT there have been a couple of people that have begged me to post chapter 3 of my fic Baz With A Tail (Diving Right Into), so I started writing it, and I have some words!

SIMON

When I start to pull back to be able to move around, he’s quick to wrap his legs around my waist. His heels dig into my lower back, bruising and holding me still. He’s glaring at me like I’ve offended him and his entire bloodline. He’s breathing hard.

“If you leave this fucking bed, I will eviscerate you, you fucking nightmare,” he says through his teeth. “I swear to God I will fulfill that prophecy and end you. Anathema be damned.”

His gaze could kill an entire army. My magic would not be able to fight against the way he’s hating me at this moment.

“I was just going to untie you,” I answer, innocently. Pouting.

He’s just as insane as he thought me to be if he seriously considered I would walk away from a show like that. I plan on making him come at least three more times. I’ve always been fond of the number 5, after all. Might as well put it to good use.

He’s finally going to untie the tail!!!! Oh, how much fun is it going to be for them both😈😈😈

grace is doomed to kill in every timeline but it can be prevented by her best friends keeping her too occupied with mundane nonsense for her to find a gun

richie has so much tboy cringe energy. that man kins sasuke you cannot tell me i'm wrong

richie 100% uses anime terminology to describe normal ass situations. he calls steph a tsundere once and steph has to act like her world wasn't just shifted two inches to the left for the rest of the day

oh also in redemption timelines they have movie / bingewatch nights!! they cycle between everyone's favorite shows or films. it's the best part of their week every single time

max was cast as a leading role the one and only time she ever auditioned for theater and it freaked her out so much that she declined the role

richie's hair is Like That because he tried to get the cool anime spiky hairstyle to work for him (it didn't) (he doesn't realize this until college)

pete was a greek mythology girlie i just know this. something about him screams "i read percy jackson way too much as a kid"

after grace realizes she doesn't have to be a "perfect" christian, she swears like a sailor

also grace hand embroiders all her clothes as a hobby! (this is semi-canon, since she has embroidered strawberries on the cuffs of her jeans in the show)

the first time steph smoked ouid, he made the mistake of using cbd oil and a pipe at the same time. man was in SPACE

all of them are poly with each other but at different levels:

steph and pete are Dating dating. so are max and grace. wholesome yaoi VS toxic yuri

ruth and steph are almost definitely "best friends" in the historical sense

richie and ruth are qpp. if they were both 100% straight they'd probably be the most annoying couple in the world

pete and richie kiss sometimes but its genuinely platonic for them. just bros being bros (they are so deeply in love and neither of them realize it until years later)

ruth and pete are friends to ??? to lovers to friends who cuddle sometimes

richie and steph are polar opposites but they love each other to death. black cat and orange cat kind of relationship

max and grace barely intersect with the nerds but they still consider all four of them to be part of their weird situationship

(grace definitely experimented with all four of them, with max's permission. just to be Sure. y'know.)

max is doing her best to make amends with the nerds but it is very slow going. she has gotten to casual fistbump level with them though!

the nerds usually just look at max and grace from the sidelines like they're watching two wild beasts circling each other in their enclosure. their flirting is NOT rated pg and it still baffles them how the local prude and the highschool football star managed to get together

richie unintentionally dropped the fact that he has a fursuit - a timberwolf, because i'm projecting - and ended up helping everyone design their fursonas. pete is a traditional chimera (goat, snake, and lion), steph is a plain black cat, ruth is a flemish giant rabbit (she did research), grace is a sheep, and max is a checkered-tail nighthawk.

any time that the group gets spam calls, all they have to do is hand the phone to ruth and they get taken off the lists the moment she speaks. ruth was frustrated by it at first but it became a game of "how many companies can i inconvenience before they stop calling hatchetfield numbers entirely"

steph braided pete's hair once and he damn near proposed on the spot

ruth knows how to sew (from doing tech) and helps teach max how to mend her clothes! max ends up being really good at it! she goes on to teach the entire football team how to fix their uniforms and ruth ends up being the honorary team favorite for at least a year

im taking jon matteson's "richie should have blue hair in a movie version of NPMD" and fucking sprinting with it. he dyes his hair at least once a year and it's a wildly different color every time

ruth is the kind of gal to love games with lots of violence because it makes her feel like a badass vigilante (she can barely do a push-up in real life) (just like me)

steph is deeply afraid of large bodies of water. major L on his part seeing as he lives on a fucking island

bouncing off of the above hc, pete's afraid of planes. these two can't travel out of hatchetfield without one of them nearly shaking out of their own skin

max doesn't actually like football that much. she's REALLY good at it, yeah, but she'd prefer to play most other sports even if she isn't good at them! she likes the challenge of doing something she won't automatically win!

grace probably writes lists of things to keep everything in order. she's got lists of all her favorite foods, a checklist of daily chores, etc etc (it's also because she's got undiagnosed autism and she functions better when she has a Routine)

no matter what, pete will always stop and talk to the homeless man downtown. he doesn't really know why, though. (ted wishes he could say something to pete, but he never does. best to keep him at arms length.)

ruth really really really reeaaaally wants to cosplay but she's nervous that she'll be deemed as the "cringy weirdo" by other con-goers. she eventually admits this to richie, who rallies the group into a group cosplay for moral support

it takes a lot of convincing for them to find a fandom they all want to cosplay from. they settled on FNAF, specifically security breach bc it's Timely (they go to the con in 2022)

pete is glamrock freddy, steph is monty, ruth is glamrock chica, and max is roxy!

richie was glamrock bonnie and he gets so mad when the official design comes out a year later bc it was completely different than what he imagined

grace eventually agrees to dress up as vanessa (she never played the games) (she thinks FNAF is a real animatronic restaurant) (everyone they meet thinks she's method acting)

they end up crashing at ruth's place absolutely DRAINED. they all have imprints on their arms from carrying around an absurd amount of merch. pete nearly started a fistfight in the parking lot with a bakugo cosplayer. max nearly finished it.

they all agreed that it was one of the best things they've ever done and also to Never Do It Again

richie had a brief phase where he was obsessed with black butler and he regrets it to this day

grace and max both have scary dog energy but in different directions. max (post-transition) looks really intimidating at first glance but she's got golden retriever energy. grace will stare at you with the scariest fucking eyes if you're mean to retail employees

steph has always wanted a pet, but her dad never allowed it. when he moves out and gets an apartment with the nerds, they all agree to rescue a pair of bonded cats for his birthday. steph doesn't stop crying for at least an hour

steph and pete named one of the cats, while ruth and richie picked the other one's name.

Mittens is the Lautski baby, a black and white girlie who is incapable of mischief. she's like the disney ideal of a cat. she's a cuddle monster and will be so sad if you have to get up and do things without her

ruth and richie are the proud coparents of Sir Jotaro Gooberton (the Third). he is the most stupid tabby you will ever meet in your life and he has made the crime rate in the household go up tenfold.

a very common Lautski date night is going to the candle section of walmart and just sniffing every single one of those bad boys until they get a headache

This is Lord Lagarta. She's a caterpillar (from the R2 games) who was the leader of a nightmare rebellion. Until she got captured by the government and put on trial for treason.

There, she meets Rayman, who was assigned to watch her before and after her trial, they banter, and the rest is history.

I also threw in Rabbid Mario in the pair because I thought it was funny.

Tomorrow it will officially be a year since I posted the first chapter of my first fic, Accidents Happen. I’ve said this before but I cannot emphasise how terrified I was throughout posting (I hadn’t shared my story-writing since I was 15 and had some baggage). Now I have broken through that wall and I’m writing more than ever.

Here’s a snippet from an upcoming chapter of For All Intents and Purposes. @erzbethluna and I are hoping to have chp 3 out soon!

This is not my first time at an American airport, but the experience is a little different when you’re doing it as the federal government intended. Last time, we’d walked straight past the fingerprint and facial recognition systems. This time, we’re travelling under our real names, with passports, and going through every check. Simon and I join the Normals in handing over our biometric data. “What next? Samples of our blood and saliva?” I grumble as I regard the machine. This whole thing makes me uncomfortable. Could these systems detect any oddity in me? Perhaps my low body temperature? Oh Crowley, will it even read my fingertips? “Baz,” Simon hisses from his machine. A security guard is regarding me, a short man with a severe brow that partners badly with his otherwise round and babyish face. Simon’s eyes stay locked on his screen, but there’s a fierceness in his stance. Drawing attention to us was precisely the opposite of what I had in mind. According to my research (films and television), you are, at any time, one badly-placed comment or unfortunate circumstance away from a nightmarish encounter with airport security. And Simon is a walking nightmare of a man, filled with the desire to hoard and brimming with fire that can be spat should I be even slightly inconvenienced. Two days ago a van ran a red light at a pedestrian crossing (one we were about to cross), resulting in Simon leaving a melted blotch in the road. Before anyone could pull out their phones, I cast we didn’t start the fire and dragged him away.

Yesterday I started reclaiming my writing space in the kitchen—it’s still a disaster with the remodeling (I don’t know why it’s taking so long to finish this tiny space—actually I do: we live in the middle of nowhere & contractors are stretched thin), but now it’s clean enough that I can work without getting mad about it.

I wasn’t sure if I’d share this scene from Baz’s POV or the Mage’s, since I wrote both. I have a growing fear that I’m going to be roasted when I post the full story because I mostly share cute bits and there’s a darker vein running through. It’s largely cute though, I swear! Anyway, I’m chickening out and just sharing the Baz POV today, only because I don’t really like my Mage’s voice right now. He needs some work :P

When Simon emerges from the Tower, he’s grinning from ear to ear like my worst nightmare come to life. He runs across the road toward me but just when I think he’s about to throw his arms around my neck, he halts and shoves his hands into his back pockets. “So,” he says, pushing at my foot with the toe of his shoe. “Snow-Pitch.”

I try unsuccessfully to hide a smile. “Snow-Pitch,” I greet him in return, brushing a lock of golden hair from his forehead.

“Are we going home? Where’s your dad gone to?”

“To kick rocks.” Simon laughs but then glances around nervously. “Don’t worry, he’ll find his own way home. I thought I might buy you lunch.”

Snow perks up. “Lunch?” he repeats hopefully.

“Yes, you bottomless pit. One of what most people consider to be a three-meal-a-day regimen. For you I imagine it merely follows second breakfast and elevenses. And precedes afternoon tea, dinner, and supper.”

“You don’t have to be mean.” He’s smiling, though.

“I’m not being mean, I’m trying to feed you. Now, what do you want?”

Simon’s smile grows wider. It’s all I can do not to attack. Hassling his curls with one hand, he takes mine in the other, squeezes it, and looks me in the eye. “Everything,” he says.

oh i should probably do a life update outside of i watch silly cannibal crime drama now, huh?

welp let’s see i…. went to a music video premiere (meat & greet by ice nine kills), didn’t finish student teaching so i’m redoing that, passed the first half of a big test i have to take while student teaching, no longer play dnd after being kicked from the campaigns i was in because of some friendship drama (more on that; if i can do a cut on mobile it’ll be below that. if not it’ll be like by a * down towards the bottom of the page), lost two friends the night before i reached 7 yrs clean from self-harm, reached 7 yrs clean from self-harm, was an extra in another music video (oh yeah don’t think i’ve really mentioned that here but that’s a new thing i’ve started doing when i can. got a taste of being an extra for a photoshoot for an ink merch drop, specifically their july nightmare on the ninth after nadia tweeted out about needing some people. pics and vids myself and other friends are in never saw the light of day cause there was an incident involving a shooting and a theater that happened like 2 days before the teasers were going up and the shoot was us being “dead” in a movie theater…), and that’s about it i think?

hopefully this works so anyway the drama/how i lost 2 friends the night before i was 7 yrs clean. So what happened was I’d taken a day trip after having a change of plans happen. Phone was almost dead so I put it in airplane mode as one does until I get home. I plug it in and take it off airplane mode only to find a wall of text from my now ex-dm (going to be calling him J from here on out). What the message boiled down to is J felt used as an outlet (which I was always open about dnd being an outlet for me), felt I wasn’t respectful of his time since I was five minutes late to a meeting with him and I somehow have time to party but no time to meet with him to plan something (reader I have never been to a party in my life, so I to this day have no idea where that claim comes from), I was passive aggressive towards other players (especially his new gf, calling her C) but didn’t provide evidence outside of one remark I made where I was out of line but it came from a place of annoyance, that I was a bad friend to one of our mutual friends (going to be calling her M), citing a tweet from my private twitter/vent twitter where I vented about being dropped/ghosted by a friend as soon as they start dating someone. He DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO BUT M DOES. And that I played with her feelings knowing that she liked me as more than a friend. Reader, I once again was never made aware of M’s romantic feelings towards me. I knew M was bi and that’s it. M knew I was aroace. He also thought 2 weeks was enough for things to get back to normal for me as if I wasn’t in a constant state of fight or flight and being beyond stressed for 11 weeks prior and was disappointed that nothing had changed.

He blocks me and I can’t defend myself, so I screenshot the message and send it to M. I wanted to hear M’s thoughts on the things said about her/that claim to be coming from her. I’d talked to M previously about feeling abandoned after she befriended C and started dating her now-ex boyfriend. We talked it out and I thought it was fine and handled. I thought we were fine. M had distanced herself again after the breakup with her now ex, so I gave her space, thinking that’s what she wanted. She didn’t talk to me and after a few attempts at reaching out and either getting ignored or very short answers, I stopped. To me those were signs she didn’t want to engage with me so I left her alone.

It apparently wasn’t handled. M told J I was being a bad friend because I ghosted her and wasn’t there for her and abandoned her. Which is what she did to me…. She took what she did to me and spun it to J. She took what I told her I was feeling and told J I was the one making her feel like that. Do I know why? Nope. And when it came to feelings, she apparently had a crush on me for about 8 months of our nearly year long friendship. M only stopped crushing on me as soon as she realized “you [me] were/are straight.” Reader, I never once said I was anything other than aroace and simp for male celebs/characters. M also said she only distanced herself after befriending C and dating her now ex because she felt she was treating me like a girlfriend. All we did was send good morning and good night messages and text/message each other a lot.

So yeah… two friendships up in flames because someone couldn’t be bothered to communicate their feelings to me and because they couldn’t tell someone else the truth. And M gets to keep all of our dnd friends that I introduced her to… and I think that somehow hurts way more than the friendship breakup. I lost a hobby and an outlet because of some petty drama…

I am halfway through the fourth chapter of Mirrors, which is my 8th year canon divergent fic where Simon didn’t survive the white chapel, and after a few weeks Baz starts seeing him in the mirrors all over Watford.  Angst, unhinged levels of pining, etc etc.  Since I’m almost done with chapter four there is large possibility I’ll start posting soon.  (Waggles eyebrows)  You know, in case anyone wants to cry with me.

Anyway, I liked a lot of the dialogue from Chapter Four, so here’s a sweet little tidbit to remind you that WE ACKNOWLEDGE COFFIN TRAUMA IN THIS HOUSE.

“Baz, you alright?” he asks quietly.

“I’m fine, Snow.”

“Six weeks, Baz.  That’s such a long time.  One day would have been too much for me.  One hour, really, and I’d have been barking.  So how?  How could you be fine?”  His voice is unbearably gentle by the end.

“I …” I take a deep breath.  “The dark bothers me now and I do have nightmares. Less now.  But I’m not hurt, so you really don’t need to worry.”  The nightmares abated after the White Chapel, for obvious reasons.  Now it’s Snow that haunts my dreams.  Maybe I’m repressing it?  That would be pretty on brand for me, emotional repression.  I wonder when the wound will re-open.

“Baz.”

“Hmm?”

“I can’t kiss you.  Or hold you.  But I need you to know I’d be doing both if I could.”  

I laugh faintly, blinking away the tears in my eyes.  When I put my forehead back against the glass, he follows.
