Vylet Pony fan 🫵 literally the first time i heard Bonnie i fell in love with it's music. always taking music recs, got anything good in that direction? i'll give u mine: Left at London and Princess Xixi 💗
bonnie is absolutely one of the best songs of all time. going out on a limb to say that. incredible fucking song. i've never really done music recommendations before! i feel a lot of the music i like is already very popular here on tumblr (the scary jokes, louie zong, vylet pony obviously, patricia taxxon), and i don't listen to a ton of music nowadays outside of video game OSTs, which is slightly unfortunate. but here we go: anything penny parker (go! child or her solo music) is going to be a banger no matter what (i draw your attention particularly to rude mountain, the entire DeReconstruct album, and coffee & ramen from go! child, though the masquerade is also very good), hawaii: part ii is probably my favorite album of all time, and louie zong has never made a bad song, ever. there you go

this is just further proof that we needed more gmax forms that weren't gen 1, gen 8, or garbodor. to be honest

Countdown to Coffee and Ramen: Day One
Hello everyone! Your favorite blogger who changes themes every two weeks because she gets hyperfixations faster than she can make blogs. Anyway, if you don’t know, Penny Parker @snapscube of Snapcube (AKA that channel that blew up recently because of their Sonic dubs) and Ryan of @chongoblog or The Chongo Show on YouTube (known for being hip and cool with the kids and making killer mashups of songs including almost every Rhythm Heaven and Undertale song) have a band together known as
Tumblr media
(this is their old logo. I had some difficulties uploading the new one)
They have a new album called Coffee and Ramen coming out on Friday, June 8th (technically the 7th on their premiere livestream)! In honor of that, I will be making a blog every single day to talk about how much their songs mean to me and why I love them! See day one content below the cut!
Day One: Me and G!C, Intro, Rabbit Hole, Gravitated
Me and G!C
How did I get introduced to Go! Child? I've bee a fan of Penny and Ryan's content since I was a young lass...I'm gonna assume around 2015 when Penny's channel started getting popular. Scary. Guess you could say I liked them before they were cool 😎😎😎😎😎
Jokes aside, I had been following them for quite a while before they released Go! Child music. To be honest, I was having trouble getting into their music, mostly because it was very different from the music I normally listened to. Over time, however I seemed to click with the music more and more.
One of the moment so remember the most was listening to the entire Masquerade album an hour before my very first high school theater audition. I didn't get in, unfortunately, but it gave me such a sense of comfort I really appreciated.
All of this to say: Penny and Ryan are wonderful and talented and their content has always been a big part of my life. Enough of the sappy stuff: let's infodump!
Intro
A wonderful, symbolic beginning
Starts with CABBAGE, which is fairly common knowledge for people who were around when the album first dropped. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, basically Penny and Ryan had a tradition to start their streams by asking viewers to say “cabbage!” in chat if the audio levels were good. When someone first made the correlation to Intro I got very excited.
I absolutely love the imagery in this song. The anxiety references in the very beginning (and probably throughout), the unsteadiness of the words and the ever changing piano in the background really help paint the picture.
I love love love Penny’s very light vocals and syncopated lines coupled with what I now realize is probably her singing a lower part underneath everything? I’ve only recently started to really train my eyes to songs but just listening back to these songs I’m able to notice the different pieces much more than before.
The building up in this song is so perfect and more and more layers keep adding on until...
It finally thins out and we’re left with Penny vocalizing over herself. And then the percussion/synth starts to building up and up and go DIRECTLY INTO
Rabbit Hole
This song is an absolute banger first and foremost
It’s hype as SHIT and gives me the biggest damn smile on my face whenever I hear it
Unrelated but I remember when Masquerade first dropped I was at a school basketball game against my will and I stuck into the bathroom to listen to it and I remember getting so excited hearing this song.
So this was probably intentional but I just noticed that the percussion in this song sounds like a train going on the tracks which is amazing (hence “we won’t stop this train).
Anyway this song makes me emotional as SHIT because it’s really a testament to the fucking incredible content Penny and Ryan and their friends have created over the years. Heck I STILL quote Fant4Stic Rabbit Hole in my daily life.
Oh yeah penny raps in this song. I get out of breath singing along to it but I absolutely adore it.
The album visualizer definitely helps with thus but no matter what the chorus of this song just feels like someone sprinting at full speed (or... falling down a rabbit hole) and it’s so visceral and wonderful.
Always a sucker for those synth pizzicato strings.
Gravitated
You may notice I’m not going in order of the album. That’s because I figured I should start at the beginning of the Masquerade to kick it off, then go back again to their first single: Gravitated.
For those who don’t know, Gravitated is a Gravity Falls fan song. Like me and probably a lot of Penny’s audience who have been following her for a long time, Penny and Ryan were avid fans of the show, and even met doing a fan project together.
I believe this was made before Weirdmaggeddon, but that doesn’t take away from the song itself.
When this song first came out, I was very lukewarm about it. To be perfectly honest, it certainly isn’t my favorite song of theirs, but I very much can appreciate it.
This song just has so much passion and love put into it you can really tell they both put their hearts and souls into creating this song about this thing that affects them so deeply.
Did someone say Penny Raps Again? Hecc yeah she does.
I would probably have to listen to this a couple times to figure out the structure of the song, but anyway it’s very interesting
The bridge of this song is really the peak for me I absolutely love it
GOD just the little dododododododo of the GF theme and Penny goes in with that killer “evidence is showing...” this song really pops off.
And it ENDS with Penny singing her own lyrics over the GF theme and it’s so moving and perfect
Conclusion
I don’t know how much more my computer can handle so I’m cutting myself off here. I hope y’all enjoyed my ramblings and Penny and Ryan if you’re reading this I love y’all so much and I cannot wait for laughter and tears and I know Coffee and Ramen will murder me.
