Finally watched Multiverse of Madness because I wanted to see horror-MCU movie doing multiverse surrealism.
Instead...wow, there's a lot going on. Lot of worldbuilding stuff and casting choices, lot of plot choices (and making it nearly incomprehensible if you didn't see Wandavision//making it groan over the amount of stuff you're expexted to have watched), and by god is there some special effects happening.
Was so looking forward to it - like one of the last two things I was planning on seeing from MCU going forward, other than S2 of Loki - and instead I just finally gave up on it halfway in.

Well, I wasn’t expecting much with Marauders 16, and somehow I was still disappointed.  For one, I thought we’d at least see Iceman and Pyro in the background in some kind of group meeting, when Emma and Kate told them about what happened.  I guess two members of the Marauders team don’t even get to know that a member of the Council has been plotting against them?  You’d think that would be valuable information, so they’d know not to trust Sebastian (or anyone associated with him), but no, let’s keep them in the dark.  At least Bishop knows, and got to speak in this issue.  (It wasn’t much, but it was something.)  Iceman and Pyro have now gone three issues straight with no dialogue (6 issues if you count X of Swords, but I’ll be generous since that was an editor-mandated cross-over).  That’s kinda pathetic for a “team book.”
I might feel better about this if I knew that Duggan was just focusing on the “Emma and Kitty” arc, and that the next story arc will have an equally tight focus on Bishop, Iceman, Pyro and Storm, and will go on for a good 12 issues of them in the spotlight.  But given the writing so far, I’m not confident.  I’m just crossing my fingers that the covers for up-coming issues (which seem to indicate a Storm and Callisto story, and an Iceman and Pyro story is coming up) are not total lies.  Last time I thought I was gonna get a Bishop and Pyro story, based on a cover with them appearing to square off against Callisto, I got an issue in which they barely interacted at all, and Pyro had one line before he was told to pilot the boat back to Krakoa.
But as for the issue itself......we got an entire issue of Emma and Kitty taking revenge.  We had a whole issue of Kitty’s death and funeral, a whole issue of her resurrection party, and now an entire issue that’s just her and Emma beating up Shaw.  And don’t get me wrong, I like Kitty.  I get that she’s basically the main character of the series.  But did we really need three entire issues in which the other “main characters” are basically wall paper?  And the “fight” itself was just a drawn-out beat-down.  Are we really supposed to feel triumphant at Emma and Kitty taking out a villain who poses no threat to them the entire issue?  There no suspense, no indication that Shaw could potentially fight back, or had an extra trick up his sleeve.  Kitty is even able to hurt him before Emma takes his powers, which shouldn’t be possible.  And Sebastian surely must have suspected that they would come for him.  Emma hates him, and he had that awkward moment with Kitty at the party that seemed to indicate that she knew.  Why would a man who is supposed to be a cunning strategist sit in his castle all alone with no security precautions, no tricks up his sleeve, nothing to offer?  Sebastian wasn’t just pathetic, he was unforgivably stupid.  And it doesn’t really feel like a real victory for Kitty and Emma, because their opponent put up no real resistance at all.
Basically, this was the kind of self-indulgent favoritism that I’d expect from fan-fic.  And that’s not even a slam on fan-fic, which is basically meant for self-indulgence.  But this is a professional comics writer who very very obviously loves Kitty and Emma above all other characters, and he’s going to dedicate as much of the story as possible to them being cool and badass.  And that’s not how you write a team book.
Sorry, followers.  I had high hopes for this series, and I’ve gotten increasingly bitter as it became obvious that the comic is basically “The Adventures of Kitty and Emma,” with the other cast members acting as special guest stars if they are very lucky.  I’m sure there are some people out there loving this book, and that’s totally valid.  I don’t mean to rain on your parade.  But I’m pretty fed up.  I’m still going to read it on the off-chance that Shinobi, Christian, Bishop, Iceman or Pyro actually get a real storyline, but I’m not holding my breath.  (I’d say Storm, too, but she thankfully just got spotlight time during X of Swords).

Homefront Hero
Tumblr media
Written for: @star-spangled-bingo 2021!  (& All Caps Flash Bingo!)   *Crossover Fic*  Words: 1161 All Caps Flash Square Filled: Crossover  Pairing: No pairing, general fic! Cast Of Characters: Steve Rogers & Molly McIntire Warnings: None, E for everyone!   Summary: Nine-Year-Old Molly McIntire and her friends are excited for the town’s “Helping From the Homefront.” event. Molly will be performing a special tap solo and the one and Only Captain America is coming to town. Molly wonders if she’ll get a chance to meet the famous Captain since she’s performing in the show with him.
Tumblr media
The town of Jefferson, Illinois was deck out in stars and stripes from nearly every visible street corner. The town council had wanted everyone to display their most patriotic decorations as part of an event happing that weekend, “Helping From the Homefront.” The event was going to showcase all of the different ways people could contribute to the war effort from home.
There would be exhibitions on things like the best way to start a victory garden and cooking recipes with substitutions for rationed items. What had most of the town really jazzed up was the War Bond rally that was supposed to kick off on Saturday morning. While intended as a way to encourage folks to buy war bonds the rally would also feature entertainment. Something that had been in short supply since the war had started.
No one was more excited for the rally than nine-year-old Molly McIntire. Not only was Molly getting to perform a tap solo at the rally with the rest of her dance school. The special guest coming to town wasn’t a movie star like Melody Moore or a local radio host giving a speech. Instead, it was Captain America! Molly had been seeing clips of Captain America traveling the country selling war bonds during the news reels before movies at the cinema for months. She never dreamed that Jefferson would be lucky enough to host him.
“Molly, do you think you’ll get to meet Captain America since you’ll be dancing in the show?” One of Molly’s very best friend’s, Susan, asked. The two girls were walking with their other best friend Linda. They were on their way home from tap rehearsal, their last one before the rally.
“We’re all dancing in the show.” Linda reminded Susan.
“I know, but Molly’s the star!” Susan exclaimed.
“I don’t know, but I asked Jill to help me curl my hair just in case!” Jill was Molly’s older sister and though they didn’t always get along, even Jill couldn’t deny that Captain America was a dreamboat.
“Excuse me, girls.” Molly, Linda and Susan had been so busy chatting about Captain America’s visit they did notice a man approaching them from the other end of the street. They’d nearly collided with him before he said something.
“Sorry!” All three girls apologized.
“It’s alright.” The man assured them. He was wearing a plaid blue and brown button up shirt tucked into a pair of tan slacks. There was something familiar about him, but Molly couldn’t quite place it. “We you girl’s talking about Captain America?”
“Yes.” Lind confessed. “We’re all terribly excited that he’s coming.”
“I imagine you are. He seems like a swell fella.” The man seemed to laugh at a joke only he would understand. “Say I’m new to town and pretty turned around here. Any chance you could point me in the direction of…” He paused to glance down at a slip of paper in his hands. “467 Oak Street?” The Three girls exchanged a look.
“Molly isn’t that your…” Susan began to ask but Molly shushed her.
“Why do you need directions to there?” Molly asked, trying her best to sound inquisitive and not huffy.
“I’m here as part of the War Bonds rally.” The man explained. “There were some last-minute changes to our accommodations and a few of us are spending the weekend with host families who were kind enough to put us up. That’ the address of mine.”
“We can show you the way.” Molly volunteered. “That’s my address.”
“Well, that’s mighty lucky for me then.” The man smiled.
“I’m Molly, that’s Linda, and Susan.” She introduced.
“You can call me Steve.” He told her.
“Nice to meet you Steve.” Molly smiled. They began walking again towards Molly’s house.
“Steve, what do you do at War Bond rallies?” Linda asked.
“Have you met Captain America?” Susan questioned.
“I do lots of different things.” Steve shrugged. “Mostly I give speeches about why the war bonds are important. I’ve met Captain America once or twice.” He smirked.
“Really?” All three girls exclaimed as they turned onto Oak Street.
“What’s he like?” Molly wanted to know.
“Same as everybody else.” Steve insisted.
“There’s no way.” Susan disagreed. “Captain America is really strong!”
“Well, here we are.” Molly announced as they reached her address. “Everyone wait here, I’ll go get Mom.”
Molly entered the house to find her Mom had already gathered everyone else in the living room. Jill was sitting on the couch with their five-year-old brother Brad. Their fifteen-year-old brother Ricky was sitting beside them.
“Oh, good! Molly, you’re home.” Mom smiled when she spotted Molly. “You’re just in time to hear my big announcement. Apparently, there was a problem at the hotel some of the folks were staying in and so they asked for volunteers for a few of the people in down to hosts our guests.”
“I know.” Molly told her. “I’ve met ours already!”
“You have? How?” Mom asked.
“He was lost and happened to run into Susan, Linda and me.” Molly explained. “He’s waiting outside.”
“Outside?” Mom repeated already walking toward the front door. Sure enough there was a Blonde man standing there, getting bombarded with questions from Linda and Susan. Girls!” Mrs. McIntire called out to Linda and Susan. “Why don’t you head on home. I’m sure your mothers are looking for you.”
“Yes Mrs. McIntire.” Linda and Susan agreed.
“Sorry about them.” Mrs. McIntire apologizes. “I’m Helen. Molly tells me you’re our new guest. Why don’t you come inside?”
“That’s me ma’am.” Steve nodded. He stepped inside at her invitation. “Sorry to be the cause of such trouble, Helen. I told them I’d be just as fine sleeping in a tent or under the stars, but they were pretty insistent about putting me up somewhere.”
“Well, we’re glad to have you…” Mom smiled.
“Sorry! Captain Steve Rogers Ma’am.” He introduced himself. “You can just call me Steve.”
“Say, you’re Captain America!” Ricky exclaimed, running over from the couch.
“No, he’s not,” Molly argued. “He just said his name is Steve.”
“Captain America’s real name Steve you idiot.” Ricky argued back.
“Ricky!” His mother scolded him. “Apologize to your sister.” Ricky mumbled a half-hearted apology to his sister as Jill walked over carrying Brad.
“I’m afraid your brother’s right, Miss Molly. I am Captain America.” Steve confessed. “Though, Mr. Ricky, I don’t appreciate your use of language. If it weren’t for Miss. Molly here, I’d still be lost and turned around somewhere. I owe her big time.”
Molly couldn’t believe it. She, Linda and Susan had been so preoccupied with hoping they might meet Captain America that they did even notice he’d been walking with them all along. She knew she’d have to remember everything that happened at dinner so that she could report it back in Linda and Susan in the morning. She was definitely going to start with the fact that Captain America said he owed her a favor.

It’s Not a Mockumentary: Christopher Guest’s Take on the Human Condition by Jill Blake
“It's like in a Hitchcock movie, you know, where they tie you up in a rubber bag and throw you in the trunk of a car. You find people.” – Corky St. Clair
In 1984, Rob Reiner collaborated with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer on the improvised THIS IS SPINAL TAP (currently streaming on FilmStruck and written about here). This comedic take on the documentary style of filmmaking introduced characters who possess an inflated sense of purpose and talent being thrown into situations they can’t possibly handle. Their arrogance is the result of their blissful ignorance to the fact that they’re just not very talented. A little over a decade later, Christopher Guest revisited this same format, this time as director and star, with his hilarious and underrated WAITING FOR GUFFMAN (’96).
The fictional town of Blaine, Missouri, is celebrating its sesquicentennial (that’s 150 years). As part of the many celebrations for the special occasion, the town council has asked the resident theatrical director, Corky St. Clair (Guest), to assemble a cast of local talent to tell the story and history of Blaine. St. Clair and his music director Lloyd Miller (Bob Balaban) hold auditions for their original production of “Red, White & Blaine,” with a wide range of talent from the old standbys, like Ron and Sheila Albertson (Fred Willard and Catherine O’Hara), who St. Clair refers to as the “Lunts of Blaine;” to the bubbly Dairy Queen employee Libby Mae Brown (Parker Posey); to acting newcomer and town dentist, Dr. Allan Pearl (played by Eugene Levy, who also co-wrote the story with Guest). While the cast members of “Red, White & Blaine” are charming, lovely people, they’re just not very good actors and singers. But their performances are enthusiastic and earnest, and you can’t help but root for them, especially when they believe that a Broadway producer, Mr. Guffman, has accepted St. Clair’s invitation to attend their opening night. All of the sudden, the members of St. Clair’s troupe, the Blaine Community Players, truly believe they have what it takes to make it to Broadway. It’s hysterical, but also quite endearing, as we truly care about these characters. We want them to succeed, even though we know it’s absolutely impossible.
Tumblr media
These characters are composites of average, middle-America folks. They’re people who are familiar to us. Or maybe they are us. Guest and co-writer Levy meticulously crafted a story that gently laughs at these realistic caricatures without being mean-spirited. The stars of “Red, White & Blaine” have set their sights for Hollywood and other various centers of entertainment around the country. We all know they don’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell of making it in the industry, but we’re all rooting for them nonetheless. WAITING FOR GUFFMAN is as charming as it is funny, and it established a core set of actors, Guest’s own “Blaine Community Players,” if you will (except vastly more talented), that Guest continues to work with in various projects to this day.
Four years after the release of WAITING FOR GUFFMAN, Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy reteamed, writing the script (and by “script,” it’s really only an outline of the story and characters, as all dialogue is improvised by the actors) for the comedy, BEST IN SHOW (’00). Starring much of the cast from GUFFMAN, including Guest and Levy, Catharine O’Hara, Parker Posey, Michael Hitchcock, Fred Willard and Bob Balaban, BEST IN SHOW also features the talents of John Michael Higgins, Michael McKean, Ed Begley Jr., Jane Lynch and Jennifer Coolidge, among many others. Like GUFFMAN, we are introduced to a unique group of people who all have one thing in common. But instead of acting, we’re allowed a firsthand glimpse into the bizarre world of pure breed dog show competitions. These people live and breathe everything canine. Their dogs are their children, and like most parents, they believe their dog is the greatest in the world. We’re introduced to a small group of dog owners on their journey to the prestigious Mayflower Kennel Club Show, a national dog competition. Their fanaticism is obsessive and borderline psychotic (like Meg and Hamilton Swan [Posey and Hitchcock] having an emotional meltdown over the loss of their dog Beatrice’s favorite toy, Busy Bee), but like the members of the Blaine Community Players, these are truly likable characters.
Tumblr media
Guest and Levy wrote two more scripts along these same themes, including the delightful look at a folk music reunion featuring once-popular musical groups in A MIGHTY WIND (2003) and FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION (2006), a well-deserved satirical skewering of Hollywood and its cut-throat awards season. In the spirit of WAITING FOR GUFFMAN and BEST IN SHOW, both A MIGHTY WIND and FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION introduce us to strange and wonderful people, but unlike GUFFMAN, both of these films feature individuals who are incredibly talented, but underappreciated or past their prime. There’s an undercurrent of sadness in these two films, that isn’t as prevalent in Guest’s earlier work. We want these characters to succeed, like Marilyn Hack’s (O’Hara) big acting comeback and subsequent Oscar-nom buzz in FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION; or fall back in love, like singer-songwriters and former romantic partners, Mitch and Mickey (Levy and O’Hara) in A MIGHTY WIND. Of course, we all know it’s simply not meant to be.
Christopher Guest’s films are often referred to as “mockumentaries,” but over the years he’s made it clear that he doesn’t care for that term, as it implies that he is making mean-spirited fun of these characters, which couldn’t be further from the truth. These familiar characters are ordinary people who believe so strongly that they’re truly extraordinary and unique. Or perhaps they experienced a modicum of success at one point in their lives. In his films, Guest gives each of these characters their own moment to shine and allows the audience to sit-in on that moment. Maybe this gifted moment is the big break they’ve been waiting for all these years. But most likely, it’s not. They’ll continue living their lives as normal people, occasionally recalling the one time they were at the top with deep gratitude, fondness, and with a touch of wistful melancholy. Sounds a lot like real life, doesn’t it? And just like real life, Guest’s films are funny and ridiculous and heartwarming.

A School of Stars!!! Time to go back to class... or in Kyuranger's case, HALF of its members actually attends one! NOTE: This recap-view could have been released much sooner. In fact, I had planned to publish it several days earlier, since the show didn't air last Sunday. But as always, my health got in the way that I simply couldn't finish this piece until... just now. My body and bad weathers are definitely at odds with each other... T_T
- "Uchu Sentai Kyuranger: High School Wars" is a spin-off from the recently released "Episode of Stinger" V-Cinema bluray. This web-series is made available on TOEI Tokusatsu Fan Club app on September 9th, 2017, and will be concluded by a special 5th episode to be released on DVD. Technically, both "High School Wars" and "Episode of Stinger" CAN be regarded as unofficial 49th and 50th episode (though the latter alone has the duration of more). - If we put all currently available "High School Wars" episodes into one, it serves as a full 22.42 minutes feature, which is the average length of a weekly broadcast. Episode 1 (including opening, excluding credits and preview) is 5.12 minutes, Episode 2 is 05.40, Episode 3 is 6.20, and Episode 4 is 5.30 minutes. - Each episodes for "High School Wars" is called 'Period'. In chronological order, they can be generally translated as "Morning Assembly" (Chourei) , "Art Class" (Bijutsu), "Science Class" (Rika), "Physical Education" (Taiiku), and "Suplementary Exam" (Suishi). - For the record, this recap-view does not cover the last one, because as far as I know, it's not released yet (nor has an official release date). It might however, plays out in parallel to the "Episode of Stinger" storyline. FYI, the plot of its first 4 episodes bleeds directly to that V-Cinema story. A direct prologue, if you will. Anyway, I'll be recap-viewing these 4 available episodes separately below (in the style of my take on "Kamen Rider Build"). Read on...
01 - "Commander's Mischief"
- Rebellions sans Tsurugi, receive an undercover mission by Commander Xiao. Their destination is Planet 3B (TV-Nihon, to which this review is based, fansubbed it as such, eventhough other outlets called it as 'Sleeby' or 'Sleevy') of the Norma System. Jark Matter has installed their largest education facility, obviously using one to brainwash people to be their minions. Our Away Team is sent to inflitrate and defeat its Malistrate. - The name of this planet is clearly a shoutout to actor Tetsuya Takeda's popular drama series "3-nen B-gumi Kinpachi-sensei". Raptor even mimics the gesture of Takeda's character when she utters its name. This is a well-known and popularly used gag in Japanese entertainment. Pretty much most if not all parody shows have included nods to this long-running show. - Best part of this episode, is when an unusually giddy Xiao practically spills the bean about one important thing: that the Kyulette system is rigged. As it turns out, he's been hiding the Kyu Globes of several members to ensure the outcome for the rest! And Raptor says, that it's NOT the first time. LOL. Even better, he claims that it's due to "conditions to production", a statement that sounds 'odd' to the others, but works so darn well as a brilliant joke to us audience. I've said before, how Xiao is parroting like a TOEI executive or producer. This is yet another very meta-joke that reinforces that notion! Also, do you notice that the first selected Away Team consists of all suit-characters and not the human ones? There's this unconfirmed fact that it's considerably cheaper to use voice + suit actors instead of the young talents. Hence... productional conditions. LOL. - As much as I would love to see the entire cast wearing school uniforms (Raptor has prepared for ALL of them, Garu's in particular looks Yankee-cool), Kyulette actually ends up choosing all the human cast. Human-looking one of course, if we factor the case of Stinger. All dressed up to portray different kind of student stereotypes, the Away Team heads to Planet 3B. While at the same time, Xiao needs to do some explaining to Champ, Garu, and Balance. - By the way, Raptor's comment that it would be nice to wear uniform, could be a neat callback to when her voice actress dressed up as a maid in one of Go-kaiger's episode. Notice that she's wearing Spada's chef-hat while saying this? So sweet. And Balance's concern about Naga and brainwashing is certainly a jab to his Dark-Naga arc. Lucky's outfit and the high school angle in general, in a way serves as a homage to "Denji Sentai Megaranger" as well. Don't forget, it was the first season/series that aired on 07.30 JST, while Kyuranger is the last to air on the schedule.
Comment: This was undeniably my favorite episode of these web-series. Not just because every members are onboard, but the jokes were simply spot-on, and I just love all those the minor details included here. Especially that brilliant nod to "Kinpachi-sensei" that I didn't catch on my first viewing.
02 - "How Great Thou Art"
- Our Away Team arrives on the facility, and the web-series' face-slapping running gag starts here. Each time the school bell rings, the boys instantly get brainwashed. Lucky becomes lazy, Stinger is all smiley and giggly, Naga is twitching, Spada mopes like a fish, and Kotarou looks... high. Yikes! That's disturbing to see. Hammy is luckily wearing a headset (appropriately in green), most likely listening to Hoshi Minato's song. Thus she gets the privilege to... ugh, slap the others back to their senses. - Their first 'enemy' is Student Council President Indaver, voiced by... *drumrolls* Yousuke Itou, who is none other than Deka Green Sen-chan himself! This is his second participation in Kyuranger, following that minor guest appearance in the "Space Squad" crossover episode. The Indaver points out Naga's silver hair and Hammy as violation to the all-boys school. He challenges the team for a three-rounds duel. - Subject is... ART. Lucky wins the first, eventhough his painting doesn't resemble like the model. Spada loses the second, but he most definitely wins the joke of the day by drawing a delectable fruit parfait as his rendition of a basket of fruits. His chef jokes, smooth catchy foreign phrases, and dandy mannerism never ceases to amaze me. "Originality is vital in cooking!", he says. LOL. Naga is up to do the last task, and it has the most challenging model: the idol Hoshi Minato! Turning this episode into a small "Magiranger vs Dekaranger" flick. - Of course, the final duel's result plays for laughs, as Minato chooses Naga's more gorgeous shoujo-manga rendition as the result, compared to Council President's more realistic one. Angry about this, Council President tries to attack Naga, but Minato hands him the #59 Pictor Kyu Globe to... paint the Indaver's defeat. Ouch! Minato then leaves the room by repeatedly saying "THANK YOU"... or "SAN-KYU" in Japanese. Get it? 3-9? :D - Minato's appearance is nice and all, considering he's underused in the TV series. Unfortunately, it also serves as the most problematic aspect of this web-series. Particularly, in 'WHEN' this series take place. As I said on the extra note for episode 35, Hoshi still has the creepy puppet on his shoulder here. The general assumption is that he's still under the influence of Don Armage. Am I right? But why does he hand out a Kyu Globe then? It does NOT make sense. This action implies that Minato's already a supporter for the Kyuranger, because he's been rallying against Jark Matter since episode 36. Then again, it contradicts the fact that he can even walk freely into this school! Why would Jark Matter let him in if he's supporting the Rebellion, right? - The easiest way to address this, is by ignoring two things: First, the puppet's significance. Hoshi clearly has ditched it ever since he was freed from control, so let's just assume he put it back in as... I don't know, random accessory? Second, Hammy's odd reaction, as if she hasn't met Hoshi before inspite of the aftermath of Pavo's Got Talent. Let's just assume she's fangirling or something. These two measures will allow this spin-off to take place AFTER episode 35, so it makes more sense. Probably not BEFORE episode 36 though... because well, let's just say, the ending of "Episode of Stinger" will contradict this even further. Does that sound confusing? Oh well, let's just proceed to the next period for now...
Comment: In general, it's a fun episode with both Spada and Naga being the episode's MVP. Not to mention, that brief yaoi slur between Magi Yellow and Ophiucus Silver would make their respective fans glee in fangasmic joy. Unfortunately, as I've pointed out above, it's also a major flaw in design. Placing this web-series in the continuity have become... conflicting, all thanks to this one episode. Such a big shame, because the show has been VERY good at keeping things in check prior to this.
03 - "The 88 Quiz"
- Spada and Kotarou discover that they are all trapped inside the classroom. The only way to get out, is by defeating the next 'enemy' that comes walking in. Oh, yes... there's that face-slapping bit again. Yeesh, this gag gets tired REALLY FAST. - Next subject that our Away Team needs to overcome... is Science. In charge of this subject, is the female Vice Principal Indaver, who apparently is the mother of the Student Council President. This one isn't voiced by a Super Sentai alumn, but by Sakura Miyajima from Project R. who... is also a Super Sentai Super-Fan. Duh? - And the new task involves... massive information dump! This is the infamous episode that basically confirms ALL entries of the 88 Kyu Globes. Yes, the listing has been kept wrapped as a tight mystery ever since the show started, yet this one decides to blatantly ignore that restriction and unveils all of them in one strike. Thus, we get a detail Constellation Systems shoutout from #01 Leo until #88 Puppis (Argo Navis and the special ones are not included). LOL. By the way, did you know that the naming is deliberately done in Japanese and not Latin, to avoid similarity to "Saint Seiya"? Tom Constantine of The Tokusatsu Network recently shared this enlightening fact. - What strikes me as peculiar here... is that Tsurugi hasn't been around or even mentioned thus far. Even during this Constellation quiz, Phoenix isn't referenced to him, eventhough Hammy clearly points out the Argo components. It gives off another conflicting impression, that this web-series takes place before Tsurugi's debut in episode 21. I might be reading too much on this, but what if... the web-series was filmed before Tsurugi's actor join the team? On the other hand, Naga's emotion clearly indicates that it at least takes place after episode 31. See? Contradictory indeed! - Anyway, Kotarou gets to be the focus of this episode, because the final 4 missing Constellations relies heavily on his educational background. As in, only those who goes to school SHOULD know them. Hmmmm... really? I'd argue that's not entirely accurate (you'll see why... on the next part), but... let's just play along. - Vice Principal is defeated, hence the big baddie shows up to confront our team. Not only Principal Indaver is the wife of Vice Principal and naturally father of Student Council, and the Malistrate of Planet 3B, but he's also voiced by Yousuke Itou. "There are logistical reasons for why our faces are the same", he says, practically screaming "budgetary limitations" to our ears. His spotlight is saved for the next episode, as a seventh Kyuranger member joins in... simply because his inclusion will be necessary. How so? Read on...
Comment: Biggest highlight from this episode, is undeniably the complete listing to EVERY Kyu Globes. Whether the ones that have been used, or haven't in any form of the series (TV, V-Cinemas, Summer Movie, and/or random sweepstakes). Sadly, it came bringing another continuity issue, though not as massive as the previous one. It's enough to bother me to the bones though...
04 - "Useless Kyu Globes"
- We have arrived in the final part... considering the 5th episode is called 'Suplementary'. And things get... physical this time around. A Super Sentai episode needs to contain a fully-suited action sequence, as well as giant mecha battle. This is where we get both for "High School Wars". Well, one half of it, to be precise. - That 7th Kyuranger I mentioned above? Who else but Champ. But why is his inclusion (and not any other members) necessary? Because... he's the lead supporting character in "Episode of Stinger", being its lead protagonist's partner and all. For your information, this episode directly cuts to the V-Cinema, so Champ's presence is urgently required. So nope, he's not just there because Chamaeleon Green's slap-fest no longer in effect to cure the pesky brainwashing gag. - By the way, Champ arrives wearing a delinquent-style costume. Similar to the one worn by Gentarou of "Kamen Rider Fourze", or Jousuke in "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable". If only we can see the others in their cosplays too. - Those 4 supposedly school-related Constellations? The Kyurangers actually utilize their Kyu Globes in the battle against a kendo-based Principal Indaver, so it's time to talk about... why I have issues with them. I can give #49 Circinus and #46 Norma a pass, because compass (the mathematical tool, NOT one used for navigation... that's assigned to Pyxis) and ruler are used at school, eventhough Norma is specifically a Carpenter's Level. But #79 Sextans and #80 Octans? Both Sextant and Octant are navigational tools generally used for NAVAL exploration. How on Earth would Kotarou knew or even used them both at school?! He must have gone to a VERY advanced school if that's the case. Because even a guys as old as me have NEVER seen neither one directly with my own pair of eyes. - Apart from Norma, these Kyu Globes are practically... useless. The Away Team can't even use most of them. Norma somehow works because Leo Red is miraculously able to use it as a finishing move. I'd argue that being in the Norma System is the sole reason, hence it gets a spontaneous power up. But let's not be bothered by such useless details... - Our final special cameo appears, this time in person. Kouta!!! I mean... Kouhei Yamamoto a.k.a. Hurricane Yellow himself appears as the school's Chairman. Like most if not all cast members of "Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger" (and also "Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger", hence Sen-chan's participation), Yamamoto is well-known for his loyalty to Super Sentai franchise. He's one of the reason why we even had that "Hurricaneger 10 Years After" V-Cinema. So seeing him here doesn't feel remotely like a surprise. - This episode still has one final scene before it ends. Principal Indaver escapes the 'Ruler Attack', and jumps aboard his Consumarz to attack the Away Team. Kyuren-Oh is summoned, and... "TO BE CONTINUED". Wait, for real? Yep. The conclusion to this mecha battle *spoiler alert*, will be available as the opening scene for "Episode of Stinger". We even get an extended preview (featuring that amazing new song by Stinger's actor) for the V-Cinema as a quick reminder...
Comment: This final episode ended VERY annoyingly. That's the general complaints resonating throughout Kyuranger's fanbase. Along with one more thing: useless Kyu Globes. How could I counter that, when those arguments were mostly accurate? Strangely, this was an OKAY episode for me, and not as problematic as the 2nd and 3rd. That's why I'm giving it a mediocre score...
Overall: Overall, "High School Wars" has been a light, mostly clausthrophobic and/or secluded academic-themed gag, that gave the human actors the chance to cosplay as students. Of course, being a highly comedic distraction was not all that bad. Unfortunately, it also served the weakest link among Kyuranger's canon. That slapping-face gag was rather violent, especially when a minor such as Kotarou had to endure the same treatment. That's downright child abuse, right? And then there's that overlaying continuity problem, that made the writing felt... weak and sloppy in general. I'm not sure who wrote this, but if it's the same writer who worked on "Episode of Stinger"... then it sort of make sense (Kento Shimoyama's portofolio includes... "Shuriken Sentai Ninninger"! No wonder...). Sadly, as you would find out soon, this issue also affected that V-Cinema. It will make anyone to question whether both features actually connects to the TV series or not at all. An alternate universe take? As of writing, I'm STILL waiting anxiously for the official answer to this. There's a speculation that we'll be getting some actual closure and proper timeline explanation in that exclusive 5th episode. Tell you the truth though, I'm NOT so sure about that... Next: "Episode of Stinger"... what else? *grins* PS: Assuming I can get it done without any external (unexpected situations) nor internal (my health is still not in full prime) interferences, expect recap-view for Stinger's V-Cinema to arrive tomorrow. Or the day after. Also, this recap-view will not include the Overall Score for "High School Wars". That will be posted alongside review for Episode 5... IF and only IF I can see one, of course.
Episode 01 Score: 8 out of 10 Episode 02 Score: 6 out of 10 Episode 03 Score: 6,5 out of 10 Episode 04 Score: 7 out of 10

Regular Cast
Lucille Ball (Lucy Carmichael), Gale Gordon (Theodore J. Mooney), Mary Jane Croft (Mary Jane Lewis)
Roy Roberts (Mr. Cheever) does not appear in this episode.
Guest Cast
Tumblr media
Claude Akins (Lieutenant Finch) appeared as himself (playing a giant native) in “Desert Island” (ILL S6;E8). He is perhaps best remembered for playing Sheriff Lobo in “B.J. And the Bear” (1978-79) and its sequel “The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo” (1979-81). Akins died in 1994.
Tumblr media
Iris Adrian (Hard Head Hogan) appeared on Broadway in the 1930s and was a Ziegfeld girl. In Hollywood she did more than 160 films. This is her only appearance with Lucille Ball.
Hard Head is a bouncer in a beer hall. She is in jail for assault and battery.
Ken Lynch (Officer Peters, below left) started playing policemen on TV in 1950 and continued to do so for much of his career. This is his only appearance with Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
Joseph Perry (Officer Miller, above right) started his screen acting career in 1956. His final credit was playing Nemo for seven episodes of “Everybody Loves Raymond” in 1999. He died the following year. This is his only appearance with Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
Byron Foulger (Mr. Trindle) had played the leader of the Friends of the Friendless in “Lucy’s Last Birthday” (ILL S2;E25). He previously appeared on “The Lucy Show” in “My Fair Lucy” (S3;E20).
Mr. Trindle is the proprietor of the jewelry store that was robbed.
Tumblr media
Jody Gilbert (Matron aka ‘Tinkerbell’) had appeared with Lucille Ball and Gale Gordon on the 1952 special “Stars in the Eye” celebrating the opening of CBS's new Television City studios. She was a regular on the CBS series “Life With Luigi”. She will also appear in two episodes of “Here's Lucy,” in one of which she also plays a prison matron.
Tumblr media
Two passersby, the other women in the line-up, and the actual red-haired jewel thief (above) are all uncredited. Interestingly, Hazel Pierce, who was Lucy's stand-in and frequent day player, is not in this episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some video releases title this episode "A Case of Mistaken Identity." This is one of more than 30 episodes of “The Lucy Show” that have fallen out of copyright protection and are in the public domain, resulting in its appearance on many inexpensive video and DVD releases.
Tumblr media
There was no new “Lucy Show” episode on Monday, February 6, 1967. Instead, CBS showed a repeat of “Lucy Gets Caught Up in the Draft” (S5;E9).
Tumblr media
The final draft of the script was dated December 27, 1966. The above copy belonged to Julian Davidson, “The Lucy Show” music coordinator. The episode was filmed January 6, 1967, the first to be filmed after the holidays.
Tumblr media
This was the first and only episode written by Alan J. Levitt. It was also his first script for television. He went on to write for “Maude” (1972-74) and one of Lucille Ball's favorite sitcoms “Three's Company” (1977-78). Levitt shows a firm grasp of writing farce, balancing Lucy's belief that she has been arrested for littering, with the audience's knowledge that she is believed to be a jewel thief, using cleverly worded dialogue that allows both Lucy and police to have a conversation without giving away the misconception.
Tumblr media
Mary Jane tells Lucy that littering is against the “Keep America Beautiful” Campaign. Keep America Beautiful’ was founded in 1953 by a consortium of nonprofit organizations, government agencies, concerned individuals, and American businesses (including original “I Love Lucy” sponsor Philip Morris). ‘Keep America Beautiful’ joined with the Ad Council in 1961 to dramatize the idea that every individual must help protect against the effects litter has on the environment. These included the popular 1963 television campaign "Every Litter Bit Hurts" and the character ‘Susan Spotless’ in 1964. The organization is still active today.
Tumblr media
In order not to implicate her friend, Lucy tells the policemen that Mary Jane is the name of her cat. She says she likes to call the cat up and say “What's new, pussycat?” What's New Pussycat was the name of a hit film of 1965 written by Woody Allen. Its title song was nominated for an Oscar and was a big hit for Tom Jones.
Tumblr media
When thrown in the cell with a growling Hard Head, Lucy says she doesn't feel very welcome. The Matron remarks that “You're as welcome as the flowers in May.”  “Welcome as the Flowers in May” was a song written by Anne Young round 1903.
Trying to be tough, Lucy tells Hard Head Hogan her 'handle' is “Steel Knuckles Carmichael” but her friends call her “Knuck.” Hogan continually gets the name wrong, calling her ‘Muck’ and ‘Cluck.’
Tumblr media
Mr. Trindle can't positively identify the jewel thief in a line up of red headed women. He says he didn't anticipate so many red heads. Lt. Finch replies “What did you figure on?  A bunch of Yul Brynners?”
Tumblr media
Yul Brynner (1920-85) was an actor known for his bald head. He was mentioned on “I Love Lucy” several times, generally comparing him with Fred, who was nearly bald himself. At the time of filming, Brynner had just been seen in The Return of the Magnificent Seven, a sequel to 1960's hit The Magnificent Seven, in which he also appeared.
Tumblr media
Finch says the women in the line up would make Ma Barker look like a camp fire girl. This is the second episode in a row to mention Ma Barker. Kate Barker (1873–1935) was the mother of several criminals who ran the Barker gang. She traveled with her sons during their criminal careers. Barker was also mentioned in “Lucy and the Great Bank Robbery” (S3;E5) and “Lucy Puts Main Street on the Map” (S5;E18). Ma Barker was parodied as Ma Parker in a 1970 episode of “Here’s Lucy” (above) played by Carole Cook.
Entering the action late in the episode to vouch for Lucy, Gale Gordon gets a smattering of entrance applause from the studio audience.
Callbacks!
Tumblr media
Although never incarcerated before, Lucy Carmichael's previous brushes with the law include: “Lucy and the Runaway Butterfly” (S1;E29), “Lucy is Her Own Lawyer” (S2;E23), “Lucy the Meter Maid” (S3;E7) and “Lucy Makes a Pinch” (S3;E8).
Tumblr media
Behind Bars! Lucy Ricardo was arrested and in jail in several episodes: “New Neighbors” (S1;E21) in New York City, “Tennessee Bound” (ILL S4;E14) in Bent Fork, and “Lucy Takes a Cruise To Havana” (1957) in Havana. Lucy also comes very close to going to jail in “Ricky and Fred art TV Fans” (ILL S2;E30) for stealing change from a cash register, and in “Paris at Last” (ILL S5;E18) for forging Francs!
Tumblr media
More Mistaken Identity! In “Ricky and Fred are TV Fans” (ILL S2;E30) Lucy Ricardo is mistaken for jewel thief ‘Sticky Fingers Sal’, and hauled down for questioning, just as Lucy Carmichael is here.
Fast Forward!
Tumblr media
Lucy Carter voluntarily goes to jail in a 1973 episode of “Here's Lucy” that also features Gale Gordon and Jody Gilbert as a Matron. This time her cellmate is Mumsie Westcott, played by Elsa Lanchester, who may (or may not) have been criminal hatchet murderess Eleanor Holmby when Lucy and Ethel go “Off to Florida” (ILL S6;E6).
Tumblr media
Lucy Carter also got her mug shot taken in “The Case of the Reckless Wheelchair Drive” (HL S5;E6). Again, she makes her ‘criminal face’ for the camera.
Tumblr media
Intentional mistaken identity is behind “Lucy Carter Meets Lucille Ball” (HL S6;E22) where a look-alike contest brings out several Lucy doppelgangers, including Lucille Ball herself!
Tumblr media
“Lucy Meets the Law” rates 4 Paper Hearts out of 5
Tumblr media
This woman looks a bit like Lucille Ball!  Also, the book’s former owner’s initials are “LR” - Lucy Ricardo!

Guest cast:
Scott Paulin as Reverend Josiah Kate Trotter as Effie Stokes Bernard Behrens as Inquisitor Holmes Diego Matamoros as Matthew David Brown as Elder Fraser Carolyn Dunn as Laura Grange Araby Lockhart as Elder Florence
Written by Janet MacLean, Larry B. Williams
Directed by Timothy Bond
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We start with a recap of the previous episode, a voice over by Jack. Then, back at the colony, Elder Florence watches as Effie folds up the quilt. In the barn, Elder Fraser tells Reverend Josiah he stopped at another colony and that they have grave concerns about this colony and Josiah's leadership, including his inability to choose a wife. The Reverend says his two choices have been taken from him. Fraser alludes to the fact that maybe a reverend from a different colony should take over.
Florence later tells Ryan that she wants to tell the reverend that she saw Sarah's quilt, being held by Effie. Ryan tells her they need to get the quilt from Effie, since it is evil. Florence agrees, but only if they give the quilt to the reverend.
Fraser again confronts the reverend, saying the other colony believe occult forces may be at work and questions the reverend giving his daughter away to be married to an outsider, Ryan.
Florence makes Ryan wait as she goes up to Effie's room, since men aren't allowed there. She finds the quilt, but is surprised by Effie. Florence says the reverend will decide who owns the quilt, but Effie pulls it away from her and tosses her out. She then lays down with the quilt and again dreams of the ball. In the dream, Florence is cutting the meat for the meal. She drops the serving fork and Effie picks it up, she then goads Florence with it and then stabs her in the eyes. Florence dies in the dream and in reality, having pulled her eyes from her head. Ryan tries to get to Effie, but other men stop him.
At Curious Goods, Micki and Jack are hurrying to leave. They are worried about Ryan, being alone at the colony and believing he is unaware the quilt is still there.
Back at the Penatite colony, Fraser tells Josiah that the council has sent an inquisitor to investigate Josiah's leadership of the colony. Josiah says they must make sure there are no incidences while the inquisitor is there. He is then informed at Elder Florence has died.
Laura finds Ryan and he says he must speak to her father. The others are blaming Ryan for the events that have been occurring  saying he has brought witchcraft to their home and seduced the reverend's daughter, as well. The reverend has Ryan brought to his office.
Once inside, Ryan wants to explain, but the reverend wants to question him, not the other way around. He orders Fraser to leave so he can be alone with Ryan. He says four have died since Ryan arrived and people believe it is witchcraft. Ryan agrees, but the reverend thinks he is mocking him. Ryan tells him about the quilt and the curse. Ryan tells him he believes Effie is the one in possession of the quilt. The reverend is suspicious and reluctant to believe Effie would be so evil. He says he has known Effie for years and Ryan for weeks and would choose to believe her over him. He sends Ryan away so he can decide what to do.
At dinner, the reverend addresses the group, talking about how his choices for a bride have both been taken from him. But he has asked another and she has said yes. He tells them he and Effie were wed in secret that afternoon. Ryan is shocked.
That night, Effie is pleased that her dream has finally come true. The reverend hopes he hasn't acted in haste, she assures him she is happy. She pulls the quilt out and places it over them in bed, telling him it will assure them of a dreamless sleep. Effie is hurt when Josiah chooses to go to sleep instead of being with her.
Once they are asleep, Effie is once again in her dream of a ball. She is dancing with Josiah, a knife in her hand, ready to kill him. As they twirl on the dance floor, she is shocked to find she is losing control of the dream. She is soon her plain self again and in a field with Josiah. He bends her backwards, snapping her spine, killing her. In reality, Josiah wakes up, having moved from the bed to the chair with the quilt, alone. On the bed lies Effie, dead.
Josiah takes Effie's body outside, wrapped in a different quilt. He hides her in the basement of his home.
Jack and Micki are stranded on the side of the road when there car breaks down. They are still many miles away from the colony. Micki hopes Jack talks to Ryan about coming back, but he says if Ryan wants to stay, they have to respect his wishes.
The next morning, Josiah lies to Ryan that he almost had the quilt, but that Effie took the quilt and fled the colony in the night. He says he is sorry. Ryan is skeptical.
Later, Josiah greets Inquisitor Holmes when he arrives to see just what has been going on at the colony and with the reverend's leadership. He tells Josiah he has much to answer for.
Ryan asks Laura if she is at all suspicious of her father marrying Effie to get the quilt. Laura is shocked that Ryan could think badly of her father and stomps off.
Matthew is talking with the inquisitor, telling him all their problems began when Ryan arrived. The inquisitor says it is their way to accept outsiders, as long as they agree to take vows to uphold their beliefs. Next, the inquisitor asks Josiah about the quilt that had been stolen from Sarah, a quilt that seems to be occult in design. Josiah lies and says Sarah told him the quilt wasn't really stolen, she had just misplaced it. The inquisitor is skeptical.
Ryan arrives later and apologizes to Laura. She accepts but before they can make up, Josiah arrives and lies to Ryan that the inquisitor has ordered Ryan's expulsion from the colony. He must leave at once and there is nothing the reverend can do. He takes Laura inside and shuts the door.
Ryan is packing when Laura arrives. She says she is sorry and she will write to him, often. Ryan tells her how special she is to him. Laura says their worlds are so far apart. Ryan begins to ask her to leave with him, but she says she can never leave. They put on brave faces and promise to never forget each other. They are about to share a kiss when Matthew comes in, telling Ryan the inquisitor wishes to see him, now. Laura hopes he can sway the man to let him stay. Josiah watches from his window as Ryan heads out.
The inquisitor is barely able to keep his eyes open as he works. Ryan arrives and sees the man having a nightmare, fighting someone in his dream. Ryan tries to awaken the man, but to no use. The inquisitor lifts  a letter opener and kills himself. Ryan pulls the weapon out as the other men come in and find him. The believe Ryan killed him and has been behind all the bad occurrences.
In his room, Josiah awakens and hides the quilt, having killed the old man in his dream.
Laura arrives and is told Ryan killed Inquisitor Holmes. Laura is shocked and Ryan is sure he is doomed, as he knows Josiah is behind all this. Micki and Jack finally arrive and see the commotion. Laura tells them what happened and Jack says this looks like a lynch mob.
Ryan claims innocence when Josiah accuses him of killing the inquisitor. Ryan says Josiah knows he didn't do it. Jack speaks up, but him and Micki are taken out of the room. Ryan appeals to the others, but Josiah scoffs. Ryan then tries to tell them about the cursed quilt, but only makes himself look more guilty. The reverend then sentences Ryan to death by fire. The men grab him and take him outside. Laura tells Micki and Jack what happened. Ryan then begs Laura to go find the quilt in her father's home. She rushes off.
Ryan is dragged to a pyre as men follow with lit torches. Laura searches her father's home. Ryan is tied to the post as a woman begins singing. The men wait, torches in hand. Micki yells at the reverend to stop this, but he won't listen. Jack says Josiah rigged this and killed the inquisitor and framed Ryan. Josiah tells Jack to be quiet or face the same punishment.
Laura arrives then, telling them to stop. She has a quilt covered in blood. She tells them the quilt was his, made by her mother. She found it wrapped around Effie's body. She scoops snow onto the fire as Ryan is untied from the post. Josiah denies it, but she tells the others to search under her father's house, they'll find Effie's body there. The men head off, no longer listening to Josiah's pleas to burn Ryan. He then jumps on a horse and heads off and Ryan and Laura jump in a carriage and follow him.
Josiah goes to the mill to use the quilt. Ryan and Laura arrive and find the door locked. Ryan tries to break it down. Josiah rushes to the top of the building and gets the quilt. Ryan breaks down the door and enters, Josiah telling him not to rush. He then sits with the quilt and begins to doze off. As he does, so does Ryan, but Ryan is able to grab the quilt and yank it away from the older man, breaking the dream before it can begin. The two then struggle.
As they struggle, Laura tells Ryan to let go. When he does, Josiah loses his balance and falls backward out the window to his death. As the others all arrive, Ryan and Laura come outside. He pulls the quilt off of Josiah's body and hands it to Jack. Laura looks sadly at her father's body and says "Thy will be done."
The next day, Ryan is saying good-bye to Laura. He says he can't stay, yet. He has too much work to do with Micki and Jack. He asks her to come with him, but she says she has to stay. She has things to do there. She says she has learned a lot from Ryan, a lot about love. Ryan wishes he hadn't come, but she says love is too rare to wish away. They hug and he heads off as Matthew joins her on the porch. She mouths "I love you" as Ryan drives away with Micki and Jack.
At the store, Ryan yawns and sits down, weary from the recent events. He soon dozes off. Micki comes in and sees him asleep. She picks up his hat and takes a quilt and covers him, smiling and wishing him sweet dreams. She heads upstairs. Within minutes, Ryan is jolted away by the sound of thunder. A nightmare, perhaps?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My thoughts:
A great wrap-up to the previous episode! Almost like a Friday the 13th: The Series movie!
We get a twist here, as the villain from the previous episode is quickly outdone by her prey, who then becomes the new villain. Great twist!
I also think it is ironic that Josiah becomes the bad guy due to Effie killing off the women he has chosen to be his bride. I mean he might have been strict, but it appears that the effects of the quilt and the deaths have pushed him over the edge.
Love how Effie thinks she is in control of the dream, unaware the Josiah has taken the quilt off of her and is using it himself. Quite a twist! And he kills her so brutally!
Also love how Ryan comes to his senses at the end, realizing he has responsibilities to Micki, Jack, the store and in getting the curse antiques back. And how Laura doesn't give up her life and beliefs just to follow him. They are truly at an uncross-able divide. I wonder, had Ryan's life not gone off-track eventually, would he have found his way back to Laura? And would it have been too late, as we see Matthew ready to step back in to her life at the end? Hmmm...
A quibble: If singing and music is shunned by the Penatites, why is the woman singing when Ryan is going to be executed? I mean they were all shocked when Laura was singing a lullaby to a horse, for cripe sake!
The end is cute, but odd. Why would Micki let him just stay asleep in that uncomfortable chair? Ah well.
Great two-parter, even if it is sad for Ryan at the end.
Next week: "Double Exposure"

Enstars: Dengeki Girl’s Style March 2017
[UPDATE 20/4/17] added links to Enstage ~Take your marks~ DVD/BD on Animate International
Released in February 2017.
Many thanks to Nhi for the scans!! She just finished translating Athletics event story. Check out her translations on Dreamwidth!
Switch decorates the cover of this issue, which also includes B2-sized poster of the cover illustration as a bonus (Yuri!!! on Ice on the other side). The magazine’s Valentine’s day special compiles sweets-themed cards from past events and gacha. There are also previews of recent events and gacha. I translated an interview with Kuro and Nazuna’s voice actors before they went live on Monthly Ensemble Studio in December 2016 (where all Knight Killers voice actors were present). Finally, I also summarized Ensemble Stars! on Stage ~Take your marks!~ Report (ie a summary of a summary).
Translations after the jump!
Monthly Ensemble Studio:
A direct interview with Kuro and Nazuna’s voice actors, Shin’ichiro Kamio and Yuki Yonai right before recording! (25 December 2016) This interview was also published in B’s-Log March 2017, released in January 2017.
How did you feel when you knew you’re participating as guests?
Kamio: Before, I participated in the public recording at KYOMAF [1], but that was an event, so there was a limit to the broadcasting time. I thought one day I wanted to participate in something where I don’t have to mind about the time as much. And I’m really grateful seeing it realized in 2016. Other than that, I’m so happy that everyone from Knight Killers is here!
Yonai: As for me, I’m the first guest from Ra*bits, so I’m bearing that responsibility. Also, Nazuna and Kuro are the top two most sensible people among the third years, so…
Kamio: In 3-B, we’re the only ones with conscience, aren’t we.
Yonai: Exactly! Today, I’m just hoping the two of us will be able to keep the king and the emperor in check. I’m looking forward to it.
Kamio: I think we’ll be alright? (Laugh)
Yonai: I don’t think so, though. (Laugh)
Today is Christmas. If you were to give Asanuma-san and Midorikawa-san presents, what would they be?
Yonai: I want to give Asanuma-san a planetarium. He writes scripts and the like, so I thought it would be nice if inspiration can well up while he looks at the planetarium.
Kamio: Then we’ll have Yonai-kun purchase a planetarium from the countryside for him.
Yonai: What? You mean the entire building?!
Kamio: Yeah. It’ll be so expensive here in the city, so we’ll get you to either buy the planetarium in the suburbs, or maybe renovate Asanuma-san’s home in secret (laugh).
Yonai: (Laugh) Then, for Midorikawa-san it would be tea…?
Kamio: Midorikawa-san can gulp down bitter tea with ease saying it’s delicious, so if that’s the case, we can probably get him coffee? Civet cat coffee (Luwak coffee), how about that? I want to give him something a bit unusual.
Yonai: As a surprise, huh?
Kamio: Yeah, that’s it. Other than that, if it’s something that suits him, I want to give him a whole field of flowers.
Yonai: Aah, I know what you mean!
Kamio: Purchase it from the countryside, alright? We can get it from my hometown, Hokkaido somewhere…maybe? (laugh)
Please tell us your Christmas memories!
Yonai: My birthday is on the 23rd of December, so it’s pretty much lumped together with Christmas. But yesterday, I participated in my agency’s reading theater, and all the performers and the audience celebrated my birthday. It was my first time experiencing the joy of celebrating it with everyone, and I was happy I got a job on Christmas Eve. I made a really wonderful memory.
Kamio: For me, spending Christmas with my family is the most memorable memory I have. I have older and younger sisters, and all three of us were born in January. So we would order cakes from the same shop on Christmas and three times in January.
Yonai: At home, we also prepare cakes for my birthday and Christmas separately.
Kamio: Kids won’t like it if their birthdays are lumped together with other things, huh (laugh).
Are there any characters you want them to be in the same unit as Kuro or Nazuna?
Kamio: I want to create the unit “The Tall Guyz”. Rei, Wataru, Adonis… also Midori. If you gather all the tall boys, Midori will be the only first-year, so I thought I wanted to see his troubled look (laugh).
Yonai: I want to make a unit with third-years who don’t call Nazuna “Nii-chan”. Like Kanata or Izumi. I want him to act together with those who are portrayed to be getting along with him.
What about excluding Kuro and Nazuna?
Kamio: Sakuma brothers and Aoi brothers, a brothers&brothers unit, maybe. Also, I want to see more temporary units. The first-years team up a lot, but I’d like the third years too. Please! (laugh)
Yonai: As for me, I want to see how it’ll turn out if the two from Valkyrie team up with different people.
Lastly, please give a message to all the fans out there!
Yonai: Soon, it’ll be two years since the game was released. The number of transfer students and idols are increasing little by little, and I feel this student life has become vibrant. I believe they will reveal more about every character’s charms, past, and relationships with other characters, so please look forward to it.
Kamio: I second the guy next to me (laugh). Everything about Enstars is dear to me, and I myself also find the game to be enjoyable, so I hope everyone can find their own way to enjoy and play it.
Yonai: I agree. We’re really having fun as transfer students ourselves, so let’s move forward from the same line of view!
Kamio: By the way, today’s the last day of the event! (laugh)
--(t/n)--
1. Monthly Ensemble Studio in September 2016 was held in Kyoto Animation and Manga Fair, a public event held in Kyoto. Voice actors of Leo, Mika, Sora, and Kuro (Shintaro Asanuma, Jun Oosuka, Kazutomi Yamamoto, and Kamio) made an appearance.
Ensemble Stars! on Stage ~Take your marks!~ Report
(Paraphrased) The plot was introduced by members of Ryuseitai, the first to appear on the stage. Right after Trickstar’s victory over Akatsuki, Eichi the student council president came back. Fine members showed their prowess and “publicly executed” UNDEAD. Trickstar, on the verge of disbanding, started to grow apart because of their different views. They sang an original song to express that, Wish upon a Stars. In other scenes, other units sang their unit songs. UNDEAD sang DESTRUCTION ROAD with “powerful dance moves”, Akatsuki sang Weaving Memories “utilising Japanese traditional umbrellas”, and 2wink sang Heart Prism Symmetry with “amazing synchronization”. In curtain call, the whole cast sang Singin’☆Shine! along with the audience.
There was also an event to promote Enstage BD/DVD release, and there was a talk segment with the stage actors. Apparently, without fail, before every performance they would do a group hug and shake hands with everyone. They would look at each other in the eye and motivate each other. But since Akira, Adonis’ actor wore thick foundation, everyone instead just gave him gentle pats on the back.
The second Enstage BD/DVD will be released on the 25th of May 2017. Pre-order at Animate (BD/DVD)/Animate International (BD/DVD) includes bonus of 2 bromides chosen at random. Early bird pre-order before 31st of March (oops D:) will give you special BD/DVD cover jacket with 6 different designs available, each design for each unit.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Albert Joseph Brown III (born June 4, 1968) is a three-time Grammy-nominated American R&B recording artist, actor, and record producer. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Leonia, New Jersey, and Mount Vernon, New York. During the late 1980s under the stage name Al B. Sure!, he was one of new jack swing’s most popular romantic singers and producers. He is best known for the role of himself in Yakety Yak, Take it Back, and Trash Talk.
Music career
Brown was a star football quarterback at Mount Vernon High School in New York, who rejected an athletic scholarship to the University of Iowa to pursue a music career. In 1987, Quincy Jones selected Brown as the first winner of the Sony Innovators Talent Search. Subsequently, Brown went on to work with Jones on several projects, most notably the platinum single “The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)” from Jones’ double-platinum-certified album Back on the Block. On this recording, Brown was one of a quartet with Barry White, El DeBarge, and James Ingram.
His debut album from 1988 album In Effect Mode, sold more than two million copies, topping the Billboard R&B chart for seven straight weeks. The album included the single “Nite and Day,” which topped the R&B chart and reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. He received numerous Grammy and American Music Award (AMA) nominations, and won an AMA for Best New R&B Artist. He also received several Soul Train Award nominations, and won the award for Best New Artist. He also won several New York Music Awards. In addition, his 900 phone line was third in generating revenue, following those for New Kids on the Block and Run-D.M.C.
As a writer and producer, Brown introduced the multi-platinum group Jodeci and teen R&B performer Tevin Campbell (also one of Quincy Jones’s former protégés), as well as Faith Evans, Dave Hollister, Case, and Usher (one best-selling artists in American history) to the music industry.
In 2009, Brown signed with Hidden Beach Recordings. His first single for the label, “I Love It (Papi Aye, Aye, Aye),” entered the Radio & Records Urban AC chart at No. 33 in one week. The album Honey, I’m Home was released on June 23, 2009.

Who Are You?
So, “This Year’s Girl” was great, and now we get a Freaky Friday story about Buffy and Faith. With Buffy in Faith’s body being caught by the police already, and pursued by the Council. I’m looking forward to seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar’s interpretation of Faith and Eliza Dushku’s of Buffy. It’s something new, and should be wonderful. 1. Faith is holding Joyce’s hand while Buffy is put into the ambulance. Police and paramedics are taking Buffy away, and Faith is going back into the house with Joyce. This WAS a lovely present from the Mayor - revenge and a shot at life, all in one go. 2. “Guest starring Kristine Sutherland.” “And Eliza Dushku as Buffy.” I like that. 3. Faith just made a rape joke. About… herself? Her body, anyway, even if Buffy is in it. Joyce is scandalized. 4. Faith is not used to hugs. And is very uncomfortable with heartfelt conversations. And wants a bath. So she’s having one. Getting used to Buffy’s body, I think. She looks… happy. Now she’s looking at herself in the mirror and making faces. “Why yes. I would be Buffy. May I help you? Buff-y. You can’t do that. It’s wrong! You can’t do that because it’s naughty. Because it’s wrong.” Her practicing her Buffy here is kind of wonderful. And terrifying. She’s a very broken person. 5. Buffy is in the hospital. They’re trying to hold her down and sedate her. “I have to go home. She’s with my mother!” And they’ve sedated her. 6. Willow and Tara are in Tara’s room, talking about Faith. Tara is hurt that Willow’s friends don’t know about her. “And I really want you o meet them. But I just… kinda like having something that’s just, you know, mine. Do you get that at all?” “Ido.” “I should check in with Giles. Get a situation update.” “I am, you know.” “What?” “Yours.” God, their smiles there. 7. Faith is getting dressed for a night out. Or to leave the country. She found Buffy’s passport. She’s taking money. Faith is going to go see Buffy’s friends at Giles’s house. She wants to take the lipstick she picked out before the fight, but when Joyce pointed it out she says to burn it. 8. Buffy’s in a cop car, and coming to. The cops are surprised. But the car is being ambushed by the Council team, which has loaded her into an armored car. 9. Faith is at Giless place. She doesn’t know Anya. “Well, she did all those crimes and now she’s being arrested. I guess that’s just regular justice.” 10. The Council team is a special operations team. They do wet works. Faith can’t stop laughing about Buffy being taken to England by the Council team. She’s also offended by Willow’s dislike for her. To the point of fantasizing about stabbing her in the gut repeatedly. 11. Anya is surprised that “Buffy” is fine with everything. Willow noticed something amiss. But Faith reassured her. Giles just brought up Adam, who Faith knows nothing about. Faith says she’s going to patrol, but she’s out dancing instead at the Bronze. Bouncing from guy to guy. She ran into Spike, who is offended. Now she’s insulting him in a very un-Buffy-like way. “You know why I really hate you, Summers?” “Because I’m a stuck up tight-ass with no sense of fun?” “Well… yeah, that covers a lot of it.” Wow, okay Sarah Michelle Gellar KNOWS Faith. And Faith just beat Spike more thoroughly than Buffy ever did. 12. Ah. There’s Adam. And the joy in the episode just all rushed out. He’s been thinking about vampires, and now he’s talking to vampires, in his terrible long-winded way that bores me to tears. He did rip a head off. That’s kinda cool. He wants to talk to the vampires about plans. 13. Buffy is talking to the Council people. Where Sarah Michelle Gellar has Faith’s attitude down, Eliza Dushku has Buffy’s VOICE. If I weren’t looking at the TV, I’d be wondering how Gellar was doing such a good impersonation of Dushku’s accent… it sounds like Buffy’s voice coming out of Faith’s vocal cords, and it’s uncanny. 14. The Council people deliver the package, and don’t care what’s inside. That… sort of backs up the Council being really bad at things. The other Council guy spat in Buffy’s face. 15. Willow and Tara just walked into the Bronze. Faith is encouraging a guy to chug beer, and Willow just introduced Tara to her. Faith is delighted with meeting someone new, but is also walking away. Tara is staring after Willow as she leaves. Faith is looking at Tara. She sees what’s going on, but is of course expressing it in a way that hurts. A lot. A whole lot. Wow, Faith is being awful. Willow spotted a vampire, and Faith isn’t on it as fast as Buffy would be. Tara’s about to start sobbing. Faith slayed the vampire.The girl the vampire was eating is thanking Faith, and Faith isn’t sure what to do with that emotionally. Willow’s walking Tara home. Willow just gave Faith the idea of visiting Riley. 16. The Council guys are going to try to sedate Buffy, but she caught the guy doing so. Threatened his life, but the other guys didn’t care. They do have discipline, I’ll give them that. They’re going with the contingency plan. Faith is visiting Riley. 17. Willow and Tara are at Tara’s room. Tara’s on the edge of tears. And… huh. Tara knows it’s not Buffy. From the way Willow has talked about her, I think. And the cruelty Faith showed. Also from magic. Buffy’s energy was fragmented. Willow is worried about hyenas. Willow is wearing a ring from Buffy. Tara is looking up a spell, and Willow and Tara are going to cast a spell. It’s astral projection, and Willow will need Tara’s protection. Willow trusts Tara. 18. Now Faith is dancing on Riley’s lap and kissing him, but Riley’s going to close the door. Faith saw that he’s hurt and wants to take him for a test drive. Faith is not good at playing Buffy in the bedroom, but Riley is sufficiently clueless to think she’s doing some sort of roleplay and to go to bed with her regardless. 19. Willow and Tara did their spell. It’s certainly having an effect. Willow fell down, and… I think had an orgasm? 20. Riley and Faith had sex. Riley: “I love you.” Faith is forcing Riley off her and freaking out. Very freaking out. “Who are you? What do you want from her?” Faith can’t handle actual tenderness at all. Ye gods, that girl is broken. Nothing is wrong and that’s the scariest thing in the world. 21. And Adam again. Blah blah blah. Extinguish life. Blah blah blah. You are my first. Blah blah blah. Now he’s making me miss the Master. And I think going to send the vampires into the sun. 22. Faith is leaving Riley’s room wearing one of his shirts. Forrest is talking to her. She says she doesn’t care what Forrest thinks, but she does, and he hurt her. 23. The Council people are getting ready to kill Buffy, but she got their gun and broke out of the chains. She’s trying to steal the car. Got it. She’s a terrible driver and has a heavy vehicle. The Council is bad at things. 24. Faith is at the airport, getting ready to leave the country. 25. Note to self to talk about magic penises in my episode summary. 26. Buffy got to Giles’s house safely. Giles is terrified. “I know what you’re going to say, and I…” “I’m Buffy.” “All right, I didn’t know what you were going to say.” Giles is funny. But he should have known. Willow and Tara are there and know about Buffy and Faith’s body switch. Tara and Willow made a replacement for Faith’s body switching device. Adam’s vampires have taken over a church and taken hostages. Buffy and Faith are both watching a report about it. Adam has actually been useful to the episode plot now! 27. The vampires are there to mock God. Riley and the Initiative are there now, and have taken over from the police. Faith also just arrived. “Don’t tell me what to do. I’m Buffy. I have to do this.” 28. Faith just went in. And is delivering one-liners. “You’re not going to kill these people.” “Why not?” “Because it’s wrong.” Buffy and Giles are on their way with the armored car. Giles is distracting the police while Buffy goes in. The vampires just started a fight with Faith inside. She staked one. The vampires found their fear again. One tackled Riley and is fighting him outside, but he threw it into the sunlight. Buffy saw him. Buffy staked a vampire that was beating Faith up, and now they’re fighting again. Buffy managed to hit the katra thingy and swap their bodies back, and now Faith is terrified and running like mad and Buffy is a little shattered. 29. Back at Riley’s room. Faith has escaped, and the Council guys have left town. Buffy knows Riley slept with Faith now, and is very hurt. Riley and Giles both missed it and Tara caught it and Buffy seems very aware of that. 30. Faith is in a truck bed, surrounded by wood, with a box, riding away to somewhere. Anywhere. Overall: I think I’m going to praise the episode, then complain about it, then praise it some more. It was good. No, you don’t get it. I mean it was REALLY GOOD. Not only did it have Tara and Willow being absolutely lovely, not only did it establish Tara’s competence and empathy and the glory that is her, not only… a dozen different not onlies. It was GOOD. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Eliza Dushku were amazing here, playing each other’s characters, though I feel a bit bad for Dushku missing out on a major point in her character’s development because she was busy being Buffy. The acting work was breathtaking, the writing a wonder. Two weaknesses: First, Adam was involved, and his presence in a scene just stopped the episode’s dramatic momentum dead. He’s just… boring. Constantly, incessantly boring. Long-winded speeches in this weird monotone that’s supposed to be both emotional and intimidating and fails at both those things. God, I hate him, and not with proper villain heat. No, he has X-Pac heat - I don’t want to see him get his ass kicked; I just don’t want to see him. Second, the magic penis. Sex with Buffy’s nice and proper and good Iowa heartland apple pie and mom pork-and-beans salute the flag yippee-ki-yay! boyfriend is what “saves” Faith here - what turns her toward helping people. Yes, there’s the scene before with the girl she saves, but that is badly undersold compared with Riley’s Magic Dong. It’s offensive and doesn’t stand scrutiny and even if proper guy-sex did save women Riley’s like a walking scoop of plain yogurt. Gods, I’m bored just writing about him. Those are HUGE problems for the episode to have, but it gets through them and comes out as one of the franchise’s best anyway on the strength of everything it has going for it. Kudos to Amber Benson and Sarah Michelle Gellar for their scene, by the way… Gellar channeled her character from Cruel Intentions there without PLAYING her character from Cruel Intentions, while Benson just… was hurt and beautiful and tough and brilliant. Good God, if television was this good more often...

Of democracy and freedom, for every human being in this place.We are the healer's accepting one and all. Accept for those of color as they are not human at all. A deception in words to have you believe we are all human beings. People of color are less than them always their plot and here it comes again.Women were not human as well you see just a mere useful device for them to breed.To see from the slaves eyes the lack of respect. A people given nothing who can't even vent.For us with darker skin a people of color who they always do in and that will be tomorrow. We are here by the will they had imposed. Shackled in chains against the wall.Now oh god, why do they come for me? I have given my life please explain to me! Murdering my children shooting them down, and now they come for me but your no where around. Black people, black people the movie will begin as this world will go back to where it begins... The freedom or rights are not here for me. The clouds of injustice are proof for me.Look out look out to what's soon to come.The man who is seated has just begun. Re call the Hitler Man who came out. And murder millions of gypsies serbs and Jews. They were not hesitate man people too. You cry out for help as the gun fire meets, your child. But no one's helps as we are the purge fauther....First and they came for the Arabs and Jews now they come for me and you. Just as they did for the Arabs and Jews. You are just a servant believing a promise they made to you. You never had one single right. Then you gave birth to too many and that's your plight. As long as you were few the story goes they can keep the plot going as time moves on. They fear your numbers and now it's time. You seed caused them fear and now you must go. they must do the deed to remove you all. Eugenics eugenics they screaming it now...Stop black folks from breeding abortion is now. OK within our community you see. To use as stem cells as this is what they do. Removal, removal they're caste calls out aloud. Get rid of the blacks before they fine out. The end DAnne Burley callers 1-718-508-9513 8 pm central time Upcoming guest Next Week Sophia Stewart the Mother of the Matrix She wrote the Matrix, Terminator and other great stories that became the movies you have enjoyed. Her mine in one step beyond as she truly understands the Matrix, I have many lawsuits filed and the courts have refused to allowed and or gagged as they refuse to do anything about all of the corruption and the very real issue of who was involved in WTC 911 and other cases as indeed terrorism is home-grown but inside the very real Matrix and Sophia will talk about this and her new books forthcoming. I shared with her my case and she replied with this; I think that looking back on this story there are some obvious lessons people miss because they are asleep. For instance, in order for God to support your trial, you had to be perfectly aligned with your purpose. Anybody claiming God's inspiration with impure motives will be destroyed. So some ideas concerning the larger success formula you applied are overlooked because the corporations have conditioned people in the matrix to only think about reality in terms of the false paradigm of money. When people hear your story they automatically think about money. Some things are so real their reality transcends money and this situation is one of them. I figured it out. It's like the two trees in genesis. One tree is real and the other, the tree of death and lies/false consciousness is unreal. Therefore preoccupation with it is a distraction. The business sector has caused people to prioritize everything based on money but money is simply the medium of exchange through which the matrix functions. However because the matrix world is man made it is not real; it is transient and is not the highest reality. In fact, everything made by God is the only thing that is real whether humans accept this fact or not. The tragedy is that your story if properly understood is REALER than money. The reason is that the story was given to you by God to inspire people to transform their consciousness and wake people up. Therefore, these stories are a part of the very fabric of the universe-they are organic living beings. They are made up of spiritual energies that can awaken the sleepwalkers and resurrect the living dead. Money cannot do that as these fake Hollywood actors demonstrate. Money is not redemptive. But your God-inspired stories are redemptive. People are missing these profound truths. It's ironic that these same man made systems and concepts that boast so much progress end up distracting and enslaving people from the true reality. It's right in front of their faces like the tree of life in the garden of Eden and they don't see it because they are eating from the tree of falsehood, lies and deception..... Listen to next week program and learn more about the Mother of the Matrix as are we in a very real one today!
