So today we’re doing Yoongi’s chart and my analysis of it. Let me make it clear right off the bat, that since I’m not a professional astrologer, some things may not match up, further since we’re not super sure of his birth time, it’ll definitely affect the reading. What I can be sure of is that I’ll do my best and I’m completely open to constructive criticism from you all!

Now lets get on with some basic stuff, for those who have not yet read the post with Namjoon’s moon analysis, I’ll again reiterate some principles of Vedic astrology! In the scenario that you’re still confused with all this jargon, feel free to reach out and I’ll be more than happy to help you out.

Starting out, we have to note that while western astrology is usually more advisory in nature, Vedic astrology’s main purpose is to predict. Also, we usually go a sign back from western astrology (24’ back to be more precise) in Vedic astrology, so according to that for example, if you’re a libra rising, you become a virgo rising in Vedic astrology and so on and so forth. All planets will also shift back a sign, so a Capricorn Mercury will become a Sagittarius Mercury.

Now let’s be aware that the chart may be a bit different, but given the main d1 (Lagna) chart remains the same for about 2 hours, let’s focus on that and the moon chart (rashi chart) for this reading. We can also just look at d9 for strength but not house placements as that can be time sensitive. So, we can take a two hour margin of time discrepancy and still predict accurately.

For this reading, we have taken 9th March 1993 as the day and 7:30am as the time of birth, with the location set to Daegu.

Since this is a general chart analysis, we shall be covering topics briefly and discussing the moon, ascendant and sun. For an in depth reading, do pick a smaller and focussed topic as we can honestly keep going on and on about a chart.

THIS READING WILL BE DONE IN SEVERAL 4 PARTS, FOLLOWING THE ASCENDANT, MOON, SUN AND MISCELLANEOUS.

Lets get started then-

Right off the bat, we can see that Yoongi is born into Pisces, with his ascendant at 10’35’, within the Nakshatra of Uttarabhadprada, within the 3rd quadrant or pada. He has venus situated in the lagna itself, in Pisces, thus exalted. His lagna lord, Jupiter, is in the 7th house, conjuct with the Moon, in the sign of virgo, where jupiter gains the upper hand despite mercury (lord of virgo) being enemies. The lord is directly aspected by mars in the fourth house. The lord of the birth Nakshatra is Saturn here, which sits in the 12th house, conjunct sun and mercury (dispositer of the ascendant lord). Lastly, moon, jupiter and rahu aspect the lagna of this chart. Of course there is so so much more here, but we’ve got a whole chart to cover!

Getting on with the reading, we firstly see that he’s born under Pisces lagna, this makes the native calm and collected, as well as fond of philosophy and psychology. What we often forget is, people born under Pisces are said to have been born under all the other signs in their past life, and cumulatively they use their skills and knowledge from those lives in their current one. Remember how on Bon Voyage trips and just about every RunBts, saga seems like the ‘dad’ of the bunch? cooking, cleaning, fixing stuff Joon broke, producing music and the stuff? And all those times that he is so very understanding of other? He doesn’t scold Jungkook, let alone anyone else? These are typical Pisces traits. They’re very domestic and understanding by nature, because they’ve been there before in a past life, and enjoy taking care of people.

The downside to this? They can be extremely manipulative if they want to be, they know exactly what to say, when to say, to whom to say and so on. They have an alarming grip on people’s emotions, and have a magnetic quality to them. Further, this is mostly an observation, you’ll often notice that most pisces natives are fond of alcohol (could be because they exist in a water sign? Could be because its the natural 12th house ruler of addictions too?)

Coming to the Nakshatra here, we have UttaraBhadrapada, the second last Nakshatra of the series. This Nakshatra is ruled by Saturn, and the presiding deity being Ananta or Ahir Budhyana, the deep ocean serpent in hindu mythology. The deity Ananta represents boundless expansion, be it of fortune, goodwill or knowledge. Ahir Budhyana, is a sattvic (sacred or untainted) form of lord Shiv, and resides at he bottom of the ocean. He represents the liberation from illusions and attainment of spiritual enlightenment and knowledge. The natives of this Nakshatra here embody these qualities of their deities. We see them as philanthropic and reserved beings, who enjoy learning about a variety of subjects and spirituality. Such people are extremely progressive in their thinking patterns, and often a magnetic pull like the deep ocean serpent has.

They’re extremely controlled and calculating in their approach, and think more than speak. This by no means is to say that they don’t speak, because such people are great orators by nature. They stand up for the underdogs and have a unique approach to topics. They are extremely interested in occult and metaphysical practices and theories. They however commonly don’t obtain higher education or do well in fields of fine arts, even their primary education is not something they excel at. (i once read that yoongi really likes reading about a variety of subjects, and also Paulo Coelho, definitely his UttaraBhadrapada here)

The bad side to this Nakshatra? They’re very critical and over-analyze everything and everyone. Sometimes, even unconsciously, they manipulate people to suit their needs and whims. They get side tracked too often and have difficulty focussing on one task at hand, often amounting to laziness in other people’s eyes, even if the native is extremely hardworking in reality. However when in comes to personal care, they tend to do things in a very half-hearted manner. These people are also prone to isolating themselves from others, especially when things get hard. Due to the sign falling in pisces here, people also tend to have many different mental burdens and disorders, which arise from their constant scatter-brained self and inability to make out between the spiritual and real realms.

They can also be heavy drinkers and abuse substances in such a Nakshatra, or enjoy partaking in occult practices while under influences. They might’ve also faced a very rough childhood with such a Nakshatra, neglected and misunderstood by people around him. The natives could also have moved away from their parents during their early adulthood for education or job purposes. Such people can have health issues like hemorrhoids, stomach ailments and hernias. Usually they lead a stable period full of health and success in the latter part of life, say about after 48 years(since the south node Ketu matures as 48).

Since Suga’s Nakshatra falls into the third pada or quadrant, its ruled by libra here. Libra here focusses on balance and cooperation. Such people may make a living working with other people, or in industries related to entertainment. They may make great debaters, and think excessively about what other think of them as. They’re very conscious of other’s opinion, even if they don’t show it, so we often find such people wearing extremely covered up and baggy clothes for example, or keeping a low profile. They may have a very practical and unbiased approach to most things in life. Such people are intensely into spiritual practices and often times fully devote themselves at hours at a time to worship of gods, angel or other beings. They may be the type to attract people very easily, or even be the kind to fall in love extremely easily.

The second placement we come to, is Venus in the first house, in Pisces. Venus here is naturally exalted (most powerful). Sure ill give you the generic explanation in a bit but, do you know which type of people usually have this placement? Actual saints and famed occultists. Sure many people within the entertainment industry too, but this placement can hands down be one of the most spiritual and divine placements of Venus in the chart. First ill go ahead and give the normal meaning and effect, and then lets dive into the crazy stuff (istg his chart is so goooood). Such people usually have really magnetic personalities, and given Venus is in Uttarabhadrapa, these are the people who you don’t notice at first, but then its like a whirlpool of being invested in them, as opposed to being in Revati Nakshatra (another Piscean nakshatra) which would be a more dramatic pull, based off an extroverted personality. These people can be very good looking, more feminine looking, could definitely look like their mothers with this position. Brilliant luck in fields of arts and entertainment and also genius level of creativity and talent. Here, people can have brilliant luck too, like god’s hand on their head kind. Accumulation of wealth and property can also be seen here.

Now onto the really fun stuff. These people are actually rarely concerned with someone’s exterior, because often times such people have such good intuition and spiritual powers (some are literally called mystics because of this), they can literally see through someone. For this reason, they actually don’t like associating with too many people, despite having a very charming personality. These are the kind of people that keep searching for ‘the one’. These people often give up everything and go ahead and become priests. The calling to god with such a placement is very strong. They also don’t like collecting too many material possessions, as they feel its redundancy in this very changing world. These people hold the few people they’re close to, very very tightly to themselves. These people also may have a very low sexual drive actually, (i know, I know, how can a strong Venus do this?) because an exalted Venus is about devotion to god, to one person, and leaving sensory pleasures behind in life. A debilitated Venus on the other hand (eg. Jungkook has one) might make someone very invested in worldly matters. These people are happy with being alone and single for a long time, they’re very satisfied with their own company. Such placements can make someone practice magick or astral projection too. (Venus in 12th sign of liberation, liberation from physical body)

Given that in this chart, Venus is his 3rd and 8th lord, we can make further deductions. Firstly, since 3rd lord is going 11 houses away, its an extremely auspicious placement here. Self made person, making wealth through communication, can also have very witty and intelligent responses to things. Since the third house also represents courage and valor, this can make someone very fearless and say whats on their mind bluntly. Since the 3rd house is part of the Kama Trikon houses (houses of desire), this going into the 1st house, which is a part of the Dharma Trikon houses (houses of morality), gives interesting results here. Firstly, such people are fiercely independent, and hate to be disrupted when there pursuing their goals and working towards them. They hate to take help from anyone, and as a result are extremely competent. secondly, such people have a moral high ground, to which they religiously abide. They’re extremely righteous and stand up for those who wouldn’t be able to for themselves. Since from here, it aspects the 7th house of agreements, such people are great at understanding and signing contracts for work.

Now with the 8th house, we have a bit of a conundrum here honestly. It belongs to 2 types of houses, the moksha trikona houses (houses of salvation) as well as the Dushtana houses (evil houses). While this placement isn’t all that bad, it isn’t he best either. firstly though, this is a placement where the native always wins over their enemies (8th lord 6 houses away from itself), be it enemies as in people, or simply obstacles in their life. This also confers a long lifespan to people, given that his 8th lord is also exalted here. However such people are prone to accidents, given that the 1st house is the body, 8th house is sudden events and the natural 8th ruler mars is a karka or signifactor of vehicles. Such people are also against organized forms of religions, since the Dushtana lord is sitting in a dharma house. The native is also extremely private and secretive given the 1st house of self has the 8th lord of secrets sitting in it. Since it also aspects the 7th house of other people, this person has that aura of mystery about them because of this. Such people are deeply critical in nature but can have extreme wisdom in cases of hidden objects or matters of the occult.

Now coming to his aspects. His Venus is aspected by moon, Jupiter and Rahu. The first two are benefic in nature and the latter is malefic. Moon-Venus and Jupiter-Venus are also mutually aspecting each other in pairs here. Moon here gives Venus the property of being constantly cynical of themselves regards to what others may perceive them as, given moon is emotion and the 7th house here is other people. Their thoughts here are deeply influenced by other people, they may always keep serving other people too, through acts of service. This also makes someone who falls in love very easily, but it is important to engage this person’s mind in a relationship, they just cant do without an emotional bond here. Since Moon also represents fame in a chart, this makes a person very famous, as they receive attention from many people, and people want to analyze them, and enjoy their work and presence.

Jupiter here, makes the person level headed and practical. The person wouldn’t be all touchy feely with people they like, because they would like to remain more in control of the situation here. They’d rather engage in a full blown debate with someone, than hold hands. This also makes them very worldly and teacher like, while also being attracted to very worldly people themselves.

Rahu’s aspect on the other hand, makes someone stand out in a crowd (Rahu signifies an outcast), they may have a rough and cold exterior due to this. They may also have had issues with body image (1st house is self), or mental health here. These people are enamored by all things foreign, and love exploring the other cultures. They may have issues identifying with their own community at large, and may identify with the downtrodden of the society.

Now going to Jupiter and moon conjunction in the 7th house. I wont go very deep into this, as its a super interesting concept, and it’ll be better covered in the second part of the reading regarding the moon itself, so ill keep it short and related to the ascendant. Also the mutual aspect part will be explained in more detail in the miscellaneous section later. Plus this is getting far too long for even me now.

Getting on with the reading for now, moon and Jupiter here are in virgo, in a loose conjunction (one is at approximately 2’ and the other at 18’). This is actually one of the not very yogas (combinations)in a chart, about 15% of people have these. Its called the Gaj-Kesari yoga (the elephant and lion combination), because people with this are so extremely lucky, its like the kings of the jungle are together to support it. They have the wisdom of the elephant and the courage of a lion. This is a raj yoga (royal combination). a native born with Gaj-Kesari Yoga is intelligent, strong, and prosperous. Gaj or Elephant possesses immense strength and is devoid of pride and the Lion is known for his foresight and skillful intelligence as well as his strength, quickness, skillful leadership, ability and courage. Thus, when Gaj-Kesari Yoga is formed then that person is extremely successful. They will be a kind and philanthropic person, who will always have sympathy for others. They will be quite humble regarding work, would like to talk nicely to people and aim to attain spiritual progress in life. Many people will recognize them as their mentor or guide and will act according to their instructions or advice. They may have a tendency attracting people and people being magnetized by them. They will be blessed with abundant wealth and become the owner of movable and immovable property(cars as well as homes). They will establish relationships with rich and reputed people of the society and enjoy all kinds of material pleasures in life.

Since this occurs in virgo, it makes a person intelligent, sharp and gifts them with amazing memory power. Such a person is knowledgeable and can become the head of a large educational institution. He may own incomparable wealth and can earn a good name and money from business as well. Often such people earn a high reputation in the Stock Market and make progress in life by working in any financial institution or insurance sectors.

Here jupiter in particular makes someone extremely cynical in nature, and their mind is always, and I mean always, thinking about romantic relationships or platonic ones. However given that jupiter is also the 10th lord here, they could be extremely focused on work too. Their life is surrounded by contracts, and may work with others for a living(7th house is house of courts and partnership). They could be very interested in the financial sector here, they could be extremely money minded and money means stability to them. Moon here on the other hand makes the person very moody, and extremely dependent on their spouse or colleagues. Since it rules the fifth house here, it signifies that such people are extremely creative in their work, may work for children or young adults, have a lot of past life karma related to work, and also that they’re extremely devoted lovers. They tend to criticize their close friends and loved ones, just because they’re so cynical and blunt, and want the absolute best for people. They may hurt people’s feeling without realizing it sometimes. (this was very brief but refer to point 12)

Now coming to Saturn in 12th, as the lord of the birth nakshatra. Saturn over here signifies working in the fields of music, but given saturn represents electronics, it could mean a producer too. Since its in Aquarius here, a sign of dual lordship, this resents a constant up and down of mood and life spirit. The person with such a placement is confused with what truly makes them happy in life, the spiritual realm or the materialistic realm. They keep going up and down the path of being spiritual, till 36 years (saturn matters at 36). They may face a lot of mental disorders here. They may have trouble sleeping at night. Given saturn is also work, they may earn through foreign sources in life. Such a person invests money into properties (saturn is houses) and lacks liquid cash. The person may have a weak left eye (12th house is left eye). They may earn from multiple sources in life, and have multiple talents. Such people have low sex drives as saturn is a dry eunuch planet, and in the 12th house of bed pleasures, it may not allow native to enjoy it. They may not be interested in worldly pleasures with such placements.

Lastly (finally?), we have to discuss the looks! Pisces ascendents usually have the short to medium height, and tend to appear a little fuller even when they’re very scrawny. (its because jupiter is the largest planet). Uttarabhadrapada natives tend to have a very innocent look to them, a very calming nature and vibe. however, like the deep sea serpant, they have very deep and magnetic eyes, and a very expressive face (yoongi memes). They usually have a very beautiful smile, and can literally attract people with it (again the snake like quality). They tend to have a very blank look usually, and if you ever notice, they’ll have the most stunning eyelashes actually, given the yoni is the female cow. They might also have the habit of moving their mouth around when their thinking, quite like ruminating.

Given venus sits here, is gives the person very attractive, effeminate features. Think extremely renaissance type of soft features. It can give them very delicate hands and feet with such a placement. The moon aspect here, gives them a rounded face and pale skin. They might have sparkly eyes and a roundish appearance here, also the tendency to gain weight around their face, with short necks. They make also look much younger than their actual age.The jupiter aspect again makes the native very other worldly looking, almost like you can imagine them in a dark robe literally performing rituals. It gives people a calm and teacher type of vibe to them. The rahu aspect usually just blows qualities out of proportion. Have you seen how small and angelic suga looks compared to the other? (not saying they’re not angelic but still), thats the rahu aspect. Again, rahu aspects only get better with time.

Luca: Fish out of Water

Hi guys, this is going to go over the literal entire movie so if you haven't seen the movie... Don't go below!

This post will be a full film analysis of Pixar's new movie, Luca and how it is clearly a Queer Allegory more than anything else.

Disclaimer: This entire post uses Queer in a reclaimed sense, especially in a sense for the entire community. If you do not like that, sorry.

So... Fish People. Luca is a 2021 Film by Pixar and distributed by Disney on Disney+. Unsurprisingly, I did not watch Luca legally and do not ever plan to, I will never give money to a homophobic tyrant such as Disney... Ever. But, I do love this Movie.

So, first things first... Does this Movie really have that much Queer subtext? Yes, it does. It really does and I think it'd be impossible to deny it. According to the Director, the intention was not to be a strictly LGBT reading, as it is just a film about people who are different. Which is true, that's exactly what this movie is about. But with certain key events and even phrases, I find it so hard for the intent not being Queer people specifically.

TL;DR Plot:

The Plot of Luca surrounds the titular Character and his friend, Alberto as they manage to explore the Surface World. Luca and Alberto are Fish People who are also able to transform into Humans once they dry off on Land. This is called "The Change" and it's unclear why this happens.

The Movie starts with Luca going to the surface and meeting Alberto, a fellow Fish Person. They begin to dream about getting a Vespa, or a Motor Scooter. Soon, Luca gets discovered by his Parents for going to the Surface and is almost sent away to the Deep Sea. He leaves and him and Alberto reach Portorossa, a town in the Italian riviera. A town that is very Anti-Fish People.

There, they meet a brattish teenager named Ercole and a younger girl named Giulia. Alberto and Luca learn about a Triathlon event in the town that will net them some money to buy a Vespa.

Giulia introduces the boys to her Father, Massimo; who is very Anti-Fish People.

They boys train and Luca's parents come to search for him. During this time, Alberto during a training session goes awry with the bike and ends up crashing into the Sea with Luca alongside him. They make it but due to a building upset nature, Alberto reveals himself but to his surprise, Luca acts like he didn't know about Alberto's nature. Leaving Alberto to leave back to his tower.

After feeling bad, Luca visits Alberto to apologize but Alberto is too upset to accept much. Luca proclaims he'll win the race to win the Vespa and the next morning he starts the Triathlon slow but builds up in performance. During this, it starts to rain. At the top of a hill, Alberto calls out to Luca but is forced to reveal himself. Luca overcomes his fear and saves Alberto and wins the race.

Though, their identities are found out, Massimo, who has grown attached to Alberto, is accepting of them and so does the town. This creates a welcoming Fish Person Environment in the town and it's also revealed not everyone who appeared human in the town was either.

Finally, Giulia is forced to go back to School, but it turns out Alberto sold the Vespa to buy a Train Ticket so Luca can go to School as he previously expressed interest in. Massimo also practically adopts Alberto. The boys embrace each other in a very impactful event and don't stop looking at each other until they get far away.

The Allegory...

So, there is a lot of detail I left out in that description but on purpose, of course. In this part I'll be detailing all of the parts that allude to Queer allegory and what it means. Of course, most people can think on their own but this is just here to describe the parts of it that stand out.

Firstly, Fish People are obviously just the LGBT community. I mean, people who have to hide their identity out of fear, especially in a fear of being killed? It's basically staring you in the face. Fish People are able to turn into Humans, which is when LGBT members have to blend in. The two Women at the end are sort of the example of LGBT members who have fully assimilated into normal Society, especially in a Homophobic or Transphobic environment or "Comphet" and being Closeted. I personally can identify with this one. Other characters like the Grandmother can be examples of LGBT people who are comfortable enough they don't feel the need to hide but also understand living is better than dying, but have "fun" with it.

Massimo is definitely an example of the Homophobes or Transphobes who wholly make it their entire personality to hate on Gay People or Transgender People but they're actually exactly like that or one of them. Of course, Massimo isn't a Fish Person but soon after it's shown in the Credits he immediately becomes very accepting especially after having to confront with himself the person he found himself attached to like his own Child, was what he once hated.

Giulia is just an example of an Ally, someone who may not be LGBT but fully supports them. Most people if they hear about how bad something is their entire life will be afraid once first faced with it but she almost immediately becomes accepting after learning Luca is also a Fish Person, trying to protect him.

The Betrayal of Luca to Alberto is a good example of internalized Homophobia and fear of also being found out. As I will describe later, Luca and Alberto are a CLEAR example of a Queer Romantic Relationship. When Alberto reveals himself, Luca found himself in a situation of extreme pressure and anxiety. He just found a life he could be potentially be living and instead of revealing himself as a Fish Person(Queer...) he instead "plays it safe" as he sees it in his mind and acts like he had no idea Alberto was a Fish Person(Queer, again...). It's something that does happen in real life, unfortunately, being outed or having people just like you, reject you, even if they are exactly like you.

The Parents of Luca are representative of Closeted People and the fear that if you out yourself, you can at any point be rejected to the point of even death. It's this fear the perpetually stagnates and personal growth. Of course, in real life there really are situations where you cannot come out for decades in fear of the same thing. And it's not like his(Luca's) parents had a reason not the fear the same.

Ercole, obviously just represents a full homophobe or transphobe. Someone who is unwilling to change and will continue to be homophobic and never question himself even when people near him are accepting. He also represents the power someone who is homophobic may have. Even if the other people who he influences aren't homophobic or transphobic.

This one is a bit rocky, but the Vespa is possible an allegory for the idealized "Vehicle" of escape... If you've seen Adolescence of Utena, it's the exact same thing. However, in this one this Vehicle is achieved but then lost, willingly. It becomes a Vehicle still in the way that it helps Alberto and Luca in their lives, finding their own Paths. It helps them both in the beginning to realize a goal of escape or betterment then near the end kicks off Luca's path and Alberto's.

Lastly, we have Luca and Alberto themselves... Now, as I said before, they are a clear representation of a Queer Relationship, specifically a Gay Relationship. You can interpret it as a Platonic Relationship, but I do it in the romantic Sense. Yes, I am aware the boys never confess ever or do anything very romantic, like kissing or holding hands. But throughout the movie, it's clear, very clear. They start out with Luca become attracted to his ideals and his mission and both of them soon form a Mission where they want to do the Vehicle of escape as I just mentioned. Soon after almost being sent away, Alberto and Luca go to Portorossa together and continue to build their relationship. Alberto and Luca defend each other and obviously care about each other. Soon after, Giulia and Luca grow a closer bond but nothing as close as Luca and Alberto. It's obvious that Alberto really likes Luca. Like, really obvious because this goes on until Alberto crashes him and Luca into the Sea and then the betrayal scene happens. During that scene it's clear that Alberto is extremely hurt, like really hurt. It reminds him that not only is he the "Bad" one in his head, the only person he thought he cared for(or loved) would willing to betray(out) him so that he can assimilate safely into Human(Heterosexual) culture. It definitely makes him feel bad and revert a bit back into a lone wolf mindset. Nearing the end, Alberto comes back nearing the end of the race with an Umbrella to help Luca win. But he ends up being tripped and revealed as a Fish Person. This is definitely just forced outing, it's quite obvious. But then Luca overcomes his fears and basically dreams of a normal life to safe his Friend(or Boyfriend, whichever you want). Luckily for them, due to Massimo seeing how much of a good person Alberto is, instead of attacking the boys, he accepts them as he realizes they're nothing like he thought. On the movies' downside, the town does fortunately accept the boys and all the Fish People. This isn't really realistic in any sense but, it does just explain a theory of mass acceptance if one let goes of their prejudice. The Grandmother in the following scene also explains a perfect Queer-like line:

"Some people will accept him, some never will. But he knows how to find the good ones." (Not an exact quote...)

I think to anyone who is in a marginalized group, specifically LGBT for this case, will relate to this line. It's very basic, but means a lot. It's also a strong reason why I feel like despite everything officially said, with everything else, this IS a Queer intended allegory.

Finally, the end scene at the Train is a good one and explains how Alberto and Luca after finding themselves and growing as people, they find their own way and are happy about it. Alberto and Luca hug, devastated at the fact they have to leave each other, even temporarily. It's sad and very real. Leaving your lover even for the betterment of yourself is extremely heartbreaking and you don't think you can do it at first, especially if you've been through a lot together.

Wetlands, Dunes, Snow and Sun: Week 3, France/Spain

George, Suzi the van and I have had a jam-packed seven days. Now across the Spanish border, I look back at the diverse landscapes we’ve traversed and the things we’ve been up to.

It’s amazing what you can squeeze into a week when you’re in a van. The freedom afforded by having a home on wheels means that you pass through so many different landscapes in what is often a short amount of time, and this last week has really been a testament to that. From natural to man-made, cold to hot, coastal to mountainous, our surroundings have provided endless new things to see and do. That said, we’re still learning to balance working and doing life admin with exploring, and at times it’s hard to resist the temptation just to spend every day out and about, carefree.

We’ve found that splitting days up so that a portion is spent editing videos and doing ‘housework’ still often means we get time to go and do something fun, whether that be wandering a city, chilling at a cafe, going for a hike or even a swim.

Going through the Pyrenees was definitely a highlight for the two of us this week. It was also symbolic because it marked our crossing into another country, our first since leaving England and hopefully one of many.

That experience of driving across the mountains really got me thinking about borders and how different places transition into one another. We think of different countries such as France and Spain as distinct by the very fact that they’re different countries. And yet, what we observed was an incremental change between major cities, to towns, and then villages at the foot of the mountains - which was mirrored over the border. A border which when crossing it, seems so arbitrary. The French and Spanish villages in the Pyrenees have far more in common with one another than they do with the capital cities of their own countries!

An overland trip like this couldn’t be more different from a traditional holiday where you fly in and out of the same place, for the very reason that overlanding reveals borders and in-between places, and nuances and incremental changes within a country.

I’m really starting to have to consciously keep tabs of what we’ve been up to in order to write these blog posts. Analysis and list-making have always been my thing, but I sort of combine digital discipline with analogue chaos! So I have a Google MyMaps document where I pin each overnight location we stay at; I add pins to our Polarsteps page in each of the interesting places we visit; I upload photos to both my personal account and our shared account Broaden; I keep my own personal handwritten diary; plus I have a notebook scribbled with lists and bullet points too! So these blog posts are my own way of pulling all those inputs together. Writing a blog has also become a cathartic process for me to review the (sometimes overwhelming) influx of things we’ve seen and done, and to dig deeper into how those experiences made us feel.

Reflection enriches experiences.

The week started with a final day in the town of Coutras, as I reflected on in last week’s blog post. Coutras was the ideal place to head into Bordeaux from, as it was less than an hour’s drive away. So we got up nice and early (for once!), with a packed lunch and cameras charged, and drove into Bordeaux. The parking gods smiled down on us that day, as we found a free all-day parking spot in a nice neighbourhood just 30 minutes walk from the city centre. It was also gloriously sunny, which was perfect for what we had planned: filming an introductory video to our documentary channel, Broaden.

Once in Bordeaux, I was really impressed by how much cycling and walking infrastructure there was, and how integrated it seemed to be with public transport. With cars diverted along key routes, streets were generally left feeling spacious and peaceful (at least compared with the UK and Australia), and especially along the waterfront which featured wildflower planting, a wide promenade, and grassy tram track. People sat outside cafes and on benches, other folk walked, jogged and sprinted, others pushed pushchairs, and some rollerbladed and skateboarded too. As Jane Jacobs would call it, the “sidewalk ballet” was on display.

We were really taken by Bordeaux, and happy to have chosen it as the setting for our next video. I’m even getting used to walking around cities with a tripod and big camera bag!

Filled up with coffee, cake, and cannelés (a local sweet treat), we were happy with the footage we’d shot and said goodbye to Bordeaux. The city’s chilled-out and welcoming vibe did slightly change as we walked back to the van, however. It’s not as though anything explicit happened, but we emerged from the bubble of the central tourist area and were confronted by busier streets with homeless people and rowdy crowds - subtle things which make you scurry along quicker or keep an eye on your belongings. It reminded me that we only ever see a fraction of a place and make our assumptions about it biased by things like the weather and our first experience of it. Perhaps Bordeaux has its darker sides and downsides too…

On the drive out of Bordeaux, we found a service station with free water refills and even free hot showers! It still feels a bit weird taking free stuff from places, but given that the infrastructure is there, I have to remind myself that attitudes towards campers and caravanners in mainland Europe are different and more welcoming than I’m used to.

Using Park4Night again, we found a spot to stay overnight in La Teich. I didn’t know much about the place, and must admit we didn’t feel completely comfortable as we arrived there in the dark. But our fears were eliminated the next day as the sun rose and we discovered we were basically in the middle of a picturesque nature reserve! We spent the day in Suzi, and I wrote my blog post (I was a bit behind last week) while George edited his mammoth documentary about the Mont Blanc ultramarathon. It was only in the evening when we went for a walk that we realised the scale and beauty of the coastal wetlands that we had parked next to.

As the sun set over the wetlands, we wandered along sandy paths with grassy embankments, accompanied by the sights and sounds of abundant wildlife - made all the more breathtaking because it was so unexpected.

The next day, after a morning of life admin we visited the Dune du Pilat. I think we both thought that we’d just park up on the side of a road and see a big sand dune next to us, but it was a lot more of a tourist destination than we expected! That said, Europe’s tallest sand dune didn’t disappoint, and at 100m tall and 500m wide, it pretty much came with a free workout just getting up the damn thing. Vast, scaleless, shifting shapes of sand continued as far as the eye could see, stretching up towards the sky and sloping down towards the ocean. Of course, I was desperate for another swim and even convinced George to come in for a sea dip.

Refreshed by an ocean swim and a sandy workout, we drove for two hours southbound, and stayed the night in Pomarez. With free water and electrical hookup, it made for a good spot to do more work, though we were a bit conflicted by the fact we were parked next to the ‘Arena’, basically a bull-fighting ring (shocking that this tradition still continues). That said, the presence of bullfighting in this nondescript French village was a good indication that we were near the Spanish border, and we were pretty excited to be travelling onwards into Spain, a country both George and I are really fond of.

We left Pomarez and got to the Pyrenees that night as the light faded. We were both really keen for doing a big hike and so I’d found a 20km loop track online that started near the village of Gabas. However, once there, the access road was closed off due to risk of avalanches so we continued on to Lac du Fabrèges - a slightly less secluded spot than we’d wanted but still a stunning setting next to a huge man-made lake. What’s more, we were surrounded by snow-capped mountains which got George rather excited, especially as we’d aborted our trip to the Alps a fortnight before.

The next morning I got my third wild swim of the trip in the bag, and possibly my most stunning setting to date: icy turquoise waters framed by craggy mountains and snow off in the distance.

We passed through Col du Portalet, a ski village on the French-Spanish border where we’d seen there were some walks online. During the ascent, we realised we’d been somewhat naive about the amount of snow there might be - once we got to the top our entire surroundings were blanketed in snow and everyone else in the carpark was putting on skis or cramp-ons! So instead, we visited the duty-free shop and bagged some cheap, cheap wine, before heading down the Spanish side of the mountain and on the hunt for a hike.

Starting from the town of Escarillas, the steep ascent took us along a rocky path up the side of a valley, at times through wooded patches and other times opening out to vast vistas of the surrounding peaks. We only saw a handful of other walkers and it felt like such an honour to have this majestic setting all to ourselves. Nearing the top, we saw that beyond the lake there was a considerable amount of snow and the path was no longer distinguishable, and although excited by the thought of charging ahead up a snowy mountain, we decided instead to walk the perimeter of the frozen lake before heading back down the way we came.

All in all, it was a brilliant 13km walk, though we were certainly over-prepared in terms of clothing, and didn’t touch the extra jackets, waterproofs and even headtorches that we carried in our bags! In fact, it was so warm for February that the weather felt rather alarming, and it confirmed what we’d seen and heard: we’d seen plenty of ski lifts closed and ski runs with no snow, and been told that climate change is noticeable in the region through this mild winter.

There’s no doubt we’ll continue to see the effects of climate change on our travels. As we observe unusually high temperatures here in Spain whilst watching flooding in Hebden Bridge back home from afar, it’s hard to come to terms with the idea that freak weather events will only continue. I only hope that we can find people and initiatives looking to tackle them, who we can support and celebrate through videography.

Sunday night saw us leave the Pyrnees and head south. Suzi struggled up the highway towards Huesca, which was undoubtedly the longest continuous incline we’ve taken her up. It reaffirmed the importance of getting her engine looked at, and so finding a garage in Spain is now a key priority.

Once in Huesca, we rounded the week off with a really relaxed day in this charming town. If we zoom out, look it on a slightly even higher timeframe. You can see that there is a clear, bearish divergence across the board here. I firmly believe by the end of the week we’re going to see a substantial rejection of this orange line here on the Mike D.. And for those of you wondering what I mean by Mark DME moving average convergence, divergence is essentially very, very similar to having your 50 days and a hundred day moving average. However, he’s working on a slightly shorter scale. There are so many bad fundamental factors at play for the Dow Jones index. There is only so long that the Federal Reserve can prop it up before ultimately just have to let it do its thing. You can’t print infinite money and devalue your own currency in pursuit of propping up what is essentially a giant Ponzi scheme. It offers no benefit to anyone. And the only reason why this is continued to sustain itself is that America has decided to offer up three trillion dollars worth of government bonds that again, are going to get pumped straight into the stock market. All the money that is raised from that. And now it is time to move over to Bitcoin. Technical analysis for the day where we still within this gigantic bull penance. However, looking at this on a smaller timeframe, this is the only timeframe yesterday, as you pointed out, yesterday’s video did. I said on the smaller timeframes, it did seem quite realistic that we would have another pump to the upside, which we did. We then got rejected here. We’re probably going to farm out the rest of this pendant formation here. So what I’m going to do now is going to run through all of the major Bitcoin timeframes that I personally trade. I’ll give you an overall synopsis on where I expect Bitcoin’s price to go over the next 24 to 48 hours. But the key thing here is in order to not get wrecked while trading Bitcoin is quite simply just play the break. If we zoom out, look it on a slightly even higher timeframe. You can see that there is a clear, bearish divergence across the board here. I firmly believe by the end of the week we’re going to see a substantial rejection of this orange line here on the Mike D.. And for those of you wondering what I mean by Mark DME moving average convergence, divergence is essentially very, very similar to having your 50 days and a hundred day moving average. However, he’s working on a slightly shorter scale. There are so many bad fundamental factors at play for the Dow Jones index. There is only so long that the Federal Reserve can prop it up before ultimately just have to let it do its thing. You can’t print infinite money and devalue your own currency in pursuit of propping up what is essentially a giant Ponzi scheme. It offers no benefit to anyone. And the only reason why this is continued to sustain itself is that America has decided to offer up three trillion dollars worth of government bonds that again, are going to get pumped straight into the stock market. All the money that is raised from that. And now it is time to move over to Bitcoin. Technical analysis for the day where we still within this gigantic bull penance. However, looking at this on a smaller timeframe, this is the only timeframe yesterday, as you pointed out, yesterday’s video did. I said on the smaller timeframes, it did seem quite realistic that we would have another pump to the upside, which we did. We then got rejected here. We’re probably going to farm out the rest of this pendant formation here. So what I’m going to do now is going to run through all of the major Bitcoin timeframes that I personally trade. I’ll give you an overall synopsis on where I expect Bitcoin’s price to go over the next 24 to 48 hours. So starting out on the thirty-minute timeframe, it appears the bitcoin is going to form a near the head and shoulders formation here, going like there are cock and balls all the way downwards. I say that because the monkey is indicating we’re bullish. Now moving over to the one-hour time frame, the one-hour time frame is indicating, yes, we’ve got a little bit of bullish momentum in the market with a little bit of bullish momentum in the RSI, however. Both of them are indicating that this isn’t gonna last all that long. We’re probably in for a trip all the way back down to eight thousand six hundred dollars, not like us. Much of a problem because I’m still up as long as Bitcoin is kind of above seven thousand dollars. I’m a happy little boy. I also want to point out something I feel is quite important with regards to Mark D on the four-hour time frame. And that would be last time we were in a very similar situation to this. We did end up breaking to the upside, despite it being quite a considerable bearish divergence on the RSI and on the Mark D.. You can see the exact same situation happened here and he’s probably gonna happen here as well. But the key thing here is in order to not get wrecked while trading Bitcoin is quite simply just play the break. If Bitcoin breaks above, say, eight thousand nine hundred or nine thousand dollars, then it’s obviously going to pump all the way back up to around nine thousand four hundred nine thousand five hundred dollars. And if Bitcoin was to break to the downside of eight thousand six hundred dollars, say maybe slightly lower, basically, as soon as it breaks outside of this pendant formation, then obviously you’re gonna short especially anything below eight thousand four hundred dollars and Bitcoins on the path back down to 7400 dollars. So it does make complete sense to be shorting Bitcoin. And if you are interested in trading, by the way, they make sure you are signed up on my referral link fall by, but no one else has because we’re having a trading competition in only a couple of weeks time on BYB. It will be a fairly nice prize for the winner and also it can be split amongst the group anyway. But back to Bitcoin’s price are moving up to the daily timeframe. It does appear that with we’re running out of steam here fairly quickly and we are in for a bit of it. It just looks to me like it’s topped out for now. Seems most realistic for at least a retest of seven thousand eight hundred dollars at this point. However, that’s not to say that it can’t go all the way up to fourteen thousand dollars. It very much depends for Bitcoin at the moment, depending on which side of this pendant it breaks too because it is a very key point. Bitcoin halving is expected to take place on May the 11th and Bitcoin. Tocheri at the moment has not been stagnating. Our total has been continuing to climb as people use up the rest of those steam in those miners and make sure they get the best out of them in the coming days before the Blocher reward us and everybody starts losing money. And well, May the 11th actually takes us right to the end of this pendent formation, meaning that we could stay within the current trading range for the following few days. As the volume rises, interest rises, especially on the institutional side, where we can see that again, we’d make. Stupid amounts of volume from SEEMY groups exchange at the moment. The volume for this month is more than 10 times larger than what it was last month. And he’s been doing this every month so far this year. The open interest for Bitcoin. The fact that there is still a premium on SEEMY group’s exchange indicates that there are a lot of people still going long at this moment in time. Despite Bitcoin’s price, decreasing is not decreasing to the same amount that it has done on futures exchanges. So where is Bitcoin’s price heading over the next couple of days? Not literally comes down to which side of this pendant formation it breaks. And having explained earlier, basically, a break above nine thousand dollars or a break below eight thousand six hundred dollars would shield a large move in either direction. That is exactly how I will be playing this. With regard to the theorems current price in Bitcoin value, it seems that was stagnating at the moment is no better way to describe it. Seems we’re gonna probably come into contact again with this lower line here and indicating that we’ve got a drop of around six per cent to come. But it’s not that. But to be honest, there’s a lot more upside potential for theory at the moment than there is downside potential. And honestly, I’m still thinking the XP looks like the buy of the century is just too cheap right now.
